Re: [JAWS-Users] QuickBooks and Jaws

2008-01-09 Thread Kerryann Ifill
My office uses quickbooks for accounting purposes and I've dabbled with it
before. Jaws is not configured to work with it, but if you have patience it
is quite usable I found.

I used to put info in the accounts register, search for old cheques, track
bill payments, make journal entries the whole range of activities.

In fact, some years ago I used to use it for my personal banking, but I've
given up that in favour of money talks which is designed for the visually
impaired user.

 It doesn't.

I had a client who wanted to work with it, and I had to call FS to
find out, and they said it didn't work with JAWS. Quicken does,
 however.

2008-01-09 Thread Chris Hallsworth
Hi, Winamp won't play Real Media by default though. There is a plug
in, but I couldn't get it to work. I would therefore suggest you try
Real Alternative. This comes with an accessible media player, Media
Player Classic, which will play Real Media formats as well as the
traditional formats like MP3 and WAV. Hope that helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Real Player

2008-01-09 Thread Mark Driesenga
No, simply b/c Real Player uses it's own codec, and Winamp doesn't have that
particular codec built in. Winamp doesn't support it. Same with Windows
Media Player--Winamp doesn't support the .asx file type. The new Real
Player 11 actually is fantastic, btw. they finally have gotten around to
fixing that annoying volume issue where the volume, in older versions, was
tied directly to the system volume. It now is independent of everything
else. Mark

Re: [JAWS-Users] Real Player

2008-01-09 Thread Negoslav Sabev
Hello,

Below is an e-mail from another list with instructions how to play real
media files in winamp. I use this method myself.
HTH
Negoslav

Real Alternative and the Tara plugin will not allow you to play real Media
streams in Winamp. for streams, you need to use Media Player Classic which
is included with Real Alternative. with Real alternative installed, you
can, however, play .ra and .rm files that are on your hard drive using
winamp. The best part is that you don't even need to have the Tara plugin
installed to do it. In fact, you might as well uninstall Tara. to play
ra and .rm files on your hard drive in winamp, as long as Real alternative
is installed, go to the list of input plugins from the preferences window.
You want to arrow down to the Nullsoft Direct show decoder plugin. when
you click the configure button, you will see a list of extensions for the
plugin delimited by semicolons. Add .ra and .rm to the end of that list,

No, unfortunately, Winamp will not play Real Audio. However, there is a

Okay, David. You're getting two good FS posts in one day! Mark it on your

I highly and loudly commend the FS tech support guys there in Florida!!
They have always been courteous, friendly, helpful and willing to go the
extra mile whenever I've needed them! For the few times when they couldn't
solve my problem, it was understandable since it was a computer problem, not
a JAWS problem! I can't say enough about these tech support people, but
BRAVO from Arianna!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Real Player

2008-01-09 Thread Flor Lynch
Real Alternative will work for most, but not all, sites using Realplayer:
It will not work for those radio stations or sites (increasing in number)
that use their own embedded Real Audio plug-ins. For them, you need the
Real deal - the full RealPlayer (if you want Real audio, that is). (At
NPR, you still have the option of either using their own player or using the
full RealPlayer. Similar there with Windows media Player.) (It is similar
with Windows media Player: Media Classic can't play on sites that use own
embeddded Windows Media.)

Re: [JAWS-Users] Real Player

2008-01-09 Thread Flor Lynch
Most users will not have problems if they have, and get used to using, all
three of the main audio players - Winamp, Windows Media Player, and
RealPlayer - in their full, unadulterated versions. there are stations
using their own embedded players out there, as I have indicated, that
cross-player plug-ins are often not able to handle.

2008-01-09 Thread David Ferrin
Here's an email from several years ago I got off another list, but it should
still be good. I can place the files up on the server if anybody is
interested.
**
this really does work. I just set it up and it even works with
mlb.com. Completely uninstall Real Player or RealOne. Once it is
uninstalled go to your Program Files folder and delete the real folder so
it is completely gone. Restart your system. Then download this file from
the following link
http://shaohao.vip.sina.com/RealCodecs11.zip
This is about a 7.5MB file so be patient. Once the download is finished
unzip the file and run the executable. This will install every possible
plugin that realOne uses. Then simply install the Tara plugin for Winamp
which can be downloaded right from the W4TB site. Yes, I know this isn't
the latest version of Tara, but I have found bugs in the latest one so I
don't use that one. Once you have both programs installed simply go into
winamp, hit control+p for preferences, F for file types, then tab over to
the select button and press the spacebar, then tab back over to the close
button and press space on that and you are done. This is absolutely
awesome. I can listen to mlb games now without that bloated annoying
RealOne player on my system.

Real Alternative and the Tara plugin will not allow you to play real Media
streams in Winamp. for streams, you need to use Media Player Classic
which
is included with Real Alternative. with Real alternative installed, you
can, however, play .ra and .rm files that are on your hard drive using
Add .ra and .rm to the end of that list,
being careful to stay with the syntax of the rest of the list, and you're
all set.

Hi, Winamp won't play Real Media by default though. There is a plug
in, but I couldn't get it to work. I would therefore suggest you try
Real Alternative. This comes with an accessible media player, Media
Player Classic, which will play Real Media formats as well as the
traditional formats like MP3 and WAV. Hope that helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Real Player

2008-01-09 Thread Baracco, Andrew W
I have used Real Player for at least 10 years, since the days when it
was called Real Audio. I have had no problems with it. I have often
read that it messes with people's computers, but I have not experienced
these issues. When you install it, you can choose which components load
at startup, which file types you want it to play, etc. It can indeed
take over control of your audio and video if you let it, but you don't
have to let it. There is also a Preferences menu that will allow you to
change options at any time. You certainly may choose to use a different
program, but that's your choice, as it is with anything, but you
shouldn't be discouraged from using it because of fear.

 Hi Casey,
Real Player from Real Networks works similar to Windows Media Player,
except that, in addition to Windows Media files, it plays its own Real

audio/video files. JAWS Help has a link for Real Player under Popular

 Applications section.
 I, too, recommend using Winamp.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Bluetooth Keyboards and Jaws

Traditionally the only issue with any keyboard is if it employs some sort of
software to allow it to have other functions above and beyond the normal
such as launching the internet ETC. So if it does not require such software

this really does work.

Real Alternative and the Tara plugin will not allow you to play real
Media
streams in Winamp. for streams, you need to use Media Player Classic
which
is included with Real Alternative. with Real alternative installed, you
can, however, play .ra and .rm files that are on your hard drive using
winamp. The best part is that you don't even need to have the Tara
plugin
installed to do it. In fact, you might as well uninstall Tara. to play
ra and .rm files on your hard drive in winamp, as long as Real
alternative
is installed, go to the list of input plugins from the preferences
window.
You want to arrow down to the Nullsoft Direct show decoder plugin. when
you click the configure button, you will see a list of extensions for the
plugin delimited by semicolons. Add .ra and .rm to the end of that list,
being careful to stay with the syntax of the rest of the list, and you're

OK so there's so much stuff already up on the server that my memory can't
hold it all at the same time. My point is first download the
WinampPlugins.zip file. In there you will find the real codex file I
mentioned in my earlier post along with the Tara plugging it requires if you
want winamp to play real audio files without having real player or it's
alternative installed. There's over a gig byte of stuff up there so it's

 Hi Andy and Mark.
I've read most of this exchange and agree one hundred per cent with both
 of
you. Real player is a fine player and one of the very few which has an
accessable equallizer. In fact, I purchased Real player plus and the
 sound
is phenomenal. As Andy said, you can customize it through preference
settings and controls so it won't take over your audio. Radio stations
 from
all over the world have web streams which you can use Real player with for
listening. I find real player works well with Jaws and it is very easy to
 use.

Hi, try c:\program data\freedom
scientific\jaws\version\settings\enu, where c: is the drive where
Windows Vista is installed, and version is the actual JAWS version,

Okay, David. You're getting two good FS posts in one day! Mark it on

I highly and loudly commend the FS tech support guys there in Florida!!
They have always been courteous, friendly, helpful and willing to go the
extra mile whenever I've needed them! For the few times when they
couldn't solve my problem, it was understandable since it was a computer
problem, not a JAWS problem! I can't say enough about these tech
support people, but BRAVO from Arianna!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Hebrew synthesizer

2008-01-09 Thread Aran_A

Hi Khan,

You can buy Hebrew speech software through Freedom Scientific.

There are dealers in Israel, so if you friend lives in Israel, I can try to
find the email and/or the phone of the people that sell the speech software,
that more likely includes the speech synthesizer. Just send me an email,
and I forward you the information that I have.

You probably can buy the Hebrew software at other countries, but I was
referred to the dealer in Israel, and it was convenient to me, because it
was just before I visited Israel 19 months ago.

I did not buy the Hebrew speech software and synthesizer, because I was very
short on money...

Best wishes,
   Aran
