Surah al-Tawbah (The Repentance) - Chapter 9: Verses 53-54

Fatal Rebellion
Say: "Spend (for the Cause) willingly or unwillingly: not from you will it be
accepted: for ye are indeed a people rebellious and wicked. The only reasons
why their contributions are not accepted are: that they reject Allah and His
Messenger; that they come to prayer without earnestness; and that they offer
contributions unwillingly."

The hypocrites, who secretly plotted against Islam, might sometimes (and they
did) make a show of making some contribution to the Cause in order to keep
their pretence. Their contributions were not acceptable, whether they seemed to
give willingly or unwillingly, because rebellion and disobedience were in their
hearts.

Three reasons are specifically given for their rejection:
  1.. They did not believe;
2.. Their prayers were not earnest, but for mere show; and
3.. In reality their hearts were not behind the contributions which they
offered.
Nothing is acceptable to Allah which does not proceed from a pure and sincere
heart. But this does not absolve, rather only warns. The obligations of Islam,
of whatever nature they be, must be performed, whatever the condition of the
heart, and forgiveness sought for deficiencies.

Understanding the Prophet's Life
Sense of Innocence

The Messenger loved children, with their innocence, gentleness, and ability to
be present in the moment. Close to God, close to his own heart, he remained
attentive to those who primarily understood the heart's language. He kissed
them, carried them on his shoulders, and played with them, reaching toward
their innocence, which is in its essence the expression of a permanent prayer
to God.

Children, like angels, wholly belong to God. They are signs. The Prophet's
attitude was a constant reminder of this: thus if his ritual prayer to God was
disturbed by a baby crying - the infant, in effect, praying to God by invoking
his or her mother - the Messenger would then shorten his adult's prayer as if
to respond to the child's prayer. The Messenger, moreover, drew from children
his sense of play and innocence; from them he learned to look at people and the
world around him with wonder.

>From watching children experience beauty he also more fully developed his
>sense of aesthetics: in front of beauty, he wept, he was moved, he sometimes
>sobbed, and he was often filled with well-being by the poetic musicality of a
>phrase or by the spiritual call of a verse offered by the Most Gracious, the
>Infinitely Beautiful.

Hazards and Perils

Rejoice you must, in the mercy and blessing and generosity of Allah. Seek you
must, for the treasures that await your search herein. But the Qur'an opens its
doors only to those who knock with a sense of yearning, a sincerity of purpose
and an exclusive attention that befit its importance and majesty. And only
those are allowed to gather its treasures, while they walk through it, who are
prepared to abandon themselves completely to its guidance and do their utmost
to absorb it.

It may quite possibly happen therefore that you may read the Qur'an endlessly,
turn its pages laboriously, recite its words beautifully, study it most
scholarly, and still fail to make an encounter with it that enriches and
transforms your whole person. For, all those who read the Qur'an do not profit
from it as they should. Some remain unblessed; some are even cursed.

The journey has its own hazards, as it must, just as it has its own precious
and limitless rewards. Many never turn to it, though the Book always lies near
at hand, and many are turned away from its gates. Many read it often, but come
back empty-handed; while many others who read it never really enter its world.
Some do not find, but are lost. They fail to hear God even among His own words;
instead, they hear their own voices or those other than God's. Still others,
though they hear God, fail to find inside themselves the will, the resolve and
the courage to respond and live by His call. Some lose even what they had and,
instead of collecting priceless gems, they return with back-breaking loads of
stones which will hurt them for ever and ever.

What a tragic misfortune it would be if y

He is the First (nothing is before Him) and the Last (nothing is after Him),
the Most High (nothing is above Him) and the Most Near (nothing is nearer than

Allah created the universe from nothing and, ultimately, will return it to

Allah, the Creator of life and time, is not affected by any of matter's
characteristics. Given that He is infinite, He will exist for all eternity,
existed in the infinite past, and is unaffected by time and space. This fact is
stressed in the Qur'an, as follows:

Whatsoever is on it (the earth) will perish. And the Face of your Lord full
of Majesty and Honour will abide forever. ( Surat ar-Rahman, 55:26-27)

*How to Prevent Family Disorders *

To prevent family disorders, married men and women need to keep certain
points in mind and practice them in their lives, as below:

*1)* One of the basic points for successful family life is self-knowledge.
Every man and woman has certain capabilities and limitations, which they
need to discover within themselves. The husband and wife, who are clearly
aware of their good and bad points and the reality of their personalities,
will have fewer disputes in their family lives. Then it is necessary that
the husband and wife accept one another and love one another with all
his/her faults and finer points.

*2)* The husband and wife should respect one another and should not do
anything to cause disrespect or hate in the other party. Married couples
should hold themselves and their spouses in high regard and should be aware
that if they want or like their spouses to be or act according to their own
opinions, it is only going to be a waste of time and effort. People are all
different. Married couples should accept one another as they are, and not
try to compare one another to others, because this only inflicts
psychological injury.

*3)* Married couples should foster their talents. Couples can become
acquainted with their particular talents in various fields, for example,
sports, physical expertise, interest in study, and other fields. The more
that couples study and read about different topics, on a daily basis, the
more valuable their lives will become.

*4)* Couples need to form close relationships with others. The reason for
many family disputes lies in separation and seclusion from others. A husband
and wife, who like others are part of the society, need the support, calm
and assurance that come from others - ( e.g., family members, friends,
neighbors, etc.). For this reason it is necessary to have close, active
affectionate and at the same time healthy and well-rooted relationships with
others in order to prevent family disputes.

Ayaths Regarding signs of hypocrites in The Quran

  * Sign: Causing Corruption and Mischief upon the earth
"And when it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: ‘We
are only peacemakers.’ Verily! They are the ones who make mischief, but they
perceive not." Al-Baqarah 2:11,12

* Sign: Inspiring one another with evil words
"And so We have appointed for every Prophet enemies - Shayâtin (devils) among
mankind and jinns, inspiring one another with adorned speech as a delusion (or
by way of deception). If your Lord had so willed, they would not have done it,
so leave them alone with their fabrications." Al-An‘âm 6:112

* Sign: Deception and Mendacity
"They (think to) deceive Allâh and those who believe, while they only deceive
themselves, and perceive (it) not!" al-Baqarah 2:9

* Sign: Mocking the believers
"And when they meet those who believe, they say: "We believe," but when they
are alone with their Shayâtin (devils - polytheists, hypocrites, etc.), they
say: "Truly, we are with you; verily, we were but mocking." Al-Baqarah 2:14

* Sign: Laziness, heedlessness and forgetfulness of Allâh
"Verily, the hypocrites seek to deceive Allâh, but it is He Who deceives
them. And when they stand up for As-Salât (the prayer), they stand with
laziness and to be seen of men, and they do not remember Allâh but little."
An-Nisâ (4:142)

* Sign: Squandering their mental faculties to use in sin
"They are deaf, dumb, and blind, so they return not (to the Right Path)."
Al-Baqarah 2:18
* Sign: They lay in wait to chastise and defame the believers
"Those (hyprocrites) who wait and watch about you; if you gain a victory from
Allâh, they say: "Were we not with you," but if the disbelievers gain a
success, they say (to them): "Did we not gain mastery over you and did we not
protect you from the believers?" Allâh will judge between you (all) on the Day
of Resurrection. And never will Allâh grant to the disbelievers a way (to
triumph) over the believers." An-Nisâ 4:141

* Sign: Rejection of the Hukm (rulings) of Allah and His Prophet.
"And when it is said to them: "Come to what Allâh has sent down and to the
Messenger (Muhammad SAW)," you (Muhammad SAW) see the hypocrites turn away from
you (Muhammad SAW) with aversion." An-Nisâ 4:61

* Sign: Seeking to rationalize and explain their sinful deeds when they are
confronted with the evilness of their actions. They seek to conceal their evil
intentions by swearing that their sinful deeds were unintentional.
"How then, when a catastrophe befalls them because of what their hands have
sent forth, they come to you swearing by Allâh, "We meant no more than goodwill
and conciliation!" an-Nisâ 4:62

"They have made their oaths a screen (for their evil actions). Thus they hinder
(men) from the Path of Allâh, so they shall have a humiliating torment."
Al-Mujadilah 58:16

* Sign: Focusing on the visible ornaments and beautifications. They are
eloquent speakers who do not act upon their many words. They weave mirages of
sensibility and grandeur.
"And when you look at them, their bodies please you; and when they speak, you
listen to their words. They are as blocks of wood propped up. They think that
every cry is against them. They are the enemies, so beware of them. May Allâh
curse them! How are they denying (or deviating from) the Right Path."
Al-Munafiqûn 63:4

* Sign: They rejoice at the misfortune and sadness of the believers.
"If good befalls you (O Muhammad SAW), it grieves them, but if a calamity
overtakes you, they say: "We took our precaution beforehand," and they turn
away rejoicing." At-Taubah 9:50

* Sign: Seeking to please humanity at the expense of displeasing Allah.
"They (the hypocrites) swear to you (Muslims) that you may be pleased with
them, but if you are pleased with them, certainly Allâh is not pleased with the
people who are Al-Fâsiqûn (rebellious, disobedient to Allâh)." At-Taubah 9:96

* Sign: Mocking and defaming the believers
"Those who defame such of the believers who give charity (in Allâh's Cause)
voluntarily, and those who could not find to give charity (in Allâh's Cause)
except what is available to them, so they mock at them (believers), Allâh will
throw back their mockery on them, and they shall have a painful torment."
At-Taubah 9:79

* Sign: They discourage the believers from fighting the disbelievers. They seek
to cause discord and Fitnah in the ranks of the believers and spread corruption
and mischief throughout the earth. As such Allah ordained upon them that they
not join the believers in the battles (out of their own fears).

preparation for it, but Allâh was averse to their being sent forth, so He made

Saum - Fasting
In the Hadith, great rewards have been mentioned for fasting. The fasting
person has a very high status in the sight of Allah Ta'ala. Rasulullah
(Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: "The person who fasts in the month of
Ramadaan solely for the pleasure of Allah Ta'ala and for gaining. His reward,
all his past minor sins will be forgiven." Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wa
sallam) said: "The smell which emanates from the mouth of a fasting person is
more beloved in the sight of Allah Ta'ala than the fragrance of musk." On the
day of judgement, one would receive great rewards for fasting.
It is related in a Hadith that a table below the Arsh of Allah Ta'ala will be
laid for the fasting persons on the day of judgement: They will sit at this
table and partake of the food while all the other people will still be busy
giving their account of deeds. On seeing them, they will say: "How is it that
these people are eating and drinking while we are still occupied in giving an
account of our deeds?" It will be said to them that they used to fast while you
abstained from fasting. This fasting is also a great pillar of Islam. The
person who does not fast in the month of Ramadaan commits a major sin, and his
Deen shall become weak.
  1. Fasting in the month of Ramadaan is fard on every Muslim who is not a
lunatic nor an immature person (minor). As long as there is no valid excuse, it
is not permissible to abstain from fasting. If a person vows to fast, fasting
becomes fard on him on account of this vow: The qada and kaffarah fasts are
also fard. Apart from this, all other fasts are najl- if a person keeps them he
will be rewarded, and if he does not do so, there will be no sin on him.
However, the fasts of eid ul-fitr, eid ul- ad'haa, and the three days following
eid ul-ad'haa are all haraam.
  2. Once the time of fajr salaat approaches i.e. dawn until the time of
sunset, a person should make the intention of fasting and abstain from all
food, drink, and sexual intercourse. This is known as fasting in the Shariah.
  3. It is not necessary to make a verbal intention. Instead, once a person has
this in his heart that today he is fasting and he does not eat or drink
anything, nor does he indulge in sexual intercourse his fast will be valid. If
a person makes a verbal intention by saying, "O Allah I will fast for Your
pleasure tomorrow" even then there is no harm in this.
  4. A person did not eat nor drink anything the entire day and remained hungry
and thirsty from morning till evening. However, in his heart he did not have
the intention of fasting but merely abstained from food due to a lack of
hunger, or, for some reason or the other he did not get the opportunity of
eating anything – in such a case his fast will not be valid. Had he made the
intention of fasting in his heart, his fast would have become valid.
  5. According to the Shariah, the time of fasting commences from Subah Saadiq.
Therefore, as long as the subah saadiq time does not expire, eating drinking,
etc, is permissible. Some women wake up early and after having a meal, they
make the intention of fasting and sleep away thinking that once the intention
is made, eating and drinking is not permissible. This is a gross error. As long
as the subah saadiq time does not expire, it is permissible to eat and drink.
This is irrespective of whether the intention of fasting has been made or not.

Important MasaailOff Setting Zakaat Ramadaan is the
Month when Muslims look forward to capitalising on the special bounties and
offers that Allah Ta’ala affords to His servants in this auspicious Month.
Every act is multiplied seventy times hence making this Month the most
favourable opportunity to earn maximum reward. One obligation that is
frequently discharged during this Month is Zakaat.

However there is one malpractice that frequently occurs among Muslims when
discharging Zakaat. The technicality arises when a person has a certain debtor
who is hard pressed or has not paid his account for whatever reason. The
creditor takes advantage of this situation and off sets his Zakaat from the
person’s account. This is impermissible and the Zakaat is not discharged.
- Fataawa Raheemiyyah Vol. 2 pg. 12
When Does Sehri StartAnother area of concern is termination of Sehri
time. It has been observed over the years that many unwary Muslims
terminate Sehri only when the Fajr Azaan commences. It must be remembered the
time for Sehri ends at Subha Sadiq and not when the Fajr Azaan commences.
Continuing to eat after Subah Sadiq will render the fast null and void.

It is therefore imperative to take note of this and inform those who may be
ignorant of the masala (ruling).

May Allah Ta’ala guide us through this blessed month.

Two men of Bali (a neighborhood of Qudah) embraced Islam. One of them

entered paradise before the martyr, and he was surprised to see this.
When Talha woke up, he told the Prophet about his dream. The Prophet

1. TODAY'S HADITH
Hazrat Abu Huraira(radhiyallahu anhu) reports that Rasullullah(sallallahu
alaiyhi wassallam) said that: " The wage for every man's deeds is increased (at
least ) ten times; but for fasting; Allah's declaration is: "Fasting is an
exception to this rule. Fasting is only for Me and I will apportion its reward.
It is for Me that my creature gives up food and desires." (Bukhari, Muslim)

2. TODAYS FOCUS SUHOOR(Sehri)
'Suhoor' is the meal one takes in the last hours of the night before the
commencement of a fast. It is a Sunnah to have 'Suhoor'. If someone has no
appetite at that time, it is advisable for him to have something light. Even by
having a few sips of water the sunnah of suhoor can be fulfilled. Although the
'Suhoor' can be had any time after midnight, but it is more advisable to have
it in the last hour of the night immediately before the break of dawn.

The 'Suhoor' can be continued up to the break of dawn. But in order to be on
the safe side, it is advisable to refrain from eating or drinking a few minutes
earlier than the break of dawn.

Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri(radhiyallahu anhu) reported that Rasullullah(sallallahu
alaiyhi wassallam) said that: " Eating at Sehri is a blessing. If nothing else
is available, drink some water. Allah and his angels send blessings to those
who eat Sehri." (Ahmad)

It is described by Hazrat Abu Huraira(radhiyallahu anhu) that
Rasullullah(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) said that: "The best food for Sehri
is date." (Abu Dawud) . In Tibrani, this statement is from Hazrat Saed bin
Yazid(radhiyallahu anhu) in which there is also a prayer for divine blessing.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Harith(radhiyallahu anhu) said that once he went to
Rasullullah(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) when he was eating Sehri. When I met
him, he said : "Allah has given His blessings, to Sehri, so you should never
miss it". (Nasai)

Hazrat Amr bin al Aas(radhiyallahu anhu) reported that Rasullullah(sallallahu
alaiyhi wassallam) has said : "The difference between our fasting and that of
the people of the scriptures is that of Sehri." (Muslim)

Hazrat Anas bin Malik(radhiyallahu anhu) reported that Rasullullah(sallallahu
alaiyhi wassallam) has said : "Do eat Sehri, in which there is blessing".
(Bukhari, Muslim)

Rasullullah(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) called Hazrat Arbaz bin
Sarya(radhiyallahu anhu) to join him in eating Sehri(suhoor) with the words :
"Arbaz, come to the auspicious food". (Abu Dawud)

Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas(radhiyallahu anhu) says that Rasullullah(sallallahu
alaiyhi wassallam) said, "Have some sleep at noon, to facilitate waking up in
the night and eat something at Sehri(suhoor), to gain strength for fasting".

3. Q & A
Question: I am an Asthma patient. Is it permissible for me to use the inhaler
during fasting? The inhaler contains salbutamol (liquid medication). If it is
not permissible, what should I do when I get an asthma attack during fasting?
Answer: Since the inhaler contains a medication (salbutamol), the use of it in
the state of fasting will invalidate the fast. We advise you take medication at
the time of Sehri to avoid an asthma attack. However, should you get the attack
during fasting, if there is no adequate alternative which does not break the
fast, you may use the inhaler and make-up for that fast later (make
Qadhaa).(Mufti Ebrahim Desai)

4. HEALTH
Asthma and Fasting: A medical perspective
Asthma is not a contra-indication to fasting. Long acting preparations eg.
Euphyllin retard, Volmax, Serevent should be used. An acute attack may
necessitate termination of the fast.(Source: IMA)

5. EVENTS IN RAMADHAAN
Amongst the wives of Rasulullah(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam), Sayyidina
Khadija(radhiyallahu anha) departed from this world in the month of Ramadhaan.

6. RAMADHAAN IN GERMANY
Together with believers in Muslim countries throughout the world, Muslims
living in Germany have entered the month of Ramadan. Ramadan in Germany takes
place in a totally different atmosphere than in countries with a Muslim
majority. Public and social life continues with the same speed and the running
of the day does not know any interruptions, like for the Iftar. A difference
also lies in the length of the day in Germany, which is a challenge in the
summer, but is quite short in the winter period. This year the sun rises
roughly at 8 am and sets at 4 pm.

Only those of the estimated 3.5 Million Muslims living in Germany, who live in
one of the Islamic quarters of Berlin or the Ruhr area with a high percentage
of Muslims living there might be reminded of the empty streets of Cairo or

Ramadan - The Month of Love
"those who have faith (i.e. are Muslims) are stronger in their love for Allah."

Concept of Love
The first thing that is needed is to actually conceptualize what love really
is. We all know that love has many manifestations, degrees, and types. The way
a child loves his or her parents is not the same as the way a woman may love
her husband, and likewise, the way a person may love chocolate, per se, is not
the same way a person would love his or her Lord (or at least we hope not).
However, in all of these types of love there is a common and key theme, that of
sacrifice and fulfillment. The more we love something, the more we are willing
to sacrifice for it, and the more we will strive to fulfill the every command
and wish of our beloved.

Indeed, sacrifice and fulfillment are from amongst the essential components
that make up love, along with longing and cherishing. And this is why we should
see that love, along with hope and fear, is a pillar of our worship. Our
worship will not be complete or acceptable until it encompasses the right
amounts of love, hope, and fear.

Association of Love with Ramadan
It is an individual's love for his/her child and family that will make them
wake up in the late hours of the night to prepare a nice meal for suhur (the
pre-dawn meal). In the same vein, it is an individual's love for his community
that will drive him to take time off of work to ensure his fellow Muslims have
sufficient food for iftar (the meal at sunset). And it is our love for Allah,
as Muslims, which drives us to sacrifice the two pinnacles of desire, food and
marital relations, for no other reason than the pleasure of our very Creator.

Our love for Allah (glorified and praised is He) does not stop here but,
rather, merely just begins. One of the key pillars of loving Allah lies in
following the Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him, and an exemplary role model
he is.

Sunnah's to Follow in Ramadan

1. Waking up to have suhûr, even if it is something little. The Messenger of
Allah, peace be upon him, said: "Eat suhûr for in suhûr there is blessing."
[Narrated by al-Bukhârî and by Muslim]

2. Not delaying the iftâr. The Messenger of Allah, upon whom be peace, said:
"The people will remain upon goodness as long as they hasten in breaking their
fasts" [Narrated by al-Bukhârî and by Muslim]

3. Supplicating throughout the day and night, especially during iftâr time. The
Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "Three prayers are not rejected:
the prayer of a father, the prayer of a fasting person, and the prayer of a
traveller." [Narrated by al-Bayhaqi 3/345]

4. Spending the nights in prayer, as well as encouraging the family to do so.
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "Whoever establishes prayers
during the nights of Ramadhân out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah's
rewards, all his past sins will be forgiven." [Narrated by al-Bukhârî]

5. Being generous and feeding the people iftâr. The Messenger of Allah said:
"Whoever gives iftâr to one who is fasting will have a reward like his, without
detracting from the reward of the person fasting." [Narrated by al-Bukhârî and
by Muslim]

6. Staying away from all immoral acts, especially those of the tongue. The
Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: "Fasting is not abstaining from
eating and drinking alone, but it is also abstaining from vain speech and foul
language. If one of you is being cursed or annoyed, he should say: I am
fasting, I am fasting." [Narrated by al-Bukhârî and by Muslim]

7. Performing 'umrah. The Messenger of Allah, upon whom be peace, said:
"Perform 'umrah when Ramadhân comes, for 'umrah in Ramadhân is equal to hajj
(in reward)." [Narrated by al-Bukhârî]

Surah al-Baqarah (The Cow) - Chapter 2: Verses 17-20
Hypocrites
"Their similitude is that of a man who kindled a fire; when it lighted all
around him, Allah took away their light and left them in utter darkness. So
they could not see. Deaf, dumb, and blind, they will not return (to the path).
Or (another similitude) is that of a rain-laden cloud from the sky: in it are
zones of darkness, and thunder and lightning: they press their fingers in their
ears to keep out the stunning thunderclap, the while they are in terror of
death. But Allah is ever round the rejecters of Faith! The lightning all but
snatches away their sight; every time the light (helps) them, they walk
therein, and when the darkness grows on them, they stand still. And if Allah
willed, He could take away their faculty of hearing and seeing; for Allah hath
power over all things."

The first parable means that when a person, Muhammad (Allah's peace be upon
him), spread the light of Truth that discriminated right from wrong and virtue
from vice, those who used their faculties properly began to distinguish between
these things. But the hypocrites, who were blinded by self-interest, could not
see the right path even with the help of this light.

Allah deprives of the sight only he who is not a seeker of truth; who chooses
error for himself instead of guidance, and who shuts his eyes to the truth.
When the hypocrites themselves turned away from the light of truth and chose to
wander only in the darkness of falsehood, Allah also let them go astray. And
thus they become "Deaf" to hearing the Truth, "dumb" to speaking the Truth and
"blind" to seeing the Truth.

In the second parable, by thrusting their fingers into their ears, the
hypcorites delude themselves for a while that they have escaped destruction.
But they cannot, in fact, save themselves because Allah, with all His powers,
is encircling them on all sides. The first parable depicts those hypocrites
who in their inmost hearts did not believe in Islam at all, but had become
'Muslims' for the sake of self-interest or expediency. The second parable gives
a description of those hypocrites who were suffering from doubt, suspicion and
lack of faith. Though they were not wholly unbelievers, they practiced Islam
only to the extent, which may not involve them in trouble.

In this parable rainfall stands for Islam which came as a blessing to humanity;
pitch darkness, thunder and lightning stand for the impending obstacles, the
threatening dangers and the glaring difficulties which were being experienced
on account of the strong resistance from the opponents of Islam. When the
situation eased a little, they began to move onward on the path of Islam, but
when the clouds of difficulties began to appear, or when they were given such
commands as were against their self-interest or their superstitious beliefs and
prejudices, they again stood still in sheer perplexity.

Finally, it is important that we realize that Allah could, if He so willed,
totally deprive these hypocrites also, of the power to see the Truth just as He
deprived the hypocrites described in the first parable. But Allah does not do
so because it is His will to give them respite to see the Truth and hear the
Truth to the extent they want to see and hear it. That is why He left them with
only as much power as they made use of in seeing and hearing the Truth.

Sports in Islam
Features of sports in Islam are many. In fact, many Islamic obligations include
physical activities in addition to spiritual activities and ways of
straightening behaviour. Prayer, for example, is a spiritual purification as
well as motions for the body. Hajj also involves physical effort in its various
rituals. So do visiting fellow Muslims and the sick, and walking to mosques.
All kinds of social activities in Islam can be considered to be a physical
exercise of the body and a way to strengthen it, as long as these activities
are done moderately.

Among the sports that the Prophet, peace be upon him, played are the following:

1. Running. It was a form of training for traveling, jihad, seeking provision,
etc. It was reported by Ahmad ibn Hanbal that the Prophet raced Aishah and she
outran him. Then they had another race where he outran her, whereupon he said,
"This time makes up for the other."

2. Horsemanship and horse racing. In Sahih Muslim it is reported that Allah's
Messenger said, "Ride horses, for they are the le

99 Names of Allah: AHKAM AL-HAKIMEEN

And (all) the Most Beautiful Names belong to Allâh, so call on Him by
them. 7:180

AHKAM AL-HAKIMEEN

The Most Just Judge

Is Allah not the Most Just Judge ? ( Surat at-Tin, 95:8)

Allah passes judgment on each matter and concludes them. All events
evolve and develop upon His command and wish. Each of His judgments
contains many hidden divine purposes. However, most people do not really
understand His commands, for, given their limited intelligence, their
ability to do so is also limited. Furthermore, Allah is infinitely wise,
exalted above time and space, and the One Who created and bound humanity
to these concepts. A person can never know what will happen the next day
or even in an hour. When Allah gives a command, however, He has total
knowledge of all of its consequences, regardless of time or place.
Consequently, Allah creates everything in compliance with His plan and
for a divine purpose.

But unbelievers can never understand Allah's purposes, for they base
their worldview on certain causes and then think that everything evolves
randomly and coincidentally. Therefore, they fail to understand that
Allah controls everything. Believers, however, strive to grasp the
divine purposes in Allah's judgments and comprehend that He gives the
best judgments. In the Qur'an, Allah commands the following:

And follow the inspiration sent unto you, and be patient till Allâh
gives judgement. And He is the Best of judges. (Surah Yunus, 10:109)

And Nûh (Noah) called upon his Lord and said, "O my Lord! Verily, my
son is of my family! And certainly, Your Promise is true, and You are
the Most Just of the judges." (Surah Hud, 11:45)

"…And whoever fears Allaah – He will make for him a way out
– And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And
whoever relies upon Allaah – then He is sufficient for him. Indeed
Allaah will accomplish His purpose. Allaah has already set for
everything a [decreed] extent." [At-Talaaq: 2-3]

*We Need this Love *

SO many people have tried to define love. Often it means different things to
different people.

Everyone admits they need it.

It seems to be an emotion; a feeling of bonding between people. But does it
occur in a snap?

There are certain ingredients which it contains; upon which it is built.
Without them, love will not be found. People need to be respected, listened
to, forgiven, taught and their needs must be met. If such aspects are missed
love does not emerge.

How often people look at their spouse and think that at that moment, they
really hate them. Then at a future time see another aspect of their
personality and feel a deep loving feeling towards them. No one loves
somebody all the time. Human beings are very complicated and can experience
so many emotions at the same time. There are also many sides to our
personalities.

Yet relationships are often based on this abstract emotion called 'love' and
when it disappears the relationship often dissolves.

Perhaps if we wait a little and be patient we will see another side of the
person which is more acceptable and to our liking.

We can learn to 'love' that part of the person and try to ignore the other
parts.

People are not disposable.

Remember that love of Allah is the type of love you should be seeking all
your life. This love will make you believe that you have to spend your short
life serving Him, helping people, feeding the needy, giving regular charity
to those who need it...etc. This love is the real love that gives meaning to
our life.

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] The Evils of Envy

*The Evils of Envy *

The topic of envy is a very important one. It is a serious problem that all
of us need to cope with. Envy spreads through society like a frightful
illness and it is an illness that demands treatment.

Envy is indeed a serious, sometimes fatal illness. It is an ignoble
character trait that tears rifts between people, communities, and even
nations. A community that is blackened by this loathsome quality is one
wherein cooperation and love become virtually unknown. Enmity, hatred, and
violence become the order of the day.

Envy occurs when we see some blessing in the hands of another and desire for
that blessing to be lost to that person. Muslim scholars have defined this
feeling in many ways, but all of their definitions contain this essential
meaning - to wish for someone to lose something good that he or she has been
blessed with.

Al-Nawawi describes envy in the following way: Envy is to desire for someone
who enjoys a blessing to become bereft of it, regardless of whether that
blessing is of a religious or worldly nature.

Al-Ghazali writes: As far as envy is concerned, Islamic scholars define it
as the hatred of a blessing and the love that the one so blessed by it will
become bereft of it.

Envy is something quite prevalent in the world. This is why the Qur'an
speaks about it often. Allah says: "Do they envy the people on account of
what Allah has given them of His grace?" *[ Surah Al-Nisa' : 54]*

We must also not forget the famous story of Joseph (peace be upon him) and
his brothers who envied his father's love for him so much that they cast him
into a well.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) warned against the ill consequences of envy
upon the envier, saying: "Beware of envy, for indeed envy consumes one's
good deeds like fire consumes wood." *[ Sunan Abi Dawud (4903)]*

The Prophet (peace be upon him) warned so sternly against envy because of
how dangerous and ruinous it is. It can bring us to destruction in both our
worldly and spiritual lives.

He also said: "Do not revile nor envy one another. Do not turn away from one
another and do not sever ties. Be devotees of Allah and brothers to one
another. It is not permissible for a Muslims to shun his brother for more
than three days." *[ Sahîh al-Bukhari (6065) and Sahih Muslim (2559)] *

**

Envy is indeed a great and deadly evil. When it strikes, it inevitably
leaves destruction in its wake.

The month of Ramadan Kareem is very dear to Allah. It is the most august of
all months, pure, generous and merciful. Do not let its nights go waste in
slumber, its days in careless omission or loss of remembrance of Allah.

  Allah's Name r Greatest

 33 Blessings of Fasting !
The benefits of the Ramadhan month of fasting are too many to be
counted. If one does recognize them and realize their importance, he wishes to
have the month of Ramadhan to be throughout the whole year.
These blessings are given by Allah to the fasting Muslims, who are to fast
with full faith and expectation.
These blessings and benefits of the month of fasting during Ramadhan have
been grouped and summarized into different categories. They are summarized here
without commentary. It should be remembered that all of these blessings were
taken directly from Holy Quran and Hadith.
The following is a partial list for the blessings and benefits of the month
of fasting during Ramadhan:
 01. Taqwa:
   Fearing Allah (SWT)
Practicing the Revelations of Allah (SWT)
Accepting the little things that one has achieved
Preparing for departure from this world to the Hereafter
   Self-discipline
   Self-control
   Self-restraint
   Self-education
   Self-evaluation
By accepting these criteria and by practicing them, the Muslim will achieve
the concept of Taqwa in his private and public life.
02. Protection:
   Avoiding Immorality
   Avoiding anger/outcry/uproar
   Avoiding stupidity
   Avoiding all makrooh/mashbooh/haram
By achieving these good manners, a Muslim will come out of fasting a better
human being in the society.
03. Revelation of Holy Quran: The Holy Quran was revealed during the month of
Ramadhan. The Holy Quran is meant to be:
   A Guidance to mankind
A Manifestation of right from wrong
A Summation and culmination of all previous revelations
   A Glad-tiding to the believers
   A Healer
   A Mercy
04. Doors of heaven are open 05. Doors of hell are closed
  06. Devils are chained down
  07. Fasting with Iman (faith) and expectation: Such type of intention leads
to forgiveness by Allah (SWT) to the individual's sins.
  08. Door of Rayyan: There is in Paradise a door called Al-Rayyan. It is for
the fasting Muslims. Only those who fasted the month of Ramadhan are the ones
to enjoy the bliss of Paradise inside that area.
09. Rejoices: There are two types of rejoices for the Muslims who fast. These
are:
   When breaking fast
When meeting Allah (SWT) on the day of Judgment
10. Mouth Smell: The smell of the mouth of the fasting Muslim will be better
than the smell of musk during the day of Judgement. (Bad Breath) 11.
Glad-Tidings: These glad-tidings are given to the well-wishers while the
ill-wishers are to be stopped during fasting.
  12. Ramadhan -to- Ramadhan: Whoever fasts two consecutive months of Ramadhan
with good intention will receive forgiveness for the mistakes committed
throughout the year.
  13. Multiplication of Rewards: Doing good = 10x, 70x, 700x or more during the
month of Ramadhan.
  14. Feeding Others: Whoever invites others to break the fast, and whoever
takes care of the hungry, needy, during the last ten days of Ramadhan will
receive equal rewards to the fasting person(s).
  15. Blessing of Iftar: Dua is accepted by ALLAH (SWT) at Iftar time.
16. Blessings of Sahoor (The late night meal): This meal time gives the

   Dua of Fajr

intention will receive forgiveness of his past mistakes. 18. Shafa'at

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] SECOND DAY OF TARAVEEH - Glimpses of Quran

2007-09-17 Thread Mahaboob Shariff
Second Day of TARAVEEH

In the first section and the first verse the comprehensive picture of
righteousness is presented, that explains that turning towards east or west
does not amount to righteousness but the righteousness is in fact, is to
believe in ALLAH the ONE WHO has no partner, to believe in the hereafter, the
angels, the heavenly books revealed from ALLAH, and to believe in the Prophets
and spending your wealth for the sake of ALLAH, on your relatives, orphans,
needy and the travelers, those who ask for help, those burdened with debts and
to relieve the captives on ransom. Establishing salaat, paying zakaat
fulfilling the promises is also righteousness. Whoever has these virtues are
true in their belief and those are really virtuous. In this section rules
relating to the retaliation (qisas) and the details of making a will are
explained.
In the second section it is said that fasting is made obligatory upon the
Muslims and details of the revelation of the Quraan and the rules relating to
fasting and the ethics of Ithikaf are explained and misappropriating other's
wealth and taking bribe is forbidden.

The third section explains about the lunar months, sighting of the moon, and
reformations of some of the customs and traditions of earlier times is made.
Jihad and fighting in the way of ALLAH are ordained and the rules relating to
Hajj, and Umrah are explained.

In the fourth section the months of Hajj and other rules relating to Hajj and
exhortation for the remembrance of ALLAH and the kinds of people who make
supplications (duas) are explained. Entering the fold of Islam completely is
insisted upon and being cautious about the Shaitaan is emphasized.
In the fifth section the irreligious behaviour of Jews, their ungratefulness
towards the blessings and favours from ALLAH, punishments meted out to them to
tests are explained and also about the spending of wealth and the obligation of
Jihad and fighting for the cause of ALLAH is discussed.
In the sixth section the sacred months are mentioned and the prohibition of
fighting in these months, the punishments for the apostates, (those who revert
back to their earlier religion known as Irtidad) and the merits of migration
(Hijrah) and Jihad are explained. Prohibition of wine and gambling, behaving
nicely with orphans, prohibition of establishing marital relationship with
idolaters is discussed.
In the seventh section, it is ordained not to cohabit with the wives during the
period of menstruation, husband and wife relationships, not to swear frequently
for small things, the problem of swearing not to cohabit with wives, the rules
relating to the divorced women, and the period of Iddat are explained.
In the eighth section, again the rules of divorce (talaaq), the rules of Khulaa
and other details, prohibition of causing hardships, inconveniences and
problems to the divorced women are discussed.
The ninth section calls upon not preventing the divorced women from marrying
after the Iddat period is completed, the rules relating to fostering of the
children in cases of divorce, rules relating to the women after the death of
their husband, the prohibition of the Nikaah of the women during the Iddat
period are explained.
In the tenth section the rules relating to the Mahr and maintenance of the
divorced are explained, emphases on the regular performance of salaat and about
the rules relating to divorced women are mentioned.
In the eleventh section there is mention of an event from the history of Banu
Israel from which one gets guidance with regard to migration. Exhortation on
sacrificing one's life and wealth for the sake of ALLAH and there is a mention
about the king Talut.

In the twelfth section the history of Talut and Jalut is mentioned, and it is
