Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and Skype

2008-09-08 Thread Derek Roberts
Hi,

To call, just hit enter on the contact, and to end the call, escape. If
you're using the stable version anyway. If you're using the beta, and yes, I
am using it, press space on the contact in the list and enter to star a
call, and to hang up, go to the live conversations list (one tab away from
the contact list, or control 2 with the skype 4 scripts installed) then
applications key on the conversation, and down arrow to or press h a couple
times for hang-up.

The reason you have to manually select contacts is skype opens a new chat
thing at the bottom of the window whenever you select a contact.

Re: [JAWS-Users] installing new jaws script for skype

2008-09-08 Thread Derek Roberts
HI,

For skypewatch, after you've unpacked the skype scripts, press jawskey 0
then control shift d. Go to the end with control end, put in a couple blank
lines, and type the following:

use "skypewatch.jsb"

Now press control s and you should here "compile complete. skype: status
online" or whatever your status is.

Re: [JAWS-Users] a frustrating video problem

2008-09-08 Thread Flor Lynch
On my computer, as far as I know (and using IE 7, Windows XP), the status is
always reported correctly for virtually all of the checkbox and toggle
settings in the dialogues of the Internet Explorer Options. I don't know
that I get any false reports of something being on when it is actually off.

Well actually the properties of those items are on or off. Only FS de
sided to give them checks where actually there aren't none. on some
box it reads checked no matter what the stat us the item is.

Try
www.yahoo.com
Find tv listings and enter on that.
Then find where you enter your zip code and provider.
It works well for me.
There's a lot of junk before the listings, so you'll have to get used to it.
Use your H short cut to skip headings till you get the one you want.
Good luck.

As I remember it, there is a box at the top of the page where you can put in

Hi guys,
I know we have been on this topic before, but I never paid attention because
I wasn't having a problem. I have Cox cable and they have recently changed
the way they display their TV listings on line. There used to be a text
version so that I could tell exactly what time the program would come on.
Now everything is in a grid and you can only guess because they display
three hours at a time. Does anyone know how to read this with jaws or know
of TV listings that work well with jaws? Thanks for any help. Cox gets
their listings from zap2it.com.

Thanks in advance.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Setting up shortcut keys on focus 80 Brailledisplay.

2008-09-08 Thread Flor Lynch
You can also assign braille hot keys, per your hypothetical examples, in
Outlook Express.jkm - JAWSKey+F8. You might choose the "Read subject"
script from the list, or the "Read message" script, to both of which there
are 'none' key assigned at present. Even where there is a key assigned, you
can add another.

This may work:
Go into the JAWS Keyboard manager (JKM), and then press ctrl-shift-d to go
into the Default. there you will see lots of keystrokes, some of which will
have to do with your FocusBraille. Read the associated Help with
JAWSKey-F1. If your desired action is mentioned but with no associated
keystroke ('none'), you may Add a keystroke, press ctrl-a then use the
desired keys on the braille keypad, ok, ans save.

Hi.

I use a Focus80 Braille display at work and I'm wanting to set up some
shortcut keys by using the 8 function keys on the Braille display itself.
I've got as far as Braille settings within the Jaws config manager, but I
can't get any further than that. I can't find anything about setting up
shortcut keys. What I would like is for F1 to take me to the subject of
this e-mail for example. F2 to move to the to field, that sort of thing.
I've looked in Jaws help and I'm not getting anywhere.

Please could someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Maximizing Word2007

2008-09-08 Thread Roopakshi Pathania
Hi,

Yes the word 2007 window is maximised by default.
A simple way to confirm is to press alt + spacebar and press the down arrow 4
times. Jaws will say "maximise unavailable".

Re: [JAWS-Users] Setting up shortcut keys on focus 80 Braille display.

2008-09-08 Thread Flor Lynch

Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and Skype

2008-09-08 Thread Rick Justice
Hi Victor
Looking at the message, there are no references within it
to lead me to believe there is a question concerning Jaws and Skype.
It simply looks like a straight-forward request for contact information.
If a person's contact info isn't contained within the message, the proper
way to request it, is off-list,
since everyone's e-mail address is readily available.
I made my decision based on the information available,
and in this particular instance, there was no request for help.
Consider this:
If everyone were to post like messages, then there would be no need for the
list
because everyone would be asking there questions privately.
Certainly, this list is for the discussion of Jaws, and the management team
likes to see every question answered
with the appropriate resolution, and if some members prefer to correspond
privately, they are certainly free to do so,
and we do not discourage that whatsoever.
This list is a fairly high-traffic list, and we have to read every single
message
whether or not we have any personal interest in the subject.
Having said that, and you being a moderator yourself,
you should be able to understand the need for guidelines, and more
importantly the need for members to follow them.
We process a large number of message every day, to try and ensure timely
delivery to the list,
and in doing so, we havve to make judgement calls, and this was one of
those.
All Donnie would have had to do in the body of his message is said something
to the effect of,
Can you help me more with Jaws and Skype.
and it would have sailed right thru.
If I haven't explained this clearly enough, please contact me.
You've got my e-mail address, here is my phone number:
937-521-2335

[JAWS-Users] Fw: TV listings

Subject: TV listings

Hi guys,
I know we have been on this topic before, but I never paid attention because I
wasn't having a problem. I have Cox cable and they have recently changed the
way they display their TV listings on line. There used to be a text version so
that I could tell exactly what time the program would come on. Now
everything is in a grid and you can only guess because they display three hours
at a time. Does anyone know how to read this with jaws or know of TV listings
that work well with jaws? Thanks for any help. Cox gets their listings from
zap2it.com.

Thanks in advance.

2008-09-08 Thread Dale Leavens
Thanks Chrissy,

I have used Skype a long time in the past, there is something about this new
version, it is giving similar problems on two computers here.

Thanks though, someone has said that the ESCape key will hang up a call I'll
try to use that next time. Since I don't really have any friends most of my
testing is between two computers on opposite ends of the dining room table.
How sad is that?

Hi dale,
that would be also located in the options menue, in the general settings.
there you will find the box to mark to, upon clicking on a contact, either
make a call or open the chat window.

about your problems with the hotkeys. are you sure you press alt AND page up
/Down. it is not the arrow keys.
Not trying to be smart or anything, but when I was first told abouzt hotke
options I made the exact mistake and used arrow up and down by mistake.

other than that it should work fine, with the instructions, unless your
hotkey functions themselves are disabled on your keyboard or something.

Hi,

So far it hasn't helped me. The checkbox is appropriately checked but the
hot keys still don't work.

I did discover though how to disassociate clicking on a contact with the
default to sending a chat message but I will have to find it again and will
post that in answer to a previous message when I find it again.

Re: [JAWS-Users] a frustrating video problem

2008-09-08 Thread Flor Lynch
If their advice is unsatisfactory I would reply, mentioning the new NVidia
drivers and that they should test [giving them the number]. . For all I
know, if you had an earlier version of JAWS - such as JAWS8, or even 7.10 -
that might work! But, at this point, my line has run out; so I leave it to
others to delve.

Hi! I tried changing screen echo. It made absolutely no difference.
Thanks for the suggestion, though.
I even tried seeing if the color changes when I change the status of
something with the space bar; it doesn't. Hopefully I'll hear from Freedom
Scientific at some point today. Maybe it's a problem with the newest nvidia
drivers?

Hi! I could try say all and see what happens, but not even jaws cursor or
insert up arrow sees the on off status, so it's almost as if it isn't there
to bee seen.
As for the old video card, its fan died and it essencially overheated, so I
just wanted to get rid of it before it did any damage to the rest of my
system. It worked like a dream with jaws, and I assumed that this new one
would as well since it's essencially the same thing, just a different
brand.

Or: If you switch Screen Echo to All with insert+s, then use
insert+Up-arrow, does that read extra info? It might be interesting to
know
how the older card's problems were manifesting themselves to JAWS.

As I understand it, other people also have this problem of JAWS not reading
the checked/unchecked status of these checkmarks; so that might be a
by-product of your recent video update.

Hi! I was just giving script debugging as an option name as it was one that
I could remember the exact wording of; my point is that it doesn't say on

downloads on all sites, but thanks to Rick, I can deal with that if I have
to. I only mentioned the information bar because it's what drew my
attention to the real problem I'm asking about which is why jfw is no
longer reading the advanced options of internet explorer properly.

Regarding the information bar question, you've given us only one example
site of where it occurred that it didn't before. have you downloaded a
file
from any other site since your visit to the NLS site, and has the
information bar also occurred then (as not before)? Also, as suggested by
someone, check your IE security settings. there may have been a change in
your IE security setings, so experiment with them if you like. How was the
ailing of the older video card manifesting itself? If the script debugging
notice was on, you would know about it.

Hello, all. I just recently purchased a VGA KFA 286GFE8HDFEXX 8600GT RT
video
card to replace an aling MSN 8500 GT video card in my computer system. For
the most part, everything seems to be working reasonably well, but I am
experiencing a couple of hopefully minor issues that I am really hoping
that someone on this list might be able to assist me in resolving.
First of all, the essencials regarding my system:
Abit Quad GT motherboard
Intel qx6700 processer running at 3.50 ghz
4 GB of Kingston 8500 memory
Windows XP Media Center Edition with Service pack 3.
Jaws For Windows 9.0 Professional
Internet Explorer 7.0
AVG Free Edition Version 8.0
Windows Defender
Nvidia drivers which came out in july of 2008
This problem was drawn to my attention a couple of days ago when I went to
the NLS talking books site to pick out some new books. Instead of
downloading like normal, I was presented with the information bar and had
to
navigate to that and tell it that it's OK to download

[JAWS-Users] news regarding the site

2008-09-08 Thread David Ferrin
I've just come in to a sweet deal on some additional web space so in order to
use it I registered a second domain name yesterday since it's on a different
server. The main page is staying right where it is for a number of reasons, not
the least of which moving it again is an enormous amount of work that I don't
want to do unless like last time I had no choice. What this means for you out
there is some times when you pick a link off of the home page like programs or
what ever it might actually transfer you to another domain that will look the
same as before even though it's in another part of the country. Now begins the
task of filling this extra web space and as time goes on I'm sure I'll be able
to make a dent in it at least.

Hello List,
When I am registering for something on the internet and encounter a combo
box JAWS will not read or select any of the choices within that combo box.
It just reads '1 of 6 or 4 of 11' as an example. I am running JAWS 7.00 and

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Either downgrade to ie6, OR UPDATE YOUR jaws TO 7.10. JAWS7.0 cannot work

and before is a well-known problem and the solutions for it are as i have

As I understand it, other people also have this problem of JAWS not reading
the checked/unchecked status of these checkmarks; so that might be a
by-product of your recent video update.

Hi! I was just giving script debugging as an option name as it was one that
I could remember the exact wording of; my point is that it doesn't say on
or off for any settings. Yes, the information bar is popping up for
downloads on all sites, but thanks to Rick, I can deal with that if I have
to. I only mentioned the information bar because it's what drew my
attention to the real problem I'm asking about which is why jfw is no

Regarding the information bar question, you've given us only one example
site of where it occurred that it didn't before. have you downloaded a
file
from any other site since your visit to the NLS site, and has the
information bar also occurred then (as not before)? Also, as suggested by
someone, check your IE security settings. there may have been a change in
your IE security setings, so experiment with them if you like. How was the
ailing of the older video card manifesting itself? If the script debugging
notice was on, you would know about it.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] a frustrating video problem

Instead of
downloading like normal, I was presented with the information bar and had
to
navigate to that and tell it that it's OK to download the file; I've never
had to do that with the nls site until now. I went to check if some
advanced options in IE may have been changed somehow, only to discover that
JFW no longer reads weather options are on or off; just the option itself.
For example: disable script debugging; it says that, but not weather it's
on or off.
I was hoping that perhaps someone on this list may have some ideas with
regards to what
could be causing this problem, and how I might go about fixing it. I don't
know for sure how many other programs are effected by this, but if I try to
access help for either Internet Explorer or JFW, that doesn't seem to read
as easily as it should.
I have double and tripple checked to insure that I am using all recommended
display settings for JFW, and so far as I can tell, Everything is as it
should be in that respect. In fact, absolutely nothing changed after the
video card was changed; apart from downloading the absolute newest nvidia
drivers I could find, everything should be exactly as it was prior to the
card change. I thought the problem was resolved after updating the nvidia
drivers, but this morning when I turned on my system, I was once again
unable to discern changes in on or off status for advanced options in
internet explorer. Not even using the jaws cursor or insert uparrow reads
the on or off status; it's as if it isn't even on the screen.
Apart from help and internet explorer, all other software I've had occasion
to use since the change in video card seems to be reading as expected, but
I'd really like to resolve this problem so that I can determine what change
may have been made that is making me have to click the information bar any
time I wish to download a file.
Thank you very much for your time, and I hope that everyone is having a
really great day.

[JAWS-Users] trouble with combo boxes

2008-09-08 Thread Bill and Martha Ulmer

Hello List,
When I am registering for something on the internet and encounter a combo box
JAWS will not read or select any of the choices within that combo box. It just
reads '1 of 6 or 4 of 11' as an example. I am running JAWS 7.00 and recently
upgraded to Internet Explorer 7.0 and am using XP professional. Any
suggestions would be appreciated.

That's Exactly what I thought! So, long story short, my question to you
and/or the rest of the list is Have you heard of a way to resolve this
issue? I've emailed jfw tech support, but so far I haven't heard anything
from them.
Thanks!

hang up to end the call but again you have to go back in to the call menu.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and Skype

2008-09-08 Thread Chrissy
hi dale
you have to go into the skype options menue and tab down to advanced
settings. therre you will find the hotkey settings. mark the box to enable
this function. it is disabled by default, so you do need to make sure the
box is checked.
you can now use the alt+page up and down to either initiate a call or hang
up a call.

regards
chrissy

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws and Skype

2008-09-08 Thread Mich
hi when using skype I don't know of any other way to get in to a call then
to go to the call menu and hit enter on a contact and then arrow down to
hang up to end the call but again you have to go back in to the call menu.
hth. from Mich.

Re: [JAWS-Users] installing new jaws script for skype

2008-09-08 Thread Alex Stone
Chrissy, you should just be able to in stall the new scripts over the old
ones. As for skypewatch, I'm not really sure. If you're lucky, when you
install the new scripts it'll work, if it doesn't, do the process again.
Cheers
Alex

Subject: [JAWS-Users] installing new jaws script for skype

hi list,
I would like to update my skype scripts and want install the new script 653.

I already have an older version of this script installed.
My question is, do I have to uninstall the old script or can I just install
'over' the old one already there?
Also I recompiled and renamed this file for skype watch as well as the whole

process to get skype watch to work, as described on the script page. now
after i update to the new 653 do I do the entire process again, i.e.
recompile all again, or will this be untouched by any upgrades?
i know both are seperate things, just curious if I need to repeat any steps
after installing.

thanks in advance
chrissy
