it's USD - D for Dollar - that may work for you. This has absolutely
nothing to do with USB.

Hi all, I am using jaws 12 and am trying to use the currency
converter. I am trying to convert 30 US dollars to
Australian dollars. I type 30 USD followed by a space then
AUD
and each time I don't get a result. I have tried with a few
other currencies such as british pounds to australian
dollars and still nothing. does capitalisation of the
currency symbols matter?

[JAWS-Users] question regarding the following programs and their compatibility with windows 7 or Vista

2010-11-16 Thread David Ferrin
The following is a short list of programs that I consider quite important.

file note
copy path
power menu
web drive
Karen's replicator

I know of course just as soon as this message leaves my out box I'll think of
five more programs, but this is a good start. These are programs that go in to
each and every basic image I create.

It occurs to me that I might need to put 7 on one of these systems here since I
am running in to more support calls. I did duck Vista pretty well but 7 is far
more popular, and from what I can see more useful than Vista at least to my
minimal experience.

If I come up with a further list of programs I'll ask to their compatibility as
well.

[JAWS-Users] Problem with JAWS and Windows Mail

2010-11-16 Thread Greg
Hello all,
I am running JAWS 12 on a Vista Laptop. For some reason JAWS has stopped
reading whether my messages are unread or whether they are collapsed. I am
wondering what I can do to fix this. Should I uninstall windows mail? If so,
how do I do this? I looked in programs and features but did not see windows
mail listed.

Compatible but very sluggish on my machines at least. So choose not to
use it and instead use the traditional copy and paste method or, for
system images Backup and Restore Centre.

[JAWS-Users] Getting to contacts in wlm 2011

2010-11-16 Thread David Bailes
In a previous post I said that there weren't any single keystrokes to get to
contacts etc in windows live mail 2011, and described a method using f6 and
arrow keys. I've just found out that that in fact there are single keystrokes
available: ctrl+1 for mail, ctrl+2 for calender, ctrl+3 for contacts, ctrl+4
for feeds, and ctrl+5 for newsgroups.
I found this out when having a look at outlook 2010, which has a roughly
similar
layout to wlm 2011. Unlike wlm, there is help available for outlook which
includes all the available shortcuts. It uses ctrl+1 etc, and I guessed that
these might also work in wlm 2011.

David.

hello if you want to add contact, windows live 2011,

ctrl+shift+c
will get you their.

by the way,

the f6-key, will cycle you into the inbox list view,
another press you should hear,
folder view,
another press, you should hear,
mail then arrow to contacts and press enter,
also, a press of f6, will take you to search edit.

another interesting thing is,

ctrl+ 1 2 3 4 5
mail calendar, contacts, etc,

friendly to the sighted either. After about her playing for about 30
minutes, I remembered the tip to use f6 and get to mail. From there it was
easy.So if I can remember to use the application key and f6 it may make
life a little easier.
Is there anyway to have jaws notify me if the email has an attachment or

Re: [JAWS-Users] question regarding the following programs and their compatibility with windows 7 or Vista

2010-11-16 Thread Don Marang
Karen's Replicator runs great on my Windows 7 Home Premium system. I use it
to backup large amounts of data. It does it very efficiently. I have had
no problems with performance.

You may find some utilities unnecessary in Windows 7, because there are ways
to do it natively. For instance, in Windows Explorer, if you press Shift +
Applications, a "right click" context menu appears with a few extra options,
like Copy Path. The path of the folder can also be copied by pressing F4 to
display and highlight the address field.

There is just so much stuff in the world that, to me, is devoid of any real
substance, value, and content that I just try to make sure that I am working

It occurs to me that I might need to put 7 on one of these systems here

Re: [JAWS-Users] Extracting an imbedded sound

2010-11-16 Thread Mike & Barbara In Arcadia
Hi Trish & Mr. Lynch;

Thank you both for your help. You got me shoved in the right direction and
that wasn't to Doctor Phils couch either! LOL

The secret was to have the box checked for read all messages in plain text
in OE options. Below are the steps on saving an imbedded sound or picture
file.

To extract the sound or picture file;
1. Press control, shift, + O for the options menu, & control + tab to the
read tab.
2. Tab down to the read all messages in plain text option and check this
box.
3. Tab to okay & press enter.
4. Now, open the email, press Insert +A to open the attachment, & the song
will then appear in the Attach field as a
file that can be saved just like any other attachment.

To save the sound or picture file:

  1. Go to the file menu and choose save attachments as & press enter.
  2. Browse to where you want to save the sound or picture
  3. tab down to save, press enter, and you're done.

Sometimes there might be more than 1 file in the attachment so, you will
have to play around a little bit to get the 1 selected that you want to
save.

Thanks again Trish & Mr. Lynch. Hope this helps someone else also. Take
care.
Mike

[JAWS-Users] MSconfig turning of start up programs

2010-11-16 Thread Russ Hubley
Hi everyone,

I understand how to get all the way to unchecking a program in the start up
page in MSconfig.
>From this point, I can tab to two buttons, enable all and disable all.

If I select the disable all, will it just disable the program I have just
unchecked?

Thanks,

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Daisy Files

2010-11-16 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Steve,

There are a couple ways you could use to transfer the DAISY files to your
Victor Stream. The first way would be to use Windows Explorer for copying,
pasting, and creating the destination folder. Another method would be to
use Humanware Companion. Although you can transfer just the MP3 files, if
you transfer all files including the SMIL, HTM, CSS, MP3 and others then you
can have the training information treated as a DAISY talking book and placed
in the talking books library. The first set of steps below are for
transferring using Windows Explorer. The second set of steps is for
transferring using Humanware Companion. You should have the latest firmware
from Humanware installed to the Victor Stream and use the newest release of
Humanware Companion. Both the firmware and Humanware Companion software can
be downloaded from the Humanware web site.

Transferring The Training Information Using Windows Explorer

1. Insert the SD card into the card slot of the computer or connect
the USB cable and have Windows recognize the Victor Stream as a removable
device.

2. If the auto play program comes into focus then choose to open
folder to view files using Windows Explorer. If Windows Explorer does not
appear then use Windows key with E to launch Windows Explorer.

3. Find your device or the SD card in the list of drives and press
enter to open it, or if there is a tree/list view then tab from the card or
device in the tree view into the list view.

4. Use down arrow key until you get to the $VRDTB folder and press
enter key to open it.

5. When you open the $VRDTB folder JAWS should say "not selected." If
by chance the focus moves to a folder and has it selected then use CTRL with
spacebar to deselect the item in the list.

6. Press the application key, press W followed by the enter key. Jaws
will tell you that focus is in an edit box and the folder name is "new
folder."

7. Without using any navigational keystroke, type in the name that you
want for the material being transferred and press enter key. If you use a
navigational key before typing in the folder name then you will need to
select everything in the edit box and type the new name in to replace the
existing text.

8. Use Windows key E to open a second occurrence of Windows Explorer.

9. Open the hard drive and find the program files folder and press
enter to open it. Press F until you get to the Freedom Scientific folder
and open it by pressing enter key. Press T until you hear JAWS announce the
training folder and press enter to open it. Press J until you hear the JAWS
folder announced and press enter key to open it. Press E to select the ENU
folder and open it by pressing enter key. Use down arrow to the name of the
training item that you want to transfer and press enter to open the
appropriate folder.

10. Select all files by using CTRL+A or choosing the "select all" choice
in the edit menu. (Use Alt+E to enter the edit menu if you use that method
for choosing "select all)."

11. Copy all items to the clipboard by using CTRL+C or by using the
application key to get a context menu and using down arrow to the "copy"
choice. Press enter on the copy choice if using the menu.

12. Use Alt+tab key to move back to the $VRDTB folder open in the other
Windows Explorer session.

13. Press the first letter of the new folder you created for these files
and press enter key to open it.

14. Use CTRL+V to paste the files or find paste in the edit menu using
Alt+e, using down arrow in the menu to the paste choice and pressing enter
key. Wait for all the files that you copied to the clipboard to be pasted.

15. Use Alt+f4 to close the Windows Explorer session. Use Alt+tab to move
to the other Windows Explorer session and close it by using Alt+f4.

16. Use the "Safe to Remove Hardware" wizard to remove the SD card or
device from being recognized by Windows. The idea is to make sure all
writing to the SD card or to the Stream using the USB cable has completed
before removing the card or disconnecting the cable.

17. Remove the card or disconnect the cable.

18. Turn the Victor Stream off if you used the SD card, insert the card
into the Victor Stream and turn the unit on again.

19. Browse to the Talking Books bookshelf and find the transferred file.
You should now be able to open it and navigate in it using the Victor Stream
navigating methods.

20. When you open the file, you can use key 9 to switch between the human
voice and the synthesized voice. If you use the synthesized voice, you will
find a search choice in the page menu. Press the page key until you find
the choice. It is not present when the human recorded voice is active.

I don't know what you mean by dagger in the context of JAWS reading Web

The secret was to have the box checked for read all messages in plain text
in OE options. Below are the steps on saving an imbedded sound or picture
file.

To extract the sound or picture file;

Take
care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] MSconfig turning of start up programs

2010-11-16 Thread Flor Lynch

Hi Russ,

In the General Tab of msconfig, after you have unchecked items in your
startup, if you want to prevent items from starting up automatically you
need to choose the Selective Startup radiobutton. When you next restart
your computer, you will get a message (which JAWS will read) asking you
are you sure you want selective startup, and whether you want to be
notified every time that your startup is in selective startup? You would
normally then tab to the "don't show me this message again" checkbox and
check it with spacebar, and OK your choice.

Re: [JAWS-Users] MSconfig turning of start up programs

2010-11-16 Thread Tom Vos
Yes.
Disable all will do what it says. Disable all the programs, even if you
just checked them.
For fastest start up, you will want to uncheck as many programs as possible.
Windows will make sure that a minimum of programs are automatically checked
for it to run.
Then make sure your antivirus is checked.
Uncheck everything else.
Then, if you find something does not work right, you can always go back in
and check that program to start up.
Blessings,
Tom

Re: [JAWS-Users] MSconfig turning of start up programs

2010-11-16 Thread Rick Justice

Hi Russ,
A couple of notes here!
You will not need to choose, selective startup on the general tab,
since this will change automatically when you uncheck something in the
startup tab.
It is best to uncheck one item, and then reboot, if you are not completely
sure about the item you have disabled.
By disabling one item at a time, you have a better chance of determining
what the cause is if you have unexpected results.

HTH,
Rick Justice

Yes.
Disable all will do what it says. Disable all the programs, even if you
just checked them.
For fastest start up, you will want to uncheck as many programs as
possible.
Windows will make sure that a minimum of programs are automatically
checked

for it to run.
Then make sure your antivirus is checked.
Uncheck everything else.
Then, if you find something does not work right, you can always go back in
and check that program to start up.
Blessings,
Tom

   Hi everyone,

I understand how to get all the way to unchecking a program in the start
up

page in MSconfig.

From this point, I can tab to two buttons, enable all and disable all.

If I select the disable all, will it just disable the program I have just
unchecked?

Thanks,
Russ
