Subject: [JAWS-Users] USB sound card on lap top

My hero bought me a USB sound card for my lap top, the thought being
to run the speakers through the card and JAWS through the onboard
sound. I have not installed the card. How do I explain to it that I
want media to go through it and JAWS not to? I think I remember that
in Winamp yu could direct output somewhere other than the onboard
sound, but I'm using Windows Media Payer--and the regular Windows
sounds, as well.

Anybody comfortable with this scenario and could tell me how???

Much thanks,

Ann

Hi Rich,
I'm interested to know what shortcut you use to bring up JAWS in
older version.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS short cut

Hi all.
I have XP home and 10.00.
I have a shortcut to turn JAWS on.
I just noticed that when I use the shortcut key that my older
version of JAWS 9.0 comes up.
Also, my system tray had the 9.0 version in it. So I unchecked that
particular option.

My desk top has both versions showing.
I deleted the 9.0 desk top, but the shortcut key did not work. So,
I brought the 9.0 version back to the desk top.

Is there a way of merging the 10.0 so the shortcut key brings the
newer version?

Thanks so much.

Hi:
I'm interested in the Deep View software that allows you to make different
kinds of flow charts. I'd like to use it for two reasons -- one for flow
charts, and also for the mind-maps used for organizing ideas.

But, I tried to download the software, twice, and got the message software
corrupted both times. Has anyone else downloaded this software, and did it
download correctly? If so, what can I be doing wrong?

When the run-save screen came up, I put the file into a folder I'd created
in my Program Files folder, called DeepView. It downloaded okay, but when
I went to run the setup file I got the corrupt file message.

All help is appreciated. Barbara

2009-01-29 Thread Samuel Rodrigues
Oh yes, you can delete the jaws 9 shortcut.
Go to desktop,
choose jaws 10, press alt+enter or properties,
choose shortcuts tab, press tab, where there is shortcut key is none,
make it, your own shortcut.
type the shortcut, and choose okay.
this must work.

 Hello listers,
Any suggestion please on currency converter site that is
 accessible with JAWS?
I usually use yahoo converter, it was excellent and JAWS
friendly until they have changed their web layout.
I sent feedback expressing my difficulties using the site,
 but it didn't help.
 Thank you.

[JAWS-Users] Serotek Ends SMA's; will FS Be Next?

2009-01-29 Thread Gerald Levy

As many of you have already heard, Serotek just announced that it would
discontinue Software Management Agreements for most of its screen reader
products. This means that they will no longer charge for updates to their
screen readers for life. Will this force FS to follow suit with JAWS to remain
competitive? Quite frankly, I don't see how Serotek can give away their
products and still remain financially viable. Mike Calvo talks tough, but is
he setting himself up for a big fall? Will FS simply ignore this revolutionary
change in the marketing of accessible software?

Just installed NVDA. Since NVDA uses the Insert key just like JAWS, I was

Do I have to put JAWS back in the task bar in order to control things better

Re: [JAWS-Users] podcasting programs and jaws

2009-01-29 Thread Erin B. Edgar

Hi, Andrew.

I am not sure if you are looking for programs to create podcasts or to
receive them.

For creating podcasts, I have used both Audacity and GoldWave with JAWS
with good results. For the most part, all or most functions can be
accessed either through menus or hotkeys.

For receiving podcasts, I prefer to use Juice (or I-podder, as it was
first called) to receive my podcasts. There is also the accessible
podcatcher.

I am not sure of the links to all of these programs, but these, along
with other alternatives, can be found on the JAWS users list programs
page at

http://www.jaws-users.com

Hth,
Erin

Have you tried unloading JAWS using the Windows Task Manager

As many of you have already heard, Serotek just announced that it would
discontinue Software Management Agreements for most of its screen reader
products. This means that they will no longer charge for updates to their
screen readers for life. Will this force FS to follow suit with JAWS to
remain competitive? Quite frankly, I don't see how Serotek can give away
their products and still remain financially viable. Mike Calvo talks
tough,

but is he setting himself up for a big fall? Will FS simply ignore this
revolutionary change in the marketing of accessible software?

You can't unload JAWS because Insert-J does not work and you can't alt-tab
to it because it's running in the system tray. Using windows keys to move
to the sys tray and pressing Enter on the JAWS button will not bring it up
either.

Re: [JAWS-Users] currency converter site

2009-01-29 Thread Leonard Morris
Yeah I agree with you that Yahoo really messed that part of their site up
and writing to them doesn't mean anything since they never replied to me
either. If you want a quick way to get a currency conversion try the
following. Go to google and in the search field type something like this:

1 dollar to php

In the first header on the return choices it shows you the currency
conversion.

Hello listers,
Any suggestion please on currency converter site that is
accessible with JAWS?
I usually use yahoo converter, it was excellent and JAWS
friendly until they have changed their web layout.
I sent feedback expressing my difficulties using the site,
but it didn't help.
Thank you.

Re: [JAWS-Users] NVDA JAWS Conflicts

2009-01-29 Thread Victor

I think there are two ways you could turn Jaws off when accessing NVDA.

The first, as has already been suggested, is to turn Jaws off with insert+F4
before you turn NVDA on, at which point, you no longer need to worry about
the insert key not working.

The second way, if you've already got NVDA running, is to go to your
desktop, press the letter J to get to the Jaws icon, then pressing enter to
get the Jaws menu, then arrowing up to exit, at which point you can simply
press enter to turn Jaws off.

At this point, you can use your shortcut key to re-start Jaws, and the
insert key will again be enabled.

Hope this helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] NVDA JAWS Conflicts

2009-01-29 Thread Don and Cher Bosch
I had just installed the program, so both JAWS and NVDA were running. I
could not access JAWS by any method with NVDA already running. I can unload
JAWS first in the future, but trying to unload it with NVDA running was
interesting :-(

Why don't you use your hotkey for starting jaws? It works here, but the
hotkey is made with winkey.

You can't unload JAWS because Insert-J does not work and you can't alt-tab
to it because it's running in the system tray. Using windows keys to move
to the sys tray and pressing Enter on the JAWS button will not bring it up
 either.

Re: [JAWS-Users] NVDA JAWS Conflicts

2009-01-29 Thread Victor

Hi Don,

I too was wierded out by the fact that it disabled my numpad insert key,
then to discover that my insert commands for bringing up the system tray
didn't work, well, needless to say, like you, I had to be creative in how I
dumped Jaws also. Grins.

Suffice it to say, I remember that hitting enter on the Jaws icon on the
desktop brought on the Jaws menu, which would then allow me to exit Jaws was
a profound relief.

I was also relieve to find out that once you bring Jaws back, if NVDA is
started first, followed by Jaws, the insert function comes back and can be
used for Jaws again.

Like I said Quite the relief.

Re: [JAWS-Users] NVDA JAWS Conflicts

2009-01-29 Thread Gerald Levy

The correct procedure to quit NVDA while JAWS is running is Insert-num row
3, then Insert-Q. Insert-F3 is the Find Next function, not the JAWS
pass-through key function.

I had another thought. Have you tried accessing JAWS from the System

by pressing Insert-F11 and then hitting Enter on the JAWS icon? This
should

bring up JAWS so that you can unload it.

Thank you.

2009-01-29 Thread Don and Cher Bosch
Victor-

I have never seen JAWS bring up the menu when hitting the desktop icon like
that... And had to try it before I believed that it could possibly work.
Also glad to know that the Insert key will be reclaimed by JAWS if JAWS is
launched second. I appreciate knowing that you knew what I was talking
about because suddenly losing the Insert key like that left me feeling
pretty crazy.

[JAWS-Users] Windows Live Mesenger

Good evening every one:

I realize that this question perhaps has been answered on the list once or

[JAWS-Users] reading file extentions

2009-01-29 Thread Rachel Magario

Hello listers,

My jaws used to say the name of a file and dot whatever was after like dot
doc or dot PDF or dot HTML.

I had to reinstall jaws and now it won't read what extention the file has.
Does anyone how to do that?
I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Happy 2009!
Rachel

Re: [JAWS-Users] question about tv listings guide

2009-01-29 Thread Brian Lee

Hello amber,

AOL has a TV listings site that I use all the time. When you go to the site
for the first time you will need to give your zip code on the initial page
and such things as provider information and service type on subsequent
pages. When you are finished entering the information you can save the
settings. You can then save the page that shows your listings as a
favorite. The site shows channels in order and each one in a separate list.
If you are viewing channel 6 information and you want to move to channel 11,
then you can press the letter L five times to move to the list with your
information. You can also use the find command and search for the call
sign. Links are used for show titles, so if you press enter on a show title
link, the information for the show will be displayed right under the list
for the channel you are viewing. I think that about three hours are shown
at a time, but you can easily move to a combo box to pick what ever day and
time you want and then use the view link just below the combo boxes. Once
you have saved the site as a favorite you can always go directly to the page
that applies to your location, provider and type of service. Here is a link
that should take you to a page to start the process:

http://tvlistings.aol.com/

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] how to hide colums in an XL spread sheet

2009-01-29 Thread Negoslav Sabev

Go to format menu, arrow down to column submenu and choose hide there. You
can also unhide columns. The same for rows, but choose row in the format
menu.
