I found an old post on another list from Debbie in which she gave instructions for doing it in 7.1, but her instructions don't seem to match in 7.0: Don't perform these steps unless you are comfortable making script changes. In OE, press insert 0 (on the number row) to open the OE scripts file. You need to comment out two lines in the scripts. Press control L (or go to the script menu, script list) and press D and find the script DeleteMessage and enter. Arrow down in the script to the line that says the following and put a semicolon in front of it like this: ;SayFormattedMessage (ot_status, msg_DeleteMessage_L, msg_DeleteMessage_S) Now press control L again and this time press J and then find the script JAWSDelete and enter. You will find the same line as above in that script also. Put a semicolon in front of the line in this script too. Then press control S to compile, alt f4 to leave script manager. I may need more caffeine but the line in the jaws delete script does not seem to be the same as the delete message script. I've looked at the jaws-users home page under tips and tricks and also the scripts link and didn't seem anything related to the script. The Helpful Hint on the JFWlite page seems to be for earlier versions of JAWS. Are the instructions for silencing the pesky thing the same for 7.0 as for 7.1 or am I not seeing straight? Yes at the present time, only because I've not created agenda 2008 as of today. I didn't figure requests for that file wouldn't be coming across my desk quite so soon. [JAWS-Users] Re: help me with downloads
As I said on another list: If you have anti-spyware programs, use them and let them delete whatever they find. Delete temporary Internet files; delete temp files, do a disk cleanup. Have you installed another ftp client? (Occasionally, they can break the file-download of Internet Explorer.) Have you got RealPlayer? See if that works. Uploading/downloding of email has nothing to do with this functionality. I've had this problem on a previous computer, and, according to Microsoft, it's because of a third-party application (for which they are not responsible, as they say), and associated spyware. In the old days, Go!zilla did create such problems with Internet Explorer. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/ and in the edit field, type in your search terms. You will then get a list of articles with suggested remedies. - Original Message - From: Terry Olandese To: jaws-users-list@googlegroups.com Sent: Wednesday, January 24, 2007 11:53 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Re: help me with downloads thanks, but nothing works that I know of. [JAWS-Users] Re: Office 2007 and Jaws7
I am using jaws 8, demo. XP. Microsoft word 2003. And service pack two am I going to have any trouble? - Original Message - From: Victor Gouveia To: jaws-users-list@googlegroups.com Sent: Tuesday, January 23, 2007 10:04 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Office 2007 and Jaws7 Hi All, I recently installed Office 2007 and have found it will take a very long time to learn this one. The interface is similar to Internet Explorer 7, utilizing tabs and the like to access menu settings and the usual bad boys, such as options and formatting, as well as other well known things like page setup aren't where they were before. In any case, learning the new keystrokes will take a very long learning curve. That, however, is not what I'm writing about today. What has happened is this... Once I installed the applications, I loaded Word 2007 and proceeded to look around at some of the features and settings and stuff. As you can imagine, I did an upgrade, so the settings were just used from the previous version of Word I had installed. Similar to the merge utility with Jaws, except this one was perfect in that it knew exactly how to set up the view and the options, and especially, it new that I wanted sounds turned on. My problem is the view of the document, as read by Jaws. For example, I open up a template I use called the fax cover page from Word. To be exact, it is called the professional fax cover page. One thing it utilizes that I like and helps me fill out the blanks are tables. The way I used to get around these tables was to hold down the control key, then tapping the down or up arrow to move through the table horizontally, either right or left, respectively. This is no longer the case. Now, when I hold down the control key and tap the up or down arrow, it moves and reads one row at a time, instead of one cell at a time. Granted, it still reads information from the left column on the row to the right, however, I no longer do it one cell at a time, as I said, it now flows one row at a time. This is very difficult as sometimes I use the same cover page, and just change the information to suit the person I'm sending it to. Suffice it to say, I can't seem to find how I can fix this. I don't even think Freedom Scientific used the control key as a navigation key to help with the arrow keys. All I've ever seen talked about are the insert or caps lock key to move through a document, but I digress. I am currently using Jaws 7.0, with XP home, as well as Office 2007 Enterprise edition. Does anyone have any ideas. I did try going to Freedom Scientifics web site to see if they had any technical bulletins in terms of proper view settings to use that would help to use Jaws more effectively, or even just some accessibility documentation between these two applications, but to no avail, and before anyone starts talking to me about FS not offering any support for Jaws 7 and Office 2007, don't even think about it. I know people who are still using 5.1 and even 4.51 with office 2003, so FS should have seen this coming, if not for their sake, then for their customer's. Not everyone can afford the latest software all at the same time, sometimes people have to prioritize and one takes precedence over the other. In any case, does anyone have any ideas if this is even fixable or not? Another example I can give you is this other document I have that came with my MP3 player. It is the manual, and it seems like Jaws is reading both sides of the book at once. For example, it will read the first line on page one, then move to the first line on page 2, kind of like the two pages are facing each other, but when I go to check out Words view settings, the page is laid out as normal. Maybe someone can help me? [JAWS-Users] Re: help me with downloads
The ultimate solution, short of a drive reformat, which some people with this problem have been driven to in the past, is to delette the index.dat file in a locale like: c:\Windows\temp\Temporary Internet Files\content.ie5 (This has to be done carefully!) It is a last resort. If you were to delete the wrong index.dat file... you would have a bit of a mess left over. The good news, however, is that, correct index.dat file deleted, this particular index.dat is re-created the next time you open Internet Explorer (which should have been closed, of course, since .dat files are files normally in use.) Hi Terry, Your description of the problem is rather vague. Can you give us some more information, that might help us better troubleshoot the problem? Try answering these questions: 1. What internet browser are you using? 2. When did this problem begin? 3. Were you able to download from the internet before? 4. Have you recently installed any Windows updates? 5. Have you Have you recently re-configured, or installed internet security software? 6. Are you getting any type of error messages? 7. Do you have a firewall installed and running? If you can give us some answers to these questions, we'll have more information to work with. Something about your system has had to change to cause this problem. [JAWS-Users] Re: help me with downloads
When did all of this start? Was it in the last couple of days? Ricque has put forward good questions. A System Restore might, or might not, cure the problem. However, if all it is is a firewall recently installed... that's different, indeed, and should be easy to fix. System Restore? Start Menu; Programs; Accessories submenu, System Tools submenu; hit s until System Restore is highlighted. Restore my computer to an earlier time radiobutton checked, 1 of 3, is the commonest option. Alt+n or tab to and press enter on next. You then get a list of previous restore points set out in a calendar. Tab through, and Hit enter on shows the previous day button, the number of times for the number of days you want to go back. then select a Restore Point for that day, which will be a time, with the spacebar or left-mouse button. Then repeat the Next button manoeuvre you did before. Let the computer do its thing for a while, and it will restart. make sure all other programs are closed during the performance. - Original Message - From: Terry Olandese To: jaws-users-list@googlegroups.com Sent: Thursday, January 25, 2007 1:07 AM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Re: help me with downloads I have one more quick question if you don't mind. I've cleared cookies, I got rid of the timporary files, and tried to run a virus scan. I am using jaws 7.1, xp pro, and I have nod 32. Thanks for any help. For most, this feature remains unused (or rarely used). Why is that? Well, First off nearly all of the Run Commands Correspond to a particular Control Panel Item or a Utility, Tool or Task that can be accessed through W*NDOW$. There are, however, tools and utilities that I bet you never knew you had that can be accessed through the Run feature. The main reason most people don't use the Run feature is because they don't know the Commands. So, to solve that problem, I decided to put together the following listing, which lists 101 Run Commands and what they correspond too... To access Run Command ; (Taskbar) Start, Run.
