Yes, that's the one. I thought it was called Suspend or similar, but
can't find any reference to it at all in the JAWS help docs.

You can always minimize every thing then tab to the system tray from
the desktop. Once on the desktop, I tab once to start button, twice

Use the down arrow key to move through the system tray choices, then

If this doesn't work, you could always just unload and then restart

Hello Lisa. The problem is this. I am not hearing anything when I
click on the program. also when I go to the system tray it says
computer at risk. but this icon only shows up for a minute and then
when you go back to the system tray it is gone. I tried even going
so far as to download a copy demo of jaws 11 to see if another
blind friend of mine could use the tandum feature to see what was
going on. also when I did click on the icon that says computer at
risk it brings me in to the context menu of active sink witch it
shouldn't do and I get choices like tyal windows vertically etc. I
have even tried clicking on Microsoft security esentchels in the
programs menu and nothing happens it just says enter and start
button. so in short this is really weird and quite frustrating. I
am running windows xp home sp 3 and jaws 7.0. I hope that this info
helps out to see where or what options I have left to solve this. from Mich.

Mich, the dialog of MSE is a bit of a combination between a
Windows seven menu structure and a old school layout.

Are you asking MSE to scan your PC or what? when you first open
the program, you should be sitting on a scan now button. If you
press enter here, I believe the default is to do a quick scan,
which really doesn't take all that long if I remember correctly.

It's not very obvious while it's scanning; you won't get anything
on a status line, there's no progress beeps or anything like that,
and because it doesn't use resources, you won't know until you
actually open the main window. I use my JAWS cursor to read
around in here, but you can also tab to the different options for
the scanning preferences.

When you go to the system tray, is there an icon in the list
saying computer status protected or computer status unprotected?

If you haven't gotten this far, let us know so we can suggest
other things. Are you getting an error message, or do you just not
know for sure if you're in the MSE window. I'd assume that an
earlier version of JAWS would work with this because the buttons
and other options are clearly labeled, but this could also be an issue.

My son's computer acted like this about a month ago. It turns out that he
was infected by Spyware that stopped Microsoft Security Essentials, Super
Anti-Spyware and Malware Bytes from completely launching. My son could see
them start, then disappear. It also blocked many sites in IE from going to
the most popular anti-virus sites, especially sites that scan from the
browser.

However, Microsoft already has another fairly good virus / Spyware scanner
already installed. It is updated each month. It is called the Microsoft
Malicious Software Tool (MRT). To start this scan, press the Windows key in
combination with the r key, then type "mrt" without the quotes and hit
Enter. Follow the directions, but make sure you select the "thorough" scan.

Normally when I discover a virus on my computer, I just restore an disk
image backup. However, I got lazy with his computer which has no real data
to lose, just reinstall a bunch of games.

Don Marang

There is just so much stuff in the world that, to me, is devoid of any real
substance, value, and content that I just try to make sure that I am working
on things that matter.

[JAWS-Users] Fire Fox instead of Internet Explorer?

2011-02-16 Thread Victoria Vaughan
I am using Jaws 11 on an XP machine. So far I have stayed with Internet
Explorer V7.

Adobe Flash has been a problem for me.
Some people, on another list, say, Flash is not a problem in Fire Fox.

Have any of you tried Fire Fox? Are there Jaws keyboard commands for it?Has
Flash troubled you by saying it needed to be installed, even though you had
installed it on a previous occasion? How different have you found its commands
to be from Internet Explorer 7? Were you able to use Google? Were you able to
transfer your favorites?

Many thanks in advance for any information! Vicky

What people don't often know, is if you want to use the KNFB reader's
phone, you will have to buy one of the smart phone screen readers, like
Talx or Mobile Speak. You will also need one of these programs if you
want to do anything outside the reader, such as change any phone
settings that are not controlled directly by the reader, and, to update
the reader software.

Mich, the dialog of MSE is a bit of a combination between a Windows
seven
menu structure and a old school layout.

Are you asking MSE to scan your PC or what? when you first open the
program, you should be sitting on a scan now button. If you press enter

here, I believe the default is to do a quick scan, which really doesn't
take
all that long if I remember correctly.

It's not very obvious while it's scanning; you won't get anything on a
status line, there's no progress beeps or anything like that, and
because it
doesn't use resources, you won't know until you actually open the main
window. I use my JAWS cursor to read around in here, but you can also
tab
to the different options for the scanning preferences.

When you go to the system tray, is there an icon in the list saying
computer
status protected or computer status unprotected?

If you haven't gotten this far, let us know so we can suggest other
things.
Are you getting an error message, or do you just not know for sure if
you're
in the MSE window. I'd assume that an earlier version of JAWS would
work
with this because the buttons and other options are clearly labeled, but

this could also be an issue.

Re: [JAWS-Users] help with getting mse to work.

2011-02-16 Thread Lisa belville

Mich,

Someone posted a link to this application on this list back in August
because so many of us were having issues uninstalling AVAST.

I tried this program and it worked beautifully. I removed AVAST and
installed MSE within minutes.

The program's interface is like a web page, and the instructions are very
straight forward. Plus it's shareware, or was when I used it in mid August,
2010.

The link to download it is http://appremover.com/.

I'm currently running MSE, but my brain is blanking on the URL to download
it. You might try going through Windows Update.

Hello,
From what I understand the latest version of MSE does not support windows
xp. This may be your problem.

Hi all. I installed mse on my os running windows xp sp 3 and jaws 7.0.
I have un installed avast and have tried to get mse to work but it just
doesn't seem to want to. when ever I click on the open icon in either
the mse icon in the system tray that says computer is at risk before it
go's away again I mean or when I go to programs under my computer and
click on it there it says open Microsoft active sink witch is a program
that I have on my pc for my trekker gps to sink with my pc. I am finding
this really frustrating. many thanks for any help that any one can give
me. I am also wanting to know what version of Yahoo messenger works well
with jaws 7.0 and windows xp? and where I can find it? I had to un
install my version do to jaws not reading the messages that other people
were trying to send me. it also wouldn't say typing window and display
window when I hit f 6 to display those in yahoo messenger. I tried
looking on the jaws-users.com sight but can't find either the program or
the tips and tricks page that talks about what changes to make to make
this program work with jaws. this to is very frustrating as well. any
help on either of these would be grate. many thanks. from Mich.

I do not have a tuner card. I have DirecTV, who was developing a
dual tuner card in partnership with Microsoft several years
ago. They had the hardware and software developed but never
released it because they had disagreements with Microsoft!

I simply was given a DirecTV DVR because their support for DVS was
so poor. It is not very accessible either except that it can be
programmed from their website.

Hi Don, I'm finally getting around to replacing my TV Tuner card.
I've been saving messages I thought might help and so came across yours.

Please, what is the make and mottle of your tuner card? Will it
also give access to FM radio?
Did you half to figure out everything on your own, or was the
manual accessible or the menus self explanatory?

Many thanks for any info! Vicky

I do not know which tuner card software is accessible. I use an
on-line TV Guide, TitanTV.com, which is very accessible. It
also is designed to worrk with tuner card and Personal Video
Recorder (PVR) software. The site makes it easy to record the
show that you are browsing in the grid. It will send commands to
the software to set the recording. There are also help pages
identifying and comparing all of the TV tuner cards and
software. Perhaps this will help?

Hi Folks,

I recently purchased a TV Tuner card for my PC, an internal one
to be exact.

I am currently using Windows XP Home Edition and Jaws 11 latest build.

The software to watch and record live TV with the card is
almost wholly inaccessible, so I was wondering what software I
could use, preferably free, as all my money went out the door
for the card that is accessible, or, at the very least,
accessible to the tune of the Jaws cursor, and is able to run on Windows XP.

Oh, and in case any of you are thinking about it, no, upgrading
operating systems is not an option for me at the moment.

Either way, thanks for everyone's help folks.

[JAWS-Users] problum reading messages in yahoo messenger 8 with jaws 7

2011-02-16 Thread Mich
Hi. I seem to have figured out some of the yahoo messenger 8 problems I am
having. The only one I can't seem to figure out is how to read my messages from
people when they message me or when I message them. I have the following
settings set. Skin is classic, the fawnt setting is aerial and it is set to 8
and I have un checked everything in the hide/ show menu. I also have
uninstalled the yahoo toolbar, yahoo browser services, and any other junk that
came with yahoo except messenger. I have also installed the scripts for yahoo
messenger 8 and Jaws 7. I have a feeling that I am missing something though.
since when I hit f 6 it says typing window and display window but normally if I
arrow up it will say something in the message display window like the person
who I am talking to is offline and I am not hearing that. many thanks if you
could help. from Mich.
