Just to let all know do not get new version of skipe. Does not work wells with
jaws 11 or with the scripts for jaws. JAWS does not read your list if you use
up or down arrow. When you tab you do not hear anything. Stay with skipe 4.1

Hi Susie.

You can personally create your own shortcut to the file: C:\Program
Files\Freedom Scientific\Runtime Jaws\versionnumber\JFWKill.exe

If you place this shortcut e.g. on your Desktop, you will be able to
access

this from there, when the shortcutkey is so difficult for you to act.

Good luck.

I am running Windows XP Pro and Office 2007. I have an issue with
outlook, in that it crashes periodically, and when it does, it takes
speech with it. This behavior is screen reader independent. The
computer itself has not crashed, just Outlook and speech. Now, if you
can get speech back, you can interact with the Outlook error reporting
dialogue, and close and restart Outlook. The normal command, i. e.
INSERT-F4 does not work in this situation. Now, Window Eyes has a Kill
script that allows you to use a hotkey that will unload Window Eyes from
memory, and then you can use your normal hotkey, usually CONTROL-ALT-W,
to start WE again. Does JAWS have a similar key sequence that will
unload it from memory when INSERT-F4 does not work?

[JAWS-Users] Hyperlinks in outlook

2010-05-20 Thread Michael Collett
I am trying to support my colleague using Jaws 11, Outlook 2007 on a
computer running XP Pro. Very regularly when trying to open an email
with a web link or email address in the body of the email Outlook
crashes and the system wants to report the error to Microsoft, Jaws
cannot read this window, and it is impossible to tab to it to close the
Window. As soon as the error occurs Jaws stops speaking and the Braille
display stops working to.

We did report the error to Sight and Sound and followed their advice to
uninstall Jaws and reload it from a fresh download of the product. The
error persists!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Kill JAWS

2010-05-20 Thread Paul Magill
Hi all,

- there may be a misunderstanding in this thread...

The JawsKey+F4, and WindowsKey+JawsKey+F4, are not 2 different ways of doing
the same thing.

The JawsKey+F4 is used in normal situations when you want a normal shut down
of Jaws for any reason. - it provides a confirmation prompt, allows you
to continue the shut down or not.

The WindowsKey+JawsKey+F4 method is for when Jaws is experiencing a problem,
can not be shut down sufficiently by the above method, in order to be able
to reload jaws carry on working.
In some situations, when Jaws has crashed, or another process has crashed
Jaws, you can use WindowsKey+JawsKey+F4 to shut down Jaws and all its
associated processes, thus allowing it to be restarted in the usual way
without rebooting.

Note, it does not always work, but saves a lot of time when it does. This
method also causes an error reporting file to be created, and if asked by FS
support, can be emailed to them to assist in analysing the initial problem.

Regards,
Paul from Aust

Re: [JAWS-Users] Using Cool Edit Pro with Jaws?

2010-05-20 Thread Paul
Cool Edit has a number of user-assignable keyboard shortcuts, but in my
experience is not very accessible out of the box.

I think it depends upon what you want to do. Most basic sound processing
chores one can perform with Cool Edit can be done with more accessible
software, such as GoldWave.

Sonic Foundry/Sound Forge is a better option than Cool Edit at that level of
software functionality, but that's not to say Sound Forge is wildly more
accessible. It's just a bit better than Cool Edit, IMHO.

For total project functionality at a professional studio level, from
recording to mastering, Sonar plus Dancing Dots' JAWS scripts and tutorials
will be a far better choice.

All this is my opinion, based upon experience with all four software
products I've mentioned. Your mileage may, and probably will vary.

2010-05-20 Thread Brent Harding
I was thinking about maybe getting one of these some day to add more storage
to my system. The problem with USB is that the drive powers down too fast,
it's in WD's firmware because I have all power management turned off here,
and it shuts down short enough that if you're doing a show online you get
the second of dead air at the crossfade point between two songs while the
drive powers up. I've gotten it sometimes, and sometimes things just lock up
if the file's not accessed in time. It's a given we'd need the remote access
license added to Jaws, but can this be installed to the server without
sighted help? They say it's like having a small 2003 server, which could be
useful to learn about anyways.

Re: [JAWS-Users] help with Eudora

2010-05-20 Thread Betsy Whitney, Dolphin Press

Graham,
Many of us have been using this product successfully for many years.
My friends who use outlook of any kind have gotten many viruses that
my security software have blocked. I'm not sure why someone who
dislikes Eudora so much is even on this list, since it is a list for
people who like and wish to use Eudora.
It's always up to the individual, but I am not convinced by the
statements offered.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Kill JAWS

Andy

Eudora might have taken so long to be updated, but it is still a maintained
product. It only went open source, but I think it is still a cool product.
Anyway, I think we have to respect each other's preferences as long as the
products are accessible by their screen reader, Jaws in this case.
