No, the 32-bit version of JAWS won't run on Win64. Just download the 64-bit version from Freedom Scientific's web site and install it on your new 64-bit machine. Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem with JAWS 12 public release
You can try to update the JAWS authorization on your machine. Select Update authorization from the JAWS help menu. When you purchase a new SMA, the authorization on your machine(s) does not get updated automatically. You can check the highest version of JAWS for which you are authorized by running the ILM authorization viewer from the JAWS Tools menu. Look at the line Last rel allowed. Hello all. For those who like this extra protection in Windows Vista and 7, there is good news. JAWS 12 for me is reading all User Account Control prompts with little to no delay, from the time I hear the chime to the time JAWS loads to read the prompt. I know JAWS has always read these prompts, but until now there has always been a delay of up to 30 seconds (sometimes JAWS did not even load at all) from the time the chime sounds to the time JAWS reads the prompt, if it could be bothered to . Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws sluggishness and upgrading your pc
Troy, Processor speed will make a big difference with Jaws performance. You can determine the processor you have by going into the Control Panel and then open the System applet. On the main page, you can use the Jaws cursor to review the information on the screen. One of the items listed will be the processor make, model and speed. If the processor speed is less than 1.0Ghz, then versions of Jaws after version 5.1 will not perform well. Also, the number of programs running in the background will also impact Jaws performance as well as your computers overall performance. Review all of the programs running in the system tray using Jaws key plus F11. Close any programs that you know you never use. Also, some anti-virus programs consume significant processor resources. The most processor intensive are Symantec, McAfee and AVG. If you are running any of these, you may want to consider switching to Microsoft Security Essentials, which is very light on processor utilization. And make sure that you are not running more than one anti-virus program. And even though adding the additional memory did not fix the Jaws problem, it will positively improve your overall computer performance. You should also make sure that you have the latest driver software for the sound device on your computer. There are many reasons for sluggish Jaws speech and hopefully one of the items I listed above will help with your particular situation. Today I read a message on the list about upgrading the memmory on your pc. I did have the ram upgraded to 2 gb and having the same issue, now how do I know what else to upgrade on this pc so that I don't spend money on something that's not really needed. This is a dell pc, win xp home. Not sure what type of processor I have or anything like that.
