[JAWS-Users] Final Release of JAWS 9 scheduled for posting Monday at Noon ET

2007-11-17 Thread Eric Damery
All,

Just wanted to let you all know first, that the final release of JAWS 9
is now slated to go live on Monday at noon (east coast time). The CDs
for anyone with an SMA will also all be shipped no later than Wednesday
November 21 so they will begin to arrive next weekend for most people.
We will be posting updated information about the final changes for JAWS
9 along with a FAQ section on the Freedom Scientific web site Monday
morning so please watch there for details.

Just a couple of comments for the most obvious questions:
If you have been participating in the Public beta cycle and you are
entitled to get the final release because of the SMA, then you should be
able to use the Check for Updates feature and install the final
release that way. If for some reason, the Check for Update process does
not work as expected for you, we suggest that you please just download
the full version from the web and install it that way.

If you are not entitled for JAWS 9 yet, but you have been using the
public beta version over the past couple of months, we suggest you
download the Demo Version of the JAWS 9 final release and install it
over top of the public beta version before December 1, when the beta is
set to expire. The Demo version will post on Monday at the same time as
the release version.

We would really like to thank all of you who participated in the beta
process. The feedback from you was fantastic and we know that it
resulted in many improvements to the final release making JAWS 9 a huge
success. We are looking forward to following up the successful JAWS 9
release with MAGic 11, Openbook 8, and of course, the PAC Mate OMNI
release during the next month or so. Please watch our web site for all
the details as we gear up for a very exciting 2008.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Final Release of JAWS 9 scheduled for posting Mondayat Noon ET

2007-11-17 Thread Chris Hallsworth
Wow, thanks for letting us know about it! Very much looking forward to the
final release of JAWS 9. May I ask though, what's the difference between the
demo version and the release version, short of the fact that there's no way
to activate the demo version? Just curious as I've always been downloading
the ILM versions of JAWS and running it in 40 minute mode. Thanks in
advance, and good luck with the final release!

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws 8 and vista home premium

2007-11-17 Thread AMTK161
Hi,

JAWS 8.0.2173 (The last JAWS 8.0 release) works with Windows Vista Home
Premium. If possible, I'd recommend upgrading to JAWS 9.0 once the final
release comes out...Eloquence is a lot more responsive, and a lot of
problems have been fixed.

Does jaws 8 and vista home premium work well together?
I just bought a lap top with vista home premium on it.

Eloquence sounds like crap now with the rice crispies effect. I'll take
some slowness which I didn't have on my machine over the constant crackling.
FS is aware of this problem but dosent' know if it will be resolved in the
jaws 9 final or not. I for one will not be pleased if it's not fixed.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Final Release of JAWS 9 scheduled for posting Mondayat
Noon ET

Yes they offered a downgrade to eloquence for jaws 8 to fix it. I'm
hopeful they'll fix it for the final release though.

I haven't had that degree of problems with Eloquence and JAWS 9.0.467;
perhaps if FS can't fix the problem they should offer a downgradeable
version?

Eloquence sounds like crap now with the rice crispies effect. I'll take
some slowness which I didn't have on my machine over the constant
 crackling.
FS is aware of this problem but dosent' know if it will be resolved in the
jaws 9 final or not. I for one will not be pleased if it's not fixed.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Final Release of JAWS 9 scheduled for postingMondayat Noon ET

2007-11-17 Thread Flor Lynch
Chris,

My understanding is that if you download the release 9.0 over top of the
beta, and you were not entitled by SMA to it, the demo will expire anyway on
1 December. this means that, you will then have to download 'the authorized
demo', if you follow.

However, I have another, perhaps related question - which might be addressed
in the upcoming FAQ on site. How will those of us on SMA's, who may not yet
have received the 9.0 CD, having gone through (up to this point) the same
process as anybody else trying out the 9 beta, not also be expired on 1
December? Is there something else (on-line, since not all may have got
their CD's by 1 December), 'for authorized users'?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Final Release of JAWS 9 scheduled for postingMondayat Noon ET

2007-11-17 Thread Alan Terrie Robbins
Personally, my plan is to uninstall the beta releases and all updates and
install fresh from the CD. Hopefully FS has improved the import feature so
I can pull all my customization in from JAWS 8. In the past folks have
discouraged me from doing this but if it wasn't a good idea, why would FS
have that feature? What are others planning to do?

Wow, thanks for letting us know about it! Very much looking forward to the
final release of JAWS 9. May I ask though, what's the difference between the
demo version and the release version, short of the fact that there's no way
to activate the demo version? Just curious as I've always been downloading
the ILM versions of JAWS and running it in 40 minute mode. Thanks in
advance, and good luck with the final release!

Noon ET

 Kind Regards,

perhaps if FS can't fix the problem they should offer a downgradeable

FS is aware of this problem but dosent' know if it will be resolved in

This subject has probably discussed several times.
But I will ask once more.
Does jaws 8 and vista home premium work well together?
I just bought a lap top with vista home premium on it.
 Thanks very much.

Personally, my plan is to uninstall the beta releases and all updates and
install fresh from the CD. Hopefully FS has improved the import feature
 so
I can pull all my customization in from JAWS 8. In the past folks have
discouraged me from doing this but if it wasn't a good idea, why would FS
have that feature? What are others planning to do?

 Chris,

My understanding is that if you download the release 9.0 over top of the
beta, and you were not entitled by SMA to it, the demo will expire anyway
 on
1 December. this means that, you will then have to download 'the
 authorized
 demo', if you follow.

However, I have another, perhaps related question - which might be
 addressed
in the upcoming FAQ on site. How will those of us on SMA's, who may not
 yet
have received the 9.0 CD, having gone through (up to this point) the same
process as anybody else trying out the 9 beta, not also be expired on 1
December? Is there something else (on-line, since not all may have got
their CD's by 1 December), 'for authorized users'?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Final Release of JAWS 9 scheduledforpostingMondayat Noon ET

2007-11-17 Thread Flor Lynch
Chris,

That's a good question, which I've also asked. On one hand I think you can
feel quite confident that, perhaps before the end of the
six-month period, there will be some update available to the ILM licence
holders, on foot of their purchase of JAWS9 or renewal of SMA within the
'grace period or shortly after, which would probably necessitate a new
download (of the upgrade version) of the demo, anyway (and may also mean
that owners must update?), whatever the outcome of the present first release
of the full and demo versions of JAWS9 be. At the end of Eric's message,
however, he does recommend that those not qualified for the full JAWS9
change to the demo either on Monday or before 1 December; so perhaps there's
something in both of the downloads that recognises what-for.

Hi, guess I've been lucky then. All machines I owned or borrowed that had
JAWS installed, from 3.2 upwards, I did not experience any issues with
Eloquence.

maybe on your machine, but it's crap here and on others I've spoken too
 and
FS openly admits they caused the issue.

Same here. Haven't read the original thread, but Eloquence is very good
 with
 this final public beta.

I haven't had that degree of problems with Eloquence and JAWS 9.0.467;
perhaps if FS can't fix the problem they should offer a downgradeable
 version?

Eloquence sounds like crap now with the rice crispies effect. I'll take
some slowness which I didn't have on my machine over the constant
 crackling.
FS is aware of this problem but dosent' know if it will be resolved in
 the
jaws 9 final or not. I for one will not be pleased if it's not fixed.

 Hi,

JAWS 8.0.2173 (The last JAWS 8.0 release) works with Windows Vista Home
Premium. If possible, I'd recommend upgrading to JAWS 9.0 once the
 final
release comes out...Eloquence is a lot more responsive, and a lot of
 problems have been fixed.

This subject has probably discussed several times.
But I will ask once more.
Does jaws 8 and vista home premium work well together?
I just bought a lap top with vista home premium on it.
 Thanks very much.
