Although I have been a JAWS user for many years now I am finding the voice irritating in comparison to the voice over on the IPhone. I am using JAWS 12 and windows 7 and seem unable to get the different voices to work apart from Daniel there’s a female English voice isn't there how do I install this so it will work and how do I make it my default voice for everything please? Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Voices.
Quite easy go to the options menu of Jaws then down arrow to voices which is a sub menu and right arrow to voice adjustment after entering you will tab through several selections profile is where you will have general choices like eloquence default real speak , sappy wherever you leave this choice determines the following selections tab through this and you will have a choice for all contexts or down to other selections like PC voice, jaws cursor voice, tutor and message voice and then if you wish something other than all contexts you need to select a specific selection like Daniel, Paul etc. if you leave the selection in profile to eloquence your selections will be reed, Grandpa, Bobby, Glenn Rocco and several others. [JAWS-Users] Jaws problem in IE 8
Greetings, I wonder if someone can help with a problem. When ever I use the key stroke jaws key, control and home to get to the search field on a web page, the machine tends to freeze. After about a minute or so Jaws starts reading the data execution dialogue box that the internet explorer was closed due to some security issue where as the web page is still open. I am using Jaws 10 and IE 8 on a Vista Business platform. I'd appreciate if someone could tell how to fix this issue and whether it is Jaws related. I am sure that it has only started recently possibly after a memory upgrade. [JAWS-Users] Super script
Thank you Mike for helping me with this annoying problem. It worked gurhrhrhrhrhhrhrhrhhrhrhrhrhhrrhrhhrhr ate Patti Hi Patti; Below are 2 different things to stop Jaws from saying that superscript crap. Open the Microsoft Word Configuration Manager. Use Insert with F2 to bring up the list of managers and then press C until you get to the Configuration Manager. Press enter to open the Microsoft Word.JCF file. Press Alt with S to bring up the settings menu and then use the down arrow key to find the Text processing choice and press the enter key. In the resultant dialog box use the tab key until you get to the enhanced edit support checkbox and press spacebar to uncheck the box. Use the tab key to move to the OK button and press enter. Use CTRL-S to save changes and close the Microsoft Word.JCF file. The above should stop JAWS from announcing the superscript and subscript text attributes. The enhanced edit mode is checked by default in the Microsoft Word.JCF settings but not in the Default.JCF. If you don't want Word to use the superscript then you can also do the following: (this is for Word 2003). 1. Open the tools menu with Alt-T. 2. Use the up arrow key to move to the AutoCorrect options menu choice and press enter. 3. Use your tab key to move to the page tabs and then use the right arrow key to move to the auto format as you type page. 4. Use the tab key to move into a list of choices. 5. Use down arrow key to move to the ordinals with superscript choice and uncheck it by using the spacebar. 6. Use the tab key to move to the OK button and press spacebar. The above is only if you want to change the way Word replaces ordinals with the superscript attribute. Hope this helps. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows 7 Start Menu
Well already answered that one, but will again, also to why some think this is off topic. When you hit start menu in windows7 you get a search field, nothing like xp, its a whole new ball game. See the problem your having is not with jaws or has anything to do with jaws. That is why off topic. When you open that up and arrow down it closed, because nothing has ben searched for. However, if you do a up arrow or a left arrow. You will find lists of many choices to choose from. personally the computing list or a windows7 list would of fit the bill, but not a mod here. I just answer questions. At 10:05 AM 1/3/2011, you wrote: If it were a general question, I would have posted it to the blind-computing list. Re: [JAWS-Users] Business version of Skype with Jaws
NO difference in functionality nor interaction with jaws. The corporate version uses a msi rather than an .exe installer and does not try to install a google toolbar. It also does not install the extra manager and as part of this also no skype4com.dll. this has absolutley no impact on its functionality nor how jaws sees it and most users will never know the difference. If you need skype4com for some reasons - some apps accessing the skype api do - you can download and install and register the skype4com.dll manually. Again, though, jaws will work fine with the business version and so will the jaws scripts or skypetalking. I prefer the business version as it does not try to install a gooogletoolba Also, in case of skype 3.8, it does not perform an unsolicited upgrade if this is disabled in its options. hth Doris At 01:21 PM 1/3/2011, you wrote: Hello list, I was thinking about delving into the world of Skype for my communication needs. [JAWS-Users] How to get JAWS to treat â as an apostrophe
Hi all, I tried pasting those symbols into the JAWS pronunciation dictionary and told it to say nothing when it saw them, and I tried telling JAWS to treat those symbols as an apostrophe, but no joy. They seem to occur more and more often these days. I'm not sure, but I think it has something to do with things like smart quotes in Word, and it used to come from my friends who have Macintosh computers, but now I see it a lot. As an example, the word can't comes in as canât, but not from everyone. Ideas? Betsy Teamwork: Together we achieve the extraordinary.
