Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Media Player 11

2007-10-10 Thread torgersonenator
Hi
I agree that it is a frustrating program. What I have done is to go to
My computer and access the video disk drive directly. It takes a little
hunting but by clicking on different files you can usually find one that
will play the movie. If any one finds a video player that is easily
accessible I am interested.

God bless,
Mark

I am trying to play a dvd using this program. Is there anyway for Jaws to
navigate its controls!?! I did manage to press the play dvd button but
after that I only get blank I can't bring up a menu or even close the
window using either cursor. I am very frustrated. I can get another
program installed but that won't be for a few days and I had wanted access
to this dvd ASAP, so any suggestions would be most welcome!

 Thank you,
 Joy

Hi

Thank you for the encouraging E-Mail. I believe I will be able to get a

JAWS to the store with me and installing it there. That way I know that JAWS

I loaded JAWS on a Vista machine without turning anything off.
There is a warning somewhere in the process asking if you really want to
install it, and you don't get speech for that.

Actually, it is called, User Account Control and it is designed to prevent
you from running an executable file accidently by popping up a window asking
you if you are sure you want to do this.
I have mine disabled, so I am not sure how Jaws 9 works with the popup

[JAWS-Users] Maximising Windows automatically

2007-10-10 Thread David Griffith
Dear List

I routinely try to use Jaws with maximised windows as I find it works better
that way. An annoying feature of notepad and IE has been that guaranteeing
that they open in a maximised window can prove difficult.

I can open blank documents in notepad in a maximised window by editing the
shortcut properties but until now I could not force notepad to open
maximised when opening a text file in explorer.

I am just trying a free utility called autosizer which so far had worked
brilliantly and I have happily been reading text files with notepad opening
automatically in a maximised window when I click on the filename. It
apparently works with Outlook Express as well.

I got it from

http://www.southbaypc.com/AutoSizer/

When run it goes into the system tray so I suppose it should be put in your
startup folder if you want to use it all the time. Seems fairly small and
unobtrusive.

I have only been using it today but it has been very good so far. NOD32
reckons its ok.

Regards

David

Re: [JAWS-Users] Setting vista on laptop for JAWS

2007-10-10 Thread AMTK161
JAWS 9 pretty much works the same as JAWS 8 does, although at times JAWS
doesn't read the continue button, similar to how it acts while in the
copy/replace files dialogue box. To read the continue button I tab
forward and then go backward, that usually gets JAWS to read the button
correctly. I also have User Account Control disabled, but for some reason
after I installed AVG on my computer a message popped up in the system tray,
telling me I had multiple security problems...So when I went to fix these
problems User account control was turned back on.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Maximising Windows automatically

2007-10-10 Thread David A Ferrin
It also can be found on the group web site for over a year now. You are
correct in that it is very small and behaves well just sitting in the system
trey. I guess I got tired of editing all of my script files to employ the
auto maximize function, although I still use it for programs that JAWS does
not offer support out of the box so to speak.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Maximising Windows automatically

Regards

David

The benefit I can think of is that JAWS will not be in the alt tab list,
  so
if you have multiple applications open you can alt tab to them without alt
tabbing to JAWS. I like JAWS in my system tray, but some people prefer it
  in
the taskbar. It's just personal preference.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Media Player 11

2007-10-10 Thread carlene knight
Hi:

I haven't actually played a DVD with Media 11, but have played with
CD.'s., but when you choose play, it should automatically come up with
a dialogue box asking you what action you want to take, play, take no
action, or automatically ad to your library. I might not have the
wording right, I'll have to play with it more. Make sure that classic
layout is chosen. Perhaps that's why you're not seeing those choices.

navigate its controls!?! I did manage to press the play dvd button but
after that I only get blank I can't bring up a menu or even close the
window using either cursor. I am very frustrated. I can get another
program installed but that won't be for a few days and I had wanted access
to this dvd ASAP, so any suggestions would be most welcome!

 Thank you,
 Joy

 Carlene,
Don't feel stupid, ... may I welcome you to the pleasures of version
 eleven?

I had gotten it to work some time back with cds but found it a horrible
experience and promptly down graded as far back as that version of Windows
XP would allow. Unfortunately the one with the dvd player program in it
is running off of Vista and it won't let me run a more accessible
 (civilized) older version.

Best of luck, hope you get yours to co-operate with you. I would suggest
to anyone wondering whether or not to try eleven that if you do not need
 to upgrade you Don't!

Well, I feel really stupid because I can't duplicate what I did before.
I saw it before, but can't bring it up now. You could always try Media
10 until you can get another program. It is more accessible. I can't
seem to get anything to play directly from the CD. It just wants to ad
 it to my library.

Unfortunately that dialogue box is NOT what comes up.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Maximising Windows automatically

2007-10-10 Thread David Griffith
Sorry David
I had not noticed it on the programs page. It proves what a comprehensive
list of resources you have up there. A treasure trove really and saves a lot
of time trying to see if programs work,

Still I suppose the presence of this program has been advertised to the
list.

On another point I downloaded the excellent real alternative from the jaws
user programs page. This prompted me to look for QuickTime alternative which
also appears to be a good utility from the same source but is not I think on
the page. Have you had a look at QuickTime alternative? It seems much less
invasive than the actual QuickTime. The only problem I found was that you
need to type in manually your destination folder during setup.

I think some encyclopaedias need QuickTime to play media files.
Regards

David Griffith

It also can be found on the group web site for over a year now. You are
correct in that it is very small and behaves well just sitting in the system
trey. I guess I got tired of editing all of my script files to employ the
auto maximize function, although I still use it for programs that JAWS does
not offer support out of the box so to speak.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Maximising Windows automatically

Regards

David
