Re: [JAWS-Users] looking for a software, where can I find

Hi, try www.hartgen.org. Hope that helps.

 Hi Carla,

I uploaded it for another list I'm on, and I've included the link to
 download it from send space.

You can download the Creative Media Light software at the following link:

 http://www.sendspace.com/file/f557p0

You can also get the scripts for the software at Brian's site, but I don't
know the exact address right now.

If you still need it, I'll look into it tomorrow for you.

After you use the Scan your computer button, the subsequent dialog box
has
a tree view for choosing which drives should be scanned. use the tab key
to
move to the tree view. Use the up and down arrow keys to make sure only
the
hard drives are checked. If the floppy drive or CD-ROM drive choices are
checked and there are no disks in those drives then you might get an error
message letting you know that no disks are in the drives. This might not
be
the problem but check it out to make sure.

Rich, I hope you get an answer since the same thing happens to me. If

[JAWS-Users] recording problems on my hp laptop with vindows vista

2008-03-25 Thread dinesh thole
hello to all.
I am having an hp dv6516tx notebook pc with windows vista home premium.
it has a realtek high definition audio sound card.
my problem is that, when ever I am recording anything from a internal or
external microphone, the recording quality is not good, there is lots of noise,
and the recorded voice's volume is low and the unwanted noise is high.
I am having this problem since the purchase of the notebook.
after installing the latest audio drivers from the hp website the quality
improved a little bit, but still not so good.
I tried all the various settings in the realtek high definition audio, in
control panel.
I also got a new high quality microphone.
is anybody having the same problem with the same sound card? or do I need to
take my laptop to the service center?
please help me soon.
thanking you all.
warm regards.

Hi, David, and list!

I am glad, to tell you, that it are good programms, to protect your PC.
The one is avira antivir edition personal classic.
You can download it from
www.avira.com
It is the best, It removed for me lots of viruses.
You can subscribe on a newsletter, they say, what they updated.
Avira is the best. I use it, and I am a glad user of that.
And next to avira, it is recommended, to use superantispyware professional.
And last, a good spam washer, the spam fighter, and you are protected from
all the warms.
If your system is big, you can have spybot search and destroy, or kerio
personal firewall.
But it does not needed for a small system, it only hangs the system on.
God bless!

So it's definitely confirmed that AVG version 8 is out of the question? In
that case I need to find another option in the next 4 months before my

Oh man, that is going to be a problem for me come May when my current Norton
runs out..
Now I noticed when I purchased this program, Spam Fighter that they offered
a antivirus program as well as spyware protection, but the downside is that
the program isn't real screen reader friendly. It's duable, but at times I
wish I didn't have to go to all the hassle to try to use the menus.
I wonder if we contacted them and ask them like add aware is suppose to be
making their new program accessible. I received an email from the spam
fighter group welcoming me to the program and at that time I did explain my
situation in detail, but haven't heard anything back..

I am glad, to tell you, that it are good programms, to protect your
 PC.
The one is avira antivir edition personal classic.
 You can download it from
 www.avira.com
It is the best, It removed for me lots of viruses.
You can subscribe on a newsletter, they say, what they updated.
Avira is the best. I use it, and I am a glad user of that.
And next to avira, it is recommended, to use superantispyware
 professional.
And last, a good spam washer, the spam fighter, and you are protected
 from
 all the warms.
If your system is big, you can have spybot search and destroy, or kerio
 personal firewall.
But it does not needed for a small system, it only hangs the system on.
 God bless!

2008-03-25 Thread David Ferrin
I'm using the paid version of their security package. In fact I agree that
letting them know of our concerns is a good idea at least in my opinion.
Think about it if you will, I operate no less than 3 fairly high traffic
mailing lists totaling over 700 people all of them being potential customers
of AVG. So my thinking is that if everybody concerned mention the amount of
people we have contact with through this and other forums that just might
get their attention. Consider it if you will folks. Mean while just in case
it's time to start looking for an alternative to my current security system,
and I just spent all of that time doing the tutorial.

So if I am following this thread correctly AVG 8 is no longer accessible. If
memory serves Norton hasn't been accessible for a few years already. Nod 32
has stopped being usable by screen readers, and MacAfee hasn't been an issue
for a long time. So the question is what are we supposed to do in order to
protect ourselves from the nasty people of the world. Can I stay with AVG
7.5 or are they going to try and force me to upgrade? There is also this
program called something like CA or near to that name, any ideas on that out
there?

Re: [JAWS-Users] recording problems on my hp laptop with vindows vista

2008-03-25 Thread Victor Gouveia
Hi Dinesh,

Have you turned off microphone boost in the sound properties?

This can often be the source of most external sound problems.

I would also confirm that the sound you are recording from is indeed the
microphone you have plugged in, and not some other microphone source.

An example I can illustrate is that I had an external microphone plugged
into my laptop one time, and was getting truly awful sound being recorded.

When I finally checked the sound source, it turned out that the microphone I
was using was the microphone that was on a digital camera I had plugged into
the USB port while I was downloading pictures from the camera.

Make sure you are recording with the line in, and not the microphone, and
make sure that you do a proper test of your microphone, and go to any
advanced properties where you see those particular buttons.

These properties can be found in your control panel, under sounds and audio
devices.

This is a multi-tab dialog box, and there are various tabs for speakers,
recording and stuff like that.

Let us know if this helps you or not, and if not, I'll try to do a more
in-depth message on how to check your audio settings.

Victor

Marilyn,
I'm afraid they don't offer tech support to their free users - they
specifically say this on the Web site: [What you Get (with the free
version) What you do not get.] You have to be a paying customer to
qualify for that. Now, it is possible athat something else or some other
contact avenue can be pursued. It is, after all, the developers - not the
tech support people - who could be called on this. It's also possible that
others here will know more and better than I.

I also used AVG and I don't have problem, once it is setup to update at your
desired time, it just comes to update automatically and you don't need to do
anything.
Only, you need to stop what you are doing when AVG is updating because it
mess it up.
Anyway, JAWS is acnowledging when AVG is on!

[JAWS-Users] AVG internet security

2008-03-25 Thread David Ferrin
Here's what I just wrote to the nice people at grisoft, with luck I'll receive
an answer in the near future.
David Ferrin
 www.jaws-users.com

Hello, I am a current internet security 7.5 customer and here is my license to
prove it.

You didn't really think I would leave my license in here now did you?

I'm contacting you to enquire if the current version of internet security is
going to continue or be phased out instead. I use a screen reader and am told
that your version 8 software is not accessible with my software like the
version I am currently using. So if this program is going to be continued I
will renew my license for another 2 years in July, if not then I will need to
search for another security alternative to protect my computer. This discussion
has been raised on the mailing list I manage that consists of over 500 people
like myself with similar needs of assistive technology. I like what I have
right now, but like I said if it is going to go away I need to know that so I
can make my fellow screen reader users aware of it as well.

It's not Grisoft anymore. The URL is now

The street address of the headquarters is at the top of the home page. I

I started out using Windows live one care when it first came out. It wasn't
very accessible but it was so automatic I didn't have to interact with it
very much. Then one day, six months into my year subscription, it crashed

got rid of what was left on my computer.

Re: [JAWS-Users] DVD software?

2008-03-25 Thread Brian Lee
Hi Roger,

If you have Vista Home premium then you can use Windows DVD Maker. It is
listed in the program groups under All programs. I have found it very JAWS
friendly and it has a very simple interface. I have created and burned a
DVD using Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 deluxe, but it was not very JAWS
friendly at all. I don't know about the basic version of Roxio Creator.

 David Ferrin

Hello, I am a current internet security 7.5 customer and here is my
 license to prove it.

You didn't really think I would leave my license in here now did you?

I'm contacting you to enquire if the current version of internet security
is going to continue or be phased out instead. I use a screen reader and
am told that your version 8 software is not accessible with my software
like the version I am currently using. So if this program is going to be
continued I will renew my license for another 2 years in July, if not then
I will need to search for another security alternative to protect my
computer. This discussion has been raised on the mailing list I manage
that consists of over 500 people like myself with similar needs of
assistive technology. I like what I have right now, but like I said if it
is going to go away I need to know that so I can make my fellow screen
reader users aware of it as well.

So if I am following this thread correctly AVG 8 is no longer accessible.
If memory serves Norton hasn't been accessible for a few years already.
Nod 32 has stopped being usable by screen readers, and MacAfee hasn't been
an issue for a long time. So the question is what are we supposed to do in

Re: [JAWS-Users] recording problems on my hp laptop with vindows vista

2008-03-25 Thread Derek Roberts
Hi, I have a realtek card and had a similar problem. It picked up my knock
(when banging the mic on the deks to see if it could pick up anything) but
not my talk! ok, bad joke. Anyway, go to the system tray by pressing jaws
key f11 and select realtek hd audio manager. you will get a context menu,
select sound manager. Press shift tab several times and you should get a
list of tabs. Select your microphone (it may have graphics in front of the
text) and press tab several times until you get to recording volume. the
first slider is a balance slider, make sure it is set to 50% and hit tab.
Set this slider to 100 and hit tab again. you should get a mic boost button,
press enter and you will get a slider. Again make sure it's at 100 and hit
enter. You may now close the sound manager. If the sound manager isn't in
your system tray, you can also find it in control panel.

HTH!

Subject: [JAWS-Users] recording problems on my hp laptop with vindows vista

 hello to all.
I am having an hp dv6516tx notebook pc with windows vista home premium.
it has a realtek high definition audio sound card.
my problem is that, when ever I am recording anything from a internal or
external microphone, the recording quality is not good, there is lots of
noise, and the recorded voice's volume is low and the unwanted noise is
 high.
I am having this problem since the purchase of the notebook.
after installing the latest audio drivers from the hp website the quality
improved a little bit, but still not so good.
I tried all the various settings in the realtek high definition audio, in
 control panel.
I also got a new high quality microphone.
is anybody having the same problem with the same sound card? or do I need
to take my laptop to the service center?
 please help me soon.
 thanking you all.
 warm regards.

Yesterday evening, I installed avg 8 and noticed that it was crashing
 every
time the user interface comes up. I am assuming that others have noticed
this as well. Is there a way around this silliness?

Re: [JAWS-Users] security software and anti virus programs

2008-03-25 Thread Carlene Knight
I wonder if we could contact Grisoft, or if they would even care. I've had
really good luck with AVG, and so far they haven't made us upgrade. I'm still
getting the updates daily, so hopefully that will continue. Does AVG run with
JAWS, or is it the message center that's inaccessible? The reason I'm asking
this question is that my husband is sighted, but everything is already set up to
run.

And next to avira, it is recommended, to use superantispyware
 professional.
And last, a good spam washer, the spam fighter, and you are protected from
 all the warms.
If your system is big, you can have spybot search and destroy, or kerio
 personal firewall.
But it does not needed for a small system, it only hangs the system on.
 God bless!

hai victor, you have understood my problem very well.

I have checked all the settings in the realtek audio manager.
hey but you mentioned about disabling the microphone boost option, will this
not make the recorded volume very low? that is after I record anything, the
playback sound will be very low?
please let me know soon.
thanking you.

When I finally checked the sound source, it turned out that the microphone
 I
was using was the microphone that was on a digital camera I had plugged
 into
the USB port while I was downloading pictures from the camera.

Make sure you are recording with the line in, and not the microphone, and
make sure that you do a proper test of your microphone, and go to any
advanced properties where you see those particular buttons.

These properties can be found in your control panel, under sounds and
 audio
 devices.

This is a multi-tab dialog box, and there are various tabs for speakers,
 recording and stuff like that.

Let us know if this helps you or not, and if not, I'll try to do a more
in-depth message on how to check your audio settings.

 Victor

Hi, I have a realtek card and had a similar problem. It picked up my knock
(when banging the mic on the deks to see if it could pick up anything) but
not my talk! ok, bad joke. Anyway, go to the system tray by pressing jaws
key f11 and select realtek hd audio manager. you will get a context menu,
select sound manager. Press shift tab several times and you should get a
list of tabs. Select your microphone (it may have graphics in front of the
text) and press tab several times until you get to recording volume. the
first slider is a balance slider, make sure it is set to 50% and hit tab.
Set this slider to 100 and hit tab again. you should get a mic boost
 button,
press enter and you will get a slider. Again make sure it's at 100 and hit
enter. You may now close the sound manager. If the sound manager isn't in
your system tray, you can also find it in control panel.

 HTH!

 hello to all.

I also got a new high quality microphone.
is anybody having the same problem with the same sound card? or do I need
