Not having that problem here. Check that there's not a firewall conflict,
which shouldn't happen anyway since AVG, with permission from the user of
course, will turn off the Windows Firewall during installation.

Then you're using the free version! Either that or you're just using the
antivirus component of AVG, as there's also AVG Pro, which is just
comprehensive malware protection.

I did so, and when I press f, nothing came up. I am using the free version.
Does it make a different? I also did alt c and use up arrow and did not find
anything about firewall.

Re: [JAWS-Users] 2 soundcards and jaws

2009-03-27 Thread Øyvind Lode

Of some reason it does not work when I start JAWS as a windows service.
When jaws is started as a service it automatically uses the usb device.

I disabled the start jaws as a service and tried and then it works just
fine.

Strange, I tried both jaws 8 and 9, same problem.

So currently I do not start jaws as a system service which means that I
do not get a accessible login as well as jaws does not work correctly
when I press ctrl-alt-del to bring up the Windows Security dialog
(windows xp).

To be able to use this dialog I need to start jaws as a service.

Yes, you can. You have to edit the jfw.ini file which isn't hard. Go to the
FS site and search for multiple sound cards under the technical support. If
you don't find it, I'll dig it up. They give you the step-by-step
instructions.

Hi,

I just installed a external usb soundcard.
I want to use this new usb device for music playback etc since it has a
much better dac than my integrated soundcard.
But I want to use the integrated soundcard with jaws.

Is it possible to configure jaws to use a different soundcard from the
one which is default on the system?

I use windows xp and jaws 8.0.2173.

Re: [JAWS-Users] alt f4

2009-03-27 Thread Victor
I have the same kind of problem, however, in my case, I am not able to
activate the system menu on any window.

When I press alt+the spacebar, I get the file menu and nothing else.

I have come to the conclusion that this is not Jaws related, and is Windows
related, but, for the life of me, I can't figure out why that is.

I am dying to root around in the registry, but I don't know enough about it
and it's idiosyncrasies to successfully negotiate all the parameters.

Hi Ann Marie,

To turn collapsed messages off do the following.
1. Alt + V for the view menu.
2. Press enter on current view or press the letter "V".
3. Arrow up to " Group messages by conversation ", if this box is checked
press enter to uncheck it. Once you have unchecked this box, this should
stop your messages from collapsing. I hope this will fix your problem.
Also, pressing enter on that box will take you out of the menues. Take
care.

Hi,

This is called a conversation view. It means all your messages are being
grouped by there subjects into a sort of tree. I like this view because
you

can do something to an entire thread at once. For instance if there was a
long thread or just a thread that you didn't want to keep track of, you
could just delete the collapsed message and it would delete the whole
thread. If you want to go back to the old view though... hmm. Not sure. in
windows mail you can go to the view menu, current view, group messages by
conversation. Not sure about Outlook though.

Hope this helps!

This is just a wild thought, but has anyone considered calling your local
college or university to see what is being used in foreign language labs or
for on line foreign language courses? At the very least, you might get
referred to some of the foreign language text book publishers who may
package cd's that students can use on their own in conjunction with courses.
I checked the Hadley School curriculum list but found nothing for you there.
If you have a phone number for Rosetta, why not ccall the company. Marilyn

[JAWS-Users] on line foreign language instruction

Those who have commented on the inaccessibility of Rosetta Stone might want
to google this phrase in quotation marks for a bunch of sites to

could help. After all, just in the USA alone many classrooms have students

Re: [JAWS-Users] Amazon.com

2009-03-27 Thread Thomas Sagar
There are a couple of things I do not like about Amazon's accessible site,
though. There is no log out button that I can find. Also, you seem to not
get the more detailed information and descriptions about the products you
are shopping for. It seems to be so scaled down that it loses a lot of good
info. Anybody else agree?

Re: [JAWS-Users] IE connection.

2009-03-27 Thread Chris Hallsworth
Then it sounds like an ISP problem. You could, however, check, in the LAN
settings dialogue box, that "automatically detect settings" is not checked.
Checking this will force to browser to search for a proxy server. You can
find the lan settings dialogue box in Internet Options, connections page,
lan settings...button.

Re: [JAWS-Users] alt f4

2009-03-27 Thread Dale Leavens
Recently I have been having this happen to me as well. While I have Jaws 10
I haven't yet upgraded from 9 PRO running under VISTA. Having sloshed a
coffee through the notebook keyboard I am still waiting for a new one to be
installed and am using a USB keyboard and it began happening about that
time, just a couple of weeks ago. Sometimes unloading and reloading JWS will
fix it but usually I have to reboot.

I have also noticed that ALT-Arrow doesn't necessarily move me back and
forth along Web pages and sometimes Space Bar does not click buttons.

While I cant explain the spacebar issue I am guessing something is happening
with the ALT key. Maybe one of those worms lying in wait for April first.

I have the same kind of problem, however, in my case, I am not able to
activate the system menu on any window.

When I press alt+the spacebar, I get the file menu and nothing else.

I have come to the conclusion that this is not Jaws related, and is
Windows

related, but, for the life of me, I can't figure out why that is.

I am dying to root around in the registry, but I don't know enough about

Re: [JAWS-Users] alt f4

2009-03-27 Thread Victor
Hello Holger,

What key exactly are you pressing, and what does it do.

At first I thought you were referring to the F11 key, but when I did that,
nothing actually happened. Then I thought you might be referring to the
Print Screen key, but again, that also did nothing.

Is there a modifier key I have to press along with those two?

If not, could you elaborate as to what this keystroke does?

Thanks.

just wondering which virus program is accessible with this version of jaws and
my operating system?

there is a key in my keyboard that is in between f12 and print key. jaws
does not name it so I do not know what it is. I have a wireless keyboard.

[JAWS-Users] cd burning software

2009-03-27 Thread Andrew Head
Hi all,
does anyone know of free easy to use software that is accessible with jaws? I
have used a few demos of some free and trial version of software and found it
very difficult to select files for burning. also, for some reason with all
these programs the default option is create a data cd and I haven't found a way
to create an audio cd. Or in some cases I have thought it has worked when it
hasn't. I have itunes, and I have the scripts, but only have the demonstration
copy and there are some limmitations which are annoying such as messages
speaking every so fften and the keyboard being frozen while these messages are
being spoken.

sorry for going on like that. I just wanted you to understand my difficulties.
if anyone has any information that would be most welcome please.

Re: [JAWS-Users] cd burning software

2009-03-27 Thread E.J. Zufelt

Good evening Andrew,

Which version of Windows and JAWS? To the best of my knowledge the
newest version of ITunes works with JAWS 8 or above, but you will need
to get the free scripts from Freedom Scientific's site if you have
JAWS 8 or 9.

Everett
