[JAWS-Users] how to use the appointments and contacts features in outlook using jaws

2009-05-14 Thread Frederick White
Greetings everyone,

As always it is my heart felt prayer that everyone is in good
health and in good spirits. The reason I'm writing today Is to ask if there
is somewhere I can go on the web to find step by step instructions on how to
use the appointments and contacts features in outlook 2003. I really want to
learn how to use this program to the fullest. So, If anyone out there can
give me any directions or guidance it would be gladly appreciated.

Thanks in advance! Blue skies and green lights!

With great power comes great responsibility.

Sincerely yours,

Fred

[JAWS-Users] Opening a PDF file

2009-05-14 Thread Mike Barbara
Hi all,

We received an attachment in the form of a PDF file from our CPA. There are
no graphics. It is just a straight letter but, when I try to convert it
with Adobe it says, Alert, Empty document. Is there something that I can
do so Jaws will read this letter? I also tried to copy it but, when I try
to select all I get this message, This is a secure document. Selection is
not allowed. I had my better half look at the attachment and that is how I
know that the letter contains only text. I am running XP/SP3 Home, Office
Home 2002, Adobe 9.1, Jaws 10 latest. All help will be greatly
appreciated. Thanks much, take care.

2009-05-14 Thread Ann byrne
You need OCR software--OpenBook, OmniPage, Kurzweil--something like
that. Then either print the document and scan it in, or use the OCR
software to interpret it.

If you have OpenBook
1) Open the document with Adobe.
2. Go to print in the files menu and press enter.
3. At 02:07 PM 5/14/2009, you wrote:Instead of your default printer,
choose the Freedom Import Printer and press enter.

OpenBook should wake up in a few seconds, process the document, and
turn it into text.

Good luck!

Do these steps work pretty much the same way in Windows Mail?

I use Outlook, but I know someone who is having a hard time setting up

Thanks for the tips, Mike.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] One more step-OE rules-Re: Making a JAWS floder?

I have one additional step to add to the steps for adding a new mail rule
that I found very helpful. I found it on an OE advice website.
I was having a lot of trouble since I have quite a few rules set up and
things were ending up in weird folders.
 This really helped.
After the following step in the list below
 7. Now tab once to Actions list. You will see or hearMove it to the
specified folder. Again, press the space bar one time.

 Addition to this step:
Use the arrow key to move down the list and also press space bar on Stop
 processing rules.
This causes Oe to put the particular email immediately into the named
folder
and not to continue down the list of rules looking for others that might
 apply.

Then go and follow the steps that were given before.
I also make sure these are near the top of the list so that they will be
 processed first.

If you only have one or two rules this might not be necessary but I have
15
rules so far so it really helps.

 Hi Rich,

First open each of your Jaws folders and move the messages into your In
Box.
After all of your messages are in your In Box highlight each folder and
delete it except for one. This is the folder you are going
to import your messages into. I have tweaked Making Message Rules a
little
bit so try following the steps the way they are below. If you still can't
get it done and you are in the U.S. or Canada I may be able to help you
over
the phone. I hope these steps will get you over the hump though. Take
 care.

it is a portable document format file. Sighted people love it, because it
is very flexible. you can copy all sorts of things to a pdf and then send
it to whoever, or put it on a Web site for download. There is a free
program available called Adobe Reader

www.adobe.com/

plus an Adobe Acrobat writer (which must be purchased), available to make

Do these steps work pretty much the same way in Windows Mail?

I use Outlook, but I know someone who is having a hard time setting up
folder rules in Windows Mail.

Take

Hi Andrés,

Do you see a Windows media Button? If you tab after that, you should see a
Now Playing button. Tab again, and there's a now Playing menu button.
I haven't followed this from the beginning. In the view menu, you need to
press enter on View Enhancements to have that checked. Make sure you have
Full Mode checked by pressing enter on it also from the view menu. There
are about 30 tab stops in the Windows Media Player pane.

Hi Ken,

name's Flor without a trailing a at the end, please. Male like yourself.
yes, the pDF can accomodate many different file formats. the only thing
that really matters is that the document should be viewable in one way or
another. So you can have elements of HTML, text, images, audio, Flash,
etc., etc, all in the one document. Where images are concerned,
screen-readers can't read them. Thus the need to convert such images to OCR
with programs like Open Book, Kurzweil 1000, FineReader, OmniPage, pdf2txt,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Opening a PDF file

2009-05-14 Thread Dale Leavens
Actually it stands for portable document format (PDF) Originally it started
as a method of creating one standard which various printers could render at
a time when the output from a word processor to a printer depended on the
printers and the codes one could send to the printer. As many printers had
unique codes the appearance of a printed document might vary a lot from one
printer to another. If the document was converted to the .PDF format it
could be rendered in a common way regardless of the word processor which
created it. Of course it has all evolved a long way from that since.

Those documents which appear to be blank to our screen reading technology
but which are text on the screen to sighted people are like that because
they are pictures of text. To understand that you need to understand that
text created and rendered in say Microsoft Word or HTML (Hypertext mark-up
language) is actually a series of numbers which the programmes interpret as
letters. Jaws can intercept those numbers and render them as letters. Text
though which is a picture is simply a series of dots or lack of dots on the
screen which Jaws cannot differentiate from the dots which might make up an
image of your pet cat.

An OCR (Optical Character Recognition ) programme can assess those dots and
try to recognize patterns as letters and if it can do this create a
rendering of text. This works the same way as when you place a paper with
text on a scanner, scan it in where it too is rendered as an image for the
OCR software to process.

One reason why people like those formats is that it is very difficult to
edit or otherwise change the content of the document. Another reason is that
what ever word processor one has, downloading the .PDF reader which is free
will render the document readable to the sighted anyway.

Hope this helps understand those apparently blank .PDF files.

Dale Leavens.

title of the song that I'm currently listening, but I'm a very
active ACB radio listener, so I want to know how to do it. I use the
ACB radio tuner with Windows media player and JAWS 8.
Greetings from Colombia in south america, Andres
