I realize that some of you may not have the luxury of owning the Kurzweil
OCR program, but I have found that it does the best job when it comes to
reading PDF files. Even when it is a scanned image and Jaws does not
recognize text with the the document, Kurzweil will convert that image to
text and does a great job of reading it. Just this week I received a PDF
attachment and when I tried to open it with Adobe and read it with Jaws, I
received the message that it was an empty document. I simply did a control
p to print and chose the Kesi Virtual printer. The document opened and I
was able to read it. I am not certain about this, but I would assume that
Openbook has the same capability.

2009-03-03 Thread Denny Huff
This is not a Jaws issue, but rather with Outlook itself. Even sighted
people have this problem. I have found the best solution is to open the
message, then do an alt H, followed by the letter X and then the letter V.
This will allow you to view that message using your Internet Browser. Jaws
may not speak while performing these key commands, but follow through with
them and the message will be displayed.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2007 and JAWS 10; Reading Mail

Hi All.

Okay, I've been a satisfied user of Outlook 2000 and 2003 for quite a
while

now. My new laptop has Outlook 2007, and over-all, I like it. However, I
notice most of my emails display kind of funky when I open them,
particularly if they're HTML messages. To get to the text in most
messages
now, I have to right-arrow or use table commands it seems to get past
little
graphics. So, I guess what I'm wondering is, how can I optimize the
settings

in Outlook 2007 to best work for me as a JAWS usser?

Thanks.

[JAWS-Users] Authorization key extension

2009-03-03 Thread Blackwell, Clifford
I am having a friend help me clean some things off my computer in and
out of the registry. He knows what he's doing so that should not be a
problem.

However, if we clean some old Jaws files out, I want to make sure that I
leave the authorization key. What is the extension for the
authorization key or how do I identify it so as not to delete it by
accident?

Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Authorization key extension

What version of Jaws are you using? In newer versions, it's just a 20 digit
number. It doesn't have a file extension, if this is what you mean.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Java

Hello,
This is not true. You have to download the java access bridge and install
it. It is not perfect but it does make java somewhat accessible.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Authorization key extension

2009-03-03 Thread Jack
As long as you keep your key count current, you will never have a problem
reauthorizing your JAWS product. Personally I don't like the fact that you
have to reauthorize JAWS if you replace a piece of computer hardware, like a
DVD drive. I think that's just a little too invasive.

It probably is. However, I've had to wipe the hard drive on this
particular computer enough, that I worry that I won't be able to get
additional keys. That hasn't been a problem, but sometime it might
become one and I'm hoping to be ahead of the curve.

Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Gold Wave

2009-03-03 Thread Jack
Hi Vicki

I'm using the current version of GoldWave and I'm also using Vista. Here's
a link to a page where you can download the scripts for GoldWave. They do
make a big difference in accessibility with certain aspects of the program.
The scripts are about half way down the page past the links for programs.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2007 and JAWS 10; Reading Mail

2009-03-03 Thread Chris Hallsworth
The PC cursor represents the application or window gaining focus. It is also
used for typing as it follows the insertion point. The JAWS cursor is what
is thought to be a virtual mouse pointer, meaning it operates and behaves
like a mouse pointer. So you can hover over items in an application or
window and manipulate them. Items can include text, icons, controls, etc.

Very cool...I'll give this a shot tonight. If you don't mind me
asking, where did you find this command?

that might also come in handy here at the office; several of my
coworkers have been upgraded to office 2007, and myself and another
blind user might be next.

 Jaws
may not speak while performing these key commands, but follow through with
them and the message will be displayed.

 Thanks.

The .auth is for the older method of authorization, however. you mentioned
'older JAWS files', by which I had assumed you meant older versions of
JAWS - that is, older than version 6, since when the newer Internet Licence
management method superseded the older floppy disk authorization key.

Re: [JAWS-Users] System and Application control in Vista?

2009-03-03 Thread tim
Most computer with both jacks in back and front.
If you plug into the front the back jacks are
muted until front jack is unplugged.
It depends on the sound card controls to just how
much control you have over the jacks.

Some of the newer computers like mine have 2 audio outputs. One in the
front for headphones, and one in the back for the computer speakers. You
can actually rout different audio to different outputs. Like Jaws out the
front, and the rest of the system sounds out the back to the speakers. The
drawback is that you have to always wear headphones to use Jaws.
Personally, I find that annoying.

why i went with 2 sound cards.

If it works the same way in Vista, you have to edit the Jaws.INI file.
Here's an example of what it looks like. You'll have to personalize it to
your system.

[Synthesizers]
Synth1Name=eloq
Synth1LongName=Eloquence for JAWS
Synth1Port=SiS 7018 Wave
Synth1Driver=eloq
Synth2Name=NoSpeech

Synth3Name=SAPI 5X

Hi
I bought a USB sound card and would like to use it for the music and
other computer sounds, while using the built in card for JAWS. How does one
do this in vista?
  Thank you for your help.

When you adjust the main or wave output of the sound card. it will
effect all programs unless those programs have there own volume controls.
The only way around this is with 2 sound cards. Then you can use one
for main control of all programs that don't have sound controls. And
the other to control jaws at what ever level you want it at.
i got 2 cards in my box, and run jaws on main with system sounds, and
all programs with there own controls on the second card. Vista will
let you control all of this from its own nice sound controls.

I really appreciate the separate control of each application's
volume level in Vista. But I continually wish I had quick control
over the current application without effecting JAWS. I know there
is a program on the jaws-users page to do this type of thing, but I
had no success with it in Vista. I attempted to write simple JAWS
scripts to merge with the default scripts to set the system volume
and then readjust the JAWS volume with the built-in
 functions. Unfortunately, the
SetSystemVolume function seems only to set the level of the JAWS
voice level within what is set in the System Tray volume mixer for
the JAWS application. It has no effect on the system volume level in
the volume mixer or the volume level of any other application!

Is anyone aware of a Vista compatible application that can set
hotkeys to adjust the current application's volume? Or any program
that can do this through a command line interface? As far as I
 know, the volume mixer program,

sndvol, does not accept parameters. Or perhaps JAWS scripts or
functions I am not aware of yet?

Good evening,

Not sure if this question has been answered, but the file can be
found in:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Freedom Scientific

Also, the following URL is for a fairly popular JAWS scripting mailing

but is apparently no longer shipping.
any ideas on where to get this kind of documentation?
