  Hi Ming.

Unfortunately, JAWS 8 and higher no longer has that feature. It sure would
be pretty handy to have that, but FS decided for what I'm sure are good reasons
not to continue support for that. Since our resident FS employee is on this
list, I for one would like to put the bug in your ear, Mr. Damery, about how
much I like that feature and wish it were back with the current versions of

Re: [JAWS-Users] DVD controls

2007-11-23 Thread rcham27
Thanks for the info.
I was able to negotiate the DVD by using the right mouse button and arrow
keys. The keyboard short keys did not all work whether or not I had JAWS on
or off.

This particular DVD was a compliment to a text book and had 54 video clips.
There were descriptions to each clip but JAWS could not read them. Neither
curser would say anything but graphic.

 Hello

This can happen but there are solutions.
I recently installed media software on a new computer and found also that
shortcut keys no longer worked with Jaws running. Strange as on my old PC
 there was no problem.

Anyway the solution generally is to use the Jaws Pass through command.
 That
is Insert key + 3. Jaws will say enter key to pass through and your
 shortcut
should now work. This is a little cumbersome and you may wish to unload
 Jaws
temporarily whilst using DVD software which will also cure the problem.

You will need to have a hotkey combination assigned in order to reload
 Jaws
when you have finished with your DVD.

You could also look at the Tips and Tricks page where scripts for
 disabling
 Jaws temporarily are discussed.

[JAWS-Users] Information regarding the JAWS 9 SMA shipment in the United States

2007-11-23 Thread Eric Damery
All,

Shortly after the JAWS 9 SMA shipments were mailed in the United States,
it was discovered that a high percentage of them may fail during the
install process. As a result, we have taken steps to do a second
shipment this coming week for all customers scheduled to receive this
SMA package. If you or someone you know receives their SMA product and
is experiencing any problems installing, we request that they simply
discard that CD as a second CD will be arriving within the next 7 to 10
days.

The second packages being mailed out will contain an indication on the
outside of the package in braille that says Replacement CD. We are
also having this entered on the mailing label and when you open the
Replacement CD package, there will be a print and braille note
explaining the second delivery.

For customers outside of the United States, we have worked with the
distributors to prevent the first shipment so you should be getting one
mailing in the next 7 to 10 days. It will also include the text
Replacement CD in both braille and print on the outside. These
international packages will not include the note inside since this
should be the first and only SMA package you received.

We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this may cause. If
necessary, we will post updated information this coming week on our Home
Page at www.freedomscientific.com.

As a reminder, the release version is currently posted on the Freedom
Scientific Web Site and available for all to download and install now.

Kind Regards,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Interesting use for the Select andcopyusingon-screen highlight feature

2007-11-23 Thread Chris Hallsworth
Not really a new feature, but it's an enhancement. You see, it's now
possible to paste in the contents of the web page, yet preserve the
formatting and remove the clutter that JAWS puts, like table with x columns

Is that a new feature? I seem to remember highlighting bits of Web pages
for years as part of the copy function when lifting passages or other
information to move into another document or e-mail message. Maybe since
 Jaws 2.0 .

I had never thought of it as a way to attract attention to my location for
sighted folk but will in future.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Interesting use for the Select and copy
 usingon-screen highlight feature

 Hello All,

Incidentally, this is my first post to the list; I've just joined and am
really looking forward to taking advantage of the wealth of resources
 about
JAWS that seem to be here.

I'm often looking at websites with other sighted people, and have found
 it
somewhat frustrating in the past to show the other person where I am
 located
on the web page. This could seem quite insignificant, but believe
 me--when
you are on a very long catalogue, study guide or database, it can be
 crutial
to know where the other is on the page, so that you can be examining the
same pieces of information. Well, with JAWS 9.0, all that is necessary
 is
for me to highlight a few words on the line I'm sitting on with a
 command
like CTRL+SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW. Since JAWS can now track the highlighting
visually on-screen, I find that this is a terrific reference marker for
 a
sighted person to see, and almost feel that this should be added to the
documentation as an interesting use of the on-screen highlight tracking
 feature.

So, after using JAWS 9.0 for a couple of months now, I just couldn't
 ever
 go
 back!

 Cheers,

 Grant

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 9.0 and Ad-Aware

After installingJAWS 9.0 I no longer can scan Ad-Aware as I did before. I
wonder if anyone else has had this problem and what you did to restore
things as they were before. It seems that I had this problem before after
an installation of JAWS but I can't remember what I did to correct things.
Any info will be greatly appreciated.

 Best wishes,

Re: [JAWS-Users] How do you reverse a blocked sender in OE?

2007-11-23 Thread Rick
Hi George,
Alt T for tools, R for message rules, and then S, for the blocked senders
list.
You will have to arrow thru the list to find the address you are wanting to
remove, and then tab to the remove button, and press the spacebar.
You will get a dialogue asking you to confirm your choice, so hit the
spacebar to accept your changes.
The default button here is, Okay, so
Tab once, and then press the spacebar to close the dialogue.
You are done.

Unfortunately, JAWS 8 and higher no longer has that feature. It sure would
be pretty handy to have that, but FS decided for what I'm sure are good
reasons not to continue support for that. Since our resident FS employee is

Re: [JAWS-Users] Recording Software

2007-11-23 Thread Bob J.
You may need to turn down the volume on the cassette player in addition to
using an atenuated patch cord. Such patch cords are usually available at
Radio Shack. Btw, most patch cords have a male connector at each end and
those connectors would normally be referred to as a plug, not as a jack.

An attenuator cord can look just like a regular patch cord, but it has a
component in it that decreases the level of the signal that is transmitted
through it. It's used when the device you're sending the signal to needs a
lower level than is being output by the other device.

Re: [JAWS-Users] DVD controls

2007-11-23 Thread David Griffith
Hello

This can happen but there are solutions.
I recently installed media software on a new computer and found also that
shortcut keys no longer worked with Jaws running. Strange as on my old PC
there was no problem.

Anyway the solution generally is to use the Jaws Pass through command. That
is Insert key + 3. Jaws will say enter key to pass through and your shortcut
should now work. This is a little cumbersome and you may wish to unload Jaws
temporarily whilst using DVD software which will also cure the problem.

You will need to have a hotkey combination assigned in order to reload Jaws
when you have finished with your DVD.

You could also look at the Tips and Tricks page where scripts for disabling
Jaws temporarily are discussed.

Regards

David Griffith

Hi everyone:

I am not having any luck using the keyboard controls in managing a DVD.
Would the key commands have changed from 6.0 to 8.0?
The stop, start, and eject work, but I can not seem to jump from one chapter

repeating itself no matter what I do.

Thanks for any help.

Re: [JAWS-Users] thumb drive version of Jaws

2007-11-23 Thread Eric Damery
Hello all,

There were technical reasons why creating a Thumb Drive version changed
significantly between JAWS 7.0 and higher. As a result, we did not create
updated thumb drive versions since the JAWS 7 version (which can be downloaded
still from our web site, and installed on the USB drive of your choice.

With the release of JAWS 9 and MAGic 11, we are also working on versions which
will provide options for thumb drives early in 2008. We will release more
details when appropriate.

Eric Damery

Hi Ming.

Unfortunately, JAWS 8 and higher no longer has that feature. It sure would be
pretty handy to have that, but FS decided for what I'm sure are good reasons
not to continue support for that. Since our resident FS employee is on this
list, I for one would like to put the bug in your ear, Mr. Damery, about how
much I like that feature and wish it were back with the current versions of
JAWS. :)

Re: [JAWS-Users] thumb drive version of Jaws

2007-11-23 Thread Matthew Horspool
Hi Eric,

Can't the FSDOM and similar components be included as a separate download
from the FS website, similar to the Video Interception and Sentinel System
Drivers? (This is the only major techical change I can think of between
JAWS 7 and JAWS 7.1.)

Also, it would have been good if FS made an official announcement regarding
the lack of Thumb Drive versions much sooner than this, particularly as only
one version up until now has been created. I, for one, assumed that the
project was either too much work, cost too much or was underused. To simply
mention in the What's New and other places that such and such a feature
inhibits Portable JAWS would have been much appreciated here.

Matthew

Hi, PowerPoint comes with every flavour of Office, and should have been
installed. If not, simply insert your Office CD and follow the instructions
to install PowerPoint. Hope that helps.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Searching for power point

 Hi guys:
I have 9.0 and XP home.
My Dell PC is around 3 years old.
I tried to open an attachment of a PowerPoint presentation and it wouldn't
 open.
I have never looked for power point or even excel.
My question is, how can I check to see if I have power point on the
 computer?
I tried opening Microsoft office and could not locate it.
I tried the search command also.
I am afraid of screwing up something big if I put my windows XP disc in
 and
 try to load something.

 Any thoughts would be helpful.
 Thank you.

 Rich
