Hi Debbie.

You can either use alt f10, or as far as i can remember, if you go from
the top right hand corner, the applications key is the last one to the
left, on that very top row. does that make sense?

I hope that helps,

Mo.

[JAWS-Users] Internet Explorer keeps failing and shutting down, any ideas to help?

2010-05-17 Thread Dale Leavens
Page after page Internet Explorer fails. Often it is the error on Web page,
sometimes it seems to be nothing, sometimes it happens with a redirect to the
pay for pages of a shopping site.It is often difficult to know what is wrong
because jaws locks up. If left long enough Jaws may come back, I have though
left it over night and had to power down and restart to get it back, I don't
know what happens there. If I am really patient when Jaws goes quiet and
remember not to touch a navigation key it is more likely to come back and tell
me that things went south due to an error on the page.

I haven't updated from Jaws 9 on this machine running vista and IE 8. a bunch.
Jaws 7 on my wife's XP Home machine and IE 7 seems to handle the same pages
well.

I notice a load of private browsing and other "features" in this new Internet
Explorer I wonder if that is the issue. I went to the control panel to see if I
could uninstall IE 8, a method which used to return to an earlier version of IE
but that doesn't seem to be there under Vista.

Does anyone know if this is an Internet Explorer new feature, some odd
combination with Jaws, both, neither, some setting I haven't stumbled on or any
other idea how to improve this behaviour?

This just is not useful. One way or another I have purchased at least 5 full
Jaws packages over the past decade along with several SMAs, it is frustrating
not to have a seamless browsing experience.

Any information, advice or solution will be most appreciated.

[JAWS-Users] Layout info pronunciation

Dear List,

In MS Word 2007, things like inches and line position are suddenly
spoken in a word document, on a work pc for the past few days.

The jaws verbosity option about indentation is unchecked.

Where else can one disable this verbalisation pronunciation?

Thanks and regards,

Hi Debbie.
You can either use alt f10, or as far as i can remember, if you go from
the top right hand corner, the applications key is the last one to the
left, on that very top row. does that make sense?

I hope that helps,

If you press the function key with the f-keys on the top row of the
computer, things will happen. Function key with f8, for example,
puts a Dell laptop into projection mode for use with a screen for
presentations. The other keys work with the function key too, but I
don't remember what they do. If you have your Dell lap top manual,
you can probably find the information there.

A good tool to use in this sitituation is the JAWS key help mode. Press
CapsLock + 1 in the numbers row to turn on thhis help mode. Then you can
explore all of your keys to discover what they do. Some modifier keys will
announce nothing unless you press a key combination. If you have an
applications key it will announce it as such just by pressing that key.
When done discoveringnew keys, press CapsLock + 1 again to turn key help
off.

It's amazing the differences that exist on this subject among computers,

I have a Dell laptop, but haven't used it in a while. But if I remember
correctly, it does not have a context menu key, and you must either use
SHIFT-F10 or if you use an external numpad, you can use the numpad star
key, which is two to the right of the numlock.

[JAWS-Users] My Project

2010-05-17 Thread chris hallsworth

Hello all,
I'm a university student, and I have finished all my coursework for my
computing course. I am therefore writing to offer you a copy of my
project report. As you will see the project is based on a technical
support system I plan to set up in the future, using JAWS Tandem to
remotely assist somebody in using a computer.
If any of you would like a copy, please let me know off list, so I can
possibly attach it or upload it somewhere. Note it's 23 pages in length,
and it's in Microsoft Word 2007 format. I can, however, convert it if
required.

Thanks, and I look forward to any offers.

Guys,

I don't think it will help unless somebody has the same model. Dell laptops
vary in their keyboard layout depending on the model.

I disabled all add-ons except for the Adobe Reader Helper which might be
needed but still getting the errors which Internet explorer tries to recover
three times before shutting down. There is no indication what the errors or
problems might be with the pages that fail.

Try running IE with no add ons and see if the errors still occur.

Page after page Internet Explorer fails. Often it is the error on Web
page, sometimes it seems to be nothing, sometimes it happens with a
redirect to the pay for pages of a shopping site.It is often difficult to
know what is wrong because jaws locks up. If left long enough Jaws may
come back, I have though left it over night and had to power down and
restart to get it back, I don't know what happens there. If I am really
patient when Jaws goes quiet and remember not to touch a navigation key
it is more likely to come back and tell me that things went south due to
an error on the page.

I haven't updated from Jaws 9 on this machine running vista and IE 8. a
bunch. Jaws 7 on my wife's XP Home machine and IE 7 seems to handle the
same pages well.

I notice a load of private browsing and other "features" in this new
Internet Explorer I wonder if that is the issue. I went to the control
panel to see if I could uninstall IE 8, a method which used to return to
an earlier version of IE but that doesn't seem to be there under Vista.

Does anyone know if this is an Internet Explorer new feature, some odd
combination with Jaws, both, neither, some setting I haven't stumbled on
or any other idea how to improve this behaviour?

This just is not useful. One way or another I have purchased at least 5
full Jaws packages over the past decade along with several SMAs, it is
frustrating not to have a seamless browsing experience.

Any information, advice or solution will be most appreciated.

I wonder if it might be high jacked.
have you tried a IE repair, think it is in programs and features under

[JAWS-Users] Braille Books for Learning Foreign Languages

2010-05-17 Thread Annie Hesse
Hello Everyone,

Does anyone know where I can get or have access to books in Braille for
someone wanting to learn a foreign language? I'm located in Paris and my
student would like to have a book to accompany the oral portion of her
English language training. I have tried the major bookstores and libraries
and even contacted publishers directly, all to no avail. I have a couple of
other leads to follow up on. In the meantime, I was wondering if any of you
might have any insight to offer, as it seems to me, most of you are located
Stateside where there is a lot more awareness of accessibility. Whatever
info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Annie

[JAWS-Users] Tracket and jaws?

2010-05-17 Thread Dyer mattheqw

Hi all,

I have been trying to work with a i.t help desk in a hospital through
project search. How ever, there is a big problem with this. After
doing some testing and research, The software they use is not
accessible whats so ever. It is called traciket. It is a detabace
program. They are going to be switching to microsoft sql service, but
there is no time frame set for this. Has anyone used tracket with jawws
and what were your expierences? What did you do to get it to work
rite? I do understan that this is a jova based app. They did have
access bridge installed. There seems to be no keyboard navaagation at
all. Using the jaws cursor, the only way they could get it to click is
wth the phisical mouse.

Would there be any work arounds for this?

Or is this just one of thees programs that you can just say forget it?
I am unable to tajke the job as of rite now because of this until they
begin the migration to microsoft sql server.
Thanks for everyones help in advance gies. Perhaps if anyone from fs is
on the list and could comet on this.

[JAWS-Users] My first recording

2010-05-17 Thread chris hallsworth

Hello all,
I have done my first professional recording of a JAWS Tandem session, as
part of my project. If anyone wants a copy, which is in MP3 format,
please let me know. I plan to upload it to Dropbox so that I can give
you the link via the groups, rather than attaching it on or off the
groups, as the MP3 is quite large (over 16MB in size). The recording was
done using GoldWave 5.56, and so was the editing, for example removing
silence or unwanted audio.

Many thanks in advance for any offers.
