Re: [JAWS-Users] itunes question

2009-01-20 Thread Sherrie
Hi,
I have been using the iTunes for several months and I think I am really
getting a handle on it. The support from Jaws 10 is really great. I am
using Jaws 9 but installed the demo of Jaws 10 so the support for iTunes was
there.
I was thinking of putting together a little tutorial for new users of iTunes
but don't know if any are already available that go into the details.
Anyway here is how I add songs (and books) to the iPod manually:

Adding files manually to iPod

Use control comma to go to the preferences in iTunes or choose it from the
Edit menu. When you are on the General tab use the right arrow to move
across the tabs. Jaws says use control tab but that does not work. After you
get to Apple TV it seems like you are at the end but do another right arrow
and after a time the Devices tab will appear. Tab to Automatically sync iPod
and uncheck it so you can do it manually. Then tab to oK.

To add songs or books do the following:

Focus on the name of your iPod in the source list after you have connected
it.

Create a new playlist and call it whatever you like (You can delete the
playlist later if you wish after the songs appear in your Music folder on
the iPod.) .

Go down your source list and make sure it shows right in the list following
the name of your iPod so you know you created it on the iPod and not in the
iTunes library.

Now it is a matter of choosing the music you want to add and copying it to
the clipboard. If you are starting out and want to add a whole playlist just
go to the name of the playlist and tab twice to put you in the list of songs
and choose Select all from the Edit menu or Control A. Then I choose Copy
from the Edit menu or the Applications menu just to be sure. I think using
the Control A checks all the items but to be sure press the applications key
and see if Uncheck selection is listed. It took me a while before I
discovered the many things that can be done by using the choices in the
Applications menu so check it out carefully.

Now go to the empty playlist you made on your iPod. Tab twice so you are in
the empty list area. Choose Paste from the Edit menu. The songs should be
copied into the playlist and onto the iPod.

Some people have luck focusing on the Music folder or the name of the
playlist and doing the paste but it has never worked for me. I have very
good luck pasting into an empty playlist.

Adding the songs takes time. I think you can check on the progress by using
the Jaws cursor to read the info at the top of the window. I can also hear
the computer working.

After it has pasted all the songs into the empty playlist on the iPod you
can go to the music folder of the iPod and tab to the search box to search
for one of the titles just to be sure it got there.

When you do the syncing manually you need to use the Remove hardware
Safely feature on your computer or I think an eject command appears in one
of the menus. Anyway you need to be sure not to disconnect while it is
still adding music.

One trick I noticed when adding a book in mp3 format was that after I copied
the files to the regular clipboard (not in iTunes) I just created a playlist
on the iPod and pasted the files directly there instead of pasting them into
iTunes and then onto the iPod. It was a good shortcut since I don't need
those files in iTunes anyway.

[JAWS-Users] Adding audio books to iTunes

2009-01-20 Thread Sherrie
Putting audio books into iTunes.

1. Copy the files in the audio book to the clipboard. They should be in mp3 or
wma format. .Ogg will not work. If they are wma files iTunes will just ask if
you want to convert them and it will do it for you.

2. Create a new playlist in iTunes and give it the name of the book. I usually
put the word Book at the beginning so they will all stay together.

3. Focus on the name of the new playlist and then tab twice to the empty list
area of the playlist.

4. Paste the files into the new playlist.

Here's how to tell iTunes to consider an audio book an audio book.

1 . Select all the tracks in the book playlist you just created.

2. Press Control-I to open the Group Info box. (Or use the applications key to
open the list and choose Get Info.)

3. Press Shift-Tab once to reach the Info tab in this multi-page dialog.

4. Press Right arrow until you reach the Options tab.

5. Press Tab until you get to the Media Kind combo box and select Audio book .

6. Then you will need to switch to Jaws cursor and you can check the box for
skipping when shuffling and the one to have the book save your place and the
one that says Part of a compilation. You will need to use the Jaws cursor to
check these since the PC cursor takes you to yes or no choices and choosing yes
does not automatically check the item. Use the left click key for Jaws to click
the items.

7. Tab to OK and press Enter.

8. ITunes then takes a little while to process these changes.

9. To double check that the changes worked go to your audio books folder and do
a search to see if the book is there. I guess I always double check every time
since so many times while I was learning things did not work.

To put the book onto the iPod you can follow the directions I sent earlier
about how to put songs onto the iPod.

The time when I put a book directly into a new playlist on the iPod instead of
putting it into iTunes I did have to then select all the tracks and do the
changes in the Get Info dialog box to change it into an audio book.

Re: [JAWS-Users] itunes question

2009-01-20 Thread Annette Carr
Below are my instructions for importing audio books from a CD into iTunes
for preparation of moving the imported book to an iPod. I'm guessing that
there are many other ways to accomplish this same task, but this is how I
figured it out as a beginner iTunes user. My pre-teen daughter only
understands clicking with a mouse, so I had to take her coded explanation of
how to import music, combine it with what I read on the web and come up with
a way to accomplish the same task from the keyboard. If anyone has
suggestions on how to improve these directions, just let me know.

David, I have these instructions in a Ms-Word 2003 document if you want to
post them to the web site.

HTH,
Annette

Importing Audio Books from CD to iTunes
Instructions compiled by Annette Carr (January 2009)

NOTE: These directions are for iTunes 8 and JAWS 10. JAWS 10 does have
focus issues when in iTunes. TAB-ing away from your current position and
back usually resolves this problem.

1. Put CD in drive.
2. If you are asked if you want to import into iTunes, click NO.
3. If you are asked about getting CD info, it is up to you whether to
answer YES or NO. If you want to just use the information retrieved from
the disk, then select NO. If you want to see what is available, then select
YES. If you do not like the results, then CANCEL.
4. Navigate to the name of the CD listed under devices in the source
list.
5. Press the applications key to bring up the application menu and
select GET INFO.
6. Tab through the items in this dialog box and make corrections as
needed. Make sure the CD title includes the CD number. If there are 10 or
more CDs in the set, be sure to start labeling with 01, 02, etc.
7. TAB to the List view where you should see all of the tracks of the
CD.
8. Select ALL items in the list.
9. From the Advanced menu on the menu bar select Join Tracks
10. Shift+TAB back to the Source list and make sure you have the title
of the CD listed under devices selected.
11. Switch to the JAWS cursor and navigate to the status bar at the
bottom of the screen, and all the way to the right to the Import button.
12. Route PC to JAWS Cursor.
13. Left mouse click to start the importing process.
14. Wait patiently until you hear the iTune chime letting you know that
the importing process is complete. If you need to, you can switch back to
the JAWS cursor and navigate up to the top of the screen. The line below
the menu bar will provide you with the importing status. Note, switching
back to the PC cursor might be an issue. You might need to TAB until you
find yourself back in the source list.
15. In the Source list navigate to the iTunes Music list, most likely at
the top of the list.
16. Tab to the search box and type in part or all of the book title and
press enter.
17. Tab to the List of items and navigate to the book you just imported.
18. Use the application key to open the application menu and select Get
Info.
19. Move to the Info tab and tab through the item and make corrections
if needed. You should not need to change anything in most cases.
20. Move to the Option tab and make the following 3 changes:
a. Change Media to Audio Book.
b. Check Remember Playback position.
c. Check Skip When Shuffling.
d. TAB to OK and select to save changes.
21. The audio book is no longer listed in the Music items list.
22. Navigate to the Source list and move to Audio Books.
23. TAB to the item list and make sure the CD is listed.
24. Make a new play list for the book and add this item to it.
25. Navigate back to the Source list and move to the CD listed under
Devices.
26. Open the application menu with the applications key and navigate to
Eject Disk.
27. Repeat the above steps for all CD in the set.
28. Sync iPod so that the play list for the book is moved to the iPod.

Sherri,

Thank you for the directions. I will give it a try later.

I have the directions documented on how to bring a CD book into iTunes. If
anyone wants these directions, just let me know and I'll post them in a
message here on the list. My directions include instructions that tell you
when to switch back and forth from the JAWS cursor to the PC cursor, but I
do not give directions on the commands for doing this.

2009-01-20 Thread Mark
Hi
I am running JAWS 10 and IE Version: 7.0.6001.18000. I can access all the
form fields accept for the one screen on my college website. Up to about two
months ago I could access it. I am wondering if there is some setting on JAWS
10 that would allow me to access this form field?
 Thank you.

God bless,

Not with iTunes 8. I personally change views to list view, but grid view
also works, not sure about coverflow view though.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Quicken 2003 and Jaws 10 (follow up)

2009-01-20 Thread Lennie Rinaldi

Hello David,

This is a follow up about Quicken 2003 and Jaws 10. I contacted
Freedom Scientific support and I pasted the response below.

I did a little experiment. I removed the scripts from Jaws 10
temporarily and inserted the scripts from Jaws 9 and Jaws 10 still
performed the same as it did which the Jaws 10 original scripts. So,
I surmise that the scripts are the same as you pointed out
previously. I am guessing that the problem is some change in Jaws 10.

The response from Freedom Scientific is disturbing and it might be a
serious problem in the future with keeping track of checks and
reconciling with the bank.

The response follows:

Thank you for contacting Freedom Scientific Support.

According to JAWS 10 help, JAWS 10 does not have built in support for
Quicken. If Quicken worked with JAWS 9, we suggest leaving JAWS 9 on
your system for use with Quicken. JAWS 10 does not have built in help or
support for Quicken.

If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact
us.

Thank you for choosing Freedom Scientific!

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Quicken 2003 and Jaws 10

Hello David,

I can use quicken 2003 okay with Jaws 10, but Jaws 9 did a much
better job with it.

I have several issues with Jaws 10 and Quicken 2003.

1. In Jaws 9 when you make a date change, Jaws will say the complete
date automatically. In Jaws 10, you have to do say line to hear the
date. This is also true for the payee, amount and the memo fields.

2. In Jaws 10, as you tab to the payee field, Jaws says Payee and
when you tab to the amount field, Jaws says not found, How do I?and
then says payee again.

3. In the payee and amount fields, as you type the information in,
Jaws 10 will not speak the completed text whereas in Jaws 9 will
speak the complete text when you finish.

4. In both Jaws 9 and Jaws 10, Jaws speaks payee again in the category
field.

Any time I go into Quicken, I unload Jaws 10 and bring up Jaws 9
since it seems to work better with that version. However, I would
like to keep Jaws 10 running instead of flipping back and forth.

Perhaps, these issues may be minor to most people, but I use Quicken
quite frequently. I really believe that Freedom Scientific is not
supporting Quicken mainly since Intuit are not the most friendly
people to deal with, at least that what I have heard.

One more note. I did notice that the scripts for Quicken in version
9 has scripts with the name Quicken2000 which is not included in Jaws
10 scripts. This may be due to the fact Jaws 10 does not support
window 2000 anymore?

Any comments, suggestions or advice on how to improve Quicken 2003
will greatly be appreciated. I noticed that Dana is using Quicken
2005, but I figured that it makes no sense to upgrade Quicken if
Freedom Scientific is not going to support it.

Thanks and try to say warm!

Lennie

Hello everyone,

I have been using Quicken 2003 since it became available and I have
no problem with it in prior versions of Jaws.

Quicken is somewhat manageable in Jaws 10. However, I found that it
does not work quite as well with that version. I checked popular
application in Jaws 10 and Quicken is not listed, but it is listed in Jaws
9.

I also checked Quicken scripts for Jaws 10 and I noticed that there
are fewer scripts there than in Jaws 9.

Has anyone else having problems with Quicken in Jaws 10? I was
thinking of copying the scripts from Jaws 9 and insert them in Jaws
10, but I don't want to create more problems.

Any thoughts or suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,

Lennie

Lennie

There has not been a problem here at all. I've been using Quicken 2003

 Quicken scripts to compare.

 Hello everyone,

I have been using Quicken 2003 since it became available and I have
no problem with it in prior versions of Jaws.

Quicken is somewhat manageable in Jaws 10. However, I found that it
does not work quite as well with that version. I checked popular
application in Jaws 10 and Quicken
