Same here. I'd recommend to you all, Mozilla Firefox! It's free, more secure

than IE, and, of course, works with the major screen readers! Get it at

At this time none of the windows based screen readers works at all with
safari. And since it's been called the most insecure browser out there
 for
the windows platform, I wouldn't waste my time with it if it did work.

 Hi,
I downloaded it and installed it, but it was completely unaccessible even

using the JAWS and invisible cursors to navigate around the application.
Then, I uninstalled it since it was not accessible.
 Hope this helps,

Since this will be a desktop icon, you could safely remove it altogether,
but for safety's sake move it to the recycle bin for now and see if you can
run Spybot without any issues. If not, then you can remove it from the

[JAWS-Users] Death of IE and jaws?

2007-08-06 Thread Cohn, Jonathan C [IT]
Hmm, can you elaborate on this issue a little? I was just doing my semi -
annual review and I clicked on the 'check spelling' button on the web page and
had to drop both IE and JAWS to get anything to work again. Is there a better
work around? I believe that little 'check spelling' button opens up an active
X into the spell checker of Office 2003.

Thanks,

Hi,

Try the Criss Cross Tech web page at:

http://www.crisscrosstech.com/

I noticed the latest update to the web site was in 2005, but the Audio
Tutorials link opens a page where you can order a tutorial for Microsoft
Excel. I've purchased other tutorials from this site and found them to be
extremely useful and I recommend you consider buying available products from

Chris was a former tech support person for GW Micro and her tutorials are
geared to WindowEyes users but she does an excellent job of explaining the
equivalent key strokes for JAWS users.

Re: [JAWS-Users] spybot

2007-08-06 Thread Lennie Rinaldi
Hi Patti,

The include icon for Spybot should contain the detection updates for
Spybot. You must update Spybot at least once a week to get the latest
detection for new spywares.

Usually you can update the detection rules with the check for update
button or go to Spybot home page and hit download and include the
latest updates manually.

Somehow, you must have downloaded the updates and save them on the
desktop instead of installing them. I believe that what is in your
desttop icon.

If anyone else can comment on this, please do so. One more thing, you
mentioned that there are 32 files,. Does these files have names that
look like to be detection updates?

 Chris,,

Advanced Find in Outlook Express is one of my favorite commands
and lets me find all sorts of posts I saved or find things from
 listserves quickly.

From the message list view in OE 6, press Control-Shif-F. JAWS
announces Find Message Dialogue and says look in and the name of the
folder you are in. Some of the more recent versions of JAWS say some
extraneous things here like adding reading only edit that you can get
it not to say. If you want to search in an OE folder other than the
one you are in, press alt b and you will get the folder list. To
search in the folder you are in, keep tabbing to find some of the
things you can search for. Tabbing 3 times is the place where you can
type in messages from a particular person, part of an e-mail address,
etc. Tab again and you get to where you can look for messages to
people lists, etc. Another tab brings you to subject if you want to
search for any part of what's in the subject field.
One more tab is for message if you remember anything in the message
body. The next 2 tabs get you to where you can search for messages
within a date range, say if you remember the message you're looking
for was written between april 1 and June 30 of this year. There's a
check box to check if you want to search for attachments. You can
search for any combinations of these items and if you search for
things in local folders, you can really increase the capability.

There are short cut keys too . If you want to search within the
folder you started the search with,, alt-r is the one to land you in
the from section. Alt-t for To;; Alt-u for subject; Alt-a for message
 and alt-h for attachment.

Hit enter when you've typed in all the items you want to search for
and you get a message list view with the results.

Hope that helps and you find Advanced Find as useful as I do.

 Hi all,,

In addition to not saying Unread, JAWS 7.1 was also not saying
Attachment in the resulting message list view after doing an
 Advanced Find
(Control-Shift-F) in OE 6 so I decided to try to manually label
graphics to see if it solved the problem.

I got JFW to say checked and unchecked after Advanced Find which
it wasn't doing and the state of the items is correct. I got it to
speak Attachment when there was one after doing a Control-Shift-F.
However, I pressed my luck and thought I had figured out that
 graphic
22 was supposed to be Unread and labeled itUnread. A test
determined that I blew that one and it did not make JAWS say
 Unread
in the resulting message list view. JAWS was saying Unread when I
routed JAWS to PC in the resulting message list view and I tried
getting it to say graphic 22 again and I was successful. I
 haven't
been able to figure out what graphic 22 is and sighted assistance is
 not available.

JAWS is correctly speaking the number of unread items when I do
 an
Insert-pg down after Control-shift-F, gut it worked properly in JFW
 7
and previous versions of JAWS as did the speaking of Attachment.

I remember that, for some reason, Advanced Find is somehow
 considered
to be part of XP Home and is not really part of OE or at least that
was the way it was with Win 98. At any rate I seem to be having to
configure things like muting the escape key again after hitting
Control-Shift-F after I've already done them in OE.

I did back up the more than one thousand files in shared files
 and
was thinking that I could replace whatever file has the labeled
graphics in Advanced Find with the original, but I don't know if

If anyone else can comment on this, please do so. One more thing, you
mentioned that there are 32 files,. Does these files have names that
look like to be detection updates?

Still, they can be deleted with a press of the delete key. The drafts
folder is not so unique - a message will remain in your Outbox until you
 send it.

Draft messages are automatically deleted once the messages in there are
sent. The drafts folder is unique in that messages you're in the progress
 of
sending are put in there ready for editing at a later time. Hope that
 helps.

Hi Margaret, thanks for your help. I will give it a shot now and let you
know how I get on with it. It's amazing that Outlook Express is full of
shortcut keys; no where can I see controls that are not assigned to a
shortcut key. Microsoft really gave accessibility a serious thought
obviously when developing Outlook Express. Anyway thanks again.

I got it to
 speak Attachment when there was

Oh yeah, of course! Sorry about that. However, unlike drafts, you cannot
edit a message once it's in the outbox; it will open as if it's a received
message.

 Hi all,,

In addition to not saying Unread, JAWS 7.1 was also not saying
 Attachment in the resulting

[JAWS-Users] AVG ANTI-SPY

2007-08-06 Thread Ricque
I was able to use the program with the following versions of Jaws: 6.2, 7.0,
and 8.0.
The program uses a standard installer which is no problem to naviggate.
The main window has to be navigated with the Jaws cursor.
The program can be accessed from the system tray,
and has the following items in the context menu:
Show main window
Run online update
Scan memory
Resident Shield
Automatic Updates
Start with Windows
Language
Information
Exit
I had no problem accessing any of these items.
In some of these windows, it's only a matter of performing a left mouse click
with the Jaws cursor,
on words like scheduler, update, or settings.
In some of the windows, clicking on an item, will open a dialogue from which
you can move thru
selections useing the tab key.
All of the necessary features can be accessed from the context menu much easier
than from the
program's main window.
I wouldn't write the program off, on the basis of having to use the Jaws cursor.
The scan I performed, was quick, and the results easy to read.
It didn't find any problems, so I can't advise on how to proceed with that.
However, from what I saw, it looked like to me, that it would not be hard to
figure out.
I'm not going to write complete instructions, since there doesn't appear to be
standard controls,
and how each individual machine, may cause Jaws
to respond differently.
