Over the years, FS have updated older jaws versions several times,
usually with bug fixes or security updates.

with all that is sometimes said against FS, this is one thing to their credit.

[JAWS-Users] Silencing part of the screen.

2010-12-03 Thread Dan Rossi
This is pretty obscure, so not sure anyone will have a suggestion, but
here goes.

Firstly, this issue is occurring essentially in a terminal window, IE, when
I am running in Cygwin, a linux-like command-line interface on a Windows
box.

On all of my machines, except for my newest 64 bit Windows 7 box, I have

screen of information, when you hit the space bar, it shows the next
screen full of text. The top line of the screen stays mostly the same,
showing the Pine version, message number, and a couple of other things, it
also shows the percentage of the email that has been displayed so far.
The bottom couple of lines of the screen is a command menu of sorts.

In all of my boxes, except for the Windows 7 box, when I hit the space
bar, JAWS just reads whatever changed on the screen. So, it doesn't
reread the top line of the screen, except for the percentage which
changes. And, it doesn't read the bottom two lines of the screen.
On my windows 7 box, when I hit the space bar, it rereads the entire first
line of the screen. This is rather annoying.

I am not sure why the difference, since I am running the same version of
JAWS on all the boxes.

I have never messed around with JAWS frames, but am wondering, can I set
up a frame that encompasses most of the first line of the screen and then
sets it to silent mode or something like that. This is definitely
reminiscent of VocalEyes back in the day.

Any suggestions on how to go about this?

Thanks.

I first researched the application...Google worked well for doing that.
If it was something that proved to not be crucial for the laptop, I

would not necessarily have to uninstall it. I just chose to have it
gone as I was never going to use it.

[JAWS-Users] Qwitter

2010-12-03 Thread David Ferrin
I just obtained a fairly so far as I can tell extensive guide on how to use the
program and hope to post it on the tips and tricks page shortly. I know almost
nothing about the program myself and don't plan on changing that fact for the
time being at least. Never the less those of you who do use it check it out and
let me know if anything needs corrected or changed.

There are over 40 keystrokes listed so I should imagine it does cover
everything pretty well. If it is as good as it seems then it may just benefit a
lot of people out there. The thing is do I place it on the programs page where
the client is listed for download or tips and tricks? Maybe the programs page
would be better in that you could do all of your shopping in this area in a

Hopefully this is the hardest choice I have to make today, it won't be but I

bar, JAWS just reads whatever changed on the screen. So, it doesn't
reread the top line of the screen, except for the percentage which
changes. And, it doesn't read the bottom two lines of the screen.
On my windows 7 box, when I hit the space bar, it rereads the entire
first line of the screen.

Thanks.

Hi folks, My laptop XP3 with Jaws 11, has just started rebooting all by its
self, for no observable reason.

Since no virus was found, I am thinking of going back to my last restore
point.

Will I loose any of my Word documents or any of the books I have downloaded
from bookshare, if I do so?

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Vicky

You won't lose any documents from My Documents and its subfolders if you
do a Restore point; but, given the problem is that your computer is
rebooting itself, probably due to either loss of an power or incipient
hard drive failure, a Restore point isn't likely to solve it.

Hi,
I have Jaws 12, XP pro,

The spell checker does not work in Outlook Express. I do not have the

I am the worlds worst speller so I have to compose a message in word and

Re: [JAWS-Users] Silencing part of the screen.

2010-12-03 Thread Doris and Chris
Once upon a time, I believe the jaws basic training had an example on
how to create a frame around the clock in the system tray to silence
that area. I have no idea if this is still included in the basic
training or available as aaanother training module. Maybe Mr.Eric
knows the answer to that.

Hello Dan,

While I haven't done this in a very long time, you are correct
about using frames to silence parts of the screen. Well, it worked
in much earlier versions of JAWS anyway.

I don't remember how it is done but the documentation should
refresh the memory.

This is pretty obscure, so not sure anyone will have a suggestion,
but here goes.

Firstly, this issue is occurring essentially in a terminal window,
IE, when I am running in Cygwin, a linux-like command-line
interface on a Windows box.

On all of my machines, except for my newest 64 bit Windows 7 box,
I have no problem. When I am using my email client, Pine, it
shows the first screen of information, when you hit the space bar,
it shows the next screen full of text. The top line of the screen
stays mostly the same, showing the Pine version, message number,
and a couple of other things, it also shows the percentage of the
email that has been displayed so far. The bottom couple of lines
of the screen is a command menu of sorts.

In all of my boxes, except for the Windows 7 box, when I hit the
space bar, JAWS just reads whatever changed on the screen. So, it
doesn't reread the top line of the screen, except for the
percentage which changes. And, it doesn't read the bottom two
lines of the screen.
On my windows 7 box, when I hit the space bar, it rereads the
entire first line of the screen. This is rather annoying.

I am not sure why the difference, since I am running the same
version of JAWS on all the boxes.

screen and then sets it to silent mode or something like
that. This is definitely reminiscent of VocalEyes back in the day.

Any suggestions on how to go about this?
