[JAWS-Users] Considering leaving

2010-12-20 Thread chris hallsworth

Hello all.
I am considering to leave this list by the new year. The reason is I am
no longer a JAWS user; I use a screen reader beginning with n as my
primary and only screen reader both on my laptop and netbook. Plus, my
SMA for JAWS has expired and I not only can't afford the upgrade; I
don't need to either.
It's been a great list. I hope my contributions has helped. I wish you
all the best in your use of JAWS now and in the future. I'm sorry,
there's just reasons I don't wish to go into here as to why I blatently
refuse to use JAWS on my machines.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Good recommendation Dave.

www.vipconduit.com

You have to download the client which you can do from the home page.

and Mr. Tekkie Dave is the tech captain on the good ship

the tekkies on the other sites do on theirs, i am sure.

Any of these chat sites for the blind are great places to make
friends, find support and also learn a lot about technology and
other things. the vip as well as the other chat sites offer tech
related events and classes on different subjects.

and while we are talking about tech events and classes on the
different chat sites, while not primarily a chat site, Accessible World at

hosts regular tech and other events. It also uses the tc5 chat client.

Keep on chatting, enjoying and helping each other!

jaws versions from 11 up (actualy from a later build of jaws 10 up)

Likewise, the vipcommunicator client used on vipconduit and tafn also
uses sapi speech. the interface is accessible out of the box to

the chatterbox client used by "for the people" is not self-voicing

Good recommendation Dave.

www.vipconduit.com

is a chat site for the blind and visually impaired.

You have to download the client which you can do from the home page.

Hi doris,
Thanks for the sites. I will sure check them all out. Yahoo does have chat
rooms and I tried using it but it was very inaccessible. I did not know about
scripts. Will have to check them out.

If you are asking about yahoo instant Messenger, depending on your version of
jaws, scripts are included for it. You will need to find a version of Yahoo IM
that works with your version of jaws or will need to find updated scripts. I
don't know if yahoo IM supports group chats and if so, if this feature is
supported by jaws.

If you are referring to some chat feature somewhere on the yahoo.com website, I
am not sure about that. Oftentimes webgbased chat is not or not easily
accessible.

AS for accessible voice chat sites frequented by the blind, there are many
choices and different personal preferences. I have taken the below list from
the afore-mentioned vipconduit's "items of interst" section:

audio-tips:

http://www.audio-tips.com/

Fantasy Ltd:

http://www.fantasyltd.com/

For the people:

http://www.for-the-people.com/

In the Blind Spot

http://www.intheblindspot.com/

Interactive Christian Community (all-Christian chat site)

http://www.iccsite.com/

New Visions Network

http://new-visions-network.com/

Out of Sight

http://www.out-of-sight.net/

The accessible Friends Network (based in the U.K.)

http://www.tafn.org.uk/

Most of the above chat sites use the tc5 chat client from talking Communities;
"for the people" uses the chatterbox chat client", and vipconduit and tafn use
the VIPCommunicator chat client.

all of these chat clients can be used by the blind and work in much the same
way as they employ a "push to talk" system by which one speaker at a time can
talk while holding down a specified key on the keyboard, most often the control
key.

Hi,
I could not remember the hot key for Narrator which is windows+u, so I
decided to type

Windows+a, Windows+b... Windows+z.
Well windows+l does something but don't know what and I lost Jaws and had
to reboot.

Does anyone know what this key does?
Also, I think windows+n or maybe it was Windows+p but my printer made
some noise.

Anyone know these key combos or where to get them?
Thanks,
Ann

Windows l locks the computer. You would need to then hit control alt
delete, and type in your pwd to unlock the machine.

[JAWS-Users] daily information

2010-12-20 Thread David Ferrin
Daily Tip:
Locate Text In Long Documents

If you've ever worked with a lengthy document in Word 2010, you know how
difficult it can be

to find specific information for review or editing. However, you can use the
Find feature to

quickly locate the text. To do this, press CTRL-F to display the Find panel on
the left side

of the Word window. Type the text or phrase you're trying to locate in the text
box and

press ENTER. Keep pressing ENTER to work through the text Word finds until you
reach the

data you're looking for.

  Daily Term:
locked file

A computer file that cannot be altered. Normal users of such files cannot alter
the

information they contain, change their location, or alter their names.
David Ferrin
Most people don't know what they're doing and a lot of them are really good at
it.
