Go into my computer and enter on the C: drive. hit w for windows and enter. Hit t until you get to the TMP and Temp folder. Went you enter on either folder temp or temp you can highlight all the files in the list view and delete everything there. If you have a index.dat file highlight everything except that file. For the only way you can delete the index.dat file is to set up another admin user delete it in XP or go to dos in 98c and delete the index.dat file from there by using the command deltree at the C:\windows prompt. The command is in 98C is deltree cookies, Deltree tmp, Deltree tempor~1, and deltree history. Plus there may be others scattered around in various applications. But again, unless you know what you are deleting, I don't advise it. The Internet temp files are located in, c:\documents and settings\(your profile name)\local settings\temporary Internet files. This is where your temp files and cookies are stored. Most of these files provide faster loading of visited web pages. I don't see that it affects the performance of your PC by removing them. Compacting Outlook Express - WorldStart Computer Tips and Computer Help WorldStart.Com Computer Tips & Help Tip #3319 - Compacting Outlook Express Q: I use Outlook Express and an annoying little thing started happening recently. Every time I close OE down, a message pops up that says "To free up disk space, Outlook Express can compact your messages. This may take up to a few minutes." What does this mean exactly and should I do it or not? Please help! A: This is an excellent question. I too use Outlook Express here at the office and this same thing happened to me awhile back as well. I really didn't know why it just suddenly started happening and to be honest with you, for quite some time, I just hit Cancel on the pop up message. I just wanted to get rid of it. Well, come to find out, I should have listened to the message. Let me explain. We all delete e-mails from our Inbox on a daily basis, don't we? Then most of us probably go on to delete those e-mails out of the Deleted Items folder as well. That way, they'll all be gone for good, right? Well, not exactly. Outlook Express works in the same way as your hard drive when you're trying to delete something from your regular system. Even though we think we've deleted the information completely, it sticks around until it is covered up with something else. So, when you delete the e-mails from your Deleted Items folder, they actually go to the Outlook Express store folder (the .dbx folder) and even though you can't see them, they are still there, taking up space. This is when compacting steps in. When you see the compact message, you may think it's just going to cut down your e-mails in size a little, but do nothing else. Well, in all actuality, when you compact, the e-mails that are now in your store folder are removed. This then allows for extra e-mail storage space and more than likely, faster e-mail service in the way OE opens, closes and runs in general. Now, Outlook Express will automatically compact your messages for you after the 100th time of opening and closing the program. As you can see from the above information, it is essential that you let the compact process go, in order to keep your e-mail program working correctly. So, when the compacting starts, don't interrupt it. Just let it finish. It should only take a few minutes and then your Outlook Express will be up and running just like new. Okay, so what if you get the message when you're trying to shut your computer down for the day? It's not really in your best interest to wait around for it to complete, so what else can you do? Well, you can do the compacting at any time and when it's best for you. You may want to do it on a lunch break or when you're not going to be using your computer for awhile. To get started, go to File and choose Work Offline. This will ensure that no new messages come through while the compact is running. You should also turn off any other programs you have going, but you can keep your firewall and antivirus software on. Now, you should also back up your e-mail before you begin this process, just in case you happen to lose any important e-mails. This is up to you, but read here for a quick way to get the backup done. Once you're done with the backup, go to File, Folder and choose Compact All Folders. Again, once that starts, don't mess with it until it's done. Just let it run and like I said before, it should only take a few minutes. Now, there might be some times when you just want to compact one folder at a time. That's no problem either. To do that, select the folder you want to compact (Inbox, Outbox, etc.) by just clicking and highlighting it in the left side panel on the main page of your Outlook Express. Next, go to File, Folder and select Compact. That will then compact only that one single folder. This should be done if you make big changes to a particular folder. Also, just in case you were wondering; when you do a complete compact on all of your folders, Outlook Express starts with all of your e-mail and news folders and it finishes up with the store .dbx folder, which is where all your deleted e-mails sit. On a final note, you should make it a monthly routine to compact all of your folders, because it really will help with your e-mail's speed and performance and you can't beat that! ~ Erin (Copyright 2004 WorldStart, Inc) - Original Message - From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, April 13, 2007 12:23 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Re: o e mystry question! > > Hi,, > When you delete a mesage from the deleted items folder, it is deleted > perminantly. > > Jeff > - Original Message - > From: Cathy Boynton <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Date: Friday, April 13, 2007 12:06 pm > Subject: [JAWS-Users] o e mystry question! > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > > >I'm a bit curious here on when we delete all emails from the > > deleted > > folder are they gone from computer completely or are they > > somewhere in the > > comput

[JAWS-Users] Re: Strange Noises and Sound Cards
It is easy once some one shows you how. Or tells you how. First get a couple cans of compress air at your local computer store. I got mine at Best buy the last time. First I usually take a sweeper and use the fine brush attachment and run it over the interior of the computer after removing the cover. Than take off the shroud that cover the processor. It is important when blowing out this area, you hold the fans so they don't move and blow the air in spurts. If this isn't done, I been told one could burn out the fan bearing. Mine has three fans. Two facing the back of the computer case and one facing the top of the case. Hope this helps. - Original Message - From: The SHINING-STAR To: jaws-users-list@googlegroups.com Sent: Friday, December 29, 2006 11:09 AM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Re: Strange Noises and Sound Cards how do you clean the system, or should someone sighted do it for you! --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ Visit the JAWS Users List home page at: http://www.jaws-users.com Address for the list archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/jaws-users-list%40googlegroups.com/ Address to contact the management team: [EMAIL PROTECTED] You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "JAWS Users List" group. I would suggest a good cleaning. It sounds as there is a lot of dust inside and the fans aren't cooling the system. RJ - Original Message - From: "Marsha" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Friday, December 29, 2006 6:44 AM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Strange Noises and Sound Cards Hi As I have posted before, this crazy computer crashes every so often, definitely not on a predictable basis. When it does this there are some awful sounds that come out of the speakers. When it crashes, the error message says that Windows has shut down to prevent damage to system. Dell has no idea what the problem could be. They want to reinstall Windows. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I thought it might be a Jaws issue, so I talked to Freedom Scientific yesterday. The tech was sure it was the sound card. When I talked to Dell, they said they would replace the sound card (aparently to appease me). Sometimes before the crash, the computer speakers start making strange noises, such as a 2 second Donald Duck episode, or just strange random noises. Does anyone have any ideas? BTW, I thought if a tech person saw the error message which comes up after the crash, they would have a pretty good idea what the problem was. If this isn't the case, how do these error messages help? Please, any help would be appreciated. [JAWS-Users] Re: jaws keeps closing
There are two ways to get to the tmp folder. One is to use win explorer or my computer. Go to the drive that holds your files. It is usually Drive C:. Open it and hit w for the window folder and open it. Hit the letter t until you get to the T-M-P folder and hit enter and delete everything in there by selecting all the file and hitting the delete key. Do the same with the T-E-M-P folder and than the cookie folder and than on to the history folder. Some don't like deleting the cookie folder, so that is a computer user choice. You won't be able to delete the Index.Dat file by this method. so don't select it.
