Hi, could you not just insert the CD into your CD drive and tell by the
signs of a defective CD? Just a thought.

I myself know braille; and, being overseas, the problem probably will not
apply to me. Is there a braille label for the original and defective CD?
If there is, how would those who don't know braille know the difference
 between the two CD packages?

hi. I just took a look, and it's
really easy to tell the replacement JAWS 9.0 CD from the
original. Right there on the paper sleave the CD is in, there's a
braille label that says, JAWS 9.0 SMA replacement CD. So that
should leave little doubt as to which one is which.
 Just thought I'd add that.

hi. this is an easy one. if you have a downloaded version of the
final release of JAWS 9.0 already on your computer, do nothing. You
won't need to actually install JAWS again, since the version on the
CD is *exactly* the same version as you have running now. however,
if you're really curious to see, you can open up the cds and check
them to see if they work. If they both run, you can either throw one
of them away, or keep it as a back up.
and obviously if you try them and one of them doesn't work, you can
just ditch the one that doesn't work and keep the one that does work
in a safe place. you never know when you may need your JAWS cd.
Either way, if JAWS 9 final release is already running, you won't
need to re-install it, just because it's on the CD. the downloaded
version and the one on the cd are one and the same.

Hope this helps.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to determine which is the bad CD

Re: [JAWS-Users] MSN Word 2003

2007-12-04 Thread Ann Byrne
You should be able to highlight a non-breaking space and copy it to
the clipboard. Go to 'find and replace' paste the character in the
find field, replace it with nothing--just tab past the replace--or
with a blank, tab to replace all and press enter.

If yu replace with nothing, there won't be a space; so maybe you want
to replace it with a blank. I don't know if you can do that--but maybe.

Good luck.

[JAWS-Users] non-breaking space in Microsoft Word

2007-12-04 Thread Flor Lynch
You would use a non-breaking space to separate words where you do not want a
line-break to divide them, so that all the words will appear on the same
line, as in the case of headings or titles, etc. In order to Find Replace
non-breaking spaces in Microsoft word, in the Find Replace dialogue open
the More menu with spacebar, then tab to and open the Special Button menu by
arrowing down it. The special symbols (of which the non-breaking space is
one) are listed here and are preceded by the carat sign - shift +6 on the
number row. The symbol for non-breaking space is ^s [that is, carat s].

Press F5, and either take a long walk or retire to your chamber, or have
 a
cup of coffee. F5 is the Check All key. F6 is the 'catch-up' function
 key,
which downloads the latest episodes from the feeds. Hit ctrl+tab or use
 the
View menu to get to your subscriptions. If you see your podcast feeds
there, you are subscribed. I'm using XP SP2. Note that Juice will not
 work
on 9x OS's. Does Juice know your connection type? (If at the end of all
you still can't get it to work, try reinstalling.)

This is helpful as I did not know that you could not play pod casts
 witching
Juice. This would be ok however if Juice actually downloaded anything.

I was actually able to get the feeds in OK already. Its just bafflingly
difficult to do anything with them once they are in there.
I have checked the download folder numerous times and there is nothing
there. I have adjusted the scheduler as you suggest -still nothing.

I have inserted 23 feeds which worked using accessible pod caster but
 Juice
seems to be sullenly ignoring them.
Very simply how can I get Juice to download a Pod cast?

 David

 Hi David,

You're on the right track having downloaded Juice. You need to know that
juice is only the pod-catching program - you set options in it to have a
player, such as Winamp or windows media Player, or whichever, be the
 player
of choice. You can press alt-v to bring up the View menu, or you can hit
ctrl and tab to get to the various dialogues. To Add a New Feed, i.e., a
new podcast, you hit ctrl-n and type in (or paste) the url of the podcast
you want to add, and then tab to save, and then save. Hit ctrl-l to look
 at
the scheduling of when podcasts are to be downloaded. (To change the
frequency, you have two radiobuttons, for which you may need to use the
 JAWS
cursor. The default radiobutton is set to allow Juice to download every
eight hours. the other radiobutton allows the user to set the time
interval. In this second scenario, then you can up-arrow into the 'combo
box' for the time invtervals.) In the Directory Tab, you will find
 several
directories from which you can choose podcasts to subscribe to.
Regretttably, some of these directories have closed since Juice was
 current,
which is two years ago and more. . Also regrettably, Juice is not being
 developed any more.

If you have Internet Explorer 7, you can also or instead use that to
subscribe to podcasts in the same way you use it to subscribe to RSS.
 And,
yes, the latest edition of the FSCast podcast (on the Freedom Scientific
Website) talks about ... RSS and podcasts using Internet Explorer 7 and
JAWS9.0. A good listen, I daresay, even if you don't have Internet
 Explorer
 7.

Press F5, and either take a long walk or retire to your chamber, or have
 a
cup of coffee. F5 is the Check All key. F6 is the 'catch-up' function
 key,
which downloads the latest episodes from the feeds. Hit ctrl+tab or use
 the
View menu to get to your subscriptions. If you see your podcast feeds
there, you are subscribed. I'm using XP SP2. Note that Juice will not
 work
on 9x OS's. Does Juice know your connection type? (If at the end of all
you still can't get it to work, try reinstalling.)

 Thanks

This is helpful as I did not know that you could not play pod casts
 witching
Juice. This would be ok however if Juice actually downloaded anything.

I was actually able to get the feeds in OK already. Its just bafflingly
difficult to do anything with them once they are in there.
I have checked the download folder numerous times and there is nothing
there. I have adjusted the scheduler as you suggest -still nothing.

I have inserted 23 feeds which worked using accessible pod caster but
 Juice
seems to be sullenly ignoring them.
Very simply how can I get Juice to download a Pod cast?

 Regards

 David

 Website) talks

Re: [JAWS-Users] installing jaws 9 training material

2007-12-04 Thread Tony Hernandez
HI Lisa.

When you install JAWS 9, it will ask you to restart your computer. Just
leave the CD in the drive. You'll be taken to the JAWS startup wizard.
There is where you'll be asked if you would like to install the traning
materials. If you don't get the startup Wizard, you can find it by going to
the JAWS window with insert j, activating the help menu, and then arrowing
up three times to the start up wizard. Hope this helps.

If it doesn't open for you directly when you hit enter on the url:

1.  Select the URL and copy it to the clipboard (with ctrl-c);

2.  Open your browser;

3. Go to your browser, and either hit ctrl-o to open, or bring up your
address bar;

3.  Paste the contents of your clipboard into the Edit Combo;

4. Hit Enter.

5. The file should open. It is 2 hours, 15 minutes, 40 seconds in length.
Better have a broadband connection!

Re: [JAWS-Users] installing jaws 9 training material

2007-12-04 Thread Chris Skarstad
Hi. After you install JAWS from the CD, you will be asked if you'd
like to install the JAWS 9.0 training material. so just answer yes.
If for some reason you aren't asked to install it, you can look on
the CD for a training folder and simply copy that to any location
you'd like on your machine.
But keep in mind folks, you don't *have* to do it this way. The
DAISY books and mp3 files for the JAWS 9.0 training can be freely
downloaded from the FS site from the Training Headquarters link. If
you're on a slower connection, or just don't want to do it that way
though, you can most certainly install it from the CD. I mentioned
the website though, because as new training material is made
available, it's posted to the website, so you might miss something
new that isn't on the cd. So I thought I'd make it absolutely clear
that the CD isn't your only option of installing the training materials.
  Hope that helps.

I recently installed 9.0 from the Freedom Scientific web site.
It went well.
However, I also tried to download the training material.
I am not sure if it worked.
I know this sounds silly, but when I try to open the training material, it
sounds like I only get JAWS 8.0 material.
My question is, How can I tell of I have the most recent version of training
material?

Thank you.

[JAWS-Users] Signatures in O.E.

2007-12-04 Thread Taika

Hello!

For some reason, when I try to create a new signature in O.E. under Tools
and the Signature Tab, when I go to Apply it before Okaying it, my computer
does all kinds of weird things. Something about a don't Send Button.
Question: Is there perhaps a quota or volume load for the number of
signatures or space they occupy?
Question: If so, then should I delete some signatures, in order to try to
create new ones in their places?

Some signatures already created also seem corrupted.

Thanks for your ideas and guidance on this subject.

[JAWS-Users] Start menu problem

2007-12-04 Thread Patti
Hey Gang,
My friend needs your help on this problem.
Thanks for your help.
Patti

I have a question I'm hoping you might help me with.
I'm still stuck with JAWS 4.51, IE 6 and windows 2000.
Most of the time my start menu won't open using the windows key. It just says
start button; press enter to open but will not open anything. I know that
programs is the second P on this menu but pressing P twice and entering does
nothing. Luckily, if I want to shut down the computer/or restart, if I arrow
up once and enter, it does bring up that box.
If you have any suggestions, I'd sure appreciate them.
Thanks for your time.

2007-12-04 Thread Denny Huff
Well, not that I know of.
There is probably a command she could type in the run dialogue, but if she
can't get the start menu to open, then it wouldn't do her a lot of good.
She could try changing keyboards and see if that helps.

Hey Denny,
She tried that and no luck.
Is there anything else she can do?
She has rebooted the computer, and some times the start menu will open.

Tell her to try the control escape key combination.

 Hey Gang,
My friend needs your help on this problem.
 Thanks for your help.
 Patti

I have a question I'm hoping you might help me with.
I'm still stuck with JAWS 4.51, IE 6 and windows 2000.
Most of the time my start menu won't open using the windows key. It just
says start button; press enter to open but will not open anything. I
 know
that programs is the second P on this menu but pressing P twice and
 entering
does nothing. Luckily, if I want to shut down the computer/or restart, if

 I
arrow up once and enter, it does bring up that box.
If you have any suggestions, I'd sure appreciate them.
 Thanks for your time.

2007-12-04 Thread Rick
Hi John,
I just hit enter on the link, and it opened the file download dialogue.
Try re-loading the page, and hit the link once again.

 Hi John,
What exactly did you do to try and listen to it?
Did you download it, or what?
