[JAWS-Users] Re: Reoccuring Error Message

2007-01-04 Thread Walt Smith

Well, for one thing, it works okay for many people. The trouble is that
while it may work just fine for you, it may break someone else's files and
as far as I know, they haven't figured out exactly what specific factors
cause the damage. It may be the size of the file; it may be the length of a
given line in one of the files; it may be the characters contained in a
given line. Personally, I think that everybody who, like Donny, has ever had
a problem that they can be absolutely sure is due to the Merge utility
should let FS know about it because until they're convinced that there's
still a problem, they're not going to put much effort into tracking it down
and fixing it. Also, they may need specific files to test with if they can't
reproduce breakage in-house with their own files.

Well, not quite so fast there, lady! You can't "just copy" script files,
for example. I'll respond to Donny's specific question in another message.

jaws it's really easy and the copying thingy works like you normally do to

Kate,
Try putting the cd in the drive and holding down the left shift key.
This will prevent the cd from automatically starting.
After it quits spinning, let up the shift key and then go to, my computer
and then highlight the CD drive, but don't press enter.
Now press your applications key and arrow down to, open and press enter.
Now you should be able to navigate the cd and find the file you are looking

[JAWS-Users] Ode To Dave

2007-01-04 Thread Donnie Parrett

It was oh so many years ago,
Probably in the days of a cave.
A woman gave birth to a little boy,
And his Father called him Dave.

He grew from a baby,
And became a boy.
And to everyone around,
He brought much joy.

And then from a boy,
He grew on some more.
And thanks to his faithfullness,
Our talents can soar.

He's the moderator,
On many a list.
And he rules them all,
With an iron like fist.

I am so happy,
And I'd just like to say.
To Mr. David Ferrin,
Have a Happy Birthday!

[JAWS-Users] Copying JAWS Files

2007-01-04 Thread Donnie Parrett

Hey Walt,

Could you please let me know how to copy and transfer my JAWS settings from 7.0
to 7.1? I need to
know how to find the changes that I made in 7.0 so I can transfer all of those
changes to 7.1. I
guess I could just go ahead and use the Merge feature...but, you know how that
goes. Ha ha. Thanks
again for all of your help.

See ya,
Scooter

I'm on the hunt for a reasonably accessible programme for financial
tracking. I've toed with Microsoft Money and though I like its many
features, there are currently no scripts for the programme and its
rather inaccessible even with using the jaws cursor. On the other
hand, money talks is designed specifically for the needs of the blind,

I also have access to quicken and I have no idea how the 2003 scripts

Any thoughts or comments on this software would be much appreciated.

[JAWS-Users] Re: a pach for sb audigy cards

2007-01-04 Thread Sarah

that update utility at the creative website is not accessible by any means!
youhave to turn off the vertual pc curser to get things to work and even
then it won't read the text so you can know what you're doing!

Sarah -

Mine doesn't do it, either, but if you don't have the latest sound
card
drivers, you can get them from the Creative Labs web site. They even
have a
nice automatic tool that checks your system, identifies the card, and
installs the latest drivers.

However, before you go there, check out:

2007-01-04 Thread Walt Smith

Sarah -

Mine doesn't do it, either, but if you don't have the latest sound card
drivers, you can get them from the Creative Labs web site. They even have a
nice automatic tool that checks your system, identifies the card, and
installs the latest drivers.

However, before you go there, check out:

[JAWS-Users] placing music on your computer

2007-01-04 Thread David Ferrin

This is a little out of the ordinary for this list but since a couple of
people have sent it to me and it does include Nero software in the package
I'm letting the list know about it. If any of you have further questions
please refer to the manufacturer of the product.

David Ferrin
4 your info
Here is a piece of hardware that will facilitate the transfer of
your records to Cd eliminating all scratches and rumbles Lately, companies
such as California's ADS Tech have offered products that simply plug into a
PC or Mac's USB ports and handle both the music connections and the software
needed to get the job done simply.

ADS InstantMusic costs $50 and consists of a white plastic box the size of a
large pack of Philadelphia brand cream cheese. It has ordinary red and white
stereo audio-in/out openings in the back and handles the transfer from one's
analog music player to the computer by way of the USB port instead of
messing around with the sound card and its settings.

The included Nero recording software handles the job from start to finish.

It includes routines to automatically clip each song into a separate file
and separate programs for trimming tracks and tweaking sound quality by
removing hiss, click and rumble sounds.

Finally, the software converts the music into any of the major computer
formats including MP3, Microsoft's WMA audio files, Apple iPod's AAC format
and a few others.

I fervently hope that knowing about devices such as InstantMusic will point
readers the way to a turnkey home audio studio -- no matter how they view
their own technical knacks.

I'm on the hunt for a reasonably accessible programme for financial

inaccessible even with using the jaws cursor. On the other hand, money

I also have access to quicken and I have no idea how the 2003 scripts will

Okay, that's almost certainly your problem. As I've said before, never,
never, never run JAWS Merge. It causes more problems than it saves. What you
should do is copy your .jdf files (using CTRL+C) directly from the 7.0 user
files folder to the 7.10 user files folder and let it go at that.

You can test out how JAWS is working without your merged files by doing the
following:

1. Unload JAWS using INSERT+F4.
2. Press Windows Key+R.
3. Type jaws71 /default and press ENTER.

Note that in the above, there is no space between jaws and 71, but there is
between jaws71 and the forward slash.

This should start JAWS with all of its normal defaults in place; that is, it
bypasses any files in your user files folder. See if the problem occurs
under these circumstances and if it doesn't, erase everything that's in your
7.10 user files folder and start over by copying only the .jdf files from
the 7.0 user files folder.

I've used the real speak voices and have mixed opinions on them. I guess
they are okay but don't think they are that much better than the standard

one
when you first put the CD in to install and it reads the first screen.
That
is a very clear and nice voice

Before purchasing RealSpeak from this site, check with FS to find out
whether or not the voices will work with JAWS before investing your
money.

I
don't know one way or the other whether RealSpeak that's not obtained
through FS will function with JAWS 8.0, so be sure before commiting
yourself.

Visit
http://www.nextup.com/scansoft.html
- "sample and purchase" page. You can there download short demo samples.
However, you would need to purchase one of their products or purchase
JAWS8
to be able to use the voices.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Financial Software

2007-01-04 Thread David Ferrin

Officially JAWS does not offer support for Quicken after 2003. This is sort
of sad but unfortunately true at this time.

I believe that tomorrow is another day, and I'll probably screw that one up
too.

I wrote to the list earlier, but I don't think it went through.
I'm on the hunt for a reasonably accessible programme for financial
tracking. I've toed with Microsoft Money and though I like its many
features, there are currently no scripts for the programme and its rather
inaccessible even with using the jaws cursor. On the other hand, money
talks is designed specifically for the needs of the blind, but its rather
primitive.
I also have access to quicken and I have no idea how the 2003 scripts will
react to a more current version.
Any thoughts or comments on this software would be much appreciated.
Have a great day.

That's a .wav file, so there's no way it could be used. That is, it's not a
synthesized voice. I'll pass your nice comments on to the guy whose voice it
is, though, since he's a good friend of mine.

That voice is a very good voice. I have wondered why they do not use it.

David & all,

I've used the real speak voices and have mixed opinions on them. I guess
they are okay but don't think they are that much better than the standard
voice. What would be nice is if they could do a quality voice like the one
when you first put the CD in to install and it reads the first screen. That
is a very clear and nice voice

thanks
Al
