Re: [JAWS-Users] ADDITIONAL VOICES FOR JAWS

2007-06-12 Thread John Justice
Hello Flor. I listened on that sample link and I agree with your
evaluation. Although the voices are interesting, they are not as good as
Eloquence, SAPI5 or even the older DecTalk 32. Thanks for the opportunity
to try something else.

[JAWS-Users] thanks

2007-06-12 Thread John Justice
Recently, I made an error in judgment and challenged some of the messages that
were appearing on this list. First of all, I had no business doing that.
Second of all, I was wrong for the most part. And finally, I inadvertently
annoyed the moderators who try their best to keep this list free of unwanted
fluff and stuff.
This list and its invaluable information is far too important to me to risk my
membership. Therefore, here now and for the record, let me state that I will
keep my opinions to myself as regards the content of this technically oriented
group. I had no wish to irritate or disturb the moderators for any reason. My
message was out of line in that regard. I will not apologize since that form
of note seems to aggravate rather than ameliorate. the people I'm trying to
address.

Thank you for allowing me to continue as a member of this group.

Re: [JAWS-Users] ADDITIONAL VOICES FOR JAWS

2007-06-12 Thread John Justice
Hello Rick. I am using Open Book Version 7.2 and that's where the problem
lies.
Here's what I mean. When I first loaded Open Book, there were several
different synthecizers that could be selected. But now, when I try to
choose anything but Eloquence, I get an error message. I have a bad feeling
that I may have to re-install Open Book. If you have ever worked with that
program, you know that it can be a real nuisance.
Anyway, as you always say, HTH.

insert+j to open your jaws window.

Open it up and you should be good to go, in other words the rest should be

Re: [JAWS-Users] Sapi 5 Voices

2007-06-12 Thread Flor Lynch
But if not already in SAPI5: Insert+j, l for language, c to get into the
Change Synthesizer submenu. The available synthesizers are then in a list.
The Voices Submenu allows changes of voices within a synthesizer or class of
synthesizer. Thus, SAPI5 does not include Eloquence (as Eloquence is not
SAPI5).

Re: [JAWS-Users] When a New Jaws User

2007-06-12 Thread Victor Gouveia
Hi Devona,

I'm not sure I understand your question.

I do use Norton Anti-virus, version 2005, and have done so since it's
release.

Although there was a fairly large learning curve with the program, Norton,
that is, eventually, you get used to the interface, and learn what you're
supposed to do.

If, you're asking about e-mail settings for Norton, I usually have it set to
scan incoming mail, and disable the outgoing e-mail scan, as I know that the
stuff that comes from my computer is safe, as anything that comes in, gets
scanned.

That isn't to say that my computer isn't susceptible to malware, or spyware.
You can get that stuff from anywhere you visit on the web, you just have to
constantly stay vigilant, and monitor everything on a weekly basis, with
scans and emptying the Recycle Bin, and other temporary files from your
computer, as that is where these nasty files tend to like to hide.

In any case, if I've answered your question, great, if not, please elaborate
as to what your question was.

Thanks,

Victor

  Hi Linda,

I don't know whether Jaws has anything to do with Norton Anti-virus, except
that unless you have patience, it can be frustrating to learn how to set it
  properly and stuff like that.

I have been using, and will continue to use Norton anti-virus on my computer

One can hear a sample of it at

I don't think it stands comparison with the synths already provided with

Hi Flor,

I stand corrected and apologize for my mistake.

I was under the impression that the other two voices came as a standard
default with Windows XP.

The only thing I can think of, is that my brother installed it for me every
time, and didn't let me know.

Guess I'm going to have a little talk with him.

Thanks for the clear up.

Have you tried the free Espeak synthesizer? You can get it from
http://espeak.sourceforge.net or by doing a google search for espeak.
Hope that helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Speech in control panel

2007-06-12 Thread Victor Gouveia

Re: [JAWS-Users] Speech in control panel

2007-06-12 Thread Flor Lynch
Hi Victor,

I do have other SSAPI5 voices installed, and they don't show in narrator.
Furthermore, as we're still talking XP here and not Vista, others have
verified that, though the other voices may be shown there, they are
intentionally disabled in Windows XP's narrator.

Hi Flor,

If you have other voices installed, such as the scansoft voices, or the next
up voices, they'll show there along with Sam, but even if you don't have
those additional voices installed, you still have the option of three voices
in Narrator.

Unfortunately, the names of the other two voices escape me, but they are
there by default, as far as I know. I may be wrong.

Hi all,
This is not a bug as you can see from the subject line, but if you go to
http://access.getwf.com JAWS announces "swedish". I thought this word
was on the web page, but when I navigated it using previous or next
character the word wasn't there. Does anyone else have this? I assume
it's part of the language features of JAWS and HTML, but wanted to make
sure. Thanks! P.S. Using JAWS 8.0.423 demo and Mozilla Firefox 2.0.4
when testing this out.

Hi Donnie,
In Windows XP, the only voice available for Narrator is Microsoft Sam.
The other 2 Microsoft voices are Mike and Mary,
and all 3 voices can be used with Jaws, or the default voice for your
computer, which is not to be confused with Narrator.

[JAWS-Users] An observation

2007-06-12 Thread Christopher Hallsworth
Hi all,
This is not a bug as you can see from the subject line, but if you go to
http://access.getwf.com JAWS announces "swedish".
