Re: [JAWS-Users] Information on using Tool Bar

2008-01-07 Thread David Griffith
The control tab method to access toolbars works in 2003 versions of
Word
Excel
Access
PowerPoint
Outlook
Publisher
InfoPath
Project

I do not know whether this is the same in 2007 versions.

Its useful to know as the Jaws Insert F8 method does not always catch all
the toolbar options.

Unfortunately I have not found a non Microsoft application that follows this
convention yet .

Now, with Office, you can access toolbars by first opening the Office
programme's menu bar with alt, then do a control tab. If your PC
dings instead, it means no toolbars are showing. Next, you can tab
and shift tab to cycle through the buttons and what not, and do what
you would normally do when navigating dialogue boxes. Hope that helps.

Thanks. I never had difficulty with other USB external sound devices. I
simply went to control panel and selected them as my sound choice. The
problem here is this unit is not listed as an option for sound to go to.
This was the only response to date to my post. It seems to me I remember
someone or maybe a few folks on this list successfully using blue tooth
sound devices on their computer. Hope to hear from them. I will also check
with Radio Shack to day to see what's up

You will have to configure Jaws to use the USB sound device instead of the
standard on-board sound device. The USB device is not the same thing as
plugging a wireless headphone transmitter into the external speaker or
headphone socket of your computer sound card, it is it's own unique sound
device.

Just off the top I can't remember how to do that but there will probably be
lots of traffic on using Jaws with external sound cards in the archives.

I went to Radio Shack this weekend and asked if they had any blue tooth
technology to allow me to hear my computer through a blue tooth ear piece.
The salesman said yes and sold me two items. The first was some type
transmitter that plugs into the USB port on the computer and transmits the
signal. The second was an ear piece which supposedly works up to 300 feet
 from the transmitter.

I successfully installed, paired, and configured everything. According
to
the salesman the audio was supposed to come through this device and be
heard
in the ear piece. I get no sound. I went to the control panel figuring I
would need to select this as my sound choice (salesman said just turn down
main speakers and you would hear it) but it is not an option.

Anyone on here using blue tooth earpieces or headsets, speakers etc to
hear
their computer? I especially want JAWS to come through this

 thanks
 Al

Hi Vicki,

What I've done is looked in the system tray. You can access that by pressing
insert F11, or going onto the desktop and hitting shift tab. Once in the
Navigation area system tray or something to that effect, arrow around. If
battery status is in the system tray, it should be listed.

Hope this helps,

Vicki,

I don't think anything has changed between JAWS 8 and 9 - the keystroke
is still CapsLock + Shift + B - so unless something has changed on the
laptop, it should work the same. You'll need to have the laptop keyboard
layout selected in the Options dialogue before the keystroke will work.

 Vicki,

I don't think anything has changed between JAWS 8 and 9 - the keystroke
is still CapsLock + Shift + B - so unless something has changed on the
laptop, it should work the same. You'll need to have the laptop keyboard
layout selected in the Options dialogue before the keystroke will work.

If it is properly installed then it should show up in your control panel.
Otherwise look in your start-up folder under programmes. It should also show up
there.

I especially want JAWS to come through this

 thanks

Hi, I highly recommend calendar magic from
http://www.stokepoges.plus.com it is the best calendar program I have ever
used, it has alarm clock, reminders, and anything else you want a calendar
to have, including a feature called this is your life which will tell
 you
what happened on the day you were born, and other information about
significant things that have happened throughout your lifetime. And best
 of
 all, its free!

Also, if you're really into free and kind of cool, and have JAWS 9, the
Google calendar will work. It will take some getting used to at first,
 but it's
cool. You can have it send you text messages, if you have an accessible
phone. It will also send you emails at least twice on one reminder.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Blue Tooth Jaws

2008-01-07 Thread Paul Shallbetter
Are you sure that the new RS blue tooth device isn't conflicting with a
blue tooth transmitter already on board your computer
? My laptop has built-in Blue Tooth.

Just an idea.

Paul

At 08:59 PM 1/6/2008, you wrote:
You will have to configure Jaws to use the USB sound device instead of the
standard on-board sound device. The USB device is not the same thing as
plugging a wireless headphone transmitter into the external speaker or
headphone socket of your computer sound card, it is it's own unique sound
device.

Just off the top I can't remember how to do that but there will probably
be lots of traffic on using Jaws with external sound cards in the archives.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Blue Tooth Jaws

I went to Radio Shack this weekend and asked if they had any blue tooth
technology to allow me to hear my computer through a blue tooth ear piece.
The salesman said yes and sold me two items. The first was some type
transmitter that plugs into the USB port on the computer and transmits the
signal. The second was an ear piece which supposedly works up to 300 feet
  from the transmitter.

I successfully installed, paired, and configured everything. According to
the salesman the audio was supposed to come through this device and be
 heard
in the ear piece. I get no sound. I went to the control panel figuring I
would need to select this as my sound choice (salesman said just turn down
main speakers and you would hear it) but it is not an option.

Anyone on here using blue tooth earpieces or headsets, speakers etc to hear
their computer? I especially want JAWS to come through this

  thanks
  Al

[JAWS-Users] Advice on Jaws friendly graphics cards

2008-01-07 Thread Waqas Hussain
Greetings all,

I wonder if I could get some expert advice on the matter please. I am about
to purchase my HP XW4400PW403 ET work station with Intel core 2duo 2.4 ghz
processor,2048 MB RAM and Vista Business OS installed. HP allows you to
choose your own graphics card for this particular model. I shall be grateful
if someone could recommend a good quality Jaws friendly graphics card for my
new work station?

For information, I work as a Management Consultant and I am not really into
games or any such activity that may require very high quality graphics.

Re: [JAWS-Users] accessible reminder web sites and program

2008-01-07 Thread Paul Shallbetter

Hey all,

From the description on the website, it looks like Calendar Magic is
serious overkill. Frankly, I don't need to know what day it is under the
Tibetan calendar rolling eyes I also wonder how well it works with JAWS,
considering that there are numerous options for changing colors, etc.
within the software.

I have used the crude but effective Talking Toolbox from
http://www.braillesuperstore.com for months. It features numerous
reminder functions, alarm clocks and the like. No, it's not free, and I
seldom use any of the other tools in the box (basic word processor,
e-mail), but as a calendar I have not found anything easier to use. Just
my opinion.

Paul

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Advice on Jaws friendly graphics cards

Greetings all,

I wonder if I could get some expert advice on the matter please. I am about
to purchase my HP XW4400PW403 ET work station with Intel core 2duo 2.4 ghz
processor,2048 MB RAM and Vista Business OS installed. HP allows you to
choose your own graphics card for this particular model. I shall be grateful
if someone could recommend a good quality Jaws friendly graphics card for my
new work station?

For information, I work as a Management Consultant and I am not really into
games or any such activity that may require very high quality graphics.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Advice on Jaws friendly graphics cards

2008-01-07 Thread Rick Justice
Your best bet would be either Invidia, or AMD/ATI
It doesn't matter if you are a gamer or not,
buy a card with as much on-board memorey as your checkbook will allow.
256mb would be good, and 512mb would be excellant.
Make sure the card is Vista compliant, and supports the latest version of
Direct X.
This will allow for better performance with Jaws.

I believe so, you can just set 2 reminders for the same event, one a week

I've been using the 6channel6 website. They will allow reminders to

Also, if you're really into free and kind of cool, and have JAWS 9, the
Google calendar will work. It will take some getting used to at first,
 but it's
cool. You can have it send you text messages, if you have an accessible
phone. It will also send you emails at least twice on one reminder.

Hey all,

From the description on the website, it looks like Calendar Magic is
serious overkill. Frankly, I don't need to know what day it is under the
Tibetan calendar rolling eyes I also wonder how well it works with JAWS,
considering that there are numerous options for changing colors, etc.

I have used the crude but effective Talking Toolbox from

reminder functions, alarm clocks and the like. No, it's not free, and I
seldom use any of the other tools in the box (basic word processor,

my opinion.

used, it has alarm clock, reminders, and anything else you want a calendar
to have, including a feature called this is your life which will tell
  you
what happened on the day you were born, and other information about
significant things that have happened throughout your lifetime. And best
  of
  all, its free!

This was picked off another list, I present it here for your convenience.
I wish people would use spell checkers, but what do I want for nothing.

I've been using the 6channel6 website. They will allow reminders to
  emails
and phones. It is also free. The web address is.

Also, if you're really into free and kind of cool, and have JAWS 9, the
Google calendar will work. It will take some getting used to at first,
  but it's
cool. You can have it send you text messages, if you have an accessible
phone. It will also send you emails at least twice on one reminder.
