The file https://issues.apache.org/ooo/attachment.cgi?id=79599 from bug 121058 opens as good as it opens in OOo3.4.1 in about 90 seconds, but the reaction on a single click increases from about 60 seconds in OOo3.4.1 to 3 minutes. The file attached here opens in 15 seconds and reacts immediately on single click in both cases. The file http://people.apache.org/~regina/Bug_122822_and_121058_XYChart_SinCosTan.ods opens in 90 seconds and reacts very very slow on single click in both cases. The file http://people.apache.org/~regina/Bug_122822_and_121058_CloudLarge_6Values.ods crashes in both cases after about 45 seconds, in r1512966 with bad allocation error message. I suggest, that the changes from bug 121058 are reverted for AOO4.0.1 and nothing else. There is no real regression compared to OOo3.4.1. For AOO4.1 the reason for the bad performance and for the crash should be found and fixed. And if that is not possible, a reduction of points should be done, but with a UI so that the user can set the threshold. My debug build crashes already with fewer data points. Also, I use Microsoft Word at work and use similar documents and sort them in the same way. With Word I never have had this problem. There might of course be workflows that achieve the desired outcomes but that avoid the exact circumstances that cause the bad effect (which happens acutely often in the context of the original document). But that could involve more work than even the extra steps of scrolling or pressing a distant button twice. Some strings are copied and pasted to save time because a single string could involve multiple typefaces and formats. It's also typical to copy a string and paste it in a new place, not for its character order but for some or all of the characters it consists of that would otherwise require a lot of mouse actions or a lot more keyboard strokes to get on-the-fly (the way they were initially gotten). However this only happens after I make any changes to the file. If I open the file and scroll up/down, no prob. as soon as I make a change then the scroll garbles the screen. It adds horizontal lines about a few pixels thick and I cant see maybe 4 to 10 rows at random. Also minimizing and maximizing the screen also fixes. I had a spreadsheet file I was working on and had saved two new lines of data in it a few days ago. I did a series of copy an paste functions from the spreadsheet to a web page. When it asked if I wanted to save changes when I exited the program, I clicked No because I had not added anything that I wished to save, only copied and pasted data out of it.
