Don, my apologies, but I meant to write the +3 on the number row
rather than the number pad.

Hey Bill,

I tried the Insert + 3 on the numpad and nothing happened. The only way
that I can get that site to
work is to unload JAWS. Am I still doing something wrong? Thanks for all
of your help.

The problem with this web page is that if you have JAWS running and you
enter in any of the numbers JAWS presumes that you are looking for a heading
level equivalent to the number you entered. You need to use the "Pass Key
Through" feature of JAWS; you do this by pressing +3 (on the
number pad). Then if you enter in the number of your choice the web site
will act appropriately.

I suppose there are other ways around this little glitch from JAWS such as
unloading JAWS while on this web page or putting JAWS in "sleep mode" but
that has other ramifications that I prefer to avoid.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Having Trouble With A Web Site

2007-01-25 Thread ANDREW GODWIN

The insert Plus number row 3 bypass key command only allows one key to be
past thru. If you need to pass another one thru you must perform the bypass
key command again.

Okay...dumb question?

After the insert plus 3...then do you do the same thing to return JAWS to
its original function?

I went to the start list and restarted JAWS...this other method sounds
easier.

How does it work on the finish part of the game?

[JAWS-Users] Re: Having Trouble With A Web Site

2007-01-25 Thread David Ferrin

It's a one time thing. Here's how it works. It's called the by pass key
and all it does is allow the next key stroke to pass on through to the
application, but only that single key stroke. After that jaws returns to
monitoring your keyboard like normal.

Okay...dumb question?

After the insert plus 3...then do you do the same thing to return JAWS to
its original function?

I went to the start list and restarted JAWS...this other method sounds
easier.

How does it work on the finish part of the game?

2007-01-25 Thread Flor Lynch
The Insert+3 pass, will work if you use the number keys on the number row
instead of those on the numpad. If you want to use those on the numpad, you
will have to, as stated before, press the numlock on.

The problem with this web page is that if you have JAWS running and you
enter in any of the numbers JAWS presumes that you are looking for a heading

The problem with this web page is that if you have JAWS running and you
enter in any of the numbers JAWS presumes that you are looking for a heading
level equivalent to the number you entered. You need to use the "Pass Key
Through" feature of JAWS; you do this by pressing +3 (on the
number pad). Then if you enter in the number of your choice the web site
will act appropriately.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Having Trouble With A Web Site

2007-01-25 Thread Flor Lynch
You're meant to use the numpad numbers; so remember that numlock is off for the
benefit of JAWS and other screen readers. You still might want to unload JAWS
if you're using a software synthesizer from the same sound card as the 'real
audio'. The site is meant to be possible for a blind person to operate without
a screen reader.

There is a web page called "The Audio Network" that I am wanting to go too.
It has several games
and fun things on it. Once you get there you don't have to use your screen
reader. You are
supposed to press a certain number to select whatever catagory you wish to
choose. When I press the
numbers it doesn't do anything. I get the following message
No nest heading in level (whatever number I press) in this section.
Could someone please check this out and let me know if you are getting the
same results? If it
works for you, please let me know what I might be doing wrong? The link is:

[JAWS-Users] Re: Having Trouble With A Web Site

2007-01-25 Thread Flor Lynch
I think your best bet is to:

-- Switch the numlock on;
-- Install or allow the ActiveX button it wants - (unblock the pop-up in the
Information bar, Alt+n, right-click, etc.);
-- Then listen to the audio instructions, and use the numpad accordingly.

You have to turn off your screen reader, or, if you're using jfw, you must
use the "key passthru" function.
