As even with scripts it didn't work right in version 4 and also

Thanks and regards,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Installing MSE

2009-11-17 Thread Gerald Levy

Don't worry. MSE will alert you when it detects a malicious threat. This
happened to me last week. I tried to link to a web page from the Google
search results page, and MSE instead prompted me with a warning that a
trojan called Cyber Security was attempting to install itself on my PC. I
was presented with a dialog with an option to learn more details about this
threat and and a Clean Computer button to remove it immediately. Of course,
I hit the Clean Computer button, and the trojan was banished from my PC. So
whenever MSE detects a threat, you will certainly know about it, even though
there is no warning sound like in other anti-virus programs.

Yes, you first need to uninstall AVG Free Edition before installing
AVGInternet Security. And you also need to disable Windows Firewall so
that it does not conflict with the AVG firewall. But you can continue to
use Windows Defender with AVG Internet Security. I recently dumpedAVG
Network Edition (paid version) in favor of Microsoft Security
Essenttials , which is free and outscord AVG at virus detection in a
recent comparison test of leading anti-virus programs.

Hi everyone,

I have heard much discussion about antivirus programs on this list, so
I figured someone could give me a good answer.
I am currently using AVG Free 8.5 and Windows Defender. I have been

I am thinking of upgrading to AVG Internet Security, which I understand

Does anyone have any good advice?
Secondly, if I already have the AVG free edition in my laptop, do I
need to uninstall this before installing the AVG Internet Security?

Thanks much,

[JAWS-Users] where do we go to check our licensing count

2009-11-17 Thread jason smith
Hi list,
I have been running Jaws 7 on my notebook, as it has windows ME, and that is
the last version of Jaws to support that OS. It has been running fine for
years. However, it has just reverted to running in 40 minute demo mode. I got
an error message something to do with authorization. I don't know why this has
suddenly started happening. I am wondering if I am going to have to reregister
that version of Jaws? I have just installed Jaws 11. And I have a feeling, that
my Jaws licensing count(or whatever it is called) may be low, or even down to
zero. My question is, where do we go to have our reactivation count restored?
And does anyone remember, if it is the authorization disk from Jaws 6 that we
use to register Jaws 7? I don't think ILM registration was in use then was it?

If anyone has any idea why my version of Jaws 7 reverted to demo mode, I would
look forward to knowing it?

Thanks Jason

It would be good to know if the built-in version has password capability for

[JAWS-Users] Top 5 JAWS Accessible Anti-Virus Programs

2009-11-17 Thread Gerald Levy

Hi listers. What are the top 5 anti-virus programs, which, coincidentally,
also happen to be JAWS accessible? Read the following short article, which
appears in today's West Palm Beach News, to find out:

WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- Want the best antivirus protection for your computer?

What could be better than a recommendation from some of the world's best
computer geeks, who have tested the programs themselves.

Our friends at Lifehacker.com recently asked geeks all over the world to vote
for their best antivirus programs, and here's what they came up with.

At the top of the list, with 23% of the votes, is AVG, which offers a free
edition.

Close behind at number two, with 22% of the votes, is Microsoft Security
Essentials, which is free for all Windows users.

Third is ESET NOD32, followed by antivirus programs by Avast! and Avira.

Our friends at Lifehacker.com recently asked geeks all over the world to
vote for their best antivirus programs, and here's what they came up with.

At the top of the list, with 23% of the votes, is AVG, which offers a free
edition.

Close behind at number two, with 22% of the votes, is Microsoft Security
Essentials, which is free for all Windows users.

Third is ESET NOD32, followed by antivirus programs by Avast! and Avira.

I've had similar problems with Norton and MacAfee. I think they all have
their faults and it's personal preference. Of course, Norton's has never
been interested in making their product work with screen readers.

How are you able to run both AVG and MSE simultaneously on your PC? Since
they both provide real-time protection, they could potentially interfere
with each other. MS explicitly recommends uninstalling any other real-time
anti-virus program before installing MSE.

Hi Erin,

Perhaps it's due to a change in the windows security updates, as I have
the same experience, also with jaws 10 after the last security updates a
few days ago.

Hey, all-
I am using Jaws 9, recently updated. During a sessions on the computer,
jaws will suddenly stop reading autofill and highlighted words when it
was doing so just fine moments earlier and I have made no adjustments to
jaws verbosity. When typing this email, for example, it will not read
autofill for the address, nor will it read to, cc, or subject and
it won't read the misspelled word during spell check here in Outlook
Express. When I reboot, it goes back to working correctly about 50
percent of the time. Any ideas why it's doing that or how I can make it
start reading these things again?

Thanks, Erin

You could get Office 2007 Home and Student which offers a
license to use on
three computers.

I know their is a learning curve with MS Office 2007 JAWS
but also realize eventually we are all going to need to go
there (at least those of us that use MS products) My
understanding is Office 2000 will not work with Window's 7,
and I don't believe it worked with Vista. I'm still using XP
Pro but would like to learn Office 2007 prior to Window's 7
so as to lessen so much to learn @ once. The prices I've
been seeing for Office 2007 are exorbitant especially
considering my wife I have 3 networked computers in the
home plus my wife has a laptop. I was going to do some
research to see if there were some company's or possibly
even Microsoft that offered substantial discounts to
individuals with disabilities. Has anyone checked on this?
If not I will and report back unless that would be
considered off topic for this group. My daughter who teaches
@ our local Community College had a heck of a deal. As a
teacher she had the opportunity to pick up a copy of Office
2007 Professional for $25. Unfortunately, she could only get
one program @ that price.

I am running windows 7 and jaws 11, latest update.
In windows live mail, if I have a link that I want to go to, which is in
an email, when I try to down arrow down to the link, jaws says nothing.
I have to use the tab key. Is there a way to get the up and down arrows
to work in an email when there is a link to go too? Jim

Obviously you haven't priced outlook recently as it is over $100 at least
the last time I looked.

Ah yes, didn't know you require that program. You could buy it separately I
guess.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 11 Question

2009-11-17 Thread Donnie Parrett
When I open an email message in Outlook 2000,JAWS always reads who it is from
and says the subject.
How can I set it so that when I open a message JAWS will automatically start
reading the message?

Thanks,
Donnie

[JAWS-Users] Detecting Word Highlights- Word or Outlook 2007

2009-11-17 Thread Bill Tipton
Hello all,

I get html Outlook 2007 messages in which others highlight words they have
changed so we can all edit.

Can I have JAWS 9 tell me when I come across a Word that is highlighted in a
different color and tell me the color? If so how?

If I cannot do this in Outlook 2007, how can I do this in Word 2007? I can copy
the text from the Outlook message into a Word
document to read what has been highlighted if necessary.

Thank you,
Bill

[JAWS-Users] window 7 and vista

2009-11-17 Thread Kimsan
So with vista out and window seven out. I just want to get some opinions
concerning the two.
I hear that window seven is just an extention of vista, what did this person
say? Window seven is the sister program of vista. I'm thinking about purchasing
a new laptop but if W seven is not much of a difference from vista then I will
just stick w/what I have.Don't go around saying the world owes you a living.
The world owes you nothing. It was here first. - Mark Twain
