Mark, try function key 6 to put your curser on the other window on the
screen.

It should not be necessary to use the jaws curser.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Accessing a window with in a screen

Hi
My online college has a system where a person accesses their
records through a web page. Very handy accept that when I open this web
page the information shows up in a separate window on my screen. I end
up using the JAWS cursor to read the information. It would be preferable
to get the PC cursor in to this window so I could interact with the
data. Routing PC to JAWS had no affect. I did a JAWS key with F 10 and
nothing came up on that list either. Any ideas on how to access this
data window would be appreciated. I am using IE 8 and or Fire Fox, the
latest version of JAWS, and vista home addition 32 bit.
Thanks in advance for your help.

God bless,
Mark

Re: [JAWS-Users] Accessing a window with in a screen

2009-04-03 Thread Grant Hardy
Hi Mark,

On the student service center at my university, there are links like
grades, registration and so on. They open in a new browser
window, meaning that you end up with two Internet Explorer windows
open - the main student service center in one window, and the
resulting page from the link you clicked on in another. Could this be
all it is? Try pressing ALT+TAB to move between the applications that
are open on your computer, and see if you find more than one browser
window. Or, your computer may be set up to open new windows in a new
tab instead. I think this is unlikely, but pressing CTRL+TAB from
within Internet Explorer would cycle to the new page, if that were the
case.

Apart from that, see if you can find out some more information about
the window in question. Do a left mouse click on some of its text
with the JAWS cursor (JAWSKey+8 in laptop layout; or the SLASH key on
the numeric keypad in desktop layout). Did it come up in the virtual
cursor? Did it come up in another application, such as Adobe Reader?
(Even if that were the case, the virtual cursor should still work just
fine.) Press JAWSKey+T to find out what application was put into
focus, if any.

Give that a try and keep us posted,

Grant

Good evening everyone,
Is it possible to make word files as read only files? If so, how do you go
about making them as read only files. I'm specifically referring too those
files that have a dot doc extension, or files that may have a txt extension
as well.

Hi Grant,

Your issue with the control+alt+down arrow happens with me on occasion
also,
but not only on Gmail web pages, also on any page utilizing a data
table.

I just get to a spot, and it won't go down any further.

On some occasions, if I try to go up, it won't go either, or left or
right,
so I'm not sure what the problem is, as I have checked all my settings
and

just attributed it to a bug with Jaws.

Just so you know that I am able to duplicate it on my system running
Jaws

10, latest build, Windows XP Home and IE 7.

Re: [JAWS-Users] how to read XXXXXXXX

2009-04-03 Thread Grant Hardy
The setting you want is in the Text Processing dialog from the
Configuration Manager.

Press JAWSKey+F2 to land in the list of managers related to JAWS, and
choose Configuration Manager.
Now press CTRL+SHIFT+D to load the default file (assuming that you
want this setting to apply in all of your applications).
Press ALT+S for the Set Options menu, then choose Text Processing by pressing T.
The first control you will encounter is the setting you want. It is a
combo box titled Filter repeated characters. You can choose to say
the first three repeated characters (like x x x), say the first four
(x x x x), say the first five, the first six, say all of them, or
count them and tell you the number of characters that it found.
Simply arrow to your choice and then press ENTER. Press CTRL+S to
save your changes, ALT+F4 to exit out of the Configuration Manager,
and you're done.

Cheers,

Grant

Go into the Configuration manager with JAWSKey+6, (press ctrl+shift+d if you
want to change the default also); then alt+s for Set Options, t for Text
Options. You land on Filter Repeated Characters and there is a group of
six radiobuttons.  Choose 6 of 6 if you want a count of repeated characters;
ok the change by tabbing to and pressing enter on OK, and agree to save when
exiting.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws stops reading web pages

2009-04-03 Thread Desiree Oudinot
Hi all, I am using Jaws 10 and the latest version of Firefox. When I
am browsing web pages, sometimes Jaws will just stop reading
everything. I try to move around with the arrows, opening the links
list (and it says 0 items), use tab, and refresh the page, but even
though the page is loaded, Jaws will not read it. Any ideas on what
the problem might be?

Sounds like they have no intention of fixing this problem for now. To
get the web page address, I just Control-Home to the top of the page and
press JAWS key-F1.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Accessing a window with in a screen

2009-04-03 Thread Mark
Hi Grant,
I did as you suggested and tried the F 6 key. That didn't get the PC
cursor to the new window. So, I moved the JAWS cursor over the text in the new
window and found a E-Mail address with a different color text. By clicking on
it I was able to open my default E-Mail program with the address filled in the
address field. The main reason I need the PC cursor in the new window is so I
can control the window. Things like scrolling text to find more information
appear to be handled very differently with the JAWS cursor. I accidently
clicked a button on the bottom right of the screen that made the text larger I
think. Any way it made the left side of the text disappear.
I appreciate any more thoughts you have.

God bless,
Mark

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Accessing a window with in a screen

Grant
