If you're talking about the jaws update, most people are going directly to
the web site. If you're talking about windows messenger, it's not worth it
without the new jaws 10 update. It's doable, but takes a lot of patients.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Autosizer problems

2009-04-06 Thread Mike & Barbara
Hi Roger,

I haven't had any luck with any version of Autosizer after 1.6. I kept
having focus problem issues also and the newer versions of Autosizer were
the culprit. Here is a minor issue that you or somebody may have a solution
for. I went into options and checked the box "Play the default system sound
after a window is AutoSized" but, can't seem to get the option working.
Would you or any of you fellow listers have any suggestions on how to get
this feature working? All help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much,
take care.
Mike

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Autosizer problems

Hi Listers,
I was having a problem with Autosizer version 1.7.1. The difficulty seemed
to be a focus issue with IE 7. When IE is open, OE misreports the status
of read and unread messages. I uninstalled V1.7.1 and reinstalled V1.6.0.
There are no apparent problems with V1.6.0. I located V1.7.0 and installed
it, but it too misbehaved like V1.7.1. For now I am staying with V1.6.0.

this must be a new version, because the one I am using is not friendly to

Hi Listers,

The below was just posted on another blindness related list and will
very likely be compattible with jaws:

http://thegeekyspot.com/download-software-vlc-media-player/

media player update VLC 0.99

Description: VLC (initially VideoLAN Client) is a highly portable
multimedia player
for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3,
ogg...) as
well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols.

It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in
IPv4 or IPv6 on
a high-bandwidth network.VLC is a free cross-platform media player; it
supports a
large number of multimedia formats, without the need for additional
codecs; and it
can also be used as a streaming server, with extended features (video on
demand, on
the fly transcoding, etc. (Windows 2000 / XP / 2003 / Vista / XP64 /

[JAWS-Users] Autosizer problems

2009-04-06 Thread Roger Levine
Hi Listers,
I was having a problem with Autosizer version 1.7.1. The difficulty seemed to
be a focus issue with IE 7. When IE is open, OE misreports the status of read
and unread messages. I uninstalled V1.7.1 and reinstalled V1.6.0. There are no
apparent problems with V1.6.0. I located V1.7.0 and installed it, but it too
misbehaved like V1.7.1. For now I am staying with V1.6.0.

Re: [JAWS-Users] regarding flash player

2009-04-06 Thread Donald Marang

When you are within the Flash movie portion of the webpage does JAWS
announce any buttons? Normally, JAWS will know that there graphic controls
on the page but Flash does not provide any information through MSAA about
their function. The buttons are announced in sequential numbers like "0",
"1",

"3"and so on. If you are daring, just press the Spacebar or the Enter key
on the buttons and see what happens. (I know I skipped a number. That's
what typically happens. There are probably other controls that are not
visible.)

There is not much you can do as an end user to make the Flash Player more
accessible. The latest version of Flash Professional CS4 makes the
accessibility we all want and you are describing as the default in the Flash
Player that the developer builds for his site. The developer still needs to
add two extra lines to enable the accessibility. YouTube must have been
working with Adobe, because the same day that Adobe announced the release of
Flash CS4, YouTube had the improved Flash Player on their website. I love
their new Flash Player! I use it as an example all the time.

The only way I know to make sites like this more accessible is to send an
email to the site developer or webmaster to explain your problems with
accessibility and what you would like to see different. Let them know that
the latest Adobe software should make this easy. Adobe is making progress
with Flash accessibility. But sometimes I doubt their devotion to this
cause. Last Monday they sponsored a Webinar on Flash Accessibility and
compliance with Web Content Accessibility Group (WCAG). This was great and
I provided the link below. Unfortunately, they do not practice what they
preach. The Webinar is available in a Flash Player with no accessible
playback controls! I am sending them an email next.

[JAWS-Users] Activation problem

2009-04-06 Thread Potter, Kurtis
Hi everyone,

I was upgraded to JAWS 10 at work today. I am having trouble with the
activation. I have tried doing the Internet activation and received the
message that it worked, but JAWS is still in 40 minute mode. I then
went to fsactivate.com and put in my authorization number and locking
code to get my authorization number. I entered this into JAWS and again
was told my authorization was successful. JAWS is still in 40 minute
mode. I restarted my computer and tried a second time. I have
administration rights.
I, in the past, have had no problems activating JAWS. does anyone have
any ideas?

Thanks,
Kurt

Re: [JAWS-Users] creating braille table forf Jaws

2009-04-06 Thread Marijan Janev
Hi Chung!
If you know the unicode values of the graphemes of your language and
there Braille aquivalents, then the only thing you should do is to open
notepad and create a table where you put the unicode values, put sign =
and after that you should put the Braille equivalent.
The name of that file should have the .jbt extention. Put it into the
jaws program folder and you should see it under braille tables.
Good luck!

Hello,

How do you read the contents of a cell in Excel 2003 with Jaws 10?
The cell contains about 1 page of text.

When I press f2 to go into edit mode, I can't seem to be able to use my arrow
keys to read the text.

Thank you for any help.

Hi Gerald,

You can virtualize the screen to make the text copy ready for the
clipboard
by pressing the key combination of insert+control+W, at which point,
you'll

be able to arrow through the information, highlight the relevant text you
want to copy, then copy it to the clipboard, ready for pasting to where
ever

you need it.

Hope this helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Highlighting Text While Using JAWS Cursor

2009-04-06 Thread Chris Hallsworth
Have you ever looked at the virtualize current window or virtualize current
control feature? You'll need the virtualize window feature for this, unless
the key is inside of a control. To virtualize the window, press JAWS
key+CTRL+w. It will render as a web page, so you can navigate it, select and
copy text, etc, just like you would on a web page.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Highlighting Text While Using JAWS Cursor

Hi listers. Is there any way to highlight text while using the JAWS cursor?
I will probably have to upgrade to AVG 8.5 soon, because support for 7.5 is
apparently ending on April 30. This may involve entering my AVG license
key, which contains more than 30 characters, into an edit field during the
update/registration procedure. However, the license key is located on the
AVG About submenu and is readable only by using the JAWS cursor. I would
like to highlight the license key so that I can copy it to the clipboard for
subsequent pasting into a notepad file or email message that I can save for
easy retrieval. But placing the JAWS cursor at the beginning of the license
key and pressing Shift in combination with any of the arrow keys does not
seem to select the characters in the key. Switching back to the PC cursor
renders the license key inaccessible. This is my only record of the license
key. So is there any way I can highlight the license key for copying and
pasting while using the JAWS cursor? Or must I memorize this long string of
characters and type it manually? Thanks for any help.

[JAWS-Users] A question about Jaws 9.0

2009-04-06 Thread buttercup

Hi all,

I'm currently using Jaws 9.0 and every time I press alt tab, it takes me to
the Jaws option.

When I had 7.0, I was able to eliminate this problem, but I don't remember
what I did.

Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Highlighting Text While Using JAWS Cursor

2009-04-06 Thread Victor
Hi Gerald,

You can virtualize the screen to make the text copy ready for the clipboard
by pressing the key combination of insert+control+W, at which point, you'll
be able to arrow through the information, highlight the relevant text you
want to copy, then copy it to the clipboard, ready for pasting to where ever
you need it.

Hope this helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] .mov DVD burner?

2009-04-06 Thread Brian Lee

Hello Riana,

Windows Media Player 11 only burns data DVDS. Files are only copied and not
converted into the file formats required for playing a DVD movie in most
stand-alone DVD players. It can certainly be used for backup or storage but
it doesn't encode and burn a DVD that will play in most DVD players. In
other words, there is no DVD authoring with Windows Media Player and only
data DVDS can be created.

Windows media player version 11 can also burn dvd's and you basically
use the same method than when burning cd's. It just takes longer.

Hello chase,

DVDFlick is a good DVD authoring and burning tool for many video file
types
including QuickTime .MOV files. A few weeks ago, I recorded an audio
file
to show how the program can be used with JAWS. Although controls are
not
easily accessed using the PC cursor, they can be quite easily used by
using
the JAWS cursor and simulating mouse clicks. I have put the audio file
that
I recorded for a couple other people on the list along with the version
of
DVDFlick that I use in a zip file on SendSpace. If you want to try it
out
then the link to the page where the file can be downloaded is shown
below.
The audio step-by-step file was done without much preparation, but I
think
you will be able to follow it okay. Feel free to contact me at my
E-mail
address below if I can give you any more info about using DVDFlick.
Here is

2009-04-06 Thread Sherri
Don't I have to un-install my current version first? When I go to control
panel, I see three things, Windows Live Essentials, Windows Live Upload tool
and some other Windows messenger item I can't remember what it is, but I
don't see any particular version of Windows Live to uninstall. Do I just
uninstall those three items? Thanks.

Hi all, if you don't like Windows Live 2009, or your screen reader
doesn't

support it, you can downgrade to Windows Live 8.1 by doing the following:
1. Google for "zap messenger", with quotes.
2. Download the tool, run it, and click start. (for Vista users you will
be

challenged by UAC, so press alt+a to allow.)
3. Google for "Windows Live 8.1", again with quotes.
4. Download, install, and you should now have an accessible Windows Live
experience.
Enjoy!
