Re: [JAWS-Users] HJ pad addition to last post

2010-05-08 Thread Brian Lee
Hello rich,

I don't have Windows XP Home, but as far as I can tell HJ Pad doesn't have
its own options for sorting. Check in the control panel to see if the
different applets are sorted in a descending order. When you open the
control panel go into the view menu and use down arrow key and make sure
either "list" or "details" is checked. In the view menu use down arrow to
the "arrange by" menu, use right arrow key to move into the submenu and then
find the "name" choice by using up or down arrow key. Press enter on the
"name" choice. Of course, only do so if files are not in the sort order you
want. This action should reverse the sort order for the control panel.
Open HJ Pad and see if the files in the open dialog box are now sorted
correctly. If not then go back into the control panel and when the icons
are sorted by name in ascending order then go under the tools menu and open
options. Use CTRL+tab to move to the view page. Use tab key to move to the
button that lets you apply current view to all folders and use that button.
Close out of the box and check HJ Pad again to find out if files are
correctly sorted.

I hope you get it working.

Take care.

I don't know if this is happening.
For years, I've been adding to files and this problem has never happened.

I started using HJ Pad when I was introduced and training with JAWS and kept

certain files there.
I also have a bunch of files in "microsoft word".
It befuddles me on why this occurred in the first place.
In my weird organization of thoughts, I keep a HJ pad section for certain
things that access by a short cut key and a "word" section for other files.

Another queer problem is, why is it when I "fix" the problem by entering on
"name" in applications, does it not save to the next time I use this folder.

Hi Rich;

I think I have figured out what is going on. When you open HJ Pad are you
opening the file menu, then going to recent files, and seeing a list of
files? If so, these files can't be put in alphabetical order because
these

are put in the order that they are created, with the most recent created
file in the number 1 position and the oldest created document/file in the
higher numbered/lower in the list position. In turn, all of your files
are

saved in alphabetical order in My Documents but, not in the recent files
list. Is this what is happening? Take care.

 HI Rich;

I guess it doesn't matter in what format you save files in because, as
far

as I know they are saved in My Documents. Are you saying that when you
open
HJ Pad there are files/folders sitting right there in HJ Pad? If you

Do you mean avast 5.0.507? If so, that's been out for nearly a month, it
was released on the 16th of last month. and its because of that version
that i wrote to them again. They said they were testing with jaws,
window eyes and NVDA before the next release, so in answer to your
question no they haven't done what they said to that release, because i
wrote to them after that version came out.

I'd like to thank you, Donald, for your detailed post. I am grateful for
your explannations of these technical topics, I think when we can gain an
understanding of the how's and why's that relate to the creation and use of
websites and their content, it helps people understand that not everything
is done as a conspiracy against accessibility, so to speak.
You also did an excellent job providing a tool for action, explaining how
one can have an influence on accessibility integration. Again, thank you

Currently, most buttons within a Flash Player can only be labeled by the
Developer! YouTube, just after the announcement of Adobe's CS4 last year,
which included more accessibility features in Flash Professional, added
labels for standard buttons like play, pause and full screen. Sometime over

the last year this seemed to go away. Probably a developer's oversight.
JAWS can not label anything within the Flash movie object. As far as I have

been able to determine, JAWS Scripts can not help label these buttons
either.

Adobe has just released, or about to release CS5, which now enhances the
accessibility features and more importantly, make accessibility the default!

This means that any developer creating a Flash Player object with the Adobe
Flash Professional in Creative Suite 5 (CS5), will automatically have the
standard 'widgets', recognized as buttons by JAWS will be labeled.
Additional developer customized 'widgets' must have additional accessibility

info filled out in the "accessibility" panel. Hopefully, this evolutionary
enhancements will get implemented by web developers. The website developers

must add this information or at least upgrade to the latest tools to improve

the accessibility of their site. Send emails to the webmaster / developer
of these sites to encourage them to update to the latest tools and to use
the accessibility features of these tools to improve their site.

HTML does show promise since it has accessibility designed into the
standard. There are still many details up in the air, such as which video
codec to implement. These issues are around copyright and patents. The
favorite is H264, which works great and implemented many places like
YouTube, is currently only free for non commercial use and this free trial
will end around 2014. Some organizations, like Mozilla will not implement
H264 for this reason in Firefox. They are pushing an little known open
source video codec. Microsoft supports HTML5 using H264. They are
implementing these standards into Internet Explorer 9. There are some very
early betas of IE9 available, but I doubt they would work well with any
screen readers. Apple, of course, has started a war with Adobe over Flash.
Steve has personally bashed Flash and swears never to allow it on iPhones,
iPods or iPads! He is pushing HTML5, even though it is not ready yet. That

will certainly speed up implementation.

OK. I checked and tab browsing, quick tabs, and tab groups were all
enabled. Should they be?

Check and see if you have tab browsing on and how it handles pages.
You may have more pages open then you think sometimes.

I suppose not! My sighted colleague tells me that the buttons change
depending on the type of programme i.e. HD etc. so, I think we really need
some scripts.

Do you start over when you are there? Do you need to type in your
current home page and than press enter and type in the second
address and tab to apply then press enter key?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks ahead of time.

It all depends on which website you're using really. For example, if you use
the BBC IPlayer, there's a button called timeline. when you press space on
that, you have an option to skip to different sections of the video, so 1
button will be 10%, the other will be 20%, etc etc. same with volume

Hope this helps,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Turning off mouse touchpad on laptop.

2010-05-08 Thread Mobeen Iqbal
Hi. if the synaptechs option isn't in your system tray, just hit alt
enter on your start button, press shift tab until you get to the hide
inactive icons checkbox and if its checked, uncheck it and click ok.
Most laptops have this manager installed regardless of what make they
are for controling mouse features. If not, have someone sited check your
keys. normally, the keys on the top of the keyboard are the ones you'll
need to look at. FN plus one of those should turn your mouse off.

Re: [JAWS-Users] facebook mobile?

2010-05-08 Thread Mobeen Iqbal
Hi dave, what web browser are you using? this issue sometimes happens
in internet explorer version 8. if it does, go to tools and
compatibility view settings, then add the m.facebook.com site to the
compatibility websites list. this should, in theory, fix your issue.
if it doesn't, switch to firefox. its alot better, and the
m.facebook.com site definitely works in that.

annoying changes, posts from 2009 are not really
