Hey Denny,
I like Susan, but I tried to find out how to get her on my computer.
How much does she cost, and how do you download her?

Re: [JAWS-Users] no longer listing vista gadgets in Jaws task list

2008-05-13 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Stuart,

If you are referring to the sidebar gadgets then just type "sidebar" without
the quotes in the start menu's edit box. Press enter when you hear "Windows
sidebar." The sidebar icon will then be in the notification area.

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] no longer listing vista gadgets in Jaws task list

2008-05-13 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Mark,

In Vista, there is a checkbox for showing power status in the notification
area.

1. Press Windows key and type in the word "taskbar" without the quotes.
2. Press enter on the "taskbar and start menu options" result.
3. Use CTRL-Tab to move to the "notification area" page tab of the dialog.
4. Use tab key to move to the "power" checkbox and press spacebar to check
it.
5. Use tab key to the OK button and press enter.

Removing the checkbox from the "hide inactive icons" does not include the
power status. There is a checkbox specific for showing the power status in
the same page of the taskbar and startup menu dialog.

Take care.

immediately pres alt tab. After about a second, press alt tab to get to the
AVG interface. It works great from there.

one or two reports from users who tried it but didn't resolve their

I was reading some reviews of anti-virus programs at this site:
http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/
They put Avast down at number 13, which is a bit worrying to me. I don't
know who published the reviews and how reliable they are, but they list
Kaspersky as their second choice, and a friend of mine has found it
especially good at protecting against web pages that do phishing, and other
nasty things.

Does anyone use Kaspersky with JAWS? Is it workable?

I don't think there's a free version of it.

Sure. I'm using JAWS 9.0.2152. So far I've been able to run scans, change

  I really recommend AVG 8.

Hi
The power options in control panel worked like a charm. I did have to
use the JAWS cursor to click the options but other than that I have my power
icon back and customized my task list perfectly. Thanks!

 Hi Stuart,
Personally, I believe it is an issue with vista. When I did my up

 get
it back either. I am open to ideas though. May be some on the list can
 help
 the both of us.

He said you can still download the version 7.50 up till June. As I have
 to
do that in order to ativate the paid version so I called them to
 inquire
regarding that matter and asked them regarding the rest of it for
 screen
readers. The man I spoke to seemed very aware of the issue with screen
readers and that AVG is doing all to resolve that issue hopefully by
12/31/08 this is for version 8.

But if you want to still get the version 7.50 you can but it will only
 be
available till June and it will only be supported if it's the paid
 version.

Hi, there are both pay and free versions of AVG 8, the pay version is called
internet security and has extra stuff like firewall. The free version has
anti virus, antispyware, the security toolbar, and link scanner.

Re: [JAWS-Users] AVG Update

2008-05-13 Thread Derek Roberts
Sure. I'm using JAWS 9.0.2152. So far I've been able to run scans, change
settings, and heal things with the resident tshield alerts.

I really recommend AVG 8.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and accessible software

2008-05-13 Thread David Griffith
Absolutely right.

Sonic Siren is more flexible however.
For example if you have a directory of files but do not want to listen to
all of them simply double clicking on a file halfway through the explorer
directory listing will result in Sonic Siren starting from that file and
continuing to the end of the directory.

I know of no other MP3 player that has this feature. Be happy to learn if
there is one.

Regards

Hi, I think Winamp does this as well. Try right clicking a folder and choose
Play in Winamp from the context menu. Hope that helps.

Mickyfyn,

Versions of Lotus Notes prior to version 5 were largely inaccessible.
However, version 5 and later are far more accessible. Jaws ships with
scripts for Lotus Notes.

  Hi,

Another way is to go into the layout menu, enter l i think on a bt, if
that
doesn't work try space with dots 2-3-4-6 and select layout. There should
be
indent and paragraph options there. Also check out presentation style,
also
in the format menu. Sorry I don't know the qt keystroke, I'm using my pc
with the USB keyboard for this message.

I haven't used Jaws with lotus notes for about five years, but there used to
be scripts which shipped with jaws.

[JAWS-Users] memo to the list

2008-05-13 Thread David Ferrin
I have been remiss in posting this so it's time to make up for that oversight
on my part.

First of all often times folks contact the moderators for help regarding their
subscription which in itself is perfectly fine once all other avenues have been
explored such as the audio tutorial I did regarding the mailman program. What
needs to be kept in mind is that when you ask for help please indicate clearly
which list you are referring to. It is for the most part a better practice to
use the contact forms on the main page as they will reach all of us at the same
time which will improve your chances for prompt help regarding what ever it is
you need. Remember I personally maintain ownership status on no less than 3
separate mailing lists and as a result might not know which list it is you're
asking about, so please be clear.

Also please remember to keep the subject lines indicative of what ever the
message that is contained in your email so people won't be deleting your
message thinking it doesn't interest them when in fact it might just be
something they could help you with.

Remember we do this as a hobby because it's something that my team all believe
is worth doing, and we will continue so long as we feel people are benefiting
from the experience. Personally when I see somebody who started out on here
asking for help on each and every little thing and then all of a sudden that
same person starts contributing by helping other people with their particular
problems I say to myself this is why I started this project.

I thank those of you who have helped make this a success and for your continued
contributions in what ever form they might happen to be.

I changed the settings so that all the icons are showing in the system

another place to view power levels?

Derek,

Was this the free or professional version? Are you only talking the
antivirus program or internet security package? And if I understand you
correctly you are saying the interface is JAWS accessible and friendly to
one with no vision?

thanks

Hi, I think Winamp does this as well. Try right clicking a folder and choose
Play in Winamp from the context menu. Hope that helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] A question about AVG

2008-05-13 Thread aiden gardiner
hi kathy,

Avast home edition works fine with vista. One of my sighted friends
installed it on his vista machine, and it worked as it should. When you
install it, make sure your logged on to an acount with local administrator
privilages, and that you answer any security prompts correctly, such as UAC
dialogues.

Hope this helps,

Aiden

Does Avast work with Vista. I tried to load it twice and it did not load
correctly. I also noticed that when I was installing it seemed to take a
while for it to install. Does this sound right?

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and accessible software

2008-05-13 Thread David Griffith
An alternative approach is to use Cdex to rip your books.
This can automatically make a play list of the files you rip. You do not
then have to join the files to have continuous play and you retain the
benefits of easy navigation.

Personally I use an old free program called Sonic Siren to play these sorts
of files. This has the fantastic feature which I have never found in more
modern software players of assuming that the directory you are playing a
file from is the play list. That is if you play a file in a directory it
will by default continue to play the rest of the file in the directory. This
means that by and large never have to bother with play lists. I simply use
windows explorer to navigate to a directory and play a file from there. Very
accessible.

As it is old software it sometimes struggles with modern DRM material but
most of the stuff I play is in basic MP3 anyway. The other drawback is that
the slider for navigating within an MP3 file is not accessible. Apart from
that it is fine with normal menus.

instead of several tracks so I can read it. Are any software that will work
with jaws 9?

Kind Regard

We called AVG today and was told that by December 31, they hope to have
 a
fix for version 8 regarding users with screen readers.
In the meantime, they said version 7.50 the paid version will still be
 supported.

correctly you are saying the interface is JAWS accessible and friendly to

Re: [JAWS-Users] XP, and Service pack 3

Mark
