Hi, try maximizing the current window with alt space, x. This is in fact
normal behaviour, and may be attributed to the fact that the taskbar is
always on top, which is the default setting. Hope that helps.

 Hello,

I used to be able to read the status line with insert-pagedown; recently
however and for reasons I cannot figure out, the insert-pagedown
 combination
reads the start menu. when I press the key combination now I hear:
start JAWS inbox file-name filename filename 9:37 p.m.
(filename refers to the names of currently open files.

How can I fix this to get Jaws to work properly as before? I am using JAWS
 8
with windows XP and Office 2000.

 Thanks,

Re: [JAWS-Users] avast question

2008-05-22 Thread Brian Lee
Hi Eileen,

The inbound and outbound mail is automatically being scanned by Avast. I
have given a link to their web site where they discuss technical aspects of
their program. After the link, I have shown just a few paragraphs of
information from their page.

http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-free-home-antivirus-antispyware.html

Standard resident protection
Resident protection (the real-time protection of the operating system), is
one of the most important parts of an antivirus program today. Avast!
features a powerful resident module that is able to detect a virus before it
has any chance to infect your computer.

Avast! Home Edition contains resident protection of the computer file system
and a resident module for e-mails and news.

File system protection ensures that no virus will be started on the
computer. It offers a wide range of settings, such as the possibility to
specify that files will be scanned during copying, or that the scanning will
include files with given set of extensions only.

E-mail/News protection consists of two independent modules; first, there is
a generic scanner working on the SMTP/POP3/IMAP4/NNTP protocol level. It is
capable of protecting any existing e-mail client that uses these protocols.
Second, there is a special plugin for MS Outlook only; the mail scanning is
completely transparent, requiring no special settings.

A new feature of version 4 is heuristic analysis of e-mail scanners. This
feature can protect against new, unknown viruses and worms that are not
possible to detect by the usual means. The heuristic module performs a
thorough investigation of every e-mail message and watches for suspicious
signs, that might announce virus presence. When the number of those signs
exceeds a user-defined level, the message is considered dangerous and the
user is warned.

P2P and IM Shields
Avast features a module for the protection of IM (Instant Messaging, chat)
programs, and a module for the protection of P2P (peer-to-peer) programs.
The list of supported IM and P2P programs is extensive with more than 30
programs currently supported.

While chat itself would not impose any serious security risks in terms of
viruses, today's IM applications are far from being just chatting tools:
most of them support more or less sophisticated file sharing methods - which
may quite easily lead to virus infections, if not properly monitored.

The P2P protection module doesn't need much explanation - on today's P2P
networks (such as Kazaa) there are thousands of infected files, and an
effective protection is a must.

Take care and have a great day!

 Hello Eileen,

 1. Bring up the system tray with Insert-F11.
 2. Use down arrow to move to the Avast On-access scanner choice and then
use tab key to move to the right mouse button choice and press enter.
 3. use the up arrow key to move to the on access protection control
 choice and press enter.
 4. You will find a list of running scanners. use down arrow to move to
 the
one relevant to Internet Mail or for Outlook and use tab key to move to
 the
 details button and press enter.
 5. use the tab key and the JAWS cursor to get information in the details
but you will notice that incoming and outgoing for POP3, IMAP, etc. are
 automatically checked for scanning.

There is a customize button in the dialog where the list of scanners is
shown, and there is also a second details button in the details screen

 Hi Lisa,

Yes, CCleaner works very well with JAWS 9. The program is set up in a
standard dialog box structure where you can use the tab key and shift-tab
 to
move forward and backward through a dialog box. You can also use Alt key
with the underlined letter of a control to activate it so that you don't
have to tab to the control and press spacebar or enter. For example,
 Alt-R
activates the Run button, which starts the scanning and removal process
for the page of the dialog box that is active, which is the Windows page
when you first start the program. When you first use the program and
 press
Alt-R a child dialog box will appear with the OK button in focus. If you
use the tab key you can move to a checkbox for telling the program not to
show this confirmation box, and check it by pressing spacebar. After
checking the box tab to the OK button and press spacebar.JAWS will
announce the percentage of completion as the program scans and removes
items, but quite often after hearing 100 percent scanning and removal
 will
begin for another area of the computer, so you should wait a few seconds
after hearing JAWS say 100 percent to see if it starts announcing
 percentage
progress again. If you route the JAWS cursor to the PC cursor, do a page
up, and use down arrow to the line under where the Windows tab and
applications tab are shown, you will hear whether or not cleaning is
complete. This might vary a little on different systems, but the
 scanning
complete notice should be given on a line not far under the page tabs.

After you have made PC cursor active again you can use tab or shift tab
 to
move to where JAWS says Windows tab and use right arrow to move to the
Applications page tab. Use Alt-R again to run the program in this page.

Before running the program you probably want to set the program to only
remove the types of items you want removed. After opening the program
 and
before invoking the run button, use Shift-tab to move to the tree view
 of
choices. If you use the shift-tab then you will find the tree view of
choices after you hear the page tabs announced. Use down arrow in the
 tree
view and check or uncheck items using the spacebar. For example, if you
don't want all cookies removed then be sure to uncheck the cookies
 choice.
You can always remove tracking cookies with a different program such as
 Super Anti-
Spyware or Ad-Aware. Keep using down arrow through the choices in the
 tree
view and use spacebar to check or uncheck items. the checkmark means
 that
those types of items will be removed, if not checked then those items
 will
be left alone. I think you can feel pretty comfortable with the default
settings, although if you don't want the recycle bin emptied then you
 might
uncheck that item, or if you don't want auto complete form history
 deleted
then you can uncheck that box, etc. The only one I have unchecked in the
Internet Explorer list of items is the cookies choice, as I only want
 tracking cookies removed.

If you use tab key to move to the page tabs and right arrow to the
applications tab, you can then use shift-tab to move back to the tree
 view
and find a list of programs that have cached temporary files that you can
remove. If you want to uncheck any of these choices then use down arrow
 and
uncheck the box, but I think that you probably will just want to leave
 the
 default settings.

After you have set your choices they will remain as set for subsequent
 times
when you use the program. Each time you run the program you will only
 need
to use the run command by pressing Alt-R for the Windows page of the
 dialog
and then move to the applications page and perform the run command with
 Alt-R.

Take care and have a great day!

 Hi Lisa,

Yes, CCleaner works very well with JAWS 9. The program is set up in a
standard dialog box structure where you can use the tab key and
 shift-tab
 to
move forward and backward through a dialog box. You can also use Alt
 key
with the underlined letter of a control to activate it so that you don't
have to tab to the control and press spacebar or enter. For example,
 Alt-R
activates the Run button, which starts the scanning and removal
 process
for the page of the dialog box that is active, which is the Windows page
when you first start the program. When you first use the program and
 press
Alt-R a child dialog box will appear with the OK button in focus. If
 you
use the tab key you can move to a checkbox for telling the program not
 to
show this confirmation box, and check it by pressing spacebar. After
checking the box tab to the OK button and press spacebar.JAWS will
announce the percentage of completion as the program scans and removes
items, but quite often after hearing 100 percent scanning and removal
 will
begin for another area of the computer, so you should wait a few seconds
after hearing JAWS say 100 percent to see if it starts announcing
 percentage
progress again. If you route the JAWS cursor to the PC cursor, do a
 page
up, and use down arrow to the line under where the Windows tab and
applications tab are shown, you will hear whether or not cleaning is

The only one I have unchecked in
 the
Internet Explorer list of items is the cookies choice, as I only want
 tracking cookies removed.

If you use tab key to move to the page tabs and right arrow to the
applications tab, you can then use shift-tab to move back to the tree
 view
and find a list of programs that have cached temporary files that you
 can

I did get CDleaner installed, but I just have a quick question though. When

I was gonna scan with the program it said file on your computer will be
perminently changed. I just wanted to make sure this was normal before I
scan with CDleaner.
Take care,

If you route the JAWS cursor to the PC cursor, do a
 page
up, and use down arrow to the line under where the Windows tab and
applications tab are shown, you will hear whether or not cleaning is

For example, if you
don't want all cookies removed then be sure to uncheck the cookies
 choice.
You can always remove tracking cookies with a different program such as
 Super Anti-

settings, although if you don't want the recycle bin emptied then you
 might
uncheck that item, or if you don't want auto complete form history
 deleted
then you can uncheck that box, etc. The only one I have unchecked in
 the
Internet Explorer list of items is the cookies choice, as I only want
 tracking cookies removed.

If you use tab key to move to the page tabs and right arrow to the
applications tab, you can then use shift-tab to move back to the tree
 view
and find a list of programs that have cached temporary files that you
 can
remove. If you want to uncheck any of these choices then use down arrow
 and
uncheck the box, but I think that you probably will just want to leave
 the
 default settings.

to use the run command by pressing Alt-R for

Presumably this doesn't resolve the problems with avg 8. Hopefully someone
will try it out and let us know whether it works or not. I'd rather not go
through al the hassle I went through last week, upgrading to 8 and having to
revert back.
Cheers

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 9.0.2169 Released

2008-05-22 Thread Kevin Chao
I thought that I pass along the information that JAWS 9.0.2169 is now
available

The details are below:

Enhancements in JAWS 9.0.2169 (May 2008)
The following reported items were addressed in this update. All enhancements
since the initial public beta release are included in the update.

JAWS
AVG Anti-Virus 8.0 software no longer fails when you start the application
while JAWS is running.
Resolved an issue where several customers reported installation error #824
when trying to install JAWS after running some a registry cleaner. This
problem no longer occurs with versions 9.0.2169 and later.
AOL Instant Messenger
The aimhelper.jsh file is now again included with JAWS 9.0. This file refers
to constants and global variables used by the AOL Instant Messenger help
file script.
Microsoft Excel
JAWS now retains and reads column and row titles that you set in multiple
Excel worksheets. Before, when you returned to the previous worksheet, JAWS
would not announce column and row titles (CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+C and
CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+R).
Microsoft Internet Explorer
After selecting the Skip to Content link on the Social Security
Administration Web page, JAWS now consistently moves to the next link when
you press TAB.
When you press ENTER to turn Forms Mode off, it now turns off as the Web
page refreshes and updates.
Microsoft Office
JAWS no longer repeats the column and row information when navigating by
line (UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW) in a one row, one column table.
Microsoft Outlook
When moving through a menu tree list of folders in Outlook, JAWS correctly
announces folder names as you use the ARROW keys to navigate the list.
Earlier, JAWS would say scroll down symbol or scroll up symbol instead of
the folder name.
When navigating the list of folders in the Move Items dialog box
(CTRL+SHIFT+V) and the Copy Items dialog box (CTRL+SHIFT+Y), JAWS no longer
announces blank as you move from one folder to another.
E-mail messages no longer close when you select and copy message text using
the APPLICATION Key's Copy command.
Microsoft PowerPoint
JAWS correctly reads text that is typed into PowerPoint edit fields (for
example, the File name field in the Open dialog box) when you use the Say
Line command (INSERT+UP ARROW). Previously, JAWS would announce blank.
Microsoft Word
JAWS now announces the Word Count dialog box statistics when you press
ALT+T, W in Word 2007 or Word 2003 documents.
JAWS now recognizes and announces when text wraps to the next line in any
text editor, word processor, or Web page when using the Say All command with
the read new line character function turned on. The User Reads Text
Containing New Line Character check box is in the Text Processing dialog box
of the Configuration Manager. When it is selected, JAWS announces the words
new line while reading and moving to the next line of text in sentences and
paragraphs.

Thanks,

Kevin

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 9.0.2169 Released

2008-05-22 Thread Mark
Hi
Thank you for the information. I am looking forward to the new
features.
I have a question about checking the text alignment in MS Word 2007. I
know that I can use JAWS Key plus F4. to get the text alignment but is there
a way to have the alignment status read automatically when harrowing through
a document? My professors are tired of having some lines left justified and
some right justified.
 Any help is appreciated.

God bless,
Mark

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS 9.0.2169 Released

I thought that I pass along the information that JAWS 9.0.2169 is now
 available

 The details are below:

Enhancements in JAWS 9.0.2169 (May 2008)
The following reported items were addressed in this update. All
 enhancements
since the initial public beta release are included in the update.

This file
 refers
to constants and global variables used by the AOL Instant Messenger help
 file script.
 Microsoft Excel
JAWS now retains and reads column and row titles that you set in multiple
Excel worksheets. Before, when you returned to the previous worksheet,
 JAWS
would not announce column and row titles (CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+C and
 CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+R).
(CTRL+SHIFT+V) and the Copy Items dialog box (CTRL+SHIFT+Y), JAWS no
 longer
announces blank as you move from one folder to another.
E-mail messages no longer close when you select and copy message text
 using
 the APPLICATION Key's Copy command.
JAWS now recognizes and announces when text wraps to the next line in any
text editor, word processor, or Web page when using the Say All command
 with
the read new line character function turned on. The User Reads Text
Containing New Line Character check box is in the Text Processing dialog
 box
of the Configuration Manager. When it is selected, JAWS announces the
 words
new line while reading and moving to the next line of text in sentences
 and
 paragraphs.

 Thanks,

 Kevin

[JAWS-Users] something different in Jaws9

2008-05-22 Thread Gopalakrishnan
Hello Friends,

One of my friends has some queries on JAWS. Please answer to the
below-mentioned problems.

I noticed something different in Jaws9:

1. I went to the Yahoo360 Degrees to edit the theam of my Yahoo360blog page,
but why is it that Jaws9 cannot announce radio button check/not check, which
Jaws6 can?
I also tried to go to the Jaws options jaws key plus V, but there's no option
there for radio buttons.
2. And, why is it that when I set the Jaws Options to: graphics-none, when I
close this, the settings take effect. But when you leave that web page
(especially
YahooMessenger) for a while, and momentarily when you returnback, the settings
returns to the previous: graphics-all
I noticed that in Jaws6, once you set the Jaws Verbocity to a particular
settings, it really saved. In fact, after making the settings, upon closing that
verbocity menue, jaws notifies by announcing: Applications settings saved.

I don't have any idea on the first qes question, but on the second if
you use insert v to make these changes it don't save them. You have to
change them in the jaws configuration file to save them. It's been that
way for a while now.

[JAWS-Users] Avast.

2008-05-22 Thread sue morgan
Hi.

I downloaded and installed avast a couple of days ago and I'm struggling with
it slightly.

It's doing a scan at the moment and I'm just wanting to make sure what I did is
correct. I went into the start scan option from the system tray, selected the
dummy check box and used the apps key to select what areas I wanted to scan. I
selected local areas and then I used the apps key again to select what type of
scan I wanted to perform which was a thorough scan and then I pressed start.
Can anyone tell me what the dummy check box means and also if there's an audio
tutorial on avast. I've looked on the Jaws users website where I downloaded it
from and I can't find one. I'd just like some tips on what to do next as I
know you can't set up schedule scan with the free version that I've installed.

I'm probably not making much sense but I'd like some tips and help.

Thanks.

I don't think some are giving it a fair chance. It's different than 7.5 but
it does work well and it's really not difficult to use. I'm using it here
and haven't encountered any problems except for the jaws crashing that the
new update repaired. There is a bit more jaws cursoring than in 7.5 but not
all the difficult in my opinion.

 Hi.

I've downloaded AVAST and I've e-mailed there support team from the
website re registration licence key. I know that several people on this
list have done the same, and I'm wondering how long it takes to get a
reply. I sent the e-mail about 5 hours ago, and I expected to get an

I'm just wondering if anyone can let me know how soon I should get a reply
as I thought I'd have it all sorted by now.

 Thanks.

I don't think some are giving it a fair chance. It's different than 7.5
but
it does work well and it's really not difficult to use. I'm using it here
and haven't encountered any problems except for the jaws crashing that the
new update repaired. There is a bit more jaws cursoring than in 7.5 but
 not
all the difficult in my opinion.

[JAWS-Users] Goldwave tutorials was Re: SoundForge audio tutorial

2008-05-22 Thread Rick Harmon
Hi Tam,

Glad you learned lots of good things from my tutorials. it's great there
are others producing them still. I though perhaps I was the only one these
days. Start Buttons tutorials were excellent and I'm glad to see he's
updating them as well.

Really tied up here right now. I'll try to catch you on Skype if I can.

Hello Tam,

Try going to jaws-users.com then click the link for the form for the jaws
users mailing list. On the resulting page there should be a form to enter
your email address and an unsubscribe or edit options button. Fill in your
email address and hit the button. Now enter your password and click login.
on that page one of the many options should be something for whether or not
to recieve your own posts.
HTH!

He said you can still download the version 7.50 up till June. As I have to
do that in order to ativate the paid version so I called them to inquire
regarding that matter and asked them regarding the rest of it for screen
readers. The man I spoke to seemed very aware of the issue with screen
readers and that AVG is doing all to resolve that issue hopefully by
12/31/08 this is for version 8.

But if you want to still get the version 7.50 you can but it will only be
available till June and it will only be supported if it's the paid version.

In the meantime, they said version 7.50 the paid version will still be

Ok, Stop sign works great with a lot of jaws cursor use. There is

there some way to set up jaws so that when that window pops up a sound
can be played or that the jaws focus moves to the window?

Hi Lisa,

Yes, after activating the run function there is a dialog box that tells you
that files will be permanently deleted.

Take care.

 Hi Brian,
I did get CDleaner installed, but I just have a quick question though.
 When
I was gonna scan with the program it said file on your computer will be
perminently changed. I just wanted to make sure this was normal before I
 scan with CDleaner.
 Take care,
 Lisa

 Hi Lisa,

Yes, CCleaner works very well with JAWS 9. The program is set up in a
standard dialog box structure where you can use the tab key and
 shift-tab
 to
move forward and backward through a dialog box. You can also use Alt
 key
with the underlined letter of a control to activate it so that you
 don't
have to tab to the control and press spacebar or enter. For example,
 Alt-R
activates the Run button, which starts the scanning and removal
 process
for the page of the dialog box that is active, which is the Windows
 page
when you first start the program. When you first use the program and
 press
Alt-R a child dialog box will appear with the OK button in focus. If
 you
use the tab key you can move to a checkbox for telling the program not
 to
show this confirmation box, and check it by pressing spacebar. After
checking the box tab to the OK button and press spacebar.JAWS will
announce the percentage of completion as the program scans and removes
items, but quite often after hearing 100 percent scanning and removal
 will
begin for another area of the computer, so you should wait a few
 seconds
after hearing JAWS say 100 percent to see if it starts announcing
 percentage
progress again. If you route the JAWS cursor to the PC cursor, do a
 page
up, and use down arrow to the line under where the Windows tab and
applications tab are shown, you will hear whether or not cleaning is
complete. This might vary a little on different systems, but the
 scanning
complete notice should be given on a line not far under the page tabs.

After you have made PC cursor active again you can use tab or shift tab
 to
move to where JAWS says Windows tab and use right arrow to move to
 the
Applications page tab. Use Alt-R again to run the program in this
 page.

Before running the program you probably want to set the program to only
remove the types of items you want removed. After opening the program
 and
before invoking the run button, use Shift-tab to move to the tree
 view
 of
choices. If you use the shift-tab then you will find the tree view of
choices after you hear the page tabs announced. Use down arrow in the
 tree
view and check or uncheck items using the spacebar. For example, if
 you
don't want all cookies removed then be sure to uncheck the cookies
I think you can feel pretty comfortable with the
 default
settings, although if you don't want the recycle bin emptied then you
 might
uncheck that item, or if you don't want auto complete form history
 deleted
then you can uncheck that box, etc. The only one I have unchecked in
 the
Internet Explorer list of items is the cookies choice, as I only want
 tracking cookies removed.

If you use tab key to move to the page tabs and right arrow to the
applications tab, you can then use shift-tab to move back to the tree
 view
and find a list of programs that have cached temporary files that you
 can
remove. If you want to uncheck any of these choices then use down
 arrow
 and
uncheck the box, but I think that you probably will just want to leave
 the
 default settings.

After you have set your choices they will remain as set for subsequent
 times
when you use the program. Each time you run the program you

Re: [JAWS-Users] Avast.

2008-05-22 Thread Brian Lee
Hi Sue,

It sounds like you are figuring out the program. One thing I might suggest
is that when you perform your periodic scans that you use the quick scan
feature. You can check any file you download as Avast adds a scan choice to
the right-click context menu in Windows. If you download a file, move focus
on to the file name in the downloaded location and press the application
key. Use down arrow to find the scan choice and press enter. Avast is
auto-protecting your system, so I think that most times when running manual
scans the quick scan choice is ample. You can always perform a thorough
scan on a less frequent basis.

Take care.

 Hi.

I downloaded and installed avast a couple of days ago and I'm struggling
 with it slightly.

It's doing a scan at the moment and I'm just wanting to make sure what I
did is correct. I went into the start scan option from the system tray,
selected the dummy check box and used the apps key to select what areas I
wanted to scan. I selected local areas and then I used the apps key again
to select what type of scan I wanted to perform which was a thorough scan
and then I pressed start. Can anyone tell me what the dummy check box
means and also if there's an audio tutorial on avast. I've looked on the
Jaws users website where I downloaded it from and I can't find one. I'd
just like some tips on what to do next as I know you can't set up schedule
scan with the free version that I've installed.

I'm probably not making much sense but I'd like some tips and help.

 Thanks.

 Sue.

Yes I do. What I don't know, once the routing is done, is whether to press
enter, right click, left click or press application key, all of which can be
done at one time or another on this program or that one.
