Re: [JAWS-Users] keyboard manager question
Hello Doug, If your punctuation level in verbosity is set to "most" then the level for announcing the period should be set to "most", "some" or "none" in the "customize punctuation" dialog box. 1.Press JAWS key with V to bring up the verbosity dialog box. 2.Press the letter "p" until you find the punctuation choice. 3.It is likely set to the most choice and if so just escape out-of-the dialog box. 4.Use JAWS key with F2 to bring up the list of JAWS managers. 5.Press the letter "C" until you find the choice for the configuration manager and press enter key. 6.Press CTRL+shift+D to load the default configuration manager. 7.Use Alt+S to go into the settings menu. 8.Use down arrow key until you find the choice for customizing punctuation and press enter key. 9.Press a period key to move focus to that punctuation mark. If it is set to the "all" choice then you won't hear it announced when punctuation in verbosity is set to the "most" choice. Press spacebar until something other than the "all" level is chosen. The level for the punctuation in the custom punctuation settings should be the same or lower than what is chosen in the verbosity. If it is set to "all" and the verbosity level for punctuation is "most" then you won't hear it spoken. 10. Use tab key to the OK button and press enter key or spacebar. 11. Use CTRL+S to save changes and Alt+f4 to close the configuration manager. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] keyboard manager question
Hello Vicky, If you set your punctuation verbosity to "most" and change a specific punctuation level to "all" in the customize punctuation dialog box in the configuration manager, the specific punctuation should not be announced any more. 1. Use JAWS key with V to bring up the verbosity dialog box and press the letter "p" until the punctuation choice is in focus. 2. If the punctuation is set to "most" then just escape out-of-the box. If it is set to "all" then use spacebar to change the level. 3. Use insert+f2 to bring up a list of JAWS managers, press C until the configuration manager is chosen and press enter key. 4. Use CTRL+shift+D to bring up the default configuration manager. 5. Use Alt+S to go into the settings menu, use down arrow key to the "customize punctuation" choice and press enter key. 6. A list of punctuation marks will come into view. Press a period (key by the comma) to move to the period choice and use spacebar to change the level to "all" if it is not at that setting already. 7. Use the end key to move to the ellipsis choice and press spacebar to set it to the "all" choice. 8. Use tab key to the OK button and use spacebar. 9. Use CTRL+S to save changes and close the configuration manager using Alt+f4. Microsoft Word actually changes the three periods in a row to the ellipsis symbol. Editors sometimes require three dots with spaces between them or if an entire sentence is left out they want four dots separated with spaces after the first one. This can cause a problem if the dots are at the end of a line as the Word ellipsis won't break over lines. This problem is usually resolved by changing the auto correct function for the ellipsis, by creating auto text or by using a macro assigned to a hotkey. It usually also involves the use of non breaking spaces between the dots. If the ellipses that you are hearing have not been changed into the ellipsis symbol by the book authors or editors then you might need to change the level of announcement of the period as well as the level for the ellipsis. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] copying OE address book
Hi Leonard; Below are 2 different ways to accomplish what you are wanting. #1. 1. Open My Computer/Local disk C/Documents & Settings/my name, Mike folder/application data/microsoft/adddress book. 2. There will be 2 items in here. You want to copy the top one or 1 of 2. The 2nd one has a tilda sign at the end of it meaning that it is a copy of the first one in the list. You can only read the tilda sign reading character by character. #2. Your Outlook Express address book is stored in a file called the wab file. To find your address book, go to find on your start menu and type in *.wab. This will locate your wab file which is your address book. To save the address book, copy your wab file. You can also save your address book in the following manner. Bring up your address book with control shift B. Do an alt f for the file menu. Arrow down and hit enter on export. Then hit enter on address book. A standard save as dialog will begin. It will want a file name, you should give it an extension of wab. For example. copyabook.wab. You can shift tab back to the save in combo box and pick a folder where you want to save the file just like usual. Then tab to the save button and hit enter. When you want to import it to your other computer, follow the same steps, except choose import instead of export from the file menu. Hope this helps. Take care. Mike, It's tax time! Re: [JAWS-Users] A Windows Live Mail thing I have notice with Jaws.
hi there, lots of things even I didn't say about jaws with windows live mail. I have not used any other email clients as I started learning email quite late. Well I knew how to do it at school but at that time I didn't have internet at home. lol But alittle tip for those who have the issue about jaws not entering into a message. When that does happen what you can do is hold your jaws key down and press the letter Z that's Z for zebra! Jaws will say "use vertural pc curser off" note I have not tryed this with out being in the body of the message so I don't know if it works when say tabing from the subject line to the message. But as I was saying do that command if you can't type in the body of that message and you should be able to type with out any problem! Note very important! when you have sent your message remember to turn the virtual curser back on! Because if you go to a message to read it and hit enter on that message and say you want to arrow around well you will get no feedback until you have turned it back on. I'll admit when I 1st started using windows live mail and incounted this issue I was really stuck and had to do alot of shift tabing and tabing to finally get into the message to type away. And it could be a long process or a short one. and just by chance I pulled this keystroke from memory and it hasn't let me down yet! The reason I am writing about this is because it might happen to someone else and if they was like me and completly stump and didn't have a clue what to do well I hope this keystroke will come in handy for all you people! I know it did for me! If any one has got any more tips for windows live mail then I would love to hear them! I mean that's what part of life is isn't it? For people to help each other! Many Thanks. Too if you want Stickykeys to never come up again you have to go into control panel, accessibility options when it comes up it will be on the keyboard tab, just tab down once and it will tell you if Stickykeys is checked or unchecked, if you want it unchecked just hit space then tab down to apply then shift-tab twice to ok and it won't bother you again. Sorry, at the moment, I can't find how to turn it off in the Jaws help. May be someone else will be able to answer that part. When I go to type if I hit certain keys it acts as if I have hit a combination of keys. Some of the problems I am experiencing are as follows it opens up a new document, erases some of if not all the paper I am working on I then have to go and hit control and the letter z for undo until I get my paper back starting all over with the line or sentences i have already typed by the time I notice it. I also have noticed when I hit the letter F by itself a lot of times it will go to the find page when I do the JAWS key and the letter F on the highlited items it may even say that I am in hanging indent when i have never put this paper in hanging indent. I also noticed that it often times feels that certain things should be italicised or bolded and underlined for that matter. When these problems have occurred the fixes I have tried that sometimes works is hitting JAWS key plus the space bar to turn on home row then hitting it again to turn off home row. I am wanting to know is there a permanent fix for these problems if so any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance. I apologize for such a long message. [JAWS-Users] A Windows Live Mail thing I have notice with Jaws.
Hi everyone, I subject line says it all. Let me explain. I was just wondering has anyone notice this? I don't know if its a Jaws issue or a wlm issue but hear it goes. Basicly when I am looking at a message say for example in this mailing list, and I want to go onto the next one. I would hit alt then left arrow to move to the next unread message and jaws moves to it. But hear is the slight problem sometimes or quite a lot I can't define how offten it happens because its very ramdom but jaws will focus on the contact button so then I have to shift tab to hear the message. I don't know if its a problem for some people but sometimes I find it a little fustrating. Just cureious if anyone has notice this as well.
