Re: [JAWS-Users] changing the Jaws voice in the say all command

2011-08-22 Thread jason smith
Hi Riana. Thanks for that. Like I said earlier. I had used the realspeak
voices in the alternate say all command before. As I installed them from the
second CD, that came with an earlier version of Jaws. I think it was Jaws 10
or 11? So I assumed, that they would still be available on my system to use
with Jaws 12? I have redownloaded them again from the FS website. Like you
suggested. Surely we don't have to keep reinstalling them with every
subsequent version of Jaws?
I am still having trouble, finding where to go? So as to select which
voice I want to use? I have listened to the Jaws training book. On how to
choose an alternate voice during say all. But the options and menus they
discuss. Are not there. I have also looked under the settings area of the
utilities menu. As suggested by another list member. But still with no luck.
Do you or any other list members have any suggestions? As to what i may be
doing wrong. Again, I am using Jaws 12 on an XP home machine.

Thanks again
Jason

Hello Jason,

It may be that you still need to install the additional voices, which
you can download from the fs site.

They don't install automatically upon installation of jaws.

After that, you would have to create profiles for the voices you want to
use, before you'd be able to switch to them.

Hi list. In the past. I made use of the option in Jaws. That lets you
specify one of the real speak voices. To be used in the say all command
in Jaws. Which then automatically switches back to eloquence for normal
navigation etc. However, I turned that feature off quite some time ago.
I now wish to turn it back on. I followed the steps for doing so. As
outlined in the Jaws training tutorial. However, I don't seem to be able
to get it to work again. I am using Jaws 12. Are the real speak voices,
no longer included as part of the Jaws installation? Is that where I am
going wrong? As I only have the one software CD for Jaws 12. That was
sent to me.

Thanks Jason

no the settings are still the same as they are with 11. The only thing
that's different with 12 is you have to go to your settings center under
your utillities menue. I hope this helps. One of my friend's name Angel
Murphy is also helping me.

Re: [JAWS-Users] changing the Jaws voice in the say all command

2011-08-22 Thread Van Der Walt Riana
Hello Jason,

I'm using jaws 11 at work, the pc from which I'm replying now but use
jaws 12 on two computers at home.

I'm not on the jaws list at my home address, but will forward the
message and look again tonight, but as far as I can recall, you don't go
into the settings centre, just try the following:

Choose the jaws context menu with the long insert key together with j,
Then choose options,
Then press v for voices and
Enter on or press V again for voice adjustment.
Then you are, after a few seconds, supposed to be on the profile, which
would currently probably be on eloquence.
Press enter to get into the combo box and arrow through the profiles.
If you don't have one set up yet for the specific realspeak voice you
wish to use, go into, by enter, the real speak profile.
Tab down to the further options, inter alia language where you want
english, probably your default already, then, on a further tab choose,
with the arrow keys, the relevant person, like e.g. Daniel.

All the realspeak voices already installed on your computer should be
listed under the voice person of the realspeak profile.

Tab further down and change the settings accordingly and save the voice
under e.g. realspeak Daniel, or whatever relevant.
Decide whether you want it to become the default jaws voice on the
prompt after saving, which I wouldn't recommend, as it's a bit less
responsive than eloquence for other jobs than reading.
Then save finally and when you in future use the on the fly command to
switch among profiles, it will show up.

I'll check tonighton jaws 12, but I'm fairly sure I've covered the
necessary steps.

Riana

[JAWS-Users] Talking Stopwatch/Countdown Timer for Windows 7?

Hi

Does anyone know where I could look for someone that could repair an old
Dectalk Express speech synthesizer. I have an old Dectalk Express that I
would like to start using again, since the Dectalk Access32 synthesizer
won't work under Windows 7. Unfortunately my old unit has sat in its case
in a drawer for the last 5 or 6 years. So after I got it out and put it on
the charger for several days, it won't do anything when I turn it on. It
used to make sort of a beep and give a startup message. Also when I try to
switch to it in JAWS 12, I hear a lot of quiet. I think that the battery is
completely dead and won't take a charge.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws 11 and excel 2003

2011-08-22 Thread Bissett, Tom
Hi, I have started having a problem with jaws Version 11.0.1476 and excel 2003.
After having excel open and using it for a while I alt tab away and back and
excel will no longer speak. Absolutely no feed back.
Just to make things complicated it is inconsistent, sometimes it works and then
it won't. I can't figure out what may be causing this behaviour.
Any thoughts?

Re: [JAWS-Users] Save v Save as

2011-08-22 Thread ckrugman
Using the "Save as" feature also allows you to make changes to the original
document while keeping the original in tact. An example might be if you have
a document created as a letter that you would send on more than one
occasion. If you Save the document using "Save as" you can change the file
name from the original to the new document saved as "name of document"then
add the person who it is going to. Working with many nonprofit organizations
I use this type of feature when acknowledging donations where I create the
new document and then customize it as necessary including name and address
of donor and filling in the amount of the donation as part of the
acknowledgement.

save as is a double use item, 1. the first time you save a new item, the
"save" command invokes the save as command so you can name the document,
choose the file type you wish to save it as, and select the location where
you want it saved.

the second time you use "save" it saves any changes you have made to the
document since the last time it was saved.
if you use save as, as the other person said, it allows you to change the
file type, you can also change the name of the document, and where its
saved

so if I have made a list of things required for a project, and wish to
copy it to my roommates shared documents folder on the house network, I
could copy it and paste it there, I could use the send options I have
added to my send menu, or if I have it open, or wish to do it this way I
can use the "save as" command in the file menu to select his shared drive
as the "where to save" location, enter on the save button, and *bang!* he
now has a copy of the document.

"Save as" I think allows you to save in a different format from the
original.

Example: you have a document with extension .docx and you nedd to save
it

as a txt.

Hope that helps.
