Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail

2011-11-21 Thread vrvaughan
Hi Mike, I just found out, that if I use the Right Arrow after useing
Control+Shift+C, that I can read all the addresses that I thought I'd lost.
However, pressing Enter on a name there, takes me into the Properties rather
than filling in the "To" field

How do you select a name and start a new email?

Thanks! Vicky

Hi Vicky,

While in Windows Mail try the control, shift, + C keystroke. The address
book in Windows Mail is called contacts. Outside of Windows Mail, press
the

Windows key to open the start menu & type, contacts, in the search box &
press enter. Hope this helped without confusing the hell out of you! LOL

Then try changing the keystroke in keyboard manager.
1. press insert+8 from keyboard row. Keyboard manager will open.
2. press ctrl+shift+d to open the default file.
3. press tab to go in the list of keystrokes.
4. press ctrl+f to find specific keystroke.
5. Press the keystroke that works for you to read with alternate voice and
press enter.

6. When it finds it press ctrl+a to change it.
7. Press the keystroke you want from now on and press enter.
Hope this helps.

That was the first thing I checked. It is set to Desktop :). I'm in no
hurry to reinstall. I did try a different keyboard as well but it does
same. I found out today however, that left alt key does work with the ctrl
alt page up/down to change speech rate on the fly. I don't have any other
adaptable software running other than Qwitter which I unloded thinking
some strange key assignment came into play. I don't have any alternative
scripts other than Skype scripts, but I had those on an older machine with
no issue/conflict.

Regions and Language settings for the keyboard shows US English but good
thought. What is strange is, the left ALT key works in every other
situation I've tried, plus this: if you go into help mode with insert
1,

and press Insert + rightAlt key + down arrow, Jaws help tells you it will
read in an alternative voice. If however, you press insert + leftAlt +
down arrow, it says nothing. Conversely, if you press insert, + either
right or left alt key, + "s" key for instance, the result is the same,
gives you the voice profile box, or help if in help mode. So it appears
it is a Jaws issue specific to that hot key combination somehow rather
than a keyboard or settings issue. I'd not found it an issue anywhere
else. I can live with it, but yes maybe down the road if I get some
time,

I'll save my settings somewhere and un-, re-install Jaws and see if that
helps. Appreciate your taking some idea swings at it though.

Ok mystery solved but still weird. I've always used the left alt key
for

this combination, I'd be curious what you use. Jaws is not recognizing
the left alt key in these key combos. The alt key works by itself and
with other non-Jaws key combination hot keys I've set up for apps and
such, but it will not work for this or other Jaws features. It does
work
with the right alt key. Additionally I do not have "differentiate
between
left and right paired keys" set in the settings manager so it ought
not

make a difference.

First, the settings are in jaws/options.voices/voice adjustment.
Second, if you adjust the speech synthesizer (alt+l) and choose sapi5,
it will work by pressing insert+down arrow. If you set it to default
it works by pressing alt+insert+down arrow.

I can't comment if windows7 voice is the problem - probably not. I use
sapi5 voice and it's ok. I think you just need to press alt+down arrow
with your settings.

OK well then I must not have something set correct. But where it is,
is

the issue. I can find no place to set the synthesizer for Say All as
the help described in the Settings Manager. Are we talkking in the
Jaws

menus/Options/Voices area? Or the voice profile area with Insert Ctrl
S, which is kind of one in same? I hsow Elequnce and one of the
SAPI

voices in the latter. But my choice is to set either one of those as
defaultin the first combo box and then the second combo box is for
default for the particular application I launch the voice profile
from.
. Currently Elequence is for both so it ought be switching to the
Sapi

voice with ALT Insert Down arrow, but it doesn't.
Unless I'm missing it, it would be helpful to have
synthesizer/voice
options in the settings manager, as some of the settings are
scattered

about making it unsure where to find some of them.

Fred, I am talking about the one's Al noted in his last

There is a free intro webinar for office 2010 this Tuesday
for an hour at 12 noon. Also, you can go to the download
page for the training area and download audio and text
documents with training material for the free webinars. I
am going to pay roughly $30 for the Outlook 2010 webinar as
you can follow along during the class and or simply use the
downloaded materials with or without being at a specific
date for training. There is a good schedule of upcoming
webinars.

the thing about Outlook 2010 that I'm fighting with is that
the ribbon changes depending on the page you are on. For
example, when you're reading email, the upper ribbon has
'message' at the top, and the lower ribbon choices relate to
sending a message. Wo more. When you move the cursor to
read a list of attachments, the upper ribbon says
'attachments'. and the lower ribbon choices deal with
attachments.
To get to the BCC field, open a new email. Press alt-p to
the options tab, and arrow down.

Hi Marilyn,

To check to see what version of Jaws you have running, try the following;
1. If you run Jaws from the system tray, press insert / Jaws key + J, then
press the letter A, & Jaws will read the currently running version of Jaws.

2. If you are not running Jaws from the system tray, alt + tab, to your Jaws
window, invoke your say line keystroke, insert / Jaws key + up arrow, & Jaws
will read the currently running version.

If Jaws13 was installed you would have a Jaws13 shortcut on your desktop &
Jaws13 would probably be running.

Below is what the Jaws13 download will read like if you try to find it;

J13.0.527-32bit.exe

If you downloaded the 32 bit version. If you downloaded the 64 bit version
everything would be the same except it would read like this;

J13.0.527-64bit.exe

I normally have all my downloads go to a designated download folder that I
created in the root of my C drive, or I will download stuff to the My
Documennts folder just so my downloads are easy to find. If you need more
help let us know. Hope this has helped. Take care.

2011-11-21 Thread Marilyn Walker
Mike, I saved it to my programs list. But I still am not sure it is v 13
that is running and not old v 12. I slightly recall that when I installed
it from the fs site, I may have hit run and not save. Am I making a problem
where none exists? I hate to uninstall v 12 that is still there just to
find out. Marilyn

Now, Nextup insists that you buy both the Text Aloud program and it comes in a

I did purchase Text Aloud because it has some nice file splitting capabilities

apparently now you do, arg, I haven't been there for quite a long time, they
introduced a "Scottish" accented voice which wasn't great, but wasn't too bad,
and that was the last time I looked for the AT&T voices!

text aloud is a nice little application, sort of a notepad plus with the
ability to automatically turn a text document into a audio MP3 file

but it does make it more expensive, blast it, I finally found a female voice
I'd like to use as my main voice for my computer, there 16 Hz crystal, and I
need buy TA to get it, urg, ok well time to start saving again!

good luck,

Fred, I am talking about the one's Al noted in his last
message.

That was the first thing I checked. It is set to Desktop :). I'm in
no hurry to reinstall. I did try a different keyboard as well but it
does same. I found out today however, that left alt key does work

don't have any other adaptable software running other than Qwitter
which I unloded thinking some strange key assignment came into play.

Regions and Language settings for the keyboard shows US English but good
thought. What is strange is, the left ALT key works in every other
situation I've tried, plus this: if you go into help mode with insert 1,
and press Insert + rightAlt key + down arrow, Jaws help tells you it will
read in an alternative voice.
I'd not found it an issue anywhere
else. I can live with it, but yes maybe down the road if I get some time,
I'll save my settings somewhere and un-, re-install Jaws and see if that
helps. Appreciate your taking some idea swings at it though.

Ok mystery solved but still weird. I've always used the left alt key for
this combination, I'd be curious what you use. Jaws is not recognizing
the left alt key in these key combos. The alt key works by itself and
with other non-Jaws key combination hot keys I've set up for apps and
such, but it will not work for this or other Jaws features. It does work
with the right alt key. Additionally I do not have "differentiate between
left and right paired keys" set in the settings manager so it ought not
make a difference.

But where it is, is
the issue. I can find no place to set the synthesizer for Say All as
the help described in the Settings Manager. Are we talkking in the Jaws
menus/Options/Voices area? Or the voice profile area with Insert Ctrl
S, which is kind of one in same? I hsow Elequnce and one of the SAPI
voices in the latter. But my choice is to set either one of those as
defaultin the first combo box and then the second combo box is for
default for the particular application I launch the voice profile from.
. Currently Elequence is for both so it ought be switching to the Sapi

Unless I'm missing it, it would be helpful to have synthesizer/voice

Once you have acquired some of those voices, you can configure Jaws 12 or
13 to operate, using that synthesizer rather than Eloquence.
There are also several voices called SAPI 5 which offer quite a variety
of different people to choose from. Some, like Samantha for example,

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Alternatives to Eloquence for JAWS 12 and 13

Hi All,

I’ve got a bit of a hearing problem and am having very bad problems with
Eloquence on my new Windows 7 machine with JAWS 12 and 13 and really hope
there’s some alternative that would suit my needs better. I vastly
prefer

the GW Micro version of DEC-Talk Access 32 that I purchased years ago and
ran on my XP Home computer, but my understanding is that it isn’t
compatible with the newer versions of JAWS. What alternatives are
possible these days? I’ll happily pay for any voices that I like and
work

better for me.

Thank you,

Margaret

Yes, on most of the voices at Nextup you do. once
installed together with Textaloud or some other
of their offerings, you can use the Nextup voices
with any program on your computer that uses sapi.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws 13 failing to load on start up!

2011-11-21 Thread Doris and Chris
Not really but have you tried loading jaws via the startup group
rather than as a service?

In the past, sometimes some antivirus software that also loaded early
on in the boot process interfered with jaws.

Loading jaws from the startup group is the same aas brining it up
with your jaws hotkey and will launch jaws only after your desktop is
completely loaded and after the login screen if you are displaying
that. If you need speech at the login screen, you may want to
consider installing nvda and having that come up at the login screen
rather than jaws.

I'd not found it an issue anywhere

But my choice is to set either one of those as
defaultin the first combo box and then the second combo box is for
default for the particular application I launch the voice profile from.
. Currently Elequence is for both so it ought be switching to the Sapi
voice with ALT Insert Down arrow, but it doesn't.
Unless I'm missing it, it would be helpful to have synthesizer/voice
options in the settings manager, as some of the settings are scattered
about making it unsure where to find some of them.

Thank you for this item. I would not have easily found it and I already
spent more time on it than I should have.
I think I am going to get the jaws office outlook tutorial and approach all
of this office 2010 systematically. This program is so different from
Office 2003 that I really need to start from scratch.
So hopefully an old dog can learn new tricks.

the thing about Outlook 2010 that I'm fighting with is that the ribbon
changes depending on the page you are on. For example, when you're reading
email, the upper ribbon has 'message' at the top, and the lower ribbon
choices relate to sending a message. Wo more. When you move the cursor to
read a list of attachments, the upper ribbon says 'attachments'. and the
lower ribbon choices deal with attachments.
To get to the BCC field, open a new email. Press alt-p to the options tab,
and arrow down.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Alternatives to Eloquence for JAWS 12 and 13

2011-11-21 Thread Margaret Thomas
I found an A T&T Natural voice I like and a couple of Ivona ones. The Ivona
ones seem straight forward to add to cart, but I followed the link to purchase
the A T&T one and got lost. The way I'm reading the page, Wizzard Software
Corp. handles sales and I just sent them an e-mail. While I'm waiting to hear
back can the Mike voice really be $295.00?

Thanks,

Margaret

I know that on my machine, when I make adjustments to the msconfig be it
unchecking active sync or quicktime or some other program that gets turned
on for whatever reason, the Start Jaws automatically check box in the
options/basic menu gets unchecked.

Have you checked to see that your start Jaws automatically check box isn't
getting unchecked for some odd reason?

Fred, I am talking about the one's Al noted in his last
message.
There is a good schedule of upcoming
webinars.

If so what versionn of word is best to use, 2007 or 2010?

I prefer the archived versions of the webinars anyway, I can start and

The nice thing about the webinars is that they are archived. So you can
do them whenever your schedule allows. If you can't make the original
time, you can still sign up for it and take it later when time permits,
as often as you'd like by the way.
