MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya, an outspoken
critic of war in rebel Chechnya, was shot dead on Saturday at her
apartment block in central Moscow.

Politkovskaya, a mother of two, was well-known for exposing rights
abuses by Russian troops and remained critical of Moscow's campaign
despite intense government pressure.

The first thing that comes to mind is that Anna was killed for her
professional activities. We don't see any other motive for this
terrible crime, said Vitaly Yaroshevsky, deputy editor of Novaya
Gazeta, the newspaper where Politkovskaya worked.

Yaroshevsky told Reuters that sources in the police and
Politkovskaya's own son had both confirmed her death.

Chechnya has always been her main subject, he said. Everything she
wrote was on the edge.

Novaya Gazeta is known for being critical of the Kremlin.

Politkovskaya's war reporting often meant she was under scrutiny by
Russian politicians and, sometimes, the security services. She had
been arrested and complained of sometimes being threatened.

Interfax news agency quoted police sources as saying her body was
discovered in a lift by a neighbor at 5.10 p.m. Police officers found
a pistol and four rounds abandoned in the lift, it reported.

Police had cordoned off the scene outside her nine-storey Soviet-era
apartment block.

BRAVE REPORTER

Journalists rights groups condemned the killing.

She was an intrepid and brave reporter who repeatedly risked her life
to report the news from that region. It's a devastating development
for journalism in Russia, said Abi Wright, spokeswoman for the
Committee to Protect Journalists.

This devastating news fits into a larger pattern that we have
documented in Russia with over a dozen murders of journalists there.
For someone of her reputation to be murdered, it's a terrible blow,
she said in New York.

Jean-Francois Julliard of Reporters Without Borders said in Paris:
Russia is a violent country and violent to journalists.

Former President Boris Yeltsin sent troops into Chechnya in December
1994 after it declared independence, but mass rebel hostage-takings
and fierce fighting led to a truce. President Vladimir Putin, then
prime minister, sent Russian troops back in after Chechen hardliners
invaded an adjacent region in 1999.

Rebels still attack Russian troops despite the efforts of a string of
Moscow-installed local leaders. The Chechen campaign led to
devastation in large areas of Chechnya and thousands of deaths, but
was backed strongly by Russian leaders who saw it as essential to
maintain the unity of the vast Russian Federation.

Politkovskaya acted as a negotiator with Chechen rebels who laid siege
to a Moscow theater in 2002.

She was unable to report on the Beslan school siege two years later,
when Chechen rebels took hundreds of children hostage. She instead was
taken to hospital with food poisoning after drinking a cup of tea on
the plane.

Contract killings are not unusual in Moscow where gang violence
reigned after the fall of communism in 1991. Reporters have also been
targets.

U.S. journalist Paul Klebnikov was murdered in 2004 in Moscow. The
editor of the Russian edition of Forbes magazine was shot four times
as he left his office in central Moscow on July 9 of that year. His
killers have not been found.

A source close to the case told Reuters the investigation was focusing
on a possible link between Klebnikov's murder and his interest in the
possible misappropriation of Russian funds intended for the
reconstruction of Chechnya.

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] OIC Revives News Bodies to Counter Bias

Ahmad Zahid said the OIC also plans to set up a journalism center in Malaysia to train up reporters from Muslim countries. JEDDAH — The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) is reviving two Saudi-based news agencies to
counter biased Western reporting on Muslims. The Western media has lost its credibility with all its biased campaigns of reporting against Muslim countries, Malaysian Deputy Information Minister
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi he told reporters. He said Muslim countries faced a campaign of bias by the Western media and that the OIC had to counter that challenge. We have to make our news more reliable and credible.
The official said the 57-member OIC, currently chaired by Malaysia, would re-launch the International Islamic News Agency (IINA) and the Islamic States Broadcasting Organization (ISBO). The OIC set up both organizations in Jeddah in the
1970s to focus on news about the Islamic world and Islamic affairs, but both failed to make inroads into the Muslim market. The OIC on Wednesday, September 13, encouraged Muslim tycoons to buy shares in global media outlets to help
clear misconceptions about Islam and stop vilification of Muslims around the globe. Anti-Muslim media campaigns have been on the rise around the world since the 9/11 attacks, associating Islam and Muslims with violence and terrorism.
Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has accused Western media of applying double standards when reporting on Muslims, saying they were often ignorant about sensitive issues for Muslims.
Feet to the Fire, the Media after 9/11, a book by award winning journalist Kristina Borjesson, has raised questions over whether the US media was duped by the White House, was negligent or complicit in the
rush to war, and whether senior reporters were too close to government sources. US academic Stephen Schwartz had criticized the western media for failing to meet the challenge of reporting on Islam after the 9/11 attacks.
Malaysian Experience Ahmad Zahid said Malaysia would chair ISBO for two years to help it get off the ground again. He added that the pan-Islamic body would draw on Malaysia's experience in setting up a news service for
the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in June that aimed to provide an antidote to Western media. The OIC also plans to set up a journalism center in Malaysia to train up reporters from Muslim countries.
We have media from the West who are always suspicious of news coming in from the Middle East. With this center we can create a good and positive image of the press from the Islamic countries, Ahmad
Zahid said. So far, 15 countries had agreed to be part of the training center he added, but gave no date for its launch. Malaysia has recently proposed setting up an international Islamic journalism center to counter
mounting Islamophobia and coach non-Muslim journalists about Islam and Muslims. ___-- -- -- G. Waleed Kavalec-

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] WHY OUR PRAYERS ARE NOT ANSWERED

2006-10-10 Thread Khalid
Why are our prayers not answered?

Man has been asked repeatedly to ask Allah(swt) for that which he
desires. To end suffering, pain or to acquire that which we desire
the most, dua is made unto Allah(swt). In Surah Ghafir, Allah(swt)
says:

And your Lord says: Call on Me; I will answer your (Prayer) –
[Quran 40:60]

Yet many of our prayers go unanswered and people often wonder why
their prayers were not heard. All prayers made to Allah(swt) are
heard by Him:

When my servants ask you concerning me, (tell them) I am indeed
close (to them). I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he
calls on me. – [Quran 2:186]

Primarily, certain conditions apply to duas before they can be
answered:

1. A dua for something that is haram cannot be made and will not be
fulfilled. We cannot ask for that which is forbidden in Islam. Such
duas would definitely not be answered. Hence for starters we should
know that what we are asking for should be halal according to the
Islamic Shariah.

2. Our duas should be for our betterment. If Allah(swt) feels that
what we ask for will harm us then He will not grant us our wish. A
child who has no sense of what is harmful often cries and weeps
asking him mother to let him play with a knife. The mother knows that
he can cut himself and thus expose himself to pain if he is given the
knife and hence does not fulfill his request. Similarly we often ask
for things that are actually indeed harmful to us. Due to our limited
wisdom we cannot assess the harmful effects of it but Allah(swt) in
His Divine Wisdom knows of it and thus in order to protect us, He
does not fulfill our request.

I have often come across the younger generation who wish for a
certain person of the opposite sex to fall in love with them. When
these duas are not answered they get depressed and disheartened. Some
actually wish that they would have a love affair with that certain
person, not realizing that this dua falls under the category of a
forbidden act. Then there are others who wish for marriage which is
permissible in Islam but a dua fulfilling the first criteria does not
mean that it also fulfills the second criteria as mentioned above.

A person wishes for wealth but does not get it. Why? Allah(swt) in
His Divine Wisdom knows how we will spend that wealth. A person can
think but I would spend it in the cause of Allah(swt) however
they fail to realize that we dont know a fraction of what we are.
Only The Creator does. He knows that we might do all the wrong
things. These wrong things can lead us right to the footsteps of
Hell. Hence Allah(swt) in His Divine Wisdom is protecting us but we
in our non-existant wisdom fail to understand.

3. We should pray to Allah(swt) while having faith in Him and with
humility. We should express our need for Him.

Call on your Lord with humility and in private: for Allah loveth not
those who trespass beyond bounds.

Do no mischief on the earth, after it hath been set in order, but
call on Him with fear and longing (in your hearts): for the Mercy of
Allah is (always) near to those who do good. – [Quran 7:55-56]

Many a times we quickly say our Salah and hurriedly go through the
duas taking it for granted that because we have offered the Salah,
our prayers will be answered. This is not the way to make dua. We
must be sincere to Allah(swt)

4. This is one of the most important factors which we have to keep in
mind. Though we spend time weeping for what we desire, as soon as we
leave the masjid or our praying mats we continue with that which is
haram. We will indulge in all kinds of things that are forbidden by
Allah(swt) yet we expect Him to do as we have desired. Why is it that
while we refuse to follow and obey the commandments of Allah(swt), we
expect Him to do everything for us? We should always try to prove our
worth. Ask yourself why Allah should help you? Have your proven your
worth to Him?

Suffiyan At-Thawri answered the question why does Allah(swt) not
answer my prayer? very appropriately. He listed 10 points which I
will list below:

1- You know Allah(swt) YET you disobey Him.
2- You recite the Quran YET you dont act according to it.
3- You know shaitan YET you have agreed with him.
4- You proclaim your love of the messenger(saw) of Allah(swt) YET you
abandon his Sunnah.
5- You proclain your love for Paradise YET you do not act to gain it.
6- You proclaim your fear of the Fire YET you do not prevent
yourselves from sins.
7- You say indeed death is true YET you have not done anything to
prepare for it.
8- You point out the faults of others YET you do not look at your own
faults.
9- You eat of that which Allah(swt) has provided for you YET you do
not thank Him(swt).
10- You bury your dead YET you do not take a lesson from it.

How many of these 10 points hold to be true with us? If one would
assess themselves honestly, the results will be surprising.

5. Allah(swt)

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] US is establishing new strategies in the Middle East to contain Iran and Islamic forces--http://weekly.ahram.org.eg/2006/815/fr1.htm

2006-10-10 Thread S A Hannan

Dear members ,

Assalamu Alaikum. Please read the piece below from Al-Ahram weekly,
Cairo, which shows the US is establishing new strategies in the Middle East to
contain Iran and Islamic forces.US would never learn that it is the cause of
most problems in the world.

Shah Abdul Hannan

Arithmetic made simple
For the US, security now takes precedence over
democratisation. Dina
Ezzat reports on US Secretary of State Condoleezza
Rice's visit to Cairo

The 6+2 meeting with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
-- including the six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council Saudi
Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain, and
Jordan and Egypt -- held at the Egyptian capital brought together eight
Arab countries whose most obvious shared interests are
security-oriented: the containment of growing Iranian influence in the
eastern part of the Arab world, the stabilisation of Iraq and the
reigning in of political Islamist movements, especially
Iranian-supported Hizbullah and Hamas. It was lost on few, and certainly
not on those gathered outside Al-Azhar Mosque on Tuesday evening to
protest Rice's visit to Cairo, that these are interests shared by the US
administration.
The group first met with Rice last month on the fringe of the
UN General Assembly, the gathering an expansion of the regular
consultations held between the US secretary and the foreign ministers of
members of the GCC.
"The meeting was very useful and Secretary Rice asked for
another round to be held in Cairo. The Arabs thought this a positive way
to influence, as much as possible, the US perception of and plans for
the region," said Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed
Abul-Gheit.
Speaking to the press after a meeting held with Rice on
Tuesday afternoon the foreign minister was keen to dispel concerns that
the gathering signaled a new US-led Arab alliance aimed at undermining
Iran and curtailing the roles of Hizbullah and Hamas.
Tuesday's meeting was not, he insisted, about moderates
versus extremists but about the determination of Arab countries with
close ties with the US to encourage more active American engagement "to
help solve the real problem -- namely the Palestinian
question."
No date has been fixed for further meetings of a group
qualified by some as a " marriage de raison " between Washington
and its closest Arab allies, though suggestions have emerged that
Morocco has expressed its interest in joining.
Embarking on her Middle East tour which began on Sunday in
Jeddah and is expected to conclude today in Israel after stops in Cairo
and Ramallah, Rice said that "it was necessary to consult with, and in
effect rally, moderate forces." She argued the "GCC+2 effort" offers an
opportunity for "a new configuration to work with moderate states" and
support new voices of moderation in the region like the government of
Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Al-Siniora, the Palestinian Authority of
Mahmoud Abbas and the government of Iraq. It is a configuration, she
said, that "can be quite powerful in resisting extremist forces". Yet
during her joint press conference in Cairo with Abul-Gheit on Tuesday
evening she avoided all mention of this "new configuration" of
moderation.
The organisers of the meeting cancelled plans to include the
Jordanian foreign minister and the secretary-general of the GCC in the
final press conference in an attempt to deflect accusations that a new
sub-regional gathering was indeed being formed.
"This is not an exclusive club and it is wrong to perceive it
as such," said one Egyptian diplomat. There was no attempt, he said, to
undermine the role of the Arab League in favour of a new group. "Arab
participants made it clear to Rice that they were acting in line with
the Arab consensus reached under the umbrella of the
League."
The meeting, Abul-Gheit told journalists, concentrated mainly
on ways to revive Palestinian-Israeli negotiations, to allow for African
Union forces in Darfur to be strengthened without offending Khartoum and
on promoting stability in Iraq.
Iran, Abul-Gheit and Rice both said, was discussed only in
light of on-going efforts to convince Tehran to suspend its plans to
enrich uranium.
The meeting also broached the future of regional security
arrangements. Participants agreed to act to halt funds from being
channeled to Hamas in order to

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Signs Of Weak Imaan

From: Khalid Latif [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, October 02, 2006 2:18 PMTo: Khalid LatifSubject: FW: Definitely worth reading : SIGNS OF WEAK IMAAN SIGNS OF WEAK IMAAN 1) Committing sins and not feeling any guilt. 2) Having a hard heart and no desire to read the Quran. 3) Feeling too lazy to do
good deeds, e.g. being late for salat 4) Neglecting the Sunnah. 5) Having mood swings, for instance being upset about petty things and bothered and irritated most of the time.
   6) Not feeling anything when hearing verses from the Quran, for example when Allah warns us of punishments and His promise of glad tidings. 7) Finding difficulty in remembering Allah and making dhikr. 8)
Not feeling bad when things are done against the Shariah. 9) Desiring status and wealth. 10) Being mean and miserly, i.e. not wanting to part with wealth. 11) Ordering others to do good deeds when not practising them ourselves. 12) Feeling pleased when things are not progressing for others. 13) Being concerned with whether something is haram or halal only; and not avoiding makroo (not recommended) things. 14) Making fun of people who do simple good deeds, like cleaning the mosque. 15) Not feeling concerned about the situation of Muslims. 16) Not feeling the responsibility to do something to promote Islam. 17) Being unable
to deal with calamities, for instance crying and yelling in funerals. 18) Liking to argue just for the sake of arguing without any proof. 19) Becoming engrossed and very involved with dunya, worldly things, i.e. feeling bad only when losing something
in terms of material wealth. 20) Becoming engrossed and obsessive about ourselves. LISTED BELOW ARE WAYS TO INCREASE OUR IMAAN 1) Recite and ponder on the meanings of the Quran. Tranquility then descends and our hearts become soft. To get optimum benefit, remind yourself that Allah is speaking to you. People are described in different categories in the Quran; think of which one you find yourself in. 2) Realize the greatness of Allah. Everything is under His control. There are signs in everything we see that points us to His greatness. Everything happens according to His permission. Allah keeps track and looks after everything, even a black ant on a black rock on a black moonless night. 3) Make an effort to gain knowledge, for at least the basic things in daily life e.g. how to make wudu properly.
Know the meanings behind Allah's names and attributes. People who have taqwa are those who have knowledge. 4) Attend gatherings where Allah is remembered. In such
gatherings we are surrounded by angels. 5) We have to increase our good deeds. One good deed leads to another good deed. Allah will make the way easy for someone who gives charity and also make it easy for him or her to do good deeds. Good deeds must be done continuously, not in spurts. 6) We must fear the miserable end to our lives; the remembrance of death is the destroyer of pleasures. 7) Remember the different levels of akhirah, for instance when we are put in our graves, when we are judged, whether we will be in paradise or hell. 8) Make dua, realize that we need Allah. Be humble. Don't covet material things in this life. 9) Our love for Subhana Wa Ta'Ala must be shown in actions. We must hope Allah will accept our prayers, and be in constant fear that we do wrong. At night before going to sleep, we must think about what good we did during that day. 10) Realize the effects of sins and disobedience- one's imaan is increased with good deeds and our imaan is decreased by bad deeds. Everything that happens is because Allah wanted it. When calamity befalls us- it is also from Allah. It is a direct result of our disobedience to Allah."KEEP THIS CIRCULATING - IT WILL HELP US BECOME BETTER MUSLIMS, INSHA - ALLAH" All praises and thanks be to Allah, Lord of everything that exists. The most Gracious, the Most Merciful.Master of the Day of Judgment You (alone) we worship, and You (alone) we ask for help.Guide us to the Straight Way The Way of of those on whom You have bestowed Your Grace, not (the way) of those who earned Your Anger, nor those who went astray. How A Muslim Should Deal With Stress and Anxiety
25 Ways to Deal with Stress and Anxiety

Answered by Abdul Malik Mujahid

How A Muslim Should Deal With Stress and Anxiety

Stress is life. Stress is anything that causes mental, physical, or spiritual
tension. There is no running away from it. All that matters is how you deal
with it. This article does not deal with the factors of stress, anxiety, and
depression, nor is it a clinical advice. If you feel depressed, you are not
alone. It has been estimated that 75 to 90 percent of all visits to primary
care physicians in America are for stress-related problems. This is why it is
wise to consult a doctor if you are having physical symptoms of stress.
However, here are some tips that can help from a spiritual perspective.

Torture. Beatings. Loss of property. The death of loved ones. These were
just some of the enormous challenges the Muslims of Makkah faced in the
seventh century following their acceptance of Islam in fiercely tribal and
polytheistic Makkah.

Detention. Harassment. Beatings. Discrimination. Loss of Job. Profiling.
Hate Crimes. Constant media attention. Surveillance. These are just some of
the challenges Muslims in America today face, post-9/11. Like our
predecessors in Makkah, we have begun to face great stress, anxiety, and
pressure, more than ever in our recent history on this continent, although
Muslims who were brought here as slaves faced worse than what we can even
imagine.

1. Ask Him. He Listens: DU`A

Turn each anxiety, each fear and each concern into a Dua (supplication). Look
at it as another reason to submit to God and be in Sajdah (prostration), during
which you are closest to Allah. God listens and already knows what is in your
heart, but He wants you to ask Him for what you want.

The Prophet said: Allah is angry with those who do not ask Him for anything
(Tirmidhi).

The Prophet once said that in prayer, he would find rest and relief (Nasai). He
would also regularly ask for God's forgiveness and remain in prostration during
prayer praising God (Tasbeeh) and asking for His forgiveness (Bukhari).

Allah wants you to be specific. The Prophet advised us to ask Allah for exactly
what we want instead of making vague Duas. Dua is the essence of worship (the
Prophet as quoted in Tirmidhi).

Call on your Lord with humility and in private: for Allah loveth not those who
trespass beyond bounds. Do not make mischief on the earth, after it hath been
set in order, but call on Him with fear. And longing (in your hearts): for the
mercy of Allah is (always) near to those who do good (Quran 7:55-56).

2. Tie your Camel: DO YOUR PART

One day Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, noticed a Bedouin
leaving his camel without tying it. He asked the Bedouin, Why don't you tie
down your camel? The Bedouin answered, I put my trust in Allah. The Prophet
then said, Tie your camel first, then put your trust in Allah (Tirmidhi).

Muslims must never become fatalistic. Although we know only Allah is in
control and that He has decreed all things, we are each responsible for making
the right choices and doing the right thing in all situations of our lives. We
must take action (link to planning articles on SV). We must work to alleviate
the hardships we, our families and our communities face.

Ask yourself the following questions if you are worried about the state of the
world: are you part of the peace movement? Is your Masjid part of the peace
movement? Are you part of an interfaith group with an agenda of peace and
justice? Are you working with a group fighting discrimination? If your answer
is no, it is time that you sat down to plan your share of time and money in
finding solutions to the problems you face.

Verily Allah does not change men's condition unless they change their inner
selves (Quran 13: 11).

Turn each worry into a Du`a and each Du`a into an action plan. That will show

3. Remember that human responsibility is limited

While we need to carry out our duty to the best of our abilities, always
remember that you don't control the outcome of events. Even the Prophets did
not control the outcome of their efforts. Some were successful, others were
not. Once you have done your duty, leave the results to Allah. Regardless of
the results of your efforts, you will be rewarded for the part you have played.

However, never underestimate your abilities. Understand the concept of Barakah

Use the five daily prayers as a means to become more Hereafter-oriented and
less attached to this temporary world. Start distancing yourself as soon as you

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Pope Excommunicates Zambian Archbishop - Put Your House in Order First Your Holiness

2006-10-10 Thread Alan Border

“O ye who believe! If ye listen to a faction among the People of the Book, they would (indeed) render you apostates after ye have believed!” (Al-Qur'an, 3:100 Aal-E-Imran [The Family of Imran]) Pope Excommunicates Zambian Archbishopby Martine Nouaille Tue Sep 26, 12:49 PM ET http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20060926/wl_afp/vaticanzambia_060926164623VATICAN CITY (AFP) - A Zambian archbishop, who stunned the Roman Catholic Church in 2001 by getting married in a mass "Moony" ceremony, has been excommunicated for ordaining four married men as bishops, the Vatican has said. Milingo, who has a fondness for carrying out exorcisms and advocates optional celibacy for Roman Catholic priests, was excommunicated because of "his increasing split" with church regulations and for "sowing division and disarray among the faithful,"
Tuesday's statement said. The archbishop ordained the four men in Washington on Sunday, despite what the Vatican said were several attempts by the Holy See to dissuade him
otherwise. The excommunication was carried out "latae sententiae" (literally "by the law itself") -- an automatic expulsion resulting from serious violation of canonical law.Other offences incurring such a severe penalty include heresy, apostasy, schism, violence against the pope and procuring abortion. Milingo, 76, was archbishop of Lusaka from 1969 until 1983, when the Vatican asked him to resign because he refused to stop using rituals that were judged to be inconsistent with Catholic teaching. In 2001, he shocked the Catholic establishment by marrying a Korean acupuncturist in a mass wedding ceremony in New York presided over by Reverend Sun Myung Moon, founder of the Unification Church. Under threat of excommunication from the pope at the time, John Paul II, Milingo renounced the marriage two and a half months later and said he had decided to return to the church. The Vatican sent him on a year's retreat to a religious order in Argentina, after which he spent four years at a spiritual centre in Zagarolo, east of Rome, where his activities were closely monitored. He reportedly disappeared from Zagarolo in July, only to turn up days later at a press conference in Washington to announce the formation of "Married Priests Now!" -- a group aimed at defending the rights of Catholic priests to
wed.The Roman Catholic Church requires that all priests be celibate and any choosing to marry must first leave the priesthood. Born in 1930 in a village in eastern Zambia, Milingo became a Catholic priest at age 28.Famous across Africa for his radio broadcasts, the Zambian preacher was nominated Archbishop of Lusaka at age 39, a post he held for 14 years before falling out of favor with the Vatican over his activities as a healer and an exorcist. He was recalled to Rome in 1983 but managed to keep his rank of archbishop.
Later, in his autobiography "The Healer of Souls, " he accused the Vatican of "kidnapping" him and forcing him to live for months -- "like a prisoner" -- in a monastery. At one point, he even managed to record a couple of music albums, the first entitled "Gubudu Gubudu" ("The Drunkard") and the second an eponymous album dedicated to the continuing battle against evil.AB [EMAIL PROTECTED] "For to us will be their return; then it will be

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] THE REALITY OF INTEREST AND ITS MODERN INTERPRETATIONS

2006-10-10 Thread Saba Khan
Title
   Regarding Riba (interest)

Question
Respected Mufti Sahib, I am trying to convince my
father that Riba is Haraam and is strictly forbidden
in Islam. I told him that taking as well as giving
interest is haraam which means a muslim cannot buy a
car or house on interest. My father asked me to
provide a relevant hadith or ayaat to support this
point. Your kind assistance would be appreciated.
Jazakallah.

Answer
THE REALITY OF INTEREST AND ITS MODERN
INTERPRETATIONS The history of the prohibition of
Interest In the Torah (Old Testament) where
intoxicants, fornication and the consumption of pork
are declared unlawful interest is also prohibited.
This bears testimony to the fact that Interest was
unlawful and prohibited during the time of the Banu
Israaeel (Children of Israel). But the Jews in their
egoism and transgression revolted against this divine
law with such intensity that they became proverbial
USURERS and INTEREST EATERS. During the time of the
Zaboor, a group condemned for their transgression.
'Those of the children of Israel who went astray were
cursed by the tongue of Dawood and of Eesa, son of
Maryam. That was because they rebelled and used to
transgress.' (Sura 7 v. 78) This accursed nation was
continuously afflicted with punishments and calamities
even upto the present day. Their empires and kingdoms
were repeatedly overthrown and they wandered from
door-to-door. This was in reality the consequences of
their insatiable evil deed to consume interest and
their insanity, through which they had murdered their
own messengers and prophets (Alayhimus salaam),
falsely accused them and rejected their miracles. When
the Christian empire was established, one Jew deluded
Christians by proclaiming that Jesus was the son of
God, thereby distorting the reality of Christianity.
During the era of the Christian invasion of Europe,
practically every lawful thing was declared unlawful.
Interest devouring has reached its peak, such a level
especially after the two world wars. That practically
the entire world's economy evolves around this most
destructive system. RIBA OR INTEREST Interest in the
Holy Qur'an is referred to as 'Riba'. Riba is derived
from the word, 'Ribwun' which literally means
'increase'. This outward increase, in reality, is a
loss. Allah most High sanctions in the Noble Qur'an:
'Allah has blighted Usury and made almsgiving
fruitful' This verse explicitly explains the reality
of Interest and its result. In the above verse, the
word 'Yurbi' is used in its literal meaning which
means increase and the word 'Riba' is used in its
figurative meaning: that excess in a transaction,
against which there is no value. If the above meanings
are not observed, the correct translation of this
verse will not be possible. This verse informs us that
the apparent (outer) increase in Interest is in
reality decrease and loss and the apparent (outer)
decrease in charity is in reality expansion and
increase. INTEREST IS HARAAM (IN ITS NATURE AND
SUBSTANCE) Allah most High has made unlawful for the
believers all types and forms of interest because
interest in its nature and essence is Haraam and the
prohibiting factor is also found in it i.e. decreasing
and abolishing. These two realities i.e. prohibition
and decreasing are original qualities of the very
nature of interest and because the original properties
can never be abandoned. From it, no portion of
interest can be free from these two qualities.
Consequently, each and every part of interest is
forbidden and Haraam. The conclusion that little
interest and single interest is lawful proves total
ignorance of the reality of interest or is based upon
false imputations. MR SABSWARI'S MISCONCEPTION Mr
Sabswari has termed the Alif laam on the word Al riba
in the verse 'Allah permitted trading and forbiddeth
usury' as an indication to a particular type of
interest, not all types of interest. He terms that
particular type of interest, as compound interest. He
claims that this verse forbids only compound interest
and not all interests. He further tries to
substantiate this by using Imaam Razi's statement that
the Alif laam on the word Riba is similar to the Alif
laam on the word 'bay' which really means that the
permission granted to trading in the said verse refers
to a particular type of trade. What particular trade
is meant in this verse? It is evident that this view
of Mr Sabswari is incorrect. In reality, the word alif
laam in both the words Riba and Bay' (Trade) are
general and refer to all types of trade and interest.
Unfortunately, Mr Sabswari who is not a theologian,
wrongly substantiated his view with the words of Imaam
Razi (and could not understand these words from Imaam
Razi RA). The verse prohibiting Interest is not Muskil
(an Aayat which does not give a definite meaning and
requires some interpretation to understand it) nor it
is Mushtabeeh (an Aayat bearing more than one meaning
and requires something to determine which meaning is
meant)

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Suddenly, I'm an 'Islamic Fascist' Thanks to Fascist Bush

2006-10-10 Thread Alan Border

“George Bush is a Man who ‘Believes Wednesday What He Believed Monday, Despite What Happened Tuesday.’ - Comedian Stephen Colbert Suddenly, I'm an 'Islamic Fascist'by Jonathan Cook http://www.antiwar.com/orig/cook.php?articleid=9524 It occurred to me as I watched
the story unfolding on my TV of a suspected plot by a group of at least 20 British Muslims to blow up planes between the UK and America that the course of my life and that of the alleged "terrorists" may have run in parallel in more ways than one. Like a number of them, I am originally from High Wycombe, one of the nondescript commuter towns that ring London. As aerial shots wheeled above the tiled roof of a semi-detached house there, I briefly thought I was looking at my mother's home. But doubtless my and their lives have diverged in numerous ways. According to news reports, the suspects are probably Pakistani, a large "immigrant" community that has settled in many corners of Britain, including High Wycombe and Birmingham, a gray metropolis in the country's center where at least some of the arrested men are believed to have been born. Britain's complacent satisfaction with its multiculturalism and tolerance ignores the facts that Pakistanis and other ethnic minorities mostly live in their own segregated spaces on the margins of British life. "Native" Britons like me – the white ones – generally assume that is out of choice: "They stick to their own kind." Many of
us rarely come into contact with a Pakistani unless he is serving us what we call "Indian food" or selling us a packet of cigarettes in a corner shop. So, even though we may have been neighbors of a sort in High Wycombe, my life and theirs probably had few points of contact. But paradoxically, that changed, I think, five years ago when I left Britain. I moved to Nazareth in Israel, an Arab – Muslim and Christian – community on the very margins of the self-declared Jewish state. In the ghetto of Nazareth, I rarely meet Israeli Jews unless I venture out for work or I find myself sitting next to them in a local restaurant as they order hummus from an Arab waiter, just as I once asked for a madras curry in High Wycombe. When Israeli Jews briefly visit the ghetto, I suddenly realize how much, by
living here, I have become an Arab by default. Living on the margins of any society is an alienating experience that few who are rooted in the heartland of the consensus can ever hope to understand. Such alienation can easily deepen into something less passive, far more destructive, when you find yourself not only marginalized but your loyalty, rationality, even your sanity, called into question. As we approach the fifth official anniversary of the "war on terror," the foiled UK "terror plot" has neatly provided George W. Bush, the "leader of the free world," with a chance to remind us of our fight against the "Islamic fascists." But what if the war on terror is not really about separating the good guys from the bad guys, but about deciding what a good guy can be allowed to say and think? What if the "Islamic fascism" President Bush warns us of is not just the terrorism associated with Osama bin Laden and his elusive al-Qaeda network but a set of views that many Arabs, Muslims, and Pakistanis – even the odd humanist – consider normal, even enlightened? What if the war on "Islamic fascism" is less about fighting terrorism and more about silencing those who dissent from the West's endless wars against the Middle East? At some point, I suspect, I joined the Islamic fascists without my even noticing. Were my name different, my skin color different, my religion different, I might feel a lot more threatened by that realization. How would Homeland Security judge me if I stepped off a plane in the U.S. tomorrow and told officials not only that I am appalled by the humanitarian crises in Lebanon and Gaza but also that I do not believe the war on terror should be directed against either the Lebanese or the Palestinians? How would they respond if, further, I described as nonsense the idea that Hezbollah or the political leaders of
Hamas are "terrorists"? I have my reasons, good ones I think, but would anyone take them seriously? What would the officials make of my argument that, before Israel's war on Lebanon, no one could point to a single terrorist incident Hezbollah had been responsible for in at least a decade? Would the authorities appreciate my comment that a terrorist organization that doesn't do terrorism is a chimera, a figment of the president's imagination? Equally, what would they make of my belief that Hezbollah does not want to wipe Israel off the map? Would they find me convincing if I told them that Israel, not Hezbollah, is the aggressor in the conflict: that following Israel's supposed withdrawal from south Lebanon in 2000, Lebanon experienced barely a day of peace from the terrifying sonic booms of Israeli war planes violating the country's airspace? Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Terrorism Is Not a Muslim Monopoly - World's Famous Scholar Dr.Zakir Naik

Subject: FW: Terrorism Is Not a Muslim Monopoly: Zakir

Terrorism Is Not a Muslim Monopoly: Dr Zakir

JEDDAH, 27 September 2006 - Terrorism is not a Muslim monopoly, was the
message delivered by international da'wa activist Dr. Zakir Naik in a
lecture delivered at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI)
auditorium on Monday night.

Speaking after Taraweeh prayers to a packed audience of over 5,000
people consisting of both male and female Saudis and expatriates, Dr.
Zakir categorically explained the meaning of terrorism.

Quoting historical facts and figures, he explained how the assumption
that not all Muslims are terrorists but all terrorists are Muslim was
untrue.

Dr. Zakir, who is one of the Muslim world's leading and most prolific
speakers, quoted from the scriptures of other religions and proved that
associating killing with Islam is incorrect.

It says in the Book of Numbers that whoever worships other than god
then he should be killed, he said, referring to the Bible. This is a
media conspiracy and a way of pushing people away from Islam. In every
religion there are black sheep and the media keep putting these people
forward, he added.

We should learn how to turn the tables and convey the real meaning,
said Dr. Zakir, while calling on Muslims to dispel the media's vilifying
of Muslims and the importance of having Muslim television channels and
newspapers.

The speech was followed by a lively question-and-answer session in which
Dr. Zakir dealt with questions from the audience on terrorism and
comparative religion. He also announced that he was more than ready to
participate in a theological debate with preachers from other religions.

Meanwhile, in a private iftar meeting with journalists on Saturday at
the home of Dr. Huda Fatany, a lecturer at the King Abdul Aziz
University, Dr. Zakir called on Muslim businessmen across the world to
boycott the US dollar and predicted that such a move would, within two
years, see the end of the US as an economic superpower.

Having described the war on terror as an excuse to take control of
Middle Eastern oil reserves, Dr. Zakir called on businessmen to boycott
the dollar. Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has
provided us with a strategy to stop the US, which is to target the US
economy. The first thing we should do is to stop dealing in dollars...
America is presently in debt, the dollar is in debt and half the finance
of the country is in debt, he claimed.

Dr. Zakir added that if governments were unwilling to boycott the dollar
then businessmen and businesswomen should themselves individually
boycott the currency and advised them to deal in riyals, dirhams, gold
and euros.

Use the euro as an alternative. The process of having an Islamic
currency would take time and so we shouldn't wait for that, he said,
adding, Now if someone insists on dealing in dollars then make sure you
change currency as soon as possible. When you change the currency then
the banks will send the dollars back to the US - within two years their
economy will collapse. For us to achieve this, we need our businessmen
to stop dealing in dollars. Once their economy collapses then their
position as an economic superpower will end.

Dr. Zakir spoke about the war on terror and also about Pope Benedict's
recent remarks earlier this month.

He described the pope's comments as completely baseless and not
befitting the leader of the Catholic Church. The apology he delivered
was, according to me, a half-half apology. The pope said he was pained
that Muslims were pained by his statement; he should have rather
admitted his speech was wrong. I feel that the papal apology was
incorrect. The pope's response to the protests was also wrong. From
this, I feel it seems that whatever he said, he said it deliberately. It
is not like as if he said what he said without knowing, said Dr. Zakir.

Speaking at another iftar gathering in Jeddah on Sunday hosted by Afaq
Baig Mirza, executive director of AISCO, Dr. Zakir also revealed that
his Islamic television Channel Peace TV was viewed in 125 countries
making up three-fourths of the world and disclosed plans to open two
more channels: One in English and another in Urdu.

Dr. Zakir also spoke about the success of his school, which gives
priority to teaching Arabic and where sciences are taught with an
Islamic perspective. Similar schools will be established in Dubai and
Riyadh, he added.

Dr. Zakir is a writer and speaker from Bombay who specializes on Islam
and comparative religion. A medical doctor by training, Dr. Zakir
travels extensively and works toward clearing misconceptions about Islam
among both Muslims and non-Muslims. Presently he is touring the Kingdom
and has been scheduled to deliver lectures in Riyadh.

The JCCI lecture was sponsored by the World Assembly of Muslim Youth
(WAMY).

refuse to let her, then what should shedo?Ans. If
their refusal only refers to her not covering her face and hands, then
she has to obey her parents in that, but if their refusal includes more
than that, then,"There is no obedience to the creation in disobedience

PST)JEDDAH: Eminent scholar of comparative religion Dr. Zakir Naik has invited Pope Benedict XVI for an open inter-faith dialogue. The Pope`s recent statement, which included a quote from a 14th century Byzantine emperor, sparked outrage in the Muslim world. In his latest efforts to calm down the Muslim anger the Pope invited diplomats from 20 Islamic countries at his summer residence in south of Rome. This extraordinary gathering was seen as the latest effort by Benedict XVI to quell the furor stirred two weeks ago by controversial remarks he made about Islam. He is attempting to channel the emotion into what he calls an authentic and respectful dialogue. Dr. Naik sees the Pope`s statement on Islam as pre-planned. "He (the Pope) knew very well what he was speaking at University of Regensburg in Germany on September 12," he said. "The Pope`s
apology to the Muslims was at all not an apology rather it was putting salt on the wounds," said Dr. Naik, adding that the Pope should have explicitly apologized and retracted his statement. Benedict XVI seems to be toeing the same line of neo-con as that of President George Bush, he said. Dr. Naik said if the Pope wants to initiate an authentic dialogue then he is more than willing to participate in such an inter-faith debate. "I am more than willing to participate in the inter-faith dialogue with Pope Benedict XVI. I am ready on any topic he (the Pope) wishes as long as it focuses on Quran and the Bible," Dr. Naik said. He said he can go to Rome or Vatican to meet the Pope. "I can go to Rome and to Vatican on my own expense if an Italian visa is arranged for me," he told ONLINE after delivering his lecture on
"20 most common questions about misconceptions of Islam," organized by Sri Lankan Embassy in Riyadh, attended by a number of ambassadors, diplomatic staff and members of the Sri Lankan community. Dr. Naik during the past three years has delivered over 600 lectures in the US and Canada. "I am absolutely ready for an open and public debate with the pope under live international TV coverage," he said. Let the 1.3 billion Muslims and 2 billion Christians around the world listen to the debate based on equal slot of time allotted to both sides, he said. "It is not only a debate but also a question and answer session allowing the people to ask queries," he said. He said he is not in favor of closed-door meeting with the Pope, as was suggested by his predecessor Pope John Paul II, when South African-based Islamic scholar Ahmed Deedat invited him for open dialogue,
he said. "Pope John Paul told Shaikh Deedat to come to his cabin for a debate," he said and added why does the inter-faith dialogue be held behind closed doors? Dr. Naik said the best way to counter the onslaught on Islam is that the Muslims should have their own media. "Unfortunately, most of the international media is controlled by the Western (lobby). Unless you (Muslims) have your own media they (Westernerns) can very conveniently convert black into white, day into night, a hero into a villain and a villain into a hero," he said. Dr. Naik, who has launched his own religious satellite channel called Peace TV, said Muslims do have their own media but what he meant by international media is similar to the Time and Newsweek and TV channels such as the BBC and CNN, when Muslims can project their views and convey the message in right perspective. "I have a future plan to launch a news channel," he said. He said there are at least 100 Muslims
that he knew, who can take such an initiative and launch at least 10 satellite channels. People should not wait for Muslims organizations such as IIRA or OIC to take steps in this direction, he said. "Any individual businessman can take the initiative if Muslim bodies such as OIC or IIRA are not coming forward in this direction," he said. Dr. Naik has also endorsed former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Muhamamd`s views that the Muslims should stop to operate US dollar-denominated bank accounts. "I have been preaching (that) Muslims should stop dealing in dollar," he said. He also called on the Muslim world to launch an Islamic currency to counter dealing in dollar. Muslim countries should not peg their currencies to the dollar. "By that time the individuals and businessmen should stop dealing in dollar," he said. He said he has been mobilizing the people wherever he goes asking them not to keep dollar accounts or even the currency.

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Jack Straw's Last Straw - Dislikes Muslim Women Wearing the Veil

2006-10-10 Thread Alan Border

“In Diplomacy You Can Use a Little Persuasion Not Intimidation. But It is a GREY Area Between the Two. Who Knows Which is Which.” - AB Straw Veil Call Sparks Muslim Fury POSTED: 9:49 a.m. EDT, October 6, 2006 http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/europe/10/06/uk.straw/index.html?eref=yahoo LONDON, England -- A senior British Cabinet minister has sparked fury by saying that Muslim women who wore full veils made community relations more difficult. Jack Straw wrote in a newspaper that a veil was "a visible statement of separation and difference" and that he was more comfortable dealing with female visitors to his local political office with their faces uncovered. But Muslim leaders in Straw's Blackburn constituency in northwest
England said many Muslim women would find his comments "offensive and disturbing." Straw, leader of the House of Commons and the former foreign secretary, said he was concerned that "wearing the full veil was bound to make better, positive relations between the two communities more difficult." Asked on Friday if he would like veils to be discarded altogether, Straw said: "Yes. It needs to be made clear I am not talking about being prescriptive but with all the caveats, yes, I would rather." "You cannot force people where they live, that's a matter of choice and economics, but you
can be concerned about the implications of separateness and I am," he told the BBC. Straw originally wrote in the Lancashire Telegraph that he asked women to remove their veils in his constituency office. "I felt uncomfortable about talking to someone 'face to face' who I could not see," he wrote. No one had refused his request, he said. Straw pointed out that he defended Muslims' rights to wear head scarves and that wearing a
full veil "breaks no laws." But opposition politicians rounded on his comments. Conservative policy director Oliver Letwin said it would be a "dangerous doctrine" to instruct people how to dress, while Liberal Democrat chairman Simon Hughes described the remarks as "insensitive and surprising." And Straw faced criticism in his own constituency. The Lancashire Council of Mosques said the Commons leader had "misunderstood" the issue and it was "deeply concerned" by his "very insensitive and unwise" statement. "For such a seasoned and astute politician to make such a comment that has shocked his Muslim constituents seems ill judged and misconceived," a spokesman told the Press Association.
"Many of these women find Mr. Straw's comments both offensive and disturbing." The radical Hizb ut-Tahrir organization said the Muslim community "does not need lessons in dress from Jack Straw." "He has once again shown that for Cabinet ministers it is open season on Muslims and Islam," said spokesperson Nazreen Nawaz. However, Daud Abdullah, of the Muslim Council of Britain, said he understood Straw's views. "This (the veil) does cause some discomfort to non-Muslims. One
can understand this," he said. And some of Straw's colleagues backed Straw, with chairperson Hazel Blears saying his request to constituents was "perfectly proper." Downing Street said the Commons leader was expressing a private opinion. AB [EMAIL PROTECTED] "For to us will be their return; then it will be for us to call them to account."
