Re: [JAWS-Users] select and copy internet option

2011-08-29 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Andrew,

All the information should be included whether you copy text using "select
and copy from virtual cursor" or "select and copy full content using on
screen highlight." When JAWS presents information in a virtual window,
pieces of information that might actually appear next to each other on the
screen can be presented as being on separate lines. This makes it easier to
hear and interpret in many cases. Let's say that you have a table of
information that consists of five columns and twenty-five rows. In the
virtual buffer, each cell of information might be shown on a separate line.
With five columns across and twenty-five rows, this would mean that you have
one hundred and twenty-five lines of information. The same table actually
appears on the screen with five columns across and twenty-five rows
vertically, meaning that only twenty-five lines are used when the
information is presented as it appears on the screen. Of course, it isn't
always exact because you might have cells that wrap, empty cells and so on
that will not make the total of lines used the exact result of number of
columns times number of rows. However, in the example, if each cell of
information can fit on a single line then with five columns and twenty-five
rows you would end up with one hundred and twenty-five lines of information.
When you copy the information from virtual cursor, it is copied as it is
presented, which in the example would be as one hundred and twenty-five
lines of information. When you copy the information as shown on screen, it
is copied as twenty-five lines. When you paste the copied information from
the clipboard into a document, Windows will paste it as it was copied.

Take care.

Hi all, I have an online document I wish to copy to Microsoft word
to have so I've got it even when my internet temporarily stops working. I
firstly copied it into a blank document using the jaws option copy full text
from virtual cursor. The document turned out to be 88 pages. I then decided
to try copying it using on screen highlight, and the document turned out to
be 34 pages, although formatting wasn't there. Just wondering if anyone can
please tell me why the document was shorter when the text is copied using on
screen highlight? Is all the info still there?
Kind regards,

although it may sound I am trying to under-estimate you but trust me, that's
not the case at all. when you extracted the scripts, did you copy the
scripts themselves or the extracted folder? because, they did work for me
for sometime till I upgraded to the latest builds of jaws 12. now the
scripts no more work with jaws in the chat window at all, while they still
work in the messenger window, telling you who all are online & what are
their status messages.
I was hoping I would be able to find some way to recreate the jss file
for the scripts, so as to be able to modify & add the necessary things in
them but unfortunately, jaws has no documentation around retrieving the lost
jss files. writing across to some honchos for the same at fs also yielded no
positive results for the same.
I am sorry, I have no experience with using AIM. have never used it.

[JAWS-Users] Purchasing Voices for JAWS

2011-08-29 Thread Lisa belville

Hi.

I'm using JAWS 10 and Windows XP Sp 3.

I'm looking at additional voices from the nextup site and I want to be sure
they work before I purchase them.

I'm particularly interested in Tracy from Acapela and a couple of the
character voices from Cepstral.

I've installed the Real Speak voices with JAWS, but these were on the JAWS
CD and not something I've downloaded and purchased separately.

the exact URL is http://www.nextup.com/TextAloud/SpeechEngine/voices.html

TIA

Hi Sean,

Try the following;

1. Open a new message.

2. Press Alt + V for the view menu.

3. Press enter on All Headers or just press the letter " A ".

For using the BCC field temporarily press Alt + B in an open message. The
Alt + B keystroke will work as a toggle when using it this way. Hope this
helps.
Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Question about virtual software

2011-08-29 Thread Don Marang
The VMware Player is free and there is a more advanced program BMware
Workstation wich has to be purchased. The last time I checked it was
arount $190. It adds features like taking snapshots and movies to make
it easier to restore previous states of the guest Operating System.
Since the guest Operating System is contained in files, making a copy of
the entire directory of the Virtual Machine provides an easy backup,
acting much like a snapshot.

There are JAWS scripts that were written by Chris Hallsworth and myself.
We started them for Player 2.5, which had many accessibility issues.
Player 3.x really does not require any scripts. The Player now also
allows you to create Virtual Machines just like Workstation. In my view,
the Player free product meets most users needs. Advanced users might
want to consider the added features of Workstation.

The scripts for Player and Workstation are bundled together and located at:

http://mysite.verizon.net/marangs/VMware.html

Verizon no longer allows ftp to their free web space, so these pages
will be moved soon to DonaldMarang.org.

ok the big trouble is I don't know and neither do you, the "translation"
from menu's to ribbons, but I have some tutorials on windows live mail, so
hopefully one of them will give you the information you need.

first is:
for an audio tutorial on using windows live mail!
go too:
www.accessibleworld.org
and look for the presentation by someone named Mr. Asner.
Its an MP3 file that you can download and listen too.

here is another good one:
http://email.about.com/od/windowsmailtips/Windows_Mail_Tips_Tricks_and_Secrets.htm

ok now this sounds very similar to your troubles and the fix for them:

ok, this is a corrected and headers removed version of a series of Emails
concerning the "HOW it reads" and the altering of this in windows live
mail,

I've put them back in the order they came in instead of the last is first
chronology they wind up in to make reading easier for folks.

starting in correct order from first request to end of problem fix, first
post:

 hello folks

in windows vista and XP I was able to sort how emails were viewed and
read
by jaws. my emails are now being read by. the name of the sender first
then
the date then the time then the subject and then which folder it is in.
can
I sort this so the subject is being read first then the sender and then
the
date and time if I want it. or maybe stop the date and time and folder
which

it is being read from not to be announced. I cant find any options in the
view menu to do this. many thanks in advance.

 regards
 Vincent

next:

Hi Vincent,

you can open the Columns dialog from the view menu - I think this allows
you to do what you want to do,

David.

next:
hello David

it is saying all the time that columns are unavailable. I thought that was
were I done it in vista and XP. but it says unavailable. can you suggest
how

to activate this.

regards
Vincent

Next:
this is one thing to try:
1. Open the layout dialog on the view menu.
2. Move to the Message list button, and press it using spacebar.
3. When you do this, the button expands and shows some text and controls
which Jaws (and probably other screen readers don't automatically read.
What's there is the text Show messages using: followed by a group of three
radio buttons: Choose view automatically;
two-line view; and one-line view. By default it seems to be set to choose
view automatically, and on my machine if it's set to that or the one-line
view, then I can access the columns dialog. However if it's set to two
line

view, the the columns dialog is unavailable, and the reading order of
subject, date etc is as you've previously described. The easiest was to
set

an option is to use it's access key:
Choose view automatically (alt+u), two-line view (alt+t), one-line view
(alt+o). Once you've used an access key jaws reads it, and you can the use
up and down arrows to read the other options if you want to. (The other
way

of accessing the options if to route jaws to cursor, read a word at a time
to get to any word in the options, and then route pc to jaws cursor).

best wishes,
David.

ok, hope these help you with that trouble!
you may be able to find a list for the ribbon commands on the microsoft
site, I have one, but its for word 2010 and its ribbon, not WLM.

the last thing is there is a program that returns the ribbons to menu like
arrangements if you would want to install it, but I'd really try to get
used

to the ribbons since more and more things are starting to use them!

take care,
inthaneelf

for all of this - I now have my emails saying who they are from etc but now

messages show up.
I will definitely listen to the MP3's but currently trying to sort out my

So this bit more info would be highly appreciated

I had the problem like the example you showed where it said columns

ok the big trouble is I don't know and neither do you, the "translation"
from menu's to ribbons, but I have some tutorials on windows live mail, so
hopefully one of them will give you the information you need.

first is:
for an audio tutorial on using windows live mail!
go too:
www.accessibleworld.org
and look for the presentation by someone named Mr. Asner.
Its an MP3 file that you can download and listen too.

here is another good one:
http://email.about.com/od/windowsmailtips/Windows_Mail_Tips_Tricks_and_Secre
ts.htm

ok now this sounds very similar to your troubles and the fix for them:

ok, this is a corrected and headers removed version of a series of Emails
concerning the "HOW it reads" and the altering of this in windows live mail,
I've put them back in the order they came in instead of the last is first
chronology they wind up in to make reading easier for folks.

starting in correct order from first request to end of problem fix, first
post:

  hello folks

in windows vista and XP I was able to sort how emails were viewed and read
by jaws. my emails are now being read by. the name of the sender first then
the date then the time then the subject and then which folder it is in. can
I sort this so the subject is being read first then the sender and then the
date and time if I want it. or maybe stop the date and time and folder which
it is being read from not to be announced. I cant find any options in the
view menu to do this. many thanks in advance.

  regards
  Vincent

next:

Hi Vincent,

you can open the Columns dialog from the view menu - I think this allows
you to do what you want to do,

David.

next:
hello David

it is saying all the time that columns are unavailable. I thought that was
were I done it in vista and XP. but it says unavailable. can you suggest how
to activate this.

regards
Vincent

Next:
this is one thing to try:
1. Open the layout dialog on the view menu.
2. Move to the Message list button, and press it using spacebar.
3. When you do this, the button expands and shows some text and controls
which Jaws (and probably other screen readers don't automatically read.
What's there is the text Show messages using: followed by a group of three
radio buttons: Choose view automatically;
two-line view; and one-line view. By default it seems to be set to choose
view automatically, and on my machine if it's set to that or the one-line
view, then I can access the columns dialog. However if it's set to two line
view, the the columns dialog is unavailable, and the reading order of
subject, date etc is as you've previously described. The easiest was to set
an option is to use it's access key:
Choose view automatically (alt+u), two-line view (alt+t), one-line view
(alt+o). Once you've used an access key jaws reads it, and you can the use
up and down arrows to read the other options if you want to. (The other way
of accessing the options if to route jaws to cursor, read a word at a time
to get to any word in the options, and then route pc to jaws cursor).

best wishes,
David.

ok, hope these help you with that trouble!
you may be able to find a list for the ribbon commands on the microsoft
site, I have one, but its for word 2010 and its ribbon, not WLM.

the last thing is there is a program that returns the ribbons to menu like
arrangements if you would want to install it, but I'd really try to get used
to the ribbons since more and more things are starting to use them!

take care,
inthaneelf
