Re: [IslamCity] Fatwa on apostacy from islamonline---Mufti Ahmad Kutty

2006-04-03 Thread F. Saad

Salamu alaikum,So let's see brother. I will put Ahmed Kutt's statement next to a sahih hadith of the Prophet sallallahu alayhe wa salam and tell me what you understand:It is absurd for anyone to suggest that Islam advocates killing people who choose to leave Islam. To kill anyone who chooses to follow a religion other than Islam is against the fundamental teachings of the Qur'an. And it was proven that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever changes his religion, execute him.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari in his Saheeh. What this hadeeth means is that whoever leaves Islam and changes to another religion and persists in that and does not
repent, is to be executed. It was also proven that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “It is not permissible to shed the blood of a person who bears witness that there is no god but Allaah and that I am the Messenger of Allaah except in three cases: a life for a life, a previously-married person who commits adultery, and one who leaves Islam and forsakes the jamaa’ah.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari and Muslim. This hadith as you can see is in Sahih Bukhari and Muslim. So from what I understand, Ahmed Kutty is actually accusing our beloved prophet sallallahu alayhe wa salam of being absurd, hasha lilAllah.Allah says in the Quran:And whosoever of you turns back from his religion and dies as a disbeliever, then his deeds will be lost in this life and in the Hereafter, and they will be the dwellers of the Fire. They will abide therein forever” [al-Baqarah 2:217]The Prophet sallallahu alayhe wa salam was sent with the Quran and commanded to teach it to us.Who's opinion are you going to take brother, Ahmed Kutty's or the Prophet's sallallahu alayhe wa salam's ruling.I rest my case. A Glimpse at Islam Sufism in the Balkans

By Huseyin Abiva (Chicago)

Introduction

The nearly six centuries of Ottoman rule over
southeastern Europe provided ample opportunity for the
spread of Islam.

Indeed, among the nations that now comprise the
Balkans Peninsula (Albania, Bosnia-Hercegovina,
Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Macedonia, Montenegro and
Serbia) the visible Muslim component to their
populations are readily evident.

Two of these nations, Albania and Bosnia-Hercegovina,
undoubtedly have Muslim majority populations. The
populations of Macedonia and Serbia (which includes
Kosova) are comprised of huge Muslim minorities. In
Croatia, Bulgaria, Montenegro and Greece there are
smaller percentages, but in the case of Bulgaria this
means more than 1 million!

The largest Muslim ethnic group present in the Balkans
is the Albanians, who number over 5 million. They are
concentrated in the central and southern areas of the
Peninsula and form the overwhelming majority of the
population in Albania, the Serbian occupied province
of Kosova and western Macedonia. There are small
groups of Albanians living in Bosnia, Montenegro and
Croatia who are mainly émigrés from the Tito era.

In regards to religion, though they are for the most
part followers of Islam (or the non-practicing
descendants of Muslims), Albanians have never found it
a force for ethnic unity. Significant portions of the
Albanian people still cling to either Catholic or
Orthodox Christianity, and among the Muslim population
there was further division between the Sunni majority
and the followers of the Shi’ah Bektashi (see below).

The next cultural element in the Muslim population of
the Balkan Peninsula are the Slavs. They number some
3.5 million and are the descendants of those of the
region who embraced Islam during the centuries of
Ottoman rule. Culturally and linguistically they are a
diverse group whose racial base and religious faith
form for the only common factor.

They form a plurality of the inhabitants of
Bosnia-Hercegovina (where they are known as Bošnjaks),
a majority of the Serbian-occupied region of the
Sandzak of Novi Pazar, a significant minority in
Macedonia (where they are known as Torbeši) and
Bulgaria (where they identify themselves as Pomaks).
Small pockets of Slav speaking Muslims (Pomaks) can
also be found in northern Greece and in Kosova
(Goranis).

The Turkish element of the Muslim population is but a
mere shadow of what it once was, say a hundred years
ago. In the past, Turks made up significant portions
of the populations of Macedonia, Thessaly, the Morea
and Bulgaria. At present, there are nearly one million
Turks who continue to

[IslamCity] Protesters march over Rice visit

2006-04-03 Thread Showkat Ali

Protesters march over Rice visit http://www.irishexaminer.com/breaking/story.asp?j=76116080p=76yy638zn=76116460 A group of about 100 protesters marched today to Blackburn Town Hall, where US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is due to meet Muslim leaders and local dignitaries. Dr Rice is in England as the guest of British Foreign Secretary and local MP Jack Straw. She is due at the town hall after a visit to Blackburn cathedral. Protesters today shouted: “Condoleezza Rice go home” and “Rice, Straw, unjust war”. At the front of the procession, six demonstrators wore orange boiler suits to protest against the imprisonment of terrorism suspects at Guantanamo Bay. Mounted police rode in front of the protesters, who were flanked by uniformed officers. Protest leader Hanif Dudhuala
said they were marching in solidarity with the victims of American oppression. As the protesters approached Blackburn Town Hall their numbers had increased to about 200.Some carried orange banners identifying themselves as members of the radical Muslim group Hizb Ut-Tahrir. The banner read “War on terror equals war on Islam”. Amar Hassain, 23, a security guard from Manchester, said he thought Ms Rice was a war criminal. “I think it’s wrong that we have allowed Condoleezza Rice to come here. We are against the invasion of Iraq. It was a criminal offence.” Peter Harvey, 59, a psychologist from Bradford, Yorkshire, said he thought the US' overseas wars were “illegal”. “They told us lies right from the start. It was carried out for the wrong reasons. “I think we should make it clear that we think it’s wrong her being here.” Comment:
Wherever the American war mongers go they will be opposed by decent people who will expose their evil ideology which is responsible for global instabilty everywhere.

Re: [IslamCity] MacKay Palestine - If we don't speak up for ourselves, who will?

2006-04-03 Thread Syed Adil

Dear Mr. MacKay,

Once on the BBC News channel I saw a Somalian man waiting patiently for his turn at the UN Camp hospital somewhere in Mogadishu where he had gone toget himselftreated for a bullet that hadpenetratedthroughhis jaw bone. He was dripping blood and virtually half his face was gone. I was completely shocked to see that image and at the same time wondered maybe it is alright for a Somalian to endure that pain because he is so obviously conditioned to bear pain as against someone from a developed civilized Country who is not.

It amazes me to see howhumanity learns to insulate itself from the pain of other people and is always able to rationalise on the basis of false premise.

The story of the Palestenian people today is no different. How much more pain and agony do they have to suffer? You havechosen to cut off aid to Palestine, because in your wisdom the Palestinian people need to be punished for
electing democratically a Government thatdoes not fit intoyour scheme of things.

Sir, it is not for me to question your wisdom nor do I wish to enter into a debate with you or anybody else. All I want to understand from you is how you can justify even more pain to one people (Palestinians)in order to ensure the other people (Jews)are never subjected to any pain.Do you honestly believe you have chosen the best remedy for a complex problem or have you taken the easy way out?

Friends,

Below is my letter to Mr. Peter MacKay, Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs. I encourage you to write to Minister MacKay informing him of your views on his decision to stop all official contact with, and discontinue all aid to, the Palestinian Authority.

Monzer

The Honourable Peter MacKay
Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs

Dear Mr. MacKay,

It is indeed a sad day for Canada that you decided to cut all aid to the Palestinian Authority. I recognize that in your statement you stated that Canada will endeavor to find ways to support the Palestinian people. What is disappointing in your statement is that it demonstrates how far removed you seem to be from comprehending how hypocritical Canada will appear in distinguishing between supporting the Palestinian people and rejecting their democratically elected government.

Less than a month ago, I wrote you a letter congratulating you on your positive reaction to the Russian initiative to invite representatives of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement "Hamas" and deal directly with them. When you praised the Russian initiative, you demonstrated good judgment and you made me feel proud. Now, you are second only to Israel in declaring that Canada will not deal with Hamas, and that Canada will cut all aid to the Palestinian Authority. My disappointment in you, Mr. MacKay, is beyond my ability to describe.

Let me assure you of one thing: The Palestinian people will not evaporate. They will not disappear from the face of this earth, whether you deal with their duly, democratically elected representatives or not. However, in the eyes of history, Canada will be judged as hypocritical in dealing with the oppressed Palestinian people, and you will be known as the man who brought about that judgment.

[IslamCity] 25 Duas from the Holy Quran

2006-04-03 Thread Ghafoor Jan

25 Duas from the Holy Quran (And when My servants ask thee concerning Me, I am indeed close (to them): I respond to the dua (prayer) of every suppliant when they calleth on Me - Quran 2:186) 1.
Our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the life to come and keep us safe from the torment of the Fire (2:201) 2. Our Lord! Bestow on us endurance and make our foothold sure and give us help against those who reject faith. (2:250) 3. Our Lord! Take us not to task if we forget or fall into error. (2:286) 4.
Our Lord! Lay not upon us such a burden as You did lay upon those before us. (2:286)5. Our Lord! Impose not on us that which we have not the strength to bear, grant us forgiveness and have mercy on us. You are our Protector. Help us against those who deny the truth. (2:286)6. Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate from the truth after You have guided us, and bestow upon us mercy from Your grace. Verily You are the Giver of bounties without measure. (3:8)7. Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and the lack of moderation in our doings, and make firm our steps and succour us against those who deny the truth. (3:147)8. Our Lord! Whomsoever You shall commit to the Fire, truly You have brought [him] to disgrace, and never will wrongdoers find any helpers (3:192)9. Our Lord! Behold we have heard a voice calling us unto faith: "Believe in your Lord" and we
have believed. (3:193)10. Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and efface our bad deeds and take our souls in the company of the righteous. (3:193)11. Our Lord! And grant us that which you have promised to us by Your messengers and save us from shame on the Day of Judgement. Verily You never fail to fulfill Your promise. (3:194)12. Our Lord! We have sinned against ourselves, and unless You grant us forgiveness and bestow Your mercy upon us, we shall most certainly be lost! (7:23)13. Our Lord! Place us not among the people who have been guilty of evildoing. (7:47)14. Our Lord! Lay open the truth between us and our people, for You are the best of all to lay open the truth. (7:89)15. Our Lord! Pour out on us patience and constancy, and make us die as those who have surrendered themselves unto You. (7:126) 16. Our Lord! Make us not a trial for the evildoing folk, and save as by Your mercy from people who deny the truth (10:85-86) 17. Our Lord! You truly know all that we may hide [in our hearts] as well as all that we bring into the open, for nothing whatever, be it on earth or in heaven, remains hidden from Allah
(14:38) 18. Our Lord! Bestow on us mercy from Your presence and dispose of our affairs for us in the right way. (18:10) 19. Our Lord! Grant that our spouses and our offspring be a comfort to our eyes, and give us the grace to lead those who are conscious of You. (25:74) 20. Our Lord! You embrace all things within
Your Grace and Knowledge, forgive those who repent and follow Your path, and ward off from them the punishment of Hell. (40:7) 21. Our Lord! Make them enter the Garden of Eden which You have promised to them, and to the righteous from among their fathers, their wives and their offspring, for verily You are alone the Almighty and the truly Wise. (40:8) 22. Our Lord! Relieve us of the torment, for we do really believe. (44:12) 23. Our Lord! Forgive us our sins as well as those of our brethren who proceeded us in faith and let not our hearts entertain any unworthy thoughts or feelings against [any of] those who have believed. Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness and Most Merciful (59:10) 24. Our Lord! In You we have placed our trust, and to You do we turn in repentance, for unto You is the end of all journeys. (60:4) 25. Our Lord! Perfect our light for us and forgive us our sins, for verily You have power over all things. (66:8)

[IslamCity] Not Without Her Make-Up

2006-04-03 Thread G.Waleed Kavalec
Not Without Her Make-Up
By Tazin Abdullah

This is a satire written to mimic articles, reports and stories
generally written about Muslim women by women from Western
non-Muslim backgrounds. It is, to some extent, an attempt to
convey to the readers how it feels to be 'othered' and to be judged
superficially in accordance with only one's own perceptions.
I hope you take it for what it is - a satire.

I do not clearly remember the first time I was here. My earliest
memories of Australia start when I was around six or seven, probably
my first trip after I was born in the city of Sydney. My parents were
not particularly happy with the idea of me growing up there. So, they
took me out to Iran at the first opportunity.

As I grew up, my impressions of Sydney were formed from stories I
heard from my parents, shows I watched on television and of course,
what I saw on my trips. From my first trip at the age of seven, I
vaguely remember the people I met and the places I visited. I remember
more from my second trip, though, which was at the age of fourteen. I
recall my parents warning me over and over again about how women were
treated in a society so fundamentally Western.

While I was there, I learnt that individuality was something
Australians only dreamt about. I soon discovered I had to conform to
the dress code everyone else followed. I had to have my hair
highlighted and defrizzed. I had to spend between fifteen ad twenty
minutes every morning brushing it and putting on clips and hair ties.
I had to make it into a ponytail one day, a braid the next and a bun
when I went to dinner parties. I was coerced to wear short skirts and
tight tops, with a push-up bra to give me cleavage. My legs had to
show, smooth and unscarred, and everyone had to be able to make out my
waist.

They told me I had to 'fit in'. Part of the ritual of fitting in
meant that I had to paint my face with what they called make-up
everyday. I discovered that Australian females liked to attract as
much attention as they could to themselves, by hiding behind their
make-up. They made their kohl in liquids and pencils, instead of pots
like we do, and sold them in stores under a range of different names
and prices. They all seemed the same to me, though. Anyhow, I bought
what they told me to buy and used what they told me to use, from
lipsticks to abdominizers, changing my body from head to toe to please
their male gods. Such things ensured that everyone wanted to 'hang
out' with me (a term denoting something to the effect of spending time
and/or social acceptance).

In the five years between then and now, I had convinced myself
that Australia would have joined other countries on the road to
progress. But my return to Sydney both shocks and saddens me. While
many parts of the world have seen development, Australia has dragged
behind, especially with regards to the status of women. It seems as if
it has only succeeded in digging itself deeper into a bottomless pit
of regression. At this rate, I fear that Australia is a second America
in the making.

Upon arrival, I have come across some typical Sydney women. I can
see that they are dictated by the strict dress code imposed on them by
the social system. They are not allowed to wear loose clothing,
headscarves until they are old or ailing, and it is preferred that
they show as much of their bodies as possible. Women who break this
rule face harsh penalties. Sarah, a victim of such injustices, told me
the specifics. As punishment for wearing non-revealing clothing, she
is deemed unattractive and given unequal treatment by her employers.
She says she is not considered 'normal'.

A day in the life of a normal woman here requires her appearance
to be the focal point. Her sexuality must be available for everyone to
consume. She cannot choose to whom she will disclose her intimate
parts or excercise her sexuality. She does not have much choice in
what she wants to do with her body. Since the fundamentalist regime
insists that it must be available for display in a certain manner, she
must follow these rules.

The rules are based on the Australian Holy Scriptures, two of
which are Dolly and Cosmopolitan. Also known as magazines, these
contain the teachings of hard-liner editors and reporters/writers who
design the way in which society must view women and the way women must
dress and act. Since the advent of these magazines, there have been
mass conversions in the country to the faith they preach. Authority
and control have been transferred onto them and they play a vital role
in the life of women. They have institutionalised radical guidelines
such as the 36:24:36 measurement of a woman's body. Furthermore, they
propagate intolerance and hate to be internalised in all women - hate
for their own bodies, natural intelligence, privacy and inherent
dignity. These women are brainwashed into believing that their Creator
is to blame for their deficiencies in
