Wayne, I don't quite understand why you'd want to be able to do that, as if
you weren't subscribed you wouldn't see anyone's replies. Anyway, the answer
to your question is no. If you're not subscribed you can't post to the list.
Cheers
Alex

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem with Avast support

2009-02-18 Thread Stanley Smith
Hi George. In my past expderiences persistence has paid off. However, this
was not true with Avast Support as I received my registration key
immediately. But I think if you emailed Michael again and requested that a
registration key be sent to you because you are blind, that you use a screen
reader to read what is on the screen, and that the captia on the
registration page is graphical and is not accessible to your screen reder,
surely you will get a response from Michael or whoever writes you back.
Also you should tell them it has been 2 weeks since you emailed them and
that they haven't written you back with a registration key, and also send
them the answers again to the questions they asked you the first time you
tried to register. Also tell them you have been waiting for 2 weeks and
that you haven't heard from them at all, repeating myself but that's okay.
Sometimes it really pays off to be persistent when it comes to things like
this. Hope this helps you out and looking to hear something positive has
happened for you.
Stanley

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Also Having Problems Selecting,Copying and Pasting
Text

Hi Folks,

Like that other person who was having trouble, quite often, in fact, this
happens all the time, when I go to copy text from a web page into a
document, notepad, WordPad or e-mail, I get some kind of code instead of the
text I've highlighted, copied and pasted.

This is getting fairly troublesome, as I often do this type of copying and
pasting to help friends with problems they may have, and where I find a
relevant bit of text on the net that can help them.

I'm using Jaws 10, latest build, Windows XP, Word 2003 and Outlook Express
6.

As far as I know, all of my settings are configured properly with the
configuration manager under highlighting options, and so I'm at a loss to
understand why this is.

I also have a problem where I am composing an e-mail, and, when I press the
down arrow in combination with the shift key to select the text, the line
will select, however, half of the words seem to be selected, as opposed to
the word. I mean it's like that function, called smart highlighting or
something like that, is turned off.

I've also come across a time or two, where I want to highlight a few words
in an e-mail message, whether reading to copy to another message, or just
composing the message for copying and pasting to a spot further down in the
message, or what ever, where, instead of the whole word being selected only,
the entire word is selected, right along with half, or a few letters of the
next word.

Can anyone help me with this.

Sorry for the long message, but I wasn't sure if those two things below were
significant or not.

Thanks all.

Hello all,
I'm looking for something to remind me of up coming appointments, birthdays,
and things I need to do, ETC. I was looking around in my Yahoo account, and I
found the Yahoo calendar. Have any of you used the Yahoo calendar with jaws?
If anyone has used the Yahoo calendar successfully with jaws could you give me
some pointers, or tips on how to use it? I would prefer to receive email
reminders if possible. Any help with this would be very much appreciated! I'm
running windows XP home addition with Jaws 10.
Take care,

[JAWS-Users] Adobe Digital Editions

2009-02-18 Thread Deborah Armstrong
Our local libraries offer hundreds of PDF ebooks you can download and read
on your PC. They have built-in DRM that enables the book to expire after
the loan period is past. The service works through overdrive (same service
that provides e-audio for patrons.) You can also download DRM-protected PDF
books from netlibrary for loan and from fictionwise and amazon.com for
purchase.

I remember being able to read these in the past. I believe I simply
downloaded the PDF, loaded it in to Acrobat 7, entered a password and the
book was checked out to me. Then I could print it to the virtual printer
of K1000 or An Open Book and all was good. Sometimes I could even read the
book with JAWS. Sometimes, printing was disabled, but I could have my OCR
software open the PDF.

But since Acrobat reader is forever nagging you to upgrade, I updated to 8
and now version 9-something. You'd think the newer versions would be even
more accessible, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Today, when you download a library book, you get a tiny .EDT file and you
are advised to download Adobe Digital Editions.

I was unable to fetch Digital Editions from the Adobe website, despite
Adobe's insistance that the site is accessible. I googled around and read in
the adobe forums that if you want screen reader support you need to
downgrade to Adobe reader 7.9. But I'm pretty sure they've closed the
loophole on printing, so I wonder if this will actually work. And if I do
downgrade, will I loose other accessibility features?

Has anyone found a way to read new ebooks, from libraries or from
fictionwise using JAWS? Has anyone fooled with Digital Editions?

And isn't it illegal for libraries to offer a service which used to be
accessible but no longer is?

Thanks all.

yes. That is the only way (in Outlook Express) because the virtual cursor

Hi All,

To make the change Flor has spoke of in Jaws options, changing the copying
selection from full content using on screen highlight to from virtual
cursor, you have to be in an open message. Take care.

Again, for such instances, in the Adjust Options (which used to be called
JAWS verbosity - why do they keep changing names?) - JAWSKey+v dialogue,
virtual cursor options, toggle the select and copy from onscreen highlight
to from virtual cursor.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Adobe Digital Editions

2009-02-18 Thread Greg

Hello,
I tried to use adobe digital editions and it was not accessible at all. I
even called Freedom Scientific to see if there was a way to make it
accessible and they had no idea what I was talking about. The only way I
found to use adobe digital editions was to have someone who could see copy
the text. When adobe upgraded to 8.x they took out the ability to read
password protected pdf's.

Greg W.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Adobe Digital Editions

Our local libraries offer hundreds of PDF ebooks you can download and read
on your PC. They have built-in DRM that enables the book to expire after
the loan period is past. The service works through overdrive (same service
that provides e-audio for patrons.) You can also download DRM-protected
PDF

books from netlibrary for loan and from fictionwise and amazon.com for

Today, when you download a library book, you get a tiny .EDT file and
you

are advised to download Adobe Digital Editions.

I was unable to fetch Digital Editions from the Adobe website, despite
Adobe's insistance that the site is accessible. I googled around and read
in

the adobe forums that if you want screen reader support you need to
downgrade to Adobe reader 7.9.

And isn't it illegal for libraries to offer a service which used to be
accessible but no longer is?

and is the delay comman?

Thanks,

George R. Marshall
