[JAWS-Users] jaws 11 and combo boxes

2009-09-04 Thread David Ferrin
There seems to be an issue with combo boxes at least for me at this time. I can
open them up but not maneuver inside them at all. The only option is the first.
Is anybody else having such a problem? I am running XP pro with a 3.2 GHZ
system and 2 GB of memory.

[JAWS-Users] are there any special settings needed for using IE 8 with Jaws

2009-09-04 Thread jason smith
Hi list,
I installed Internet explorer 8 a few weeks or so ago. Every now and then, I
get a message coming up, asking me if I want to configure IE 8, or something
like that. So far, I have just been choosing the option for it to remind me in
another 7 days. I did have a look through the settings options it provides when
this menu comes up. But I was unsure as to what(or if any) of these options
should I choose? Are there any I need to make in order to make IE8 work best
with Jaws?
thanks Jason

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 11 beta not reading Titles in Excel!

2009-09-04 Thread Donald Marang
Hi list,

I started playing with the new JAWS 11 beta last night. Since it is the
beginning of the month, I attempted to update a few spreadsheets. Of course, I
needed to set my Title column and row settings since this is a new installation
of JAWS. Unfortunately, the settings would not be saved and the titles are
never read! After setting to read both column and row titles and set their
cell in the verbosity dialog, JAWS announces spreadsheet settings saved.
However, the settings have not been saved and the titles are not read.

Has anyone else noticed this problem? I am following the same procedure I have
used for years, back to JAWS 4.7 I think. Are there extra steps in JAWS 11?

I know there is a way to embed the title information directly into the
spreadsheet file. This would be handy. Does anyone know how this is done?

2009-09-04 Thread Brian Lee

Hello Donald,

In Excel 2007 move to the intersection of column and row titles. Press the
application key and down arrow to the name a range choice and press enter.
In order to only hear column titles as you arrow across a row type in
ColumnTitle (without the quotes and no spaces between the words. Use
mixed case). In order to hear only row titles as you use the down arrow key
type in RowTitle using mixed case and no spacing. If you want to hear both
row and column titles type in the word Title.

I am not at a system with Excel 2003 or earlier but the choice should likely
be under the insert menu and should have to do with naming or defining a
range.

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] IE 8 problem solved

2009-09-04 Thread Janelle Vacanti
Hi All,
I just wanted to let you all know that the IE 8 problem that I was having with
my new laptop and JAWS 9 has been solved. I was listening to one of Rick
Harmon's podcasts and he said something about having a certain version of JAWS
9 to work with IE 8. So I went to update my JAWS 9 and got an error report.
Then it said to do a repair on JAWS. So I did that and tried to update again
and this time the update worked. So now I can use IE 8 with JAWS 9 and Windows
Vista.

2009-09-04 Thread Donald Marang

Thanks Brian,

This is very helpful and will save time every time I make a copy of these
files or install a new version of JAWS. It works great with JAWS 10. It
still does not work all of the time on my installation of JAWS 11! I seem
to be able to have it read the titles if I do the following:

1. Name the range Title for the intersecting cell as you outlined.

2. Go back to the intersecting cell, and press Insert + V.

3. Set the override titles for just this file.

4. set the title reading detection to read both titles.

5. Set the column and row and press Enter.

Just setting this Named range in the file itself does not seem to work.
Likewise, setting it manually, the settings are not saved. I attempted to
duplicate this strange override quirk on several other files without
success! This one has me baffled. Does setting this named range and / or
setting it through the verbosity dialog work in JAWS 11 for you?

Re: [JAWS-Users] question about outlook

2009-09-04 Thread Brian Lee

Hello Kimsan

Outlook has a repair tool for repairing PST files. However, before running
the tool I suggest you export your current PST file as a backup. There are
a couple other things you should try first. Only use the PST repair as a
last resort.

Make sure that all Office programs are closed. Open task manager by using
CTRL+shift+escape. Move to the processes page. Go through the list of
processes and end all occurrences of Outlook.exe and Winword.exe. Be sure
to check for more than one instance of each of those entries. Use the end
task button for all instances. Restart your system and then restart
Outlook.

Sometimes an add-in can cause the type of problem you are having with
Outlook. check under tools menu, Trust Center, and the add-ins category to
find out if any add-ins could be causing the problem. Check under COM
add-ins as well. This is probably not the cause and you don't want to
disable or remove an add-in that is working for you so don't disable
anything that you are not sure of, but if you find a very suspicious add-in
then you might disable it to find out if it resolves the problem.

If the problem continues then you can do a PST repair but be sure to backup
first. Here is how to export your current PST file as a backup:

Use Alt+F to go into the file menu in Outlook. , Press enter key on the
Import and Export choice.

Choose Export to a file, and then choose the Next button.
In the list, pick the Personal Folder File (.pst), and then choose the
next button.
Pick the folder that contains the messages you want to back up. If the
folder contains a subfolder that you want to include then check the box for
including subfolders and then tab to the Next button and use spacebar. In
the save exported file as box use the browse button and specify a name and
location for your backup file. Move to the finish button and press enter
key. Remember where this backup is so that if you need to import it you
will be able to.

Here is how to use the PST repair tool:
Open computer from the start menu. Open program files. Open Microsoft
Office. Open Office 12. Find the file ScanPST.exe and press enter key.
You will need to browse to the data file. The default location is
c:\Users\Kimsan\app data\local\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.pst.

Follow the prompts for the repair of the Outlook inbox.

It might appear that you have lost your messages when you start Outlook
again but they are saved in a folder (I can't remember the name of the
folder created). However, if you have trouble getting messages back from
the created folder then you can use the import wizard to bring them in from
the backed up PST file.

If you have to import then on the File menu choose Import and Export.
Choose Import from another program or file and then tab to the Next button
and press enter key. Choose personal Folder File (.pst), and then choose
the next button.
In the File to import box, specify the path and file name of the .pst file
you want to import. It will be the file you created with the export
function. Follow the remaining instructions in the Import and Export
Wizard.

Take care.

Hi,
I am using ie8 with Jaws 10 and I am not aware of anything I did specially
about ie8. It is however worthwhile to look at the jaws configuration
manager ...

html options and word processing are the most important ones.
Sorry for my bad english. I am not a native speaker.

Re: [JAWS-Users] question about outlook

2009-09-04 Thread Brian Lee
Hi Kimsan,

You might want to try disabling add-ins and then enabling them one-by-one to
see if one of them is the culprit. Here is how to do it in Outlook 2007:

1. Make sure Outlook is closed.
2. Bring up the run dialog by using Windows key with R.
3. type in outlook /safe (that is the word Outlook followed by a space
followed by a forward slash followed by the word safe. Press enter key.
4. At this point if you get a dialog asking about making Outlook the default
Email program or similar type messages answer yes or no.
5. When in the list of messages and in the Outlook safe mode use Alt+T for
tools and arrow up to the trust center choice and press enter.
6. Use up or down arrow key until you get to the add-in category.
7. Tab to the go button and press enter key.,
8. There should be a list of add-ins presented. Move up and down the list
using arrow keys. use spacebar to uncheck those that are checked.
9. Tab to OK and press enter key.
10. Close Outlook and open it again in its regular mode. If it opened without
any problem then go back into the list of add-ins and check them one-by-one.
Close Outlook after each one is checked and open it again. This is a lengthy
process but it might identify an add-in giving trouble.

I have heard that the Windows Search indexer helper add-in has caused this type
of problem for some people.

If this doesn't solve the problem and running the scanPST.EXE inbox repair
didn't work then I am not sure what to suggest. Being that you have
reinstalled and repaired Outlook, it sure seems like it could be a problem with
an add-in.

Take care.
