Re: [JAWS-Users] Query Free rice

2008-02-20 Thread Flor Lynch
Jewel,

Unfortunately, with that version of JAWS, you may not be able to get the
pronunciation to play. (It is a 'clickable graphic'. In short, perhaps not
a standard clickable link as recognized by earlier versions of JAWS. You
could however try turning on all graphics using the insert+5 keys, that
number 5, to attempt to enable it?. (There was also a graphics verbosity -
insert-v, the down-arrow or the letter g.) With conntemporary versions of
JAWS, when you hit left-mouse once on the 'clickable graphic pronounce', The
word is spoken in a human voice. Nice site and nice game.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Query Free rice

The freerice.com site has, from time to time, new features added to it, the
latest of which is pronunciation. I imagine that the correct pronunciation
of the, sometimes, very strange words that appear on the site is given in
foenetics. The choices of words can be clicked on, but this does not seem
to be so with the pronounce feature. Jaws just says: graphics pronounce
. To give Jaws the credit it deserves, it, generally, makes a very good
fist of getting the correct pronunciation, but sometimes, it does get a
little confused, especially if the word is from a language other than
standard english and I cannot blame it for that!
Back to graphics pronounce I tried finding it by turning on the jaws
cursor, but as I am not very adept at using the jaws cursor, I could not
find out how to pronounce the word.
Any suggestions please!

Re: [JAWS-Users] keynote sa with jaws

2008-02-20 Thread Chris Doris
Which version of jaws are you using? I noticed that jaws 8.0
sometimes reads some gibberish with my Keynote SA. (I am using the
old original Keynote SA synthesizer.) For some reason, jaws 7.1, the
version that introduced the native driver for the Keynote SA sytnhs,
does not have that problem.

If you still have jaws 7.1 on your system, make a backup of your jaws
8.0 driver for your keynote and then replace the drivers in jaws 8.0
with the ones from 7.1 and see if the problem goes away.

I have not tried jaws 9.0 and do not know if it has the same problem
with the driver that 8.0 did.

if you are using a version older than jaws 7.1, you will need to get
the jaws driver for your keynote from the humanware support pages i believe.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Repairing internet explorer 7

2008-02-20 Thread Flor Lynch
To fix the no links problem, get outside the toolbars command bar. You can
usually do this by pressing shift+f6 or f6. If doing this once doesn't
restore you to the main page, do it again. See if you have any updates left
to JAWS8.

Hi Linda!

Yes. Go in explorer to the menu, then tools, then settings.
On the programs tab, you should hear:
websettings restore.
press it, allow all settings restore.
Go to advanced tab, press restore to default button.
then press aply, then ok button.
God bless!

2008-02-20 Thread graham smith
Hi

I cannot get winamp agent back and when I minimise everything Winamp is not in
my Task bar and Alt Tabbing does not get me back into Winamp, it is as if
Winamp is not loaded.

It is in my system tray.

I have ripped an album to my system and there are no details How can I get
Winamp to fill in the details of an Unknown album from the Internet? I am sure
the album is out there it is a very popular one.

How can I delete things from My View in the Winamp Library?

 Hello everyone.

I'm writing a script for an instant messaging application that is supposed
to read the text in the chat display window automatically. It reads it
just fine using the algorithm I chose. It reads the text just fine 4
times. This is obviously unacceptable. Can anyone here shed some light
on why this happens and what I can do about it? This is for PalTalk. I
put the following code within the NewTextEvent function. MS1 is a global
 string variable.

 If myControl == ID_Display then

 let MS1 = StringSegment (GetTextInWindow (HWND), \n, -1)

 EndIf

Hi,

The settings for windows 98 and xp are a little different. You can get both
settings list from jfwlite.com and there is a link for programs. I think it

The authorization is there just fine. My question is, though, do I need to
re-configure the start menu, task bar, yada-yada, the way a person does with
XP.

I will be working on a windows 2000 computer later in the week. What
kinds of parameters should be reset to accommodate JAWS 6 and Windows
2000? Do the configuration settings for Windows XP apply to 2000?

thanks,

Re: [JAWS-Users] quadruple speak on a script

2008-02-20 Thread Tony Hernandez
Hi Lisa.

The chat is JAWS friendly with scripting. Unfortunately the dialog for
setup preferences isn't, so you have to move around it with the jaws cursor
after you choose a category to adjust from the list box. With the scripts,
it does ok in most other places. Now, if I could just get it to knock off
this quadruple speaking, I could use the improved chat reading algorithm,
instead of the old one I've been using. Come to think of it, if this new
one makes it speak the same thing 4 times, then I suppose it's not really
improved. LOL. It could be better if the developers would pay attention to
such matters, but as it stands now, it works ok, and it is capable of being
scripted well enough to read the incoming chat messages.

I have not tried jaws 9.0 and do not know if it has the same problem
with the driver that 8.0 did.

if you are using a version older than jaws 7.1, you will need to get
the jaws driver for your keynote from the humanware support pages i
 believe.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Query Free rice

2008-02-20 Thread Jewel Blanch
Thanks Flor! I will try your suggestions. It will not be long before I say
good bye to the dear
old dinosaur: 98 and make the leap to XP Home.
My donated grain count on free rice is 9. Time permitting, I try to do
1000 grains a day.
Until a while back, the best vocab level you could achieve, no matter how many
words you got right
was 50, but that level has been raised now, but so has the range of words and
their difficulty and
obscurity. My best level, to date, is 54, but one mistake and you slip back a
level, and, it takes
more than one correct word to regain it.
I enjoy pitting my wits against the site.
I spoke of jaws making a pretty good fist of pronunciation, with not many
exceptions, but just wait
until the site gives you the french word for an armchair! I should switch
language to french and
see what it makes of the pronunciation of fauteuil then!

Blanch, [or should that be Blanche grin] I've heard Eloquence' French
language and, even to a non-native language student, the French sounds not
good! (I contrast that with how I find the Italian Eloquence pronunciation
of Italian, not perfect but pretty good.) That's where the human
pronunciation helps, to be sure. I enjoyed my first hour or two at the site
today, and am at level 49! I use an Apollo 2 synthesizer with JAWS, which
is british speech.
