Re: [JAWS-Users] I am getting far more information than I want

2009-04-27 Thread Jewel
In the end, the resolution of the over enthusiastic reading of just about
everything on the screen was very simple.
In all the years that I ran 98, I * never installed an update, and therefore,
knew very little about the things.
This morning, I was taking a constitutional through settings and came to
automatic updates. Now, a friend of mine had spoken of these mysterious pieces
of software and said that they were, more often, beneficial rather than harmful.
I took a look at it and saw that it was set to download updates at 3am. Good
grief! my computer is away with the fairies in the land of Nod at that
unearthly hour of the morning, so I set it for midday.
12pm came and I was in the middle of writing an unsaved letter to my sister,
when, suddenly, the computer switched itself off. Bugger! what had I done to
cause this calamity?
The computer then came back on the air, and explained that a critical update
had been installed and for it to take effect, a reboot had been necessary.
OK! I lost the letter, but, that could be rewritten, but OH JOY! OH WONDER!
all the reading problems had disappeared.

[JAWS-Users] Keystrokes to determine where the cursor is when using Word

2009-04-27 Thread Francis E. Khan
I am trying to remember the keystrokes to use in Word to determine where on the
page my cursor is. For example, if I am 5 inches from the top and in the
middle of a line, please refresh my memory.

I am not senile but for some reason, I cannot remember how to access this

Re: [JAWS-Users] I am getting far more information than I want

2009-04-27 Thread Baracco, Andrew W
Usually, when the updates are finished downloading, a dialogue will pop
up asking you if you want to restart now or later. Depending on the
program you are working in at the time, the dialogue may or may not grab
focus. If you do not respond within 5 minutes, your PC will
automatically restart. If you were sighted, you would see the dialogue
in another window, but unless you are expecting it, or unless it happens
to grab focus, you won't know it's there until your speech goes away and
you hear the shutting down music.

[JAWS-Users] using Mozilla

2009-04-27 Thread Steve Heflin
I just joined the list today so I know there is much I have missed. What I'm
needing is the info on how to get Mozilla FireFox to read word graphics.
I have been told that there is a program to capture these, if anyone knows
please contact me, thanks Steve.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Can't Seem To Close Microsoft Outlook 2000 down

2009-04-27 Thread Mike Barbara
Hi Donnie,

Follow these steps to remove unwanted icons from the System Tray:

1. Press Windows key, then Escape.
2. Tab to the Task Bar and press Alt-Enter to bring up the Task Bar
Properties dialog.
3. On the Task Bar page, tab to the Notification area customize dialog and
hit Enter.
4. Arrow down the list of icons and find the icon you want to remove or
hide. Press the right arrow to the combo box and select always hide.
5. Repeat step 4 for each icon you want to hide.
6. Tab to Okay, hit Space and tab again to Okay and hit Space. That's it.

BTW: MalwareBytes is another free alternative to Super Anti Spyware, but you
can use both if you want, as long as you run them at different times.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Iris OCR

2009-04-27 Thread Mark
Hi Larry,
I have outstanding success with Iris OCR software. It is mostly JAWS
friendly strait from the box. The one place you may want help is setting the
scanner type. There some boxes there one has to use the JAWS cursor to access.
For instance duplex scanning. Once you have that set up, do an alt F. to bring
up the file menu. arrow down to save default settings. press enter and follow
the questions on the screen to save your scanner settings. You only need to go
through this process once.
To scan press control D. then answer the prompts. once you are don
scanning press enter tab twice and press enter again. you should be on the main
screen. then press control R. to recognize the text and save it to file.
I have scanned countless text books for college this way. I love Iris OCR
software. If there is any thing else I can do to help please let me know.

God bless,
Mark

Hi Folks,

I just found a great deal on an HP-5590 flatbed scanner. It
comes bundled with Iris OCR software and wanted to find out
if you guys had any success with that application.
I am using JFW 9.latest and Windows-XP Pro.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Can't Seem To Close Microsoft Outlook 2000 down

2009-04-27 Thread Baracco, Andrew W
This happens to me too, when using JFW with Outlook 2003. Apparently,
ALT F4 doesn't really close the program, only minimizes it. To actually
close it, you need to go into the Windows Task Manager with
CONTROL-ALT-DELETE and end the process.

Hi folks,

Do any of you have experience with

so that I can pick up my work from anywhere.
I cursored about the home page and opened their file
download dialog and it all seems reasonably jaws friendly.

Hi,
I think outlook is still open in the system tray. Try going to the system tray
with jaws key+f11 and then arrow around until you find Microsoft outlook.
Press enter. The context menu should appear. Up arrow to close outlook.
