[JAWS-Users] reading beyond ...

2007-11-05 Thread Alan & Terrie Robbins
Recently I was in my address book looking at a long name followed by the
person's email address. I wanted to read the email address by character and
was using the JAWS cursor to do so when it encountered the ... at the end
indicating there was some truncated text. What is the key command or how
can you get JAWS to read the rest that doesn't show?

thanks
Al

Re: [JAWS-Users] reading beyond ...

2007-11-05 Thread David Griffith
Hello - I am not sure what email client you are using.

In outlook the easiest way to do this I find is to navigate with the Jaws
cursor to the address line in a received email. Double click and press tab
once will get you to a highlighted line with the email address. Pressing
control c will copy the information out.

I suspect something similar will work in Outlook Express.

Also in many email clients replying to a message will insert that address in
your address book.

Regards

David Griffith

I upgraded to I think the most recent version of Skype v3.5... I want to
download and install the correct version of the scripts
from the jaws users page. Is it the last skype script in the list that I need
which is number 16 in the (jfw-skr550.exe) list?

[JAWS-Users] Windows Media Player 2

2007-11-05 Thread Mo McCleary
Hey Jaws Wizards out there,

I have been using WinAmp for a while and I am tire of it's non-standard
behavior. I switched to Windows Media Player when I saw that the latest
version of Jaws enhancements better supports it. The only thing is that I'm
using version 2 of Windows Media Player, and the scripts are written for
version 1. When I got into keyboard manager to find out the keyboard
commands, I found cntrl-alt l gives me the current play list and cntrl-alt m
the main tree. Both scripts fail resulting in an error message being
spoken. I dug a bit into the script and found that the function
FindWindowWithClassAndID() is returning a null or 0. Should I dig deeper or
am I making life harder for myself than I need to? It seems that the Jaws
Class Reassign option insert 7 should help this problem. If I reassign the
new class that should be a tree view, then the scripts should work. I
didn't quite know what to do. Any ideas? If I mess things up with the
class reassign, can I get back my origanal settings?

[JAWS-Users] How do I know what is currently playing in Windows Media Player?

2007-11-05 Thread Jamie Pauls
I decided to play with Windows Media Player using Jaws 9 today. I first
discovered that pressing insert f1 twice quickly no longer jumps me to the
help topic for that application. Has this changed recently? Second, I do not
see a way to quickly find out what track is currently playing in Media
Player. Thirdly, the Jaws help info I found suggested that the user should
press alt V and then G to move to the go to menu. I find no such menu in my
version of Windows Media Player. which is version 11. Should I be using
classic menus? Thanks.

previous public beta releases and reported them so well using the Beta Report
form on this page. As a result, many of the items were resolved and have been
included in this fourth update on November 5th. Others are still under
investigation, and we will be looking forward to posting more updates soon.

Note: To ensure that you have the latest public beta release, first download
and install the JAWS 9.0 public beta release. The beta download link appears at
the bottom of this page. Once it is installed, use the automated update feature
to install the latest updates.

JAWS
a.. Download the forty-five minute long audio recording of Eric Damery as he
discusses What's New in JAWS 9.0, the new features available in the upcoming
version of JAWS 9.0! This is a ZIP file containing one MP3 audio segment. This
recording will be included as a DAISY book on the program CD when JAWS 9.0
begins shipping.
b.. Windows Vista users will see noticeable improvements in the
responsiveness of JAWS when using Eloquence speech synthesizer. For example,
this can be seen when navigating through the Start menu or typing text in the
Internet Explorer address bar.
c.. Public beta testers reported braille contraction errors with several
words. The following words now contract correctly: ant; be; bottleneck; clip
art; denote; denoted; denominator; denounce; denouncing; denunciate; Hadley;
MIME-Version; names beginning with McC; newsletter; nonesuch; nonetheless;
numbers that follow two slashes; scones; was; were; words beginning with the
prefix non-, such as noneruptive and nonerosive; and words ending in -bly, such
as agreeably and interchangeably.
d.. Resolved an issue where capitalization in braille was not recognized in
mixed numerals and capital letters.
e.. When you toggle contracted braille on and off (G CHORD), JAWS now clearly
states if you are turning on Grade 2 translation or turning off Grade 2
translation.
f.. Worked closely with developers from Alliance Enterprises, Inc. to resolve
an issue with the AwareT Web-based case management software system, JAWS, and
HTML Forms mode.
Note: This fix has been in previous JAWS 9.0 releases, but it has not been
mentioned until now.

g.. Resolved an issue regarding empty virtual buffers as reported by the
public. This typically occurred when you pressed CTRL or DOWN ARROW to
interrupt the Say All function while a Web page was loading.
Note: This fix has been in previous JAWS 9.0 releases, but it has not been
mentioned until now.

h.. Resolved and issue reported in Windows 2000 where JAWS was not exiting as
expected when using INSERT+F4 to exit.
i.. If a misspelled word is found while spell checking a Word document, JAWS
now spells the entire word that appears in the Suggestions list box when you
press UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW.
j.. When running JAWS and MAGic together, pressing CTRL to stop speech during
a Say All (INSERT+DOWN ARROW) no longer disables speech.
k.. When running JAWS and MAGic together, MAGic can now track desktop icons
when using the ARROW keys to move from one icon to the next.
l.. If the JAWS Cursor is active, the CTRL+DOWN ARROW keystroke now moves to
the next paragraph on an HTML page instead of disabling the JAWS Cursor.
m.. Although JAWS only announces the contents of the Virtual Viewer once, it
no longer visually shows the contents twice within the Virtual Viewer window.
n.. JAWS now announces the message Nothing selected if you press CTRL+C while
in a Virtualized Window (INSERT+CTRL+W) with no text selected.
o.. JAWS no longer truncates speech when navigating window panes in the JAWS
help system.
p.. JAWS no longer announces the A Script Can Not Be Called Within Itself
message when selecting a link in the Hot key Help (INSERT+H) dialog box. This
occurred in multiple applications.
q.. Resolved a reported problem with AutoComplete not not speaking or getting
represented in braille correctly. Two examples of this were in the Open
(CTRL+O) dialog box found in Internet Explorer or the Run command (WINDOWS
Key+R) dialog box.
r.. Resolved a reported issue found when using the Append to Clipboard
(WINDOWS Key+C) command several times, which would result in only the last
selection added being present when the user pasted (CTRL+V) from the clipboard.
AOL Instant Messenger
  a.. Updated AIM® scripts.
Citrix/Windows Terminal Services
a.. Fixed a reported problem where the communication between JAWS on a Client
and Server may have been briefly interrupted, which caused the

[JAWS-Users] I noticed something

2007-11-05 Thread Siobhan
Hi all. I changed the verbosity in Jaws nine to advanced, and there's only one
small problem. It doesn't report the progress bar, like in web page loading,
or as I just did, while the update downloaded. I'm sort of used to that, so I
was wondering one, if anyone would also still like that heard and two, if it
would be nuts to ask for this while jaws is still in beta. I don't want to
sound picky, I love advanced verbosity just I'd rather hear the percentage
spoken. Hope this made some semblance of sense. Talk soon,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Upper Case Pitch Increase

2007-11-05 Thread Mark Finnigan
Rosemarie,

I am using Word 2003. I have the same problem with Outlook 2003 as well. I
am not sure this problem is application specific, but If there is a way to
change the pitch setting for one program, it may work for others.

Appreciate anything you can find.

Regards,

Mark

Hi, Mark. Which version of MS word are you using? I could look up in my
tutorial and see if it has something about increasing the pitch.

The only reason I haven't done that is that it would be overridden by the
advanced setting. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try it, but I don't
think it will work.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Creating more than one header in a single document?

2007-11-05 Thread Annette
Steve,

Thank you so much for this small but very powerful piece of information.
You have solved many of my frustrations with formatting documents in
MS-Word. I have always complained how MS-Word is so much more restrictive
then WordPerfect had been, but now I know the secret to accomplishing
multiple types of formatting with in the same document.

Thanks

Debbie,

This is exactly what section breaks are for. If you put a next page section
break in a document instead of a hard page break, you will find you can
create headers and footers for each section. To insert a section break go to
the Insert menu and choose Break, and on the dialogue that appears, choose
Next page. In Word 2007 the keystrokes Alt, I, B still get the Break
dialogue.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Creating more than one header in a single document?

Hi:

I know how to create a header, but I want a different header after entering
a hard page break. For example the beginning of the document would have
todays date on every printed page. Next if I then hit
ctrl+enter, and wanted tomorrows date on the next header, wouldn't the
same header end up on the page? How can I get the new pages in the document
to reflect tomorrow's date? Sorry if this is unclear! Thanks for the help,
Deb.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Not Reporting the Progress Bar In Advanced Verbosity

2007-11-05 Thread AMTK161
Interesting post, I agree with you in that reporting of the information bar
is very important to me, now that I'm used to having it read aloud. I don't
think it'd be too much to ask FS to institute this feature; that said, I
don't think it'd be a very difficult fix, from what it sounds like.

[JAWS-Users] jaws and colors

2007-11-05 Thread Russell Curry
I'd like to know if Jaws handles colors--specifically a chart that uses blue
and brown as indicators? Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] I noticed something

2007-11-05 Thread Chris Hallsworth
Hi, open configuration manager, press alt s to open the set options
menu, press v to open the verbosity settings dialogue box, tab to the
advanced preferences button, down arrow until you hear "positional
information not checked", press space on that, press enter, tab to
ok, press enter, then save as usual. Finally, close Configuration
Manager. Hope that helps.
