Re: [IRCA] Steely Dan on 1550?
But note that Niel heard it just BEFORE 7 p.m. local time, so it wouldn't have been lead-in music for a talk program. There's always a chance that it could have been outro bumper music for a talk program as the mystery station was headed towards the top-of-the-hour ID, but if Niel heard the entire song, then that eliminates that possibility entirely. 73, Rick Dau South Omaha, Nebraska From: Dave Hascall To: a...@lists.wtfda.info; nielw...@yahoo.ca; irca@hard-core-dx.com Sent: Tuesday, October 23, 2012 8:15 PM Subject: Re: [IRCA] Steely Dan on 1550? I am checking with a source of mine on the playlist at Timeless Cool, the format 1550 uses. He is checking the playlist and will get back to me. Re: [IRCA] Steely Dan on 1550?
My bad, I had my stations mixed up. "Uptown" is the slogan for the 1010 in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota. "Avenue 1550" is what I meant to type for the Lake Geneva station. 73, Rick Dau South Omaha, Nebraska From: Rick Dau To: Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America ; Niel Wolfish ; "a...@nrcdxas.org" Sent: Monday, October 22, 2012 9:33 PM Subject: Re: Steely Dan on 1550? I think what Niel means in this instance, Paul, by "doesn't sound like a song I would expect to hear on AM radio" is the fact that 99.9% of songs that you hear on oldies or "classic hits" stations on AM are songs that were released as singles, and "Night By Night" never was. And knowing what I know about the Steely Dan catalogue, Niel's right, that is a rather odd song to be hearing on AM. The one station that jumps out at me as a possibility is "Uptown" in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, a station that plays a hybrid of nostalgia (Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, and others of that ilk) and middle-of-the-road (Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, et al). A jazz-oriented studio group like Steely Dan could fit into that format very nicely. 73, Rick Dau South Omaha, Nebraska From: "Paul B.
