Re: [JAWS-Users] Talking Digital TV

2009-09-07 Thread Victoria Vaughan
I've been going through a lot of email, so I can't remember if it was you,
who said he gets accessibility with his satellite disk? If that is a viable
option, first I want to try it, and second, it could be a prod to get cable
interested.
What about the "Access To Information" act? Do you think we could use it in
some kind of suit? If we got ACB and NFB and may be WGBH of Boston, who
produces description Video Services all in on such a mition, do you think we
could accomplish anything?

Hello Victoria.
Good luck in your effort in trying to contact your cable company, to tell
them about this technology regarding accessability too on screen menus.
Unfortunately, I have tried for many years either through letters and
phone calls, to talk too them about this problem that we as blind people
have, and have met with more resistants then I care too tell you about.
Even our local chapter of the a c b here in New your city, wrote them a
letter asking them if they could send a representative from the company,
too discuss this on going problem, and as yet, we never hurd from them at
all. I even took it upon myself at one point, too write a letter, as well
as making a few phone calls, and have had no success for my efforts. This
is what happens, when companies put profit, before customers concerns, and
feel that they are so large, that they don't have too account too anyone
for there actions.

out how to contact the company making Ocean Blue Software. My cable
company is an easy matter to contact and I will let them know about this
and urge others in my blind community to request this.

Since this adaption is possible, do you think that it might lead to on
screen accessibility to DVD information? That's been a major
disappointment of mine for years! I thought when I first got computer
with a TV tuner card and Windows XP entertainment Center, that all this

believe when you go down from that round part that there is a like kind of
semi-circle thing that has like four or five buttons and it is the third

And if there is not any description, it will make a sound and if there is
other description like spanish or another language it will play in that

I don't know why my locals aren't described. I contacted dvs and they said
it has to do with how the direct tv locals are going through the sattilite
or something. tnt has law and order (not svu or anything just law and
order) described and tcm has a lot of movies discribed.
Also you can set your dvr to record from a computer and press the buttons at

te bottom of the round arrow thing that is like rectangle and then the slect

button in the middle of the arrows and then play or use the arrows to
scrooll through the stuf on er dvr. Then to del you go back one arrow, the

and receive the broadcasts from three sats through a very accessible
software with Jaws for windows. I think of preparing a podcast regarding
this topic actually.

[JAWS-Users] accessing menus

2009-09-07 Thread Kimsan
 Hi
I am very interested in reading about what folks have been talking about as it
relates to accessing menus on our television screens.

I'm no longer a TV kind of guy but I can see how it will come in handy,
though.
Who will be putting this out? Where will it be available? ETC? Does anyone
have an article or link they could pass on?

Here here! I think that you're appsolutely right! I'm trying to figure
out how to contact the company making Ocean Blue Software. My cable
company is an easy matter to contact and I will let them know about this
and urge others in my blind community to request this.

Since this adaption is possible, do you think that it might lead to on
screen accessibility to DVD information? That's been a major
disappointment of mine for years! I thought when I first got computer
with a TV tuner card and Windows XP entertainment Center, that all this
info would now be accessible. Oh foolishly, over optimistic, sadly
disappointed, me!

Caret K is not allowed in the replace field but Caret M produces a page

I mistakenly gave you caret p which is the paragraph symbol in my earlier

Still curious about what $K does.

Hello Victoria.
Good luck in your effort in trying to contact your cable company, to tell
them about this technology regarding accessability too on screen menus.
Unfortunately, I have tried for many years either through letters and phone
calls, to talk too them about this problem that we as blind people have, and
have met with more resistants then I care too tell you about. Even our
local chapter of the a c b here in New your city, wrote them a letter asking
them if they could send a representative from the company, too discuss this
on going problem, and as yet, we never hurd from them at all. I even took
it upon myself at one point, too write a letter, as well as making a few
phone calls, and have had no success for my efforts. This is what happens,
when companies put profit, before customers concerns, and feel that they are
so large, that they don't have too account too anyone for there actions.

Look at the Reading order dialogue, which is got with ctrl-shift-5.
change the reading order to be the second or the third radiobutton
checked, from top to bottom or from raw print stream; ; and also have
the view visible pages only (radiobutton checked), instead of the entire
document. those settings should help. If those settings still do not
resolve your problem, we'll have a look in the accessibility settings

Since this adaption is possible, do you think that it might lead to on

Good to know this is not just a problem for me. Have you noticed how the
voice inflection does not change in Outlook 2007 when there is a comma at
the end of the phrase? Vs. when there isn't?
Try reading this in Jaws 10:
"Hi Jimmy,

And then in Jaws 11.

Hi Kimsan,
I'm assuming you want page breaks instead?
If not, then substitute the appropriate character in the replace section in
the example below.

Jon

Notice the punctuation below.
You make the "^) symbol by shifting the 6 on the number row.
In the find field enter ^b (section break symbol)and in the replace field
type ^p (Page break symbol)

You can turn this off by doing the following.
While in Word 2007 do an alt t followed by the letter o.
This will bring up a list of categories. Up or down arrow to, popular.
Tab to, open email attachments if full screen reading mode and uncheck it.

Hi Fina,
If you can print this out yourself and enlarge the font a bit in Ms-Word,
Notepad or Wordpad, the commands are all in the JFw help system.

If your JFw runs in the system tray press JawsKeyPlusJ followed by h,
then

k.

If not:
Alt plus tab to the Jaws Window, alt plus h followed by K.

From there you select the book you want in the tree view (expanding the

books with the right arrow or collapsing them with left arrow).
press enter on the book you choose and then F6.
This brings you to a web page containing lists of keystrokes which you
can

copy to your clipboard.
You press F6 again to get back to the tree view where you can pick
another

book of commands to print out.
You can append subsequent lists to the clipboard with WindowsKeyPlusC and
build yourself quite a nice reference sheet of keyboard commands.

2009-09-07 Thread Flor Lynch

For those large documents at least, switch to single-page view.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Problem with Adobe Reader 9

Hello,
Lately I stumble upon the folowing problem:
When I open a pdf file with adobe reader 9 Jaws 9 or 10 I can read the
first page. When I then press strg+pgdwn to read the next page in a
big document jaws wouldN't show this page. When I close adobe reader
and open the same document again it shows me the second page since it
opens at the point where I left the document. So I know that actually
turning pages works. But Jaws doesn't do it any more.
When I switch to reading the whole document at ones I can bypass this
problem but this is not possible with big documents with loads of
images since my cpu gets overloaded.

Any suggestions are welcome.
Best Regards
Jeronimo

[JAWS-Users] Problem With Outlook 2007 and JAWS 11

2009-09-07 Thread Michael Hansen
Hello everyone,

I am having a bit of a problem with Outlook 2007 and JAWS. Over the last
couple of days, whenever I arrow up and down through the Outlook message
list, JAWS says "Not selected" before reading the rest of the message info.

This did not happen by default when I installed Outlook 2007 earlier this
week (I had to reinstall Windows) and I'm wondering if this is a JAWS
problem or if I made some change (the only things I've done is to turn off
all of the reading and navigation paigns, etc.) that may have prompted this?

Thanks,

Michael

Re: [JAWS-Users] Talking Digital TV

2009-09-07 Thread Soner Çoban

Hello folks,
Why do you not switch to satelite broadcast rather than cable with a digital
tv card and a dish on the roof? I currently use digital tv card and receive
the broadcasts from three sats through a very accessible software with Jaws
for windows. I think of preparing a podcast regarding this topic actually.

Yes, I finally got the chance too read it. I have been trying for years,
fighting with our cable company to provide us with the ability to be able
too access those dammed on screen menus, but have had no success. I hope
that this technology will finally open a door that has been closed too us.
If their's a way too do it, I think that we should all send them an email
thanking them for trying to develop this project, and send them stories
of our frustration in trying too get the cable industry in particular, too
listen too our concerns especially when you consider the fact that we who
are blind, and listen too movies and other events, pay a monthly
subscription service and don't have the same rightsthat people with vision
have.

Hi Albert, Were you able to read this fantastic article? I sure hope
we'll be able to get it and that it will work with JAWS!

The article says that RNIB will be carrying Ocean Blue's Software. I
went to RNIB's web page and I couldn't find how to request more info on
this product. If anyone can figure that out, would you let us know? If
this is not yet proper for this list, you can write me offline at:

Many thanks for sharing this exciting information! Vicky

[JAWS-Users] laptop query

2009-09-07 Thread Marvin Hunkin
hi.
my dad purchase a acer aspire 5315.
using windows vista home basic.
my mum uses the internet.
if she leaves the machine say for 15 minutes.
the internet disconnects.
in the power options.
she has wake up password enabled.
so what options using windows narrator.
and only has only 512 mb ram.
a 1.7 ghz processor, 166 gb hard disk.
now what setting should i look for to change to make it not happen.
talked my mum through the power options.
in control panel and what the closing the lid does.
it is all set to sleep and one option to shut down.
must be some simple set up.
as my folks not too tech savy.
so any ideas.
tried using jaws 10 with ome basic, and got frustrated.
jaws kept jumping around all over the menus.
so afraid to use it on my parents laptop.
so looking at using narator.
and also turn off the user accounts.
as i have turned it off on my machine.
drives me crazy.
also set the screen saver to a longer period.
what other settings in vista to make my parents machine more responsive and
not so sluggish.
it seem to take a good five minutes to boot up.
browsing on the net is slow.
compared to my fast toshiba, 2 gb ram, 2ghz processor, 250 gb hard disl.
have told my dad to purchase more ram, but he is stubborn.
is it a difficult process to do?
or is it pretty simple just to open up another slot for ram.
then put in another slot of ram.
and how much.
cheers Marvin.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and Word2007

2009-09-07 Thread Denny Huff

Maria,

You can turn this off by doing the following.
While in Word 2007 do an alt t followed by the letter o.
This will bring up a list of categories. Up or down arrow to, popular.
Tab to, open email attachments if full screen reading mode and uncheck it.
Tab to OK and press enter.

If this is an attachment you are trying to read then you will need to
press escape. By default Word opens attachments in a reading layout
mode.

At work I'm using JAWS Version 9, and they've started using Word2007.
Whenever I open a .docx file JAWS won't read it at all.
Is there something I'm supposed to do to get JAWS to read this format?
Thanks in advance.

[JAWS-Users] Solo voices and jaws?

2009-09-07 Thread Carliss
Listers,

I've just received OpenBook64 bit for my 64 bit machine. I was told that
the solo voices will work for both OpenBook and Jaws, it's not doing that.

The solo voices only work in OpenBook. Can any body tell me, what could be
the problem? The only Sapi 5 voice that is working in Jaws, is anna,
(narrator).

The solo voices came with OpenBook, however,I was told that they will work
with Jaws as well.

Thanks for your help!

Carliss
