Re: [JAWS-Users] creating a website using jaws

You asked if it were possible to create a web page so I gave a couple of
examples is all. You'll have to search out some tutorials and so forth and
then of course find a provider to host it after registering a domain name.
It's a convoluted process to say the least. I wrote mine in notepad.

[JAWS-Users] Reading the whole line

2009-09-15 Thread Agent086b

Hello all,
are there JFW key strokes to read the whole line.
I use Thunderbird as my mail client, when arrowing down a list of
messages I hear the fields that are displayed in each message such as
subject, from, etc.
I have labelled a graphic at the beginning of a line that shows when a
message has an attachment. When arrowing down this list of messages JFW
does not say attachment unless I switch to the jaws cursor.. Then the
read current line works and says attachment.
When in pc cursor I must use the Jaws key + home to read from the
beginning of the line up to the cursor. Then I must do a read line Jaws
key + up arrow to read the rest of the information.

So hence my question is there keystrokes to do what I want?
Thanks for any help.
Max.

Hi Sherri,
When you write a web page in note pad you will need to learn how to
write in HTML code. I have done this before and you can make fine pages
doing this. On the other hand it can take a while if your page is very
large.

Re: [JAWS-Users] creating a website using jaws

2009-09-15 Thread Mark

Hi
For all the people who want a quick and easy way to create a web page I
will tell you how I do it in MS Word. I should mention that in order to have
other people view your page you will need to post your webpage on a web host
which is a completely different process that is beyond this E-Mail.
To create a webpage, first open MS Word. Next write your webpage being
sure to center headings, check your font size and color, and double check
your spelling. Yes, it is embarrassing to miss spell a word in front of the
entire world. Just the voice of experience here.
It is quite possible that you will want to link to other websites on
the web. To do this, type the entire website address for instance.
http://www.google.com
On my MS Word I just press enter at the end of the address and suddenly MS
Word converts it to a clickable link. Other wise you will need to check your
MS Word help to learn how to create links on your version of MS Word. I read
that a person can insert combo boxes but I never actually did this. So, I
would recommend checking the MS Word help for this. Once you are happy with
how the page looks/sounds, I would recommend saving it. MS Word is usually
set to save files as documents. I would save a master copy as a document.
Next do an ALT F to bring up the file menu. Down arrow to Save As and press
enter. You will be in a box showing the name of your file. Tab once and you
will be in the list of file types you can save your file as. In MS Word 2003
press the letter W until you land on Web Page Single File. In 2007 press W
until you land on Web Page Filtered. then tab to save and press enter. You
can now exit word.
To test your page, locate the file you just saved in the section above
and press enter. It should open in your web browser. If you like what you
see/hear, you are ready to up load it to the web. If you want to change some
thing, on the page, open MS Word. Then, do an alt F, arrow to open file,
press enter and navigate to your web page file. Be careful to check if you
are on your master document or your web file. MS Word will edit both.
I hope these instructions help. Feel free to experiment.

May God bless you in your web page programming,
Mark

Hi Mark,
So, if I were to do this in word, I would need to put in this word document
everything that goes on a webpage correct? Links, combo boxes, etc.

I want to create one but don't have the slightest idea of how to start.

Now the entire jaws list group can see how naïve I am.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws 11 expiration notice

2009-09-15 Thread Alan & Terrie Robbins
The strangest thing happened yesterday. I am running the Jaws 11 beta to see
how it works and report any issues prior to the final release. It has been
working very well with very few quirks. When I booted up my machine
yesterday Jaws 11 announced that this version of Jaws had expired and to
contact FS Technical support for assistance. I figured something had became
corrupt and I would simply repair or reinstall. I had a devil of a time
getting it off my machine. I then reinstalled and it gave me the same
message. I will send a beta report to FS as they do not like to provide over
the phone tech support on beta products according to their website. For some
reason it even affected my JAWS 10 where I lost speech and had to do a
reinstall which did require some sighted assistance. Has anyone else had a
similar issue?

thanks
Al

Go into your iTunes folder and copy the "iTunes Library.itl" file to

your

clipboard and put it somewhere. Then when you do manage to get the

older

iTunes installed, paste it over the existing iTunesLibrary.itl file it

will
create...unless your library is already there in iTunes first.

How do I go back to the previous version of itunes. If I uninstall

May God bless you in your web page programming,
Mark

Re: [JAWS-Users] creating a website using jaws

2009-09-15 Thread Mark

Hi
A landing page is the first page of a website. It is the page that you
land on when you click the link from a search engine ETC. Some web servers
will allow you to create other pages that you put links to from your main
page/landing page. Lets say you wanted to create a site on dogs. you might
put general information on the first page and links to other pages on your
site having to do with grooming, training, and so forth. One thing that is
also helpful is if the page designer puts captions on the graphics so JAWS
can read them. Smile.

God bless,

[JAWS-Users] Jaws saying name of active item

2009-09-15 Thread Sherri
I am using JFW 10 with Word 2003. I have looked through the configuration
manager with no success. In a Word document, in past versions, when I pressed
control E to center a line, Jaws would say "centered". If I then pressed
control L to return it to left justified, Jaws would say "left". Now, no item
is announced. This means I have to press Jaws key F to make sure my line is
truly centered or left justified. How do I get these keys to announce their
actions? I hope this explanation is understandable. Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] creating a website using jaws

2009-09-15 Thread Mark

Hi Kimsan,
I spent Several years studying how to make web pages on my own. It can
be confusing. The best thing I can say is that it is fun to experiment.
First try making a regular document that sounds and looks like a web page.
Then try the steps to save it to a single web page. If you enjoy the project
then you are ready to find a place to post it on the web. Unfortunately I
was using free web hosting and they decided to change their services. So my
site went away. I haven't had time in college to start another one. So, I
look forward to seeing other people making sites.

Always glad to help.

God bless,
Mark

The strangest thing happened yesterday. I am running the Jaws 11 beta
to see
how it works and report any issues prior to the final release. It has
been

working very well with very few quirks. When I booted up my machine
yesterday Jaws 11 announced that this version of Jaws had expired and
to
contact FS Technical support for assistance. I figured something had
became
corrupt and I would simply repair or reinstall. I had a devil of a
time

getting it off my machine. I then reinstalled and it gave me the same
message. I will send a beta report to FS as they do not like to
provide over
the phone tech support on beta products according to their website.
For some

reason it even affected my JAWS 10 where I lost speech and had to do a
reinstall which did require some sighted assistance. Has anyone else
had a

similar issue?

thanks

May God bless you in your web page programming,
Mark

It is accessible using a mac with voice over, but on windows with

fully accessibale. They say to use window eyes that is not much
different from Jaws.
So, if apple is claiming it's accessible then how come the itunes

Go into your iTunes folder and copy the "iTunes Library.itl" file to your
clipboard and put it somewhere. Then when you do manage to get the older
iTunes installed, paste it over the existing iTunesLibrary.itl file it will
create...unless your library is already there in iTunes first.

Hi,
I installed the update! I do not like it. You can buy stuff from the
store, but it is kinda complicated, and I can't figure out how to
listen
to the songs. Like, to preview them.
You go to the itunes store and then in the search box, type something
like "Boys like girls." If you know the name of the song like "She's
got
a boyfriend now." Type in "boys like girls she's got a boyfriend now."
If

you know the name of the album type the album name "Love Drunk" for
example or the artist and album "Boys like girls love drunk."
Then press enter. Next tab till you hear the album you want. Press
enter.

hen it will say something like View full album. Press enter then
ctrl+end

to go to the end of the screen. Press tab and you should hear it say
"buy

love drunk." For example and then tab again it it will say "Buy Two is
better than one featuring Taylor Swift." and I am assuming then you
press

enter on the song you wanna buy. It sould take you through the whole
album.
If I can figure out more, I will let you know. And, I was just using
that

[JAWS-Users] making my web page

2009-09-15 Thread Lenny McHugh
Well, I must first admit that I did not initially develop my web page. An
old high school friend whom I had not talked in 40 years started it when
catching up on old times. Then when he no longer could maintain it was up to
me.
I studied his html code and did a lot of copy and paste. I also did a lot of
searches to learn how to accomplish a particular task. When it comes to the
photographs I do require sighted help. I don't want a picture upside down.
I first had my sight posted on geocities and they since did away with the
free hosting. Looking around and reading reviews I decided on godaddy. When
you purchase your domain name they offer some free hosting with an add or
you can also elect for paid space with no add.
For a guest book I found smartgb.com Their site is extremely jaws friendly.
To edit my page I use notepad and if I come across something on another page
that I like I will under the view select sorce. I learned much by viewing
the source of other pages.
I intend to add a few landmarks to my page to help keep up to standards for
screen readers.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws 10 & Problem with Yahoo

Hi Listers, On Yahoo.com, everything works with Jaws just fine. On both

work with Jaws 10 and Windows XP. I have IE 7 on both computers. Has anyone
else encountered this problem? My guess is it has something to do with the page

Hi all.
My experience is that learning html is the best way to avoid future
problems. I have not created any sites in ms word but I do believe as
someone mentioned that word adds extra code and probably plenty of it. This
can make it difficult to update and maintain. At one point I created a site
in an app called NetObject fusion. This was when I was sighted and a couple
of years ago when I wanted to update it it was a total nightmare as it had
added so much extra code that finally I just scrapped the whole site and
started from scratch. You never have real control over what the program does
or how it does it. I don't much care for programs that think they know
better than I do what it is that I want to achieve.

I write code in html using wordpad, code xhtml, some php, add java,
streaming music which is extremely easy btw, and more.
What I don't know when it comes to word is the working of adding true
accessibility on a site. I add captions and alternate text myself where I
need it and I have full control. It is fun, frustrating when first starting
but worth the hours of reading and experimenting in my opinion.

Smile.

God bless,

So is a "web page" the same is a "landing page" loaded with content and a
few features like combo boxes, edit boxes, and buttons to play a video and
the visitor can interact with the page by just reading the content or lets
say subscribe to your news letter?
What role does all this html code plays?

Okay, thanks!
Not realy fair that mac users have no probs with the app, but kinda is
because that's what the app was originally built for. Guess I'll have to do
the switching back to the last version before this because it was
accessible.
The only thing that seems inaccessable to me, is the preview songs in the
store because the jaws mouseover commands won't work and that's how you
preview a song. Everything else seems to work. I can find and buy a song
without listening to it, and I can play my music although it takes a little
getting used to.
I guess I could jus preview a song somewhere else and just make sure I'm
clicking the righ name of the song when I buy.

Then I wouldn't have to switch.

So, if apple is claiming it's accessible then how come the itunes store

Personally, I find no problems with Microsoft Word, as my html editor of
choice.

I have written several websites using it, and it is easy to use with Jaws.
I like to keep things simple, and have other things I'd rather do than hand
code my website,

http://www.blind-computing.com
I can't see the website, and it is not written for the sighted world,
so you won't find the elements such as graphics, combo boxes etc.
The entire site is text, and hyper-links, and is by it's simple nature,
accessible with any screen-reader, without having to

be concerned adding additional accessibility.
I really don't care much for the internet, in hat it tires me to go to
websites that insist on having the same

text and links repeated on every page.
Yes, Word does introduce additional code into the raw html document, but it
doesn't seem to have any adverse affect on the functionality of the site.
I would just say, in the end, it a matter of personal preference and how you
want the site to be.
