Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and office 2007

2008-10-08 Thread Andrew Head

Hi alex,
I too had the same problem. As I wrote on the list a few months ago, I had a
new laptop with vista home premium and office 2007. I decided I didn't want
to learn to use the ribbon bar yet, but I suppose I will have too some day.
for now, I've gonne back to xp proffessional and office 2003, and I will be
staying with that combination as long as I can.
If you want to down grade, I am not sure how you would go about doing that,
because a friend of mine very kindly fixed things for me.

good luck,
from Andrew.

unfortunately, it may be easier for the sighted, but not us.
Yes, I listened to the freedomscientific basic training, but if I ever want
to switch to office 2007, I feel I will need to sit down with someone
experienced to teach me face to face.

I have been using Office 2007 since April and I still find the interface
very frustrating. I know what I want to do, but I am not quite sure how to
get there! I find myself checking the options available in the
applications context menu for an easier way to perform the task. If you
remember any keystrokes to bring up a dialog in previous versions, like
Control 1 to format cells in Excel, it should still work. My daughter says
that the new interface is pretty, easier, faster, and loves it! They
introduced the multilevel ribbon concept. Freedom Scientific provides a
fairly good explanation in DAISY training material on their site and
through the check for updates feature.

works just like 2003 does. I got the trial version the other day, it's cool!

[JAWS-Users] RE JAWS and Office 2007

2008-10-08 Thread First CRC Tom Vos
Let me just follow up my previous post with some words of encouragement.
Office 2007 is not extremely difficult to learn.
Yes, it takes some practice, and the menus have changed some.
ButI'm not a highly skilled computer user, and I picked it up rather
quickly, so I'm sure that you can too.
Just a bit of patience and self confidence will see you through a long
ways.
Blessings,
Tom

There is a software called Classic Menu for MS Office 2007. The software

[JAWS-Users] RE JAWS and Office 2007

2008-10-08 Thread First CRC Tom Vos
Hannah asks if Office 2007 is better than Office 2003.
My answer would be that if Office 2003, or even Office 2000 is working
well for you, you won't find any great advantage in upgrading. In many
ways it does the same things, so there is no pressure to run out and
upgrade.
But for those who do have to deal with Office 2007, JAWS 9 works well
with it, and JAWS 10 beta 2 has improved it.
Sometimes we grumble about Microsoft monopoly, but that kind of market
share also gives them the freedom to put money into accesibility. I was
sitting on an airplane awhile back with my Pac Mate in my lap, and a man
came down the aisle, noticed my machine, and noted that he worked for
Microsoft in their accessibility division.
A company that is fighting for its market share may not be able to
provide as much accessibility.
Blessings,
Tom

Microsoft created a worksheet consisting of 52 individual sheets that show
how commands were performed in Word 2003 and how to perform them in Word
2007. Commands available in menus and all toolbars in Word 2003 are
included. You might like to use it as a way to quickly find how to do
specific tasks in Word 2007. For example, if you open the spreadsheet and
use CTRL-Shift-S to list all the sheets, you can then press the letter F
four times until you find the sheet that lists all the commands for the
forms toolbar. Of course, pressing enter on the choice opens the specific
sheet. In that sheet, one column shows how you picked a certain tool from
the forms toolbar in Word 2003, and another column shows how to do it in
Word 2007.

If you are interested in this Excel file I can send it to you.

Take care.

Real Alternative is a codec pack created for playing RealMedia files on
Microsoft Windows operating systems without installing RealPlayer. The
pack can be used with any DirectShow-enabled media player, such as Media
Player Classic, which is included as part of the package. The pack was
designed by KL Software using Real Media Splitter, an open source video
filter, and Real Media Codecs.

It does work, but they only have real alternative, which won't
install on my
machine because it says I already have RealPlayer, which I don't, I
did in

the past but I uninstalled it.

Delete them from the DOWNLOADS tab, not the subscriptions tab. From the

[JAWS-Users] Two problems with Jaws 10 beata2 and Outlook 2007

2008-10-08 Thread Stuart
1

I have jaws set to automatically read my messages when I open them but very
often Jaws will not read the full contents of the body of the message

2

I have my messages arranged in order of subject but if I delete a group of
collapsed messages jaws will not automatically speak the next item in the
list. I don't know if this is the correct behaviour for Jaws but it is very
annoying.

I would appreciate any feed back on this

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and office 2007

2008-10-08 Thread Patti

Hey Brian,
Please send me a copy to?
Patti

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] Assigning a sound to a folder

2008-10-08 Thread Mike Barbara
Hi All,

I have assigned a sound to a folder in Outlook Express but, the only way I
can get the sound to work is doing a say title keystroke, insert + t, once I
have opened the folder, or if I press shift + tab to go to another folder.
If I arrow through my folder list, when I get to the folder with the sound
assigned to it Jaws says blank. Is there a way to make the sound work each
time I come to this folder without having to open it first? I am running XP
Office Home, OE 6, Jaws 9 10. I hope that I've explained myself
clearly. All help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much. Take care.

Hello jeffrey. Did you know that you don't have to upgrade to office 2007
if you don't want to. That's right there is a free downloadable patch to
run office 2007 doccuments in office 2003 without changing to the complete
office 2007. The patch is a free download and the great thing is you can
still use the commands to open office 2007 doccuments with office 2003
without changing anything. The office 2003 stays the same and when you
download the patch to open office 2007 doccuments nothing changes. Lot of
people don't know that but you can do it.

Hey Brian,
Please send me a copy to?
Patti

Microsoft created a worksheet consisting of 52 individual sheets that
show how commands were performed in Word 2003 and how to perform them
in Word 2007. Commands available in menus and all toolbars in Word
2003 are included. You might like to use it as a way to quickly find
how to do specific tasks in Word 2007. For example, if you open the
spreadsheet and use CTRL-Shift-S to list all the sheets, you can then
press the letter F four times until you find the sheet that lists all
the commands for the forms toolbar. Of course, pressing enter on the
choice opens the specific sheet. In that sheet, one column shows how
you picked a certain tool from the forms toolbar in Word 2003, and
another column shows how to do it in Word 2007.

If you are interested in this Excel file I can send it to you.

Take care.

Good advice...
Also, she can go and visit jaws users web site for very easy

step by step

instructions on jaws and other programs.
David has really done a fabulous job of all the info on his site

And copying and pasting that info too works great for me anyways

Karen, go down the start menu to where it saysall programs and

enter.
This will bring up a list of your installed programs. Arrow to

jaws

which
has a submenu. arrow right to unveil that list. Arrow down to

see what

the
helps are and enter. That help manual should have been

installed by that

techie so that your f1 and f6 keys would talk to you.. marilyn

[JAWS-Users] Adaware?

2008-10-08 Thread Patricia Dunbar

Hi David,

I was wondering if the Adaware up on your site and the scripts still works?
Or what I mean to ask is, Adaware still a functional spy removal program
even downloading and installing the Def.Ref file as instructed in the upper
portion of the download link of Adaware on your web site?

Thanks,

Patricia

Re: [JAWS-Users] Adaware?

2008-10-08 Thread Patricia Dunbar
Well, I had installed it over the weekend and right before posting this
message I had downloaded the latest defs and installed them and from reading
on the status screen, it was saying this..

SE1R47 24.05.2005

So after reading the 2005 I was thinking this thing is like way outdated.

I followed the steps to the letter to download and install just like those
steps said and all went accordingly, then I did the scan and before the
scan, I got to the status screen and this is where I believe another David
Whitehead had posted awhile back to look at that area so you would know you
had installed the latest def's. This is what I did and that 2005 thing threw
me..

So did I mess up some where?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Adaware?

2008-10-08 Thread Brian Lee

Hello Patricia,

Close the Ad-Aware program if it is opened. Open the DEFS.ZIP file that you
downloaded. Select the DEFS.REF file that is in the zipped file and copy it
to the clipboard. Use either My Computer or Windows Explorer to move to
c:\program files\lavasoft\AdAware SE Personal. When you follow the above
path and the AdAware folder is opened then paste the DEFS.REF file into the
folder. Answer yes when you are asked if you want to overwrite or replace
the existing DEFS,.REF file. You can then close the open folders and open
the program to use it.

When the program opens, route the JAWS cursor to the PC cursor and use the
down arrow key four times to get to the line that shows the date for the
currently installed definitions.

Take care.

Hi David,

I was wondering if the Adaware up on your site and the scripts still
works?
Or what I mean to ask is, Adaware still a functional spy removal
program even downloading and installing the Def.Ref file as instructed
in the upper portion of the download link of Adaware on your web site?

Thanks,

Patricia

Hello Patricia,

Close the Ad-Aware program if it is opened. Open the DEFS.ZIP file that
you downloaded. Select the DEFS.REF file that is in the zipped file and
copy it to the clipboard. Use either My Computer or Windows Explorer to
move to c:\program files\lavasoft\AdAware SE Personal. When you follow
the above path and the AdAware folder is opened then paste the DEFS.REF
file into the folder. Answer yes when you are asked if you want to
overwrite or replace the existing DEFS,.REF file. You can then close the
open folders and open the program to use it.

When the program opens, route the JAWS cursor to the PC cursor and use the
down arrow key four times to get to the line that shows the date for the
currently installed definitions.

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] SP3 Word 2000

2008-10-08 Thread Patricia Dunbar
Just wanted to give an update on my little problem awhile ago involving the
SP3 and Word 2000 and that Normal.dot stuff.
It still occurs well it did until I said yes to let it load the normal.dot
changed or recovered whatever it said and I never encounter that any longer.
I do hear Jaws say, Recovered document when I first open Word, but I realize
that is something either to do with SP3 or Jaws 9 as I didn't hear that with
Jaws 8.
It's not an issue any longer since Word still performs like it's suppose to
do and even Excel too no changes there and that's the program I was more
worried about anyways..
So just in case someone is still using Office 2000 and has installed the
SP3, I really don't think removing that Normal.dot is required, or it's not
for me anyways.
One thing I did though was, I uninstalled the SP3 I first installed before
jaws 9 and I reinstalled it and personally I think that made the difference.

Or it's all in my head...grins

Patricia
